Practitioners working in the helping professions realise the importance of supervision as a space for: reflection; compassionate inquiry; and continuing professional development. This book presents examples of good practice which will help readers to enhance their own supervisory relationships. Robin Shohet brings together supervisors from the fields of consultancy, education, coaching, psychotherapy, youth work and homeopathy, many of whom have been supervising for over 20 years. The contributors explain why supervision continues to be just as important as when they first started, and describe how and why they have managed to stay passionate about their chosen career. The book features numerous case examples to illustrate the different perspectives, demonstrating that supervision is essential and rewarding in a variety of professions. Passionate Supervision is a valuable resource for anyone working in the helping professions, for whom supervision is an integral part of their work.
I am about to embark on training to be a supervisor of spiritual directors and I found this book invaluable to place supervision in a creative place in my heart to which I can now add the skills and practices. Variety of perspectives, which strengthens the book.
I supervise a lot of counselors and found this book helpful. It is comprised of segments from varied clinical supervisors in the social services field and geared for helping professionals in supervisory roles. The contributors approach supervision from the angle of mindfulness and self-awareness. They reference meditation, playback theater, and existential psychotherapy, which I appreciated. At times, this book veered into the New Age realm and lost me, but overall I found it helpful and applicable to my work.
I loved every chapter in this book. Especially the last one about fear. Inspiring and helpful for supervisors to know and learn from various experiences about supervision. Thank you
It warmed my soul, opened my heart, encouraged me to be a Life Long learner. I will certainly recommend to others. Thanking the writers. Meanwhile peace Alf
