Lieutenant Candini has a reputation for being a wild one, but in Guard Dewar she might have met her match.

“Projection” is an unseen interlude near the end of The Caphenon, a novel that begins with the crash of a giant spaceship on a planet whose inhabitants had no idea there was other intelligent life in the universe.

Fletcher DeLancey spent her early career as a science educator, which was the perfect combination of her two great loves: language and science. These days she combines them while writing science fiction.

She is an Oregon expatriate who left her beloved state when she met a Portuguese woman and had to choose between home and heart. She chose heart. Now she lives with her wife and son in the beautiful sunny Algarve, where she writes full-time, teaches Pilates, tries to learn the local birds and plants, and samples every regional Portuguese dish she can get her hands on. (There are many. It’s going to take a while.)

She is best known for her science fiction/fantasy series, Chronicles of Alsea, now comprised of four novels and a novella. Among them, the Alsea books have won an Independent Publisher's Award (2017 bronze medal), a Golden Crown Literary Society Award, a Rainbow Award, and been shortlisted for a Lambda Literary Award.

Fletcher believes that women need far more representation in science fiction and fantasy, and takes great pleasure in writing complex stories with strong, believable women heading up the action. Her day is made every time another reader says, “I didn’t think I liked science fiction, but then I read yours.”

I'm not into erotica, but for this novella in the world of Alsea, I had to make an exception, and girls, I don't regret it. It's pretty hot and sweet and I wish we had more of Candini ^^

Projection is a quick and hot read about two different alien species as they explore each other. This is a follow up to Ms DeLancey's The Caphenon in the Chronicles of Alsea series. If you like space stories this is a good series!

Projection is set just at the end of The Caphenon, but doesn't follow the main characters of the series.

It is a nice short story about 2 side characters. I could describe it in one word.
Affection.
The short focus on a precise single moment. A very beautiful moment, that split second where you gather your courage and act on your feeling.

The interlude between Lt Candini -a Gaian- and Guard Dewar - an Alsean- is a gift to witness. And open the questions; How well an interspecies romantic relationship could be received?

I very much recommend.

Finally we get to see some more ridges in this universe. Very short and spicy, I hope we'll see more of Candini and Dewar in the following books.

I had a vague idea of what I was getting myself into when I decided to read this short continuation of The Caphenon, though I am not sure I actually realized that explicit sex would spring forth. Mostly because none occurred in the book proper, and I had looked over on the website and noticed a note from the author saying how they liked keeping things hidden.

Well, this short story involves Lieutenant Telorana Candini (the first time I noticed that her first name was Telorana), a Gaian, and Guard Soral Dewar, a Alsean. Candini has just learned that a shuttle will be arriving to pick up the Gaians. And so she doesn't want to lose the opportunity to find out for herself what those ridges are like (Alsean's have 'ridges' in certain spots on the body - something like overt erogenous zones; well, when they are visible, the ones on the neck are only visible when the person is aroused).

A quick abrupt short story that both probably could have been better hidden within the longer book, and at the same time couldn't have been in there. What with the nature of this short story. And the people involved. The book didn't focus specifically on this character. To suddenly turn to Candini and have her hump an alien, then have the book turn back to Captain Serrado, Lyhn, and Andira Tal would be somewhat jarring. Though I could see how it could have worked. The spoiler has to do with the original book.

It's very short and sexually a bit more explicit than the Caphenon, but it definitely hits the spot. It#s not a must but definitely a nice addition to the series.

In case you're wondering: you can find that short story as a free download via the Fletcher DeLancey Book Club group on Facebook.

A steamy little encounter between Candini and Dewar. It wasn’t something I knew I wanted until I read it. Now I ship it. I have missed Lieutenant Candini, and I wouldn’t mind seeing her return and possibly exploring a more permanent relationship between herself and Dewar.
