Fighting for Control the 3rd book in Melynda Price's Against the Cage series was amazing. OMG I freakin' love Nikko!!!!!!! I fell in love with Nikko when I read Passing His Guard back in August 2015. I knew that the minute Nikko's book came out I would have to get my hands on it. Nikko was everything I wanted and more. This book was way better than Passing his Guard and that is saying a lot since Passing his Guard was awesome. Melynda Price did an excellent job of hooking me from the beginning and I didn't put that book down til I hit the last page. I mean really how can I not be hooked when the book starts with a sexy blonde sitting next to Nikko on a plane just out and ask him to have sex with her in the plane bathroom. Talk about an opener! Then six months after that mind blowing mile high sex Nikko finds out that his new psychologist is none other then the woman that rocked his world in the plane bathroom.
"Listen, I don't do this sort of thing- ummm...ever-but I have had one of the worst days of my
life, and you don't look like yours is going so hot, either. Do you umm..... want to go into the bathroom with me?"-Violet
No how are you doing? How've you been since we banged? Was she seriously going to sit there and act like that shit on the plane didn't happen? "I can't believe you're a goddamn psychologist!"-Nikko
Nikko was perfect. Straight up he was so yummy! Nikko was so broken and damaged I just wanted to wrap him up in my love and save him. Nikko had some serious issues but he was still charming, sweet, caring, and a little funny too. Of course he was a sexy bad ass MMA fighter, but he was also a broken ex Marine. Anyone who has ever read my reviews knows I have a thing for (ex or not) Military, Cops, Firefighters, or any man in a uniform really. So yeah Nikko was a wet dream. Strong, dominate, and protective. I loved all Nikko's hard edges and I thought he really grew in this book. I don't think there was anything I would change about him.
"I have to know..." He lowered his head, stopping inches from her mouth, her quickening breaths brushing against his lips. "Know what?" she whispered, sounding so sexy and breathless. "If you taste as good as I remember."-Nikko and Vi
"Then don't make me a liar, Nikko. Help me help you. Your career is too important to just throw away on the past. You can get beyond this. I believe in you. You just need to believe in yourself."-Vi
Violet was just as amazing as Nikko. She was calm, but strong and she fought like hell for Nikko. She was a sweet, caring person but Vi was no doormat. Vi was a more intellectual person but she had a wild side full of passion. Nikko really seemed to pull that wild side out of her. I loved how she never gave up on Nikko no matter how many times he lashed out at her or pushed her away. Vi had no problem taking Nikko to task but she was determined to help him. She was perfect for him.
"I don't know how to do this. I don't know how to let you in."-Nikko
Nikko wasn't a gentle lover. He fucked the same way he did everything else- demanding, controlling, and unapologetic.-Vi
Nikko and Vi's relationship was intense and full of passion. They fought a bit because Vi wouldn't just let Nikko hide from his past. They were wild together and had major chemistry. I loved them as a couple. I also loved Nikko with his daughter Ray and his two nieces OMG so adorable. I loved all the side characters, and was so happy that I got to see how Aiden and Ryann are doing. I also loved the little glimpse of the romance between Willow and Regan. I loved everything about this book truly. The ending was so sweet my teeth hurt and I had a dopey smile on my face. Now I am hoping the next book is Willow and Regan's book because I'm dying to know how that goes! This series gets better every book.

Amazing MMA fighter Nikko with PTSD and lots of angst meets Violet/Clover on a airplane. They join the mile high club and that's the end of it. Or so they think until they cross paths 6 months later. Now Dr. Violet is his therapist. Lots of drama, hot sex and more yummy fighters (some from previous book and some I hope to see in future books).

Oh...Nikko.
Part of the reason I really liked Passing His Guard was because of Nikko and was praying that we’d be getting his book sooner rather than later, so when I saw that Fighting for Control was about him I did a little happy dance/squee thing and I’m happy to say that I loved this book!
Nikko was an enigma in Aiden and Ryann’s book. He was so set on keeping himself closed off and yet would do sweet things that had me wanting to see underneath the hard shell and boy do we get to see what’s underneath. I love me some strong, silent, broody alpha male-ness and I’m pretty sure if you looked up all that in a dictionary his name would be under the description, but his broody-ness comes with a heavy dose of guilt and self loathing that broke my heart. And yet, he has this hidden sweet side that had me grinning like a fool.
I loved the way we first met Violet, I wanted to give the woman a high five for doing what she did. She was in a hellish place at that time and yet showed compassion, strength and a bit a wild side that totally endeared me to her. Those traits don’t disappear as the book progresses, they only grow, and while she does have her insecurities she doesn’t let them rule her world.
As for their relationship. Talk about rock meet hard place. I definitely would not want to be in their shoes, for more reasons than one. The professional side of things is hard enough, but when you find you click with someone and really do not want certain things to come out makes it that much worse. But they find away and though there is a lot of push/pull going on it worked for me, though I had many, many moments where I wanted to smack some sense into them. The sexual chemistry between them is hot and as they become closer you could see that they really were good for each other. They may have stumbled a few times, but they really did see each other clearly and brought out the best in the other.
I know this is one of those catch 22 phrases, but this series has gotten better over time. I liked Win by Submission, really liked Passing His Guard and LOVED Fighting for Control. Everything worked for me in this book from how the the twists and turns in the story line played out to character development My only complaint, and this is more about me being impatient than anything else, is that I had to wait for Nikko to finally open up...it took FOREVER, but it was necessary due to what happened to him while in the military and dealing with his PTSD, which I think was done very well.
Also, I loved that we got to catch up and find out what was going on with the couple’s from the first two books and hang out with some new characters. Loved getting to know Kill and Willow. Penelope, Violet’s best friend, was a spit fire. And I loved the whole “You’re my best friend now” thing with Tommy. I think I know who the next couple will be and what the book may be about, but I’ll keep that to myself and celebrate if I’m right :D
The Bottom Line: This is my favorite of the series, so far anyways, and I can’t wait to find out who the next book will be about!!

Another awesome read
Dang these stories just get better and better. I chickened out on this one again. I started listening in the car and was totally unsuccessful in finishing it that way. Had to see what was going to happen.
Niko was so complicated and full of love. What he went through was so heartbreaking. War is hell and the government lets down so many soldiers who have given all they have for their country. It makes me sick. Niko was hot as hell. Loved him!
Violet was also going through a great deal, but she wanted to help Niko. She irritated me at times, but she took a great deal of crap from Niko but hung in there. She saw through all his hurtful actions to see what they were really about. I do give her credit though she did draw the line.

I'm struggling for words. This was an intense yet beautifully written read that capture my attention and heart then refused to let it go.
Fighting For Control is the third book in this series. I have read book two, but I really must go back and read book one. While it can definitely be read as a standalone I'd recommend reading the others, because one characters do feature from other books, and two this author is brilliant.
I didn't really know what to expect from Nikko's book. However, his story was gut-wrenching and I felt for him every step of the way as he fought through his PTSD and survivor's guilt to come out on the other side a healing man.
There were a lot of small things going on in this book. The forbidden nature of his and Violet's relationship, his PTSD, both of their exs, his career, and more. I thought it all flowed beautifully and the author didn't a good job of making things clear enough to keep my interest but not overloading me with information. I would have liked a little more detail in the ending. Nikko's secrets came a little late for me. Although I knew what had happened from the flashbacks, I wanted him to admit it sooner.
I also wanted more from the ending. Only my reason for that is because I didn't want the book to end and force me into reality. Nikko was a fighter in all aspects of life and I loved him.
Overall a brilliant, captivating read. It held my attention from the first chapter and I could put it down. I'd highly recommend!

Thoughts: I love MMA books, and Fighting for Control was another hit for me. Nikko and Violet have a very interesting first meeting and neither really expect to ever see each other again. So when Nikko is dealing with a very real problem – PTSD – and loses it, winding up slugging his trainer/coach, he is stunned when his mandated therapist winds up being the girl he can’t get out of his mind. Needless to say, it is a tricky situation. I enjoyed reading the story and this one had a real edge of realism to it that made it really compelling. The way Nikko refers to Violet – as ‘Clover’ (which holds a special and sweet meaning) – really gives it a sweetness as well. A great MMA title!

Ex-marine turned MMA fighter Nikko “the Bull” Del Toro, carries a lot of demons from his time at war, and suffers from PTSD which occasionally flares up from time to time and causes him to lose control. He turned to fighting as a way to quiet the demons and it has helped tremendously, but when an upcoming fight and all the press surrounding it conjures up a lot mental turmoil his PTSD resurfaces and he put his friends at risk. So his boss gives him an ultimatum, get help or your down, so he agrees to see a therapist for his PSTD, which takes him to the doorstep of Dr. Violet Summers. The minute she opens the door the memories of a very hot little mile high rendezvous hits him like a ton of bricks...
Dr. Violet Summers normally walks the straight and narrow, but after a painful divorce she decides to take a short walk on the wild side and have a little one night stand with a nameless man. She figures the best way to get over one man is to share a little time with another, she just wants to bury the hurt with something that makes her feel good... even if it is only for one night. While the doctor side of her knows it probably isn't the best idea, the naughty side in her tells her to go for it and have no regrets, but when she opens the door to her new client the regret starts to settle in. The nameless man from her one night stand is standing before her needing her help...
It has been a while since I have read a story that completely captured my attention, and consumed me the way this one did, I was barely a paragraph into this one and I immediately felt myself being pulled into Nikko and Violet's world and completely entranced by every written word. These two well crafted characters were definitely a match made in literary heaven, the chemistry they shared could be felt from their first encounter, and continued to burn intently throughout the entire story... and help to create some very steamy encounters that left me blushing!! This was my first experience with this author's work, and I have to say that her writing totally took me by surprise, and instantly made me regret not reading something by her before now! She completely won me over with this exceptionally written story, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the VERY near future!!
I highly recommend you give this read a try, it is one of those stories that will invade your thoughts, steal the breath from your lungs, move you to tears, and linger with you long after the last page has been turned!

Nikko is a force of nature.... if a tsunami and a atom bomb had a kid it would be him.... he is so hot and yet so damaged...the secrets... his past.... LORDY ....if it didn't work out for him and Vi... I VOLUNTEER....
Vi and Nikko meet on the worst day in her life on a airplane.... and something happens..... when they meet again 6 month s later she is on one side of the desk and he is on the other... and the story is heartbreaking and gut twisting and I sat up until 2 am to finish it,... who needs sleep.... I needed the ending of this book more...

I'm not really sure what it is with this series but each fighter makes you fall more and more in love with them. Nikko is no different. This MMA fighter is the most damaged so far. Before his fighting career he was in the marines and what happened to him has not only left suffering from PTSD and scarred on the outside but inside he's damaged he may not be able to recover.
Violet is a psychiatrist and is assigned to help him heal. She is damaged as well. Her ex husband is back and now is harassing her and she's doing the best she can to ignore him. The chemistry is off the charts and it's unethical for her to have a relationship with her patient, but the attraction is hard to resist.
Another great story and I can't wait for more.

The alpha is broken. The female has some issues. I wanted to smack the heroine a few times while reading this book because of her being stupid and then tell her she deserved to lose them. She ticked me off. I understood some of it, but she was not the only one involved and had a right to make some decisions. They both have trust issues. His past though, he is still living through. He has some issues with anger because of it. These two find their way to one another, have a strong connection, and bring peace and love to one another's lives. This was a good read. The story sucked me in. HEA. I plan on reading the other stories.

Fighting for Control was such a good read.
Right from the first chapter I was hooked, loved the passion and chemistry between Nikko & Violet.
Loved how these two connected and how they found comfort in each other's arms.
Fighting for Control was an emotional & heartwarming read, it was well written and the characters were likable, passionate and you couldn't help but fall in love with them.

This was an enjoyable story overall but there was a lot of angst to get through before hitting the happy ending.
Violet is a psychologist who works with CFA fighters in Vegas (along with other patients). Violet was married to a man named Barry, who was also a psychologist and they ran a practice together. Barry ended up being a scumbag and Violet found out he was cheating on her (and had been for a while). She divorced him and moved to Vegas where she is working on building a new life.
Nikko is an ex-Marine who went through some pretty traumatic stuff. He got out of the military and he recovered physically but never really recovered mentally/emotionally. Nikko found that he did well at fighting and happened meet up with the MMA crowd and got recruited as a CFA fighter.
The story begins with a brief intro which takes place 6 months before the main story takes place. In it, we find that Violet and Nikko met up on a plane flying from New York to Vegas. Violet had just divorced Barry and was feeling the need to grasp onto life so she propositioned Nikko and they proceeded to join the "mile high" club together. They went their separate ways without exchanging numbers but when the main story starts 6 months later, they've both been thinking of each other and kind of wishing they knew how to get in touch....especially Nikko because Violet became a "happy place" for him and he used her memory to smooth himself out when things started making him feel stressed. Unfortunately, Nikko has a "rage blackout" (due to his PTSD) at a press party and his actions in front of the press almost get him permanently banned from the CFA.
Nikko is told that he has to go see a psychologist and he's not thrilled about it but has no choice if he wants to save his career. He's shocked to walk into his first appointment to find that his psychologist is actually Violet. Violet ends up in a quandary because, since they've slept together it would be unprofessional for her to treat Nikko. The only problem is, her partner is out of town for over a month and if she doesn't see Nikko, it will endanger his career. Violet tried to keep things professional but Nikko really isn't prepared to share anything and would much rather have Violet in his life in an unprofessional way. She refuses to just sign off on him (saying he's ok to fight when he isn't) so they're in a constant struggle of them wanting each other and him balking every time she tries to help him with anything professionally. Eventually, they manage to get past their issues and do end the story starting a very nice HEA together.

Not only was I intrigued by what was going on in that little introduction, I was already laughing and looking forward to reading this book. To be honest, I have always hated reading the prologue, mainly because authors put spoilers in it and that is something that aggravates me to no end.
Besides the constant change of POV’s, I loved this book and the characters in it. Even though Nikko had some issues, not once did he give up. He kept fighting with everything that he had. If it is one thing that I love to see in a book it is character development. There is nothing better than to reading about a character that has been hurt mentally and watching them come back from that. I love to read about them overcoming their fears and demons. It can give a reader hope, hope that one day they too can overcome the nightmares that haunt them. It helps the reader understand exactly what a person with PTSD can go through. Just imagine having your worst memories drag you into a place you cannot escape. Making you feel like it is happening over and over again, maybe, then you can come close to what a person with PTSD goes through. It gives you something to think about, when it comes to mental illness. Even though you can’t see the scars, it doesn’t mean they don’t exist

4 Lucky Clover Stars
I always forget just how much I love MMA Fighters romances until I get my hands on one, and Fighting for Control was really good. After reading the previous book in this series I was intrigued by Nikko Del Toro’s story, it promised to be captivating at the least with a very broken man riddled with more demons than one would know what to do with.
Violet is finally settling in her new life in Vegas six months after her divorce to that spineless cheating weasel was finalized. She is finally seeing patients with real issues who she can actually help (she is a psychologist ) and her secretary is her best friend. Now she just needs to forget about the hot stranger in the plane so she can move on romantically.
Nikko Del Toro is facing an impossible choice, go to therapy and get his head straight or get kicked out of the FCA. He knows no one can help him with his issues, not the military, not some shrink, not anyone; not when he deserves to be all effed up after what happened on his last mission before he was sent home, and never cleared for active duty back again. His only outlet is training and fighting, so he has little choice really, but to comply and set the mandatory appointment.
Both Violet and Nikko are in for the surprise of their lives when they meet again in her office. Neither can believe their eyes, both see the potential problems stemming from their… first encounter, but there’s no denying the chemistry and feelings that resurface just by being in each other’s presence.
Violet immediately refuses to be his doctor, but Nikko can’t wait six weeks for her partner to come back from holidays and treat him, he needs to be cleared for fighting ASAP or he might just explode, so Violet is put in the impossible situation where she can’t not help Nikko out, even if she feels heavily conflicted about being his doctor. Both of them have deep issues, Nikko’s being especially difficult to deal with. You just can’t help who you fall in love with though, but they have one hell of a ride in store if they want to be together.
While I liked Fighting for Control a lot better than Passing His Guard, I still found the inner monologues of both MCs a bit frustrating and repetitive at times, I understand there’s no other way to show us their inner struggles and that was the main issue in the story, but I won’t lie and say I didn’t skim on more than one occasion through their lengthy mental comings and goings. At one point I also got kind of fed up with both of them responding in the exact same way to certain situations time and time again (I can read a variation of the same scene –Nikko feels exposed so he lashes out, Violet understands what he is doing but feels hurt and still kicks him out, Nikko leaves feeling like crap, and then they make up- so many times before I want to throw my kindle at the wall).
Crazy ex’s, career pressures and being in the public eye will meddle in too, making the likelihood of them making it less and less probable, fortunately this is a fighter romance and they won’t stop fighting till they get to the other side.
A bit of drama, dark secrets, some seriously hot sexy scenes and a story of redemption and healing made Fighting for Control a very interesting and gripping story for me. I’m seeing myself reading the next installments for sure.

Survivors guilt can be debilitating to the civilian but to an enlisted person who has now been discharged catastrophic. Not to mention if they feel that they were the reason they got their fellow Marines killed and he was the only one survived. Nikko Del Toro was an ex-Marine that was special forces recon unit, MARSOC.
Now though he was the CFA’s Bad Boy of MMA cage fighting and at the top of his game. But he was also a ticking time bomb when it comes to flashbacks from his last mission. Since he refused to be treated after the secret mission believing he deserved his own hell he had no reason for his belief so his triggers that triggered him were not known and they would set off violent episodes.
So, having to show up for a dog and pony show as the main pony, so to speak, for the CFA per his coach’s orders. He had to speak and pose for the press at a meet and greet. Which he was having to prep for since the flashes could set off his PTSD and cause problems but in controlled environments he was more or less on top of it. Yet, being nervous and upset about having to do it at all did not help when a photographer from the press showed up at the bar taking endless amounts of photos with flash on. Causing a major angry flashback which in turn landed him in jail for hurting someone who believed in him.
When he is ordered by the CFA to 6 months counseling he agreed. Who knew the person he would be seeing is the one person that gives his mind peace when he is anxiety takes over. When he can’t sleep. Or just out of sorts. The woman who 6 months ago was on a flight with him from New York to Vegas. She was having a bad day as was he. She asked him to be a part of the “mile high club” with her and he did.
It turns out they never exchanged names. But he always thought of her as his “four leaf clover.” Something rare to be cherished. So in his mind when he thought of her which was always he name was Clover. Not to mention when she saw he was in a struggle with take-off she placed her hand on his. He realized she was the first he ever allowed to touch him since coming home and he liked it. But he never had secrets and a past he could never subject her to or to keep from her or anyone else before either.
As for Violet (Clover) she too was running from her resent unpleasant past. Her ex was screwing his secretary in the joint practice that they had. Which meant the other doctors and employees knew about it and said nothing. So, when she arrived home early from her conference to find Barry in bed with the other woman she ended it all and moved to Vegas to start a new practice with CFA as one of her biggest clients.
See how these two get not only involved in the present but entangled in Nikko’s all to secret classified past life. Can Clover help him? Or will Nikko tear them both down with what happened in his past? Or will both their ghost collide to cause pain neither saw coming. I give this 5 stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Although having a hard exterior, and I do mean hard in the best possible way, he enjoys the family he has been embraced by. He may be the so-called black sheep with them but they believe in him wholeheartedly that when he screws up by letting his demons get the better of him, they push him into therapy.
Violet Summers fresh out of a divorce has her own trust issues that are not fully dealt with when she uses Nikko to start her new life. Their one night of passion has defined what she was missing from her life and she is both elated and worried about Nikko’s returning presence in her life. She tries her hardest to keep Nikko at arm’s length because patient-therapist affairs are a no-no; but he is not having any of that. They have a special bond that changes the course of both of their lives whether they wanted it or not. There is no denying they were simply meant to be.
This is one of those books that you hate to love. First off, I enjoyed these characters by themselves as well as together. They had a deep connection that the author makes you feel with each page you read. They bring out the best and the worse in each other which forces them to fight for each other. A captivating read with much drama, angst, and sexiness…
This is the third book in the Against the Cage series which can be read as a stand-alone.
Nikko Del Toro is ex-marine MARSOC and a cage fighter suffering from severe PTSD after returning from a deployment that went horribly wrong. He never knows what might set off the flashbacks bringing the demons that torment him to the forefront of his psyche. He keeps control by fighting which is cathartic and with the memory of a one-night stand that rocked his world six months ago. But his Band-Aids are not enough to prevent an attack being set off in a public setting. In order to save his MMA career he’s suspended and ordered into therapy where he finds the woman he keeps remembering again.
Just divorced from her cheating husband and moving to Las Vegas from Manhattan Dr. Violet Summers is an emotional teary mess on the plane. Seated next to her on the flight is one gorgeous sexy man who appears very uncomfortable with flying. With her self-esteem shattered she has a strong need to step out of her comfort zone, to do something wild so she propositions the man and together they join the Mile High Club. She never expected to see the man again, doesn’t know his name but the connection forged that day is one she’ll never forget, it showed her what she’d been missing. Stunned when he walks into her office months later as her client she’s torn over the ethics of the situation.
In the last book Nikko was such an intriguing character that I was glad to see him get his own story, it’s quite an emotional tale filled with secrets and betrayals. He has a great support system but they haven’t been able to help him not knowing what torments him some of which is classified. Our hero has been to hell and back and is still trying to recover when he meets a woman who calms his demons but she’s just a memory until fate has them meet again. That she has the skills to help him with his issues is fortunate but because of their prior connection it’s unethical for her to become involved with him on a personal level yet that is what they both desire most. Torn between her profession and the desire to help this man see the light within his darkness there is much back and forth between them. The bond forged by sex deepens as they get to know and appreciate each other but trust is not easy for either of them and outside forces complicate their blooming relationship.
If you like protective alpha MMA heroes, stubborn heroines, drama, angst, and lots of sexiness then you’ll enjoy this rather captivating read. This book was not as edgy as the last book which had more suspense but it’s just as good, there are dual points of view.

Okay, this book is going to earn a rare review where I actually talk about the content of the book. This is generally because I don't like the way one concept was handled in this book, but I'll get there.
First off, let me say there is nothing technically wrong with this book. The plot is decent, this book doesn't suffer from any more plot points constructed on miscommunication than any other book in its genre, the characters are likeable.
Nikko is by far my favourite fighter of the series so far which makes this next part particular difficult. LOVE IS NOT A VIABLE SOLUTION TO MENTAL ILLNESS. Nikko's relationship with Violet, who is supposed to be treating him for severe PTSD reinforces the idea love somehow conquers everything including mental illness.
That's a bunch of bullshit. While I am sure that Nikko's recovery is multifaceted, it isn't portrayed that way. All through the novel, you see Nikko refusing to meaningfully engage in therapy and then all of a sudden he's returned to a state of peak mental health because be got to unload the burden of guilt to a couple people and fell in love? There's literally nothing on the way suffering from PTSD untreated has altered Nikko's coping mechanisms, how not talking has effected his world view, or the recurring theme of Nikko not feeling he's good enough or he doesn't deserve to have good things in his life. All of that up and walks out the door because he's in love.
That is not how treating mental illness works. And the constant repetition of the idea it does in popular literature makes it more difficult for those with mental illness because people with no concept of what recovery looks like believe that love can be a cure. Then the idea is reinforced for vulnerable groups as well and it's just a whole lot of not good.
Okay, I'm going to step off my soap box now.
The one other point I didn't like -- other than the unresolved issue around Penelope-- was the pacing of the last 17% of the book. It's like everything comes in a rush and you see the return of old characters for some reason, everyone deals with their past, and it's just a lot crammed into a relatively small section of the book.
Still, I liked all of this more than the way sexual assault and violence against women was butchered in the first book. And seeing characters from that book was somewhat fun. Also the world building aspect was well done.

This series just keeps getting better.
I knew while reading PASSING HIS GUARD that Nikko's story was one I couldn't wait to get my hands on. And I certainly wasn't disappointed. When Violet and Nikko first meet, it's Violet trying to move on from her ex and Nikko just... being Nikko. A hot mile-high-club encounter and they don't expect to ever see one another again.
And then Nikko is forced to see a shrink for his PTSD and low and behold, the shrink assigned him is none other than Violet.
What I liked about Violet was that she knew better than to have him as a patient after what they went through. She wanted to pass on his case, but without the sessions, Nikko couldn't fight -- so Violet was between a rock and a hard place. What I also liked about Violet was she had a strong protective streak -- yes, Violet did.
Nikko had his sweet moments, but also his not so sweet moments. Here was a man battling grief and severe PTSD, who channeled his aggression in the ring. Occasionally, though, he would lash out with harsh words when hurt -- something that we got to see the most when Violet was pulling her protective streaks.
Like I said, I'm enjoying this series more and more!

Would it always be like this with him? Ducking and weaving, jabbing and punching? Trying to have a conversation with this man was like entering a verbal sparring match. He was deflecting her questions as fast as she could throw them at him. Well, one of them was going to get through eventually, and she could only hope that, when it did, it'd give her the knockout punch she needed to break through his hard-ass exterior. --VioletUnlike PASSING HIS GUARD and WIN BY SUBMISSION, this book didn't do the overlap thing... fully. The plane trip at the very beginning was a slight overlap of PASSING HIS GUARD, but for the most part, this story had it's own timeline. We get a little bit of a surprise toward the end in Manhattan -- and I LOVED it!
Like I said, I'm enjoying this series more and more!

Nikko was on a flight back to Vegas. He hated to fly, hated what the noise and pressure could do. Violet is sitting next to him and it's apparent she has been crying. They have never met before but it was a day that would change their lives. Violet, throwing caution to the wind with the help of some alcohol at the airport asks Nikko if he wants to join the "mile high" club......no names, not talking needed.
Six months later.....
Nikko is suspended by the CFA because of his actions and is required to go to counseling and get his act together before he is allowed in the ring again. He will go because he has to and only that reason. The day he goes for his first appt he isn't the only one to feel the floor fall out....because his psychologist is none other than the woman from the airplane!
Violet is under contract from the CFA for counseling services. She is speechless when Nikko walks into her office and she can tell he remembers her too! This is the man she can't forget and she will come to know he feels the same.....
I have to say, this book is written so well that it grabbed my attention from the first page and held on tight! I felt like I couldn't read it fast enough and it just kept me wanting more.
Nikko is a man who was in special forces and suffers from it, PTSD and. guilt. He feels no one can ever help him because he isn't worth it. Anger and the fight is the only thing that keeps him halfway sane. Violet has her own issues with trust but she can hide them well with her occupation.

I absolutely loved this story, you got such a feel for the characters and you could feel how strongly Nikko was trapped by his PTSD and couldn’t break free from the guilt he felt. I’m so glad I got to read this book early as it really is a fantastic read and I was hooked from the beginning. I haven’t read the two previous books but I will definitely be reading them when I get a chance as I can’t wait to find out the story behind the other characters.
Nikko is just trying to get through life now and keep his demons at bay, he has no plans for anyone to ever find out the truth behind what happened that’s his burden to bear not anyone else’s but that all changes when Nikko slips up at a press party and to save his career he must start seeing a therapist. He thinks that’s going to be easy tell the therapist what they need to hear so they’ll sign him off ready to fight that all goes out the window when he walks in and finds his new therapist is the women he met on a plane months previous and he hasn’t been able to get out of his head since.
“She was his calm in the storm, his life raft in an unforgiving sea of torment”
Violet thought after her divorce washing away her ex’s memory with a handsome stranger was just what she needed but what she didn’t expect was for him to become her patient. Violet wants to stay professional she doesn’t want to cross the line but she can’t stop her feelings for Nikko and the more she learns about him the more she wants to help him more forward and have a future one she hopes involves her.

I am in love with this series and it's characters. Each of these sexy alpha fighters have different struggles with strong confident women in their corners. These men have a sense of family with each other and the writers ability to make you feel part of that is astounding.
Nikko has been through hell. He suffers from guilt and regrets everyday. So much so that he is drowning in his past. The only way he can cope and find some release is with fighting or f@@. When he goes too far and is forced to go into counseling he is shocked to see his clover.
Violet has decided to make a clean break. With her divorce final she needs a fresh start and to be someone different. Being part of the mile-high club sounds like a great idea. She never expected her partner in crime to walk into her office.
The chemistry is immediate and the dialogue is witty,fun, intense, and even panty melting. Decisions made with the best intentions could lead to the destruction of the relationship they are trying to build. With Violets career as well as Nikkos they have to stay quiet about the feelings they have for each other. Everything spirals out of control when Violet turns to the wrong person for help.

Really good 3rd installment from the Cage series. I love the angst and the push and pull between Nikko and Violet - its not overrated its just enough to pull a heart string. I actually felt the torment of Nikkos' PTSD and towards the end I was really getting anxious to know what happened that made him like that and Melynda did not fail to squeeze my heart. The struggle between these two characters were like an uphill battle. Its a mental and emotional roller coaster ride. I love Vi's (next to Katies' character) . She is strong willed and independent. I love that she owned the mistake she made and stood by at the consequences.
Nikko was a hard man however the way he melted to Vi and his daughter melts my heart too. Made me smile every time and swooned when he pursued Vi.
Im also glad to get an a catch up about Cole and Katie. They were still my top fave of this series. Also Aiden , hmmmm! Ryann Im not yet warming up to her since my last read.
Great read and I look forward to the next installment.

I'm loving this series. Each fighter has his own unique problems which are told in the story line in a very careful and sensitive way.
Nikko is suffering from attacks of PTSD. Since his return he's been trying to pick up his career as a MMA fighter but his time in the marines have not only left him physically scarred but also inside where his mind can't seem to stay on track.
Violet is a psychiatrist for the fighters and Nikko is told to get help after an episode could have turned bad, Violet tries to get Nikko to see someone else as they had met before and been very "unprofessional" so to speak, but Nikko has no problem with their past and would like to repeat it several over.
Fresh from a divorce and her ex still won't stop bugging her, Violet really doesn't want to get involved with a man again beside it's unethical when the guy is one of her patients, but still he's so hot and kind of hard to resist.

My favorite one yet, I missed these characters! The ladies did it for me in this one. They're all so strong, not whiny at all, and their dialogue on point! I love Willow's transactions, and Raven is just adorable, I hope we get to see her grow!
Tommy goes from silent to hilarious, and the hug 'scene' had me dying of hilarity, while my heart melted a bit "“Not gonna do it. Not until you hug me back.” He tried to jerk away but was locked tight in this clinch. “I’m not hugging you, man.” Just to prove he meant business, Nikko used his free arm to nail him with a kidney punch. “Listen,” Tommy growled. “You’re my sparring partner, which means you’re my new best friend. Congratulations,” he said, repeating Nikko’s exact words back at him and then adlibbing, “even if you are an asshole. As my new best friend, you’re either going to tell me what your damage is, or hug me back, man.”" Nikko is my new book boyfriend for sure, and how did he know what kind of diamond I wanted?!?!
