An introduction to the Star Force series, a massive Space Opera serial creating a new scifi universe for readers to explore akin to Halo or Mass Effect. Take your first step into a much larger world with this prologue and begin your journey to save Humanity from an overpowering enemy.

Aer-ki Jyr is one of the top 20 science fiction authors on Amazon due to his extremely long and ongoing space opera epic STAR FORCE, one of the longest military science fiction series ever written.
Some of the telling (and slashes used, like “he asked/demanded” ) bothered me, but overall I enjoyed this. It sets up the story it prologues well, and gives a reader a good idea of the setting. I liked it!
For a free short story it is okay, even if it tells basically nothing about world. I guess for a teaser it did it’s job since I’m now interested in the next book.
An excellent example of what occurs when there are no adults involved in the editing process. Some day the “author” will discover special girl or boy and this drivel will come to an end.
A really good opening chapter, and sucks you into wanting to know WHY is all this happening. There were a couple places were the words got a little jumbled and I had to re-read it to figure out what was happening, but otherwise it's a well told tale of a father and son just trying to survive.
I wanted to like this story. It has a great series title and intriguing illustrated cover art. Sadly, there just isn't very much to get excited about. As a prologue, this book is more of a teaser, than a real attempt to tell a story. There isn't anything wrong with a set-up story per se. But even teasers need to have substance to them. It isn't enough to merely 'tease' us with trite background information and world building. We need to have a reason to care about the characters and what's going to unfold. I never reached that point. Heck, I don't even know what the main characters names are besides 'father' and 'son'. Not a very good way to engage a reader.
As a result of this prologue holding back anything that would truly make it an interesting read, I found myself fighting to keep from skimming its contents. This is really disappointing considering the book is only 8 pages long.
Readers who love a really slow-build up and can put up with having to constantly shell out money for numerous short installments in what appears to be a mediocre ongoing sci-fi serial may be interested. Others may want to wait to see if the author puts out an omnibus edition, at which point, even I may give this series another look. But right now, I can't in good conscience, recommend this series.

This is a short story introduction to the Star Force series. It is told from the point of view of a Father and a Son, as they evacuate a space station that is under attack from an alien race. There is a lot of background in the story that is brushed over, that they have moved around a lot, possibly as refugees, the mother has died at the hands of the aliens, there is a war on, the father once worked for the Space Navy. There are other things as well, that the military is run by Star Force, and that they are very professional and seen as something to be respected. Of course all of this is only hinted at. Normally this might be a bit frustrating, however, we know that there are 100 volumes coming in the series, so if you have around US$105 to spend, you can buy the series in the 'Origin' series 4 issue bundles and get a lot of these answers. Overall the writing is pretty good though, the characters were well written, the epic scale of the station etc was well described and the first thing I did when I finished was bought the first volume 1-4 so I could continue, as I thought it well worth the read at this stage. Everyone be aware - it is a VERY SHORT introduction - page numbers are listed on the amazon page when you buy these things? But it’s worth the read - as it’s a bit of fun.
