I am a huge history buff especially regarding the Holocaust and Auschwitz. I have read stories from every angel, this is the first time I am reading in depth reports from escapees with corrections from historical experts.
This is actually the first book I have read that was commissioned by the Auschwitz-Birkenau museum.
It was interesting, and if you are looking for extremely detailed information, this is it. At a point, it did seem like information overload.....the heinousness of what happened is disgusting and in some areas was explicitly detailed.
I feel like my 2 star rating needs a little explanation. I use Goodreads ratings to track how likely I am to reread a book in the near future. With that being said, this book deserves a much higher rating. It contains moving, heartbreaking accounts from five survivors of the Nazi death-camp Auschwitz. It is a hard read (obviously), but I would highly recommend it to any student of WWII history. You will finish it with a more complete picture of what life was like in this kingdom of death and a sore heart. What evil lives in the heart of man!
A thorough examination of what the Allies, the public, and the media actually did know about events within the Reich and German occupied and controlled territories during the second world war.
Contains some accounts found elsewhere, such as the Vrba and Wetzler reports, but contains an exhaustive introductory survey of other materials, and invaluable footnotes and reference throughout.
