Stabbed and left for dead in one of London’s most dangerous neighborhoods, Marcus de Wolfe is astounded when a woman resembling the angel from the famous family legend saves him. Once recovered, he shoves aside his angel’s captivating image to focus on his goal of stopping whoever is smuggling cargo on his ships.

Left penniless by her wastrel father, seamstress Tessa Maycroft doesn’t trust men, especially not the handsome earl with the golden eyes she saved. To keep others from facing the fate she barely escaped, she offers seamstress apprenticeships for impoverished girls, giving them a chance for a better life.

But when Marcus appears in her shop and insists there’s a terrible connection between her girls and his ships, she agrees to help him once more. He tempts her to believe there might be more to life than she’s dared to hope.

Marcus soon realizes Tessa is anything but a simple seamstress. His angel shows him he’s not as dead inside as he believed. Can the passion they find in each other’s arms unite these lonely souls or will the plot they uncover threaten not only their new-found love but their lives?

London 1870 If you love historical Victorian romances, you will thoroughly enjoy this book! Throw in Marcus de Wolfe, descendant of the famous de Wolfe family and you will be turning the pages as quick as you can! A chance encounter when Marcus is wounded and left for dead finds Tessa Maycroft helping him. Tessa is a poor seamstress who is making her way and helps other women in the same predicament. Marcus thought he saw an angel when he looked at Tessa, but gets himself focused on his problems concerning his ships.
When he comes upon her again, he asks her for help because it appears her girls are connected to the smuggling that is going on in his ships. But Marcus is a wounded soul having lost his wife years ago. As these two work together to find out the mystery, there is an abundance of emotions, suspense and angst. Can the two find a happy ending?
A well written story with wonderful characters that will entertain you till the end!

Another great Victorian romance from Williams. I enjoyed the idea of a legend being passed through the generations of the de Wolfe family. Samuel, the footman, was so funny with his determination to see the legend come to life. Tessa is a strong heroine and I loved how despite her limited circumstances, she still manages to help others. Marcus is the kind of wounded, sexy hero I adore. Watching the two fall in love which forces them to put aside their differences while solving the mystery kept me turning pages. The street scenes were filled with life. I'm thrilled this is the beginning of a new series. Can't wait to read the next one.

Endearing with a bite of menace!

Short and sweet with an element of mystery and sinister intent; this De Wolfe tale is the perfect prequel to Lana's '7 Curses of London' series.
I love Lana's style of writing and her ability to recreate a small snapshot of history in your mind, in this case Victorian England. Instantly absorbed in the harsh drudgery and dangers of London's sinister alleys at night we meet the delightful and spirited Tessa as she saves the life of Marcus, whose investigations into his ship's suspect cargo leads him fatally stabbed and seeking rescue. The chemistry between the pair had me instantly invested in their fate and kept me entertained and absorbed until the ultimate happy ever after. A great plot with an intriguing cast of characters that makes me eager to reread 'Loving the Hawke' (book 1 in the '7 curses' series) and further explore the De Wolfe world. Brilliant.

Marcus de Wolfe was left for dead in an alley and he felt himself getting weaker. He was able to say help loud enough that Tessa heard him and came to his rescue. Tessa is a seamstress and was able to stitch his wounds. It took several weeks for Marcus to heal. He needs to find out why he was attacked and what illegal activities are happening on his ship. As he gets closer to the truth he asks Tessa for help. He never wanted to fall in love again after loosing his wife and child but as he gets to know Tessa he realizes his first marriage wasn’t love but mutual attraction. A great book with a wonderful ending.

💋💋
A really enjoyable story .
It’s action packed and has great characters.
Tessa is wonderful, a woman who works and lives with her aunt , they help out as many families as possible, making sure the young girls are trained instead of on the streets.
Marcus (Wolfe), is an Earl , knowing something is not right with one of his ships, he sets about an investigation that throws him into Tessa’s path .
The two have chemistry, but can he get over his broken heart before he looses his best chance at happiness.
It’s so good, you’ll love it

Men. They are stubborn but oh how we love the wounded hero. Marcus is a bit brooding but also caring and Tessa balances him out. I love Marcus and Tessa's dedication to righting the wrongs. Their characters are written so well that you feel like you are in their world. A great first book in the series, The Seven Curses of London.

I was gifted a copy by the author.

Don't miss this one.

I loved this novella. It's a wonderful introduction to The Seven Curses of London books. Marcus and Tessa's complicated romance against the evil surrounding them was thrilling, especially when they finally realized how much they loved each other. And I loved Aunt Betty, what a wonderful supporting character.

Can anyone trust a wolf?

The wolf of this story is supposed an honorable man but after taking her virginity he only offered dishonor to make her his mistress! The complications of plots of enslaving women and other issues give rise to an interesting story!

A good read

This was a good story. The author needed to give her characters more depth. The plot was interesting, but again needed something a little more for details and information.

Both the storyline and the characters were lackluster and did not capture my interest. No excitement to the romance, seemed to be more friendship. The story ended at 83%.

A vision

I love reading books like this that reveal love from a vision linked to a past. Generations of seeing a vision like this passed down how love is found.

I thought this was a great intro to the new series.

I liked Marcus (aka Wolfe) and LOVED Tessa.

I am not really a fan of heroes (or heroines) who have been in love before and lost that love - I always feel like the new love interest is getting less than they deserve. In this book - Marcus lost his wife, she was his childhood sweetheart and his best friend. He knows he has to remarry and have an heir - but he doesn't want love, he thinks his heart died with Mary. He is shocked when he has feelings for Tessa. He also feels like he is betraying Mary and decides that he can't marry Tessa - that he will keep her as his mistress.

Tessa has been hurt by her father - he left her penniless when he died and if not for her aunt - she would have been homeless. She tries very hard to help other girls learn to have a marketable skill so they don't end up in workhouses or brothels. She meets Marcus when she finds him wounded and barely alive in an alley. He calls her his angel and begs her to take care of his wounds. She stitches up his cuts and goes to get help.

They meet again weeks later while Marcus is investigating some oddities on his ship and Tessa is trying to keep one of her girls from being duped.

They work together to save the girls and one thing leads to another and they become lovers. When Marcus suggests that Tessa become his mistress, she refuses and leaves him.

They both decide that they need to speak to the other and bare their souls -but before that can happen, the villain takes Tessa hostage and Marcus must save the woman he now knows he loves.

This was a very fast moving, well written book with a little angst, a bit of spice and a very sweet ending.

This is part of the "World of de Wolfe Pack". These are all inspired by Kathryn Le Veque's character William de Wolfe. This one in set in Victorian times with one of his descendants.

Marcus de Wolfe has ventured down to London for two purposes. One to find out why his business and ships are losing money. The other to fulfill his duty to his heritage and find a bride. Since the death of his first wife and childhood sweetheart, he can't risk his heart again.
Tessa Maycroft is rushing back to her dressmaker shop when she comes across a badly wounded man. He must be out of his mind with blood loss, because he says the strangest things.
Tessa and her aunt have worked hard to make a living, and employ apprentices in the shop to give the girls a way to keep of the streets. If Aunt Betty had not stepped in when Tessa needed her, it could easily been her fate.

This is a beautiful love story with few surprises, but lots of depth. It fits in with the series very well. Our hero, while he may not be as over powering as his ancestor, is fitting for his times. A time when people are just beginning to worry about the poor and downtrodden in the big city. Our heroine fits nicely with this family. She is strong, independent, caring and will not put up with a man who will not see her worth.

I loved it. Now I must find more from this author.

This Victorian Romance novella is a great start to a new series. Both Marcus and Tessa are damaged souls, and I loved watching their attraction grow as love starts to heal them. The glimpses into the setting were well done and I really enjoyed the sexual tension between the hero and heroine. Fun banter, interesting secondary characters, and lots of passion! I'm anxious to see what happens in the next book of this series.

I liked the story line and the characters were nice, but there wasn't enough depth for me with either character. The story was too short to get too much into their histories and why they had the issues they did.

Short but sweet

I love Lana's regency romance with just that perfect mix of mystery and adventure. I love the characters and have no trouble picturing the action. I'm very glad to see the villain get his just deserts. Can't wait to read the next story.

Sweetly done

The characters were sweet but the setting was vague. The attacker from the beginning was not clearly connected to the outcome.
