Jarvis Johnson is a social nobody at Langhorne High School. Short on friends and patience, he is focused on his goal of succeeding in school and fulfilling his dream of building his own theme park.

However, the universe had other plans for him.

Not only does he get embroiled in a physical fight with his sister’s boyfriend, but he also ends up being kidnaped by aliens with five other kids during their school lunch break. They are quickly transported light years away to an unusual planet called Zuu where alien species from all over the galaxy are held captive in an intergalactic zoo. Obviously, his plans to graduate high school would have to be put on hold.

After discovering the universe is being controlled by a domineering race of aliens called the Eszok, Jarvis and the young band of human abductees strive to find a way back home. Unfortunately, their journey becomes complicated as each student falls victim to a variety of perils the “zoo” presents to them. On top of that, Jarvis feels that his mind is transforming and is quickly developing special abilities, a rare phenomenon in the known universe that causes an alien species to revert back to their true, original form. Ultimately, Jarvis’ encounters with other alien life forms leads him to discover what it means to be completely and utterly human.

Appealing young adult book

This was a creative & thought provoking book. I wouldn't normally have picked what i would consider a "sci-fi" type of book, but being a high school teacher, I am glad I read this one! I know many young adults amongst my students who would enjoy this read. I can only hope that there is a series planned based on this ending, though! Way to keep readers coming back for more!
