Kingston Lakes is a quiet town. During long summer days, the residents barely have a care. They almost never have to worry about the rise of a bloodthirsty demon who wants to feast on their flesh and enslave their immortal souls. Almost never.

"Another brilliant tale from Ike Hamill."

Scary and fun, Accidental Evil will grip you with a bloody fist until the astonishing conclusion. Join Ricky as he battles the evil that descends on his home town. This year, the tourists won't be taking home trinkets and fond memories. They might not be going home at all.

A Good Edge of Your Seat Thrillride

I was watching Maine Cabin Masters the other night and the episode was the crew working on the author’s family cabin in Maine and they went to first look at it after dark and it was very spooky looking. The crew talked about the author and I got curious as I love a good horror story. I was not disappointed with Accidental Evil. If you like a good mystery with some great horror mixed in then you will love this book. I’m definitely going to read more of the author’s works. I have already downloaded several. Oh and Mr. Hamill the Maine Cabin Masters did a wonderful job on your cabin. I love your cabin and think it’s a great setting to write in. I would love to have a place like that to write in. I have written short stories in the past but have considered writing a novel. Thank you for sharing your creative genius with us!

ACCIDENTAL EVIL, the latest Ike Hamill novel, has all of Hamill's trademark characteristics: interesting characters, some damaged, some not, with individual backstories, excellent writing, good pacing and the ability to make one want to keep turning the pages faster and faster to see what happens next. In addition, like His EXTINCT/INSTINCT series, it is an interesting blend of sci-fi and horror. We also get a good look at the Maine residents' differering opinions about locals versus those "From Away". That other Maine sci-fic/horror author has also done this a few times in the past.

ACCIDENTAL EVIL takes place (for the most part) on a Memorial Day in a small Maine lakeside town. People are prepping for the annual parade and festivities. The set-up is rather long and the reader is introduced to several families with little kids and tween/teens. We gradually get to know that there are some complex relationships between some of the local families. One of the main characters, Ricky, is a young magician-in-training, and pretty early on we see him perform a pretty astounding levitation trick for his little brother. Another main character is Trina, who appears to be living by the largesse of her family, supplemented by house and kid-sittings when upon her is thrust the care of a cousin, Gerard, a young man recently released from some type of psychiatric facility. His precise damage is never exactly specified, but he is on Depo-provera so it has something to do with his testosterone levels. And then there is April, a young local woman who was the teacher of several of the townie kids until she suffered a psychotic break. These two damaged individuals play key roles in what unfolds, a strategy also employed previously by that other author from Maine.

While I liked ACCIDENTAL EVIL just fine, it wasn't my favorite Ike Hamill novel. I think I could more or less predict what was happening about halfway through, and although Hamill's patented blend of supernatural hour and sci-fi was well in evidence, there was something about the final showdown that just didn't do it for me as well as those in all the other Hamill novels that i've read. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that everything was spelled out, and solved completely by the end, whereas in some of Hamill's best work, there is a residuum of uncertainty and/or ambiguity left for the reader to ponder.

Still a very good read.

Excellent Read

This was an excellent read. It kept you guessing. In the end you really wonder if the town’s people will be ok.

The only flaw I have is it really needed to be proof read for misspellings and words that were left out. I work as a proof reader for a living and it makes me crazy to see the errors when I sit down to read a book. If you need someone to do this, let me know.

Please take time to read this book.

Horror at its Best

Not your typical horror story...better. A small town gripped by an accidental evil told in many perspectives. Well written with great characters and a range plot.

Another winner

Another winner for Mr. Hamill. The best part is the storyline, then the characters, and finally the scene settings. What I liked best, is that you are thrown into the story; then at the end, you get to see where and how the story began.

I wasn't quite sure what was going on most of the time, but certainly intrigued enough to keep going. I was interested enough, while constantly wondering what is the point of all this. I don't think I ever really found out, but I enjoyed it well enough.

There were too many characters to keep up with. In particular I kept losing track of which parents went with which children.

I’m not thrilled with the whole notion of mental-illness-as-magic. While it makes sense that someone with a mental illness might see things others don’t, it’s turning into a cliche. I also like it better when there’s at least a rationale for why a particular kind of illness might result in a specific awareness or lack thereof–here, the two characters with emotional ‘difficulties’ are just mysteriously more aware of what’s going on. It’s a cop-out.

The town ends up with some weird infestation of robotic bugs; some people manage to avoid them, while others fall prey to their influence. Given how many of them there were, I was sometimes surprised that things weren’t even more difficult for the good guys.

I really liked what we learn as the story nears its end–obviously I’m not going to give any details/spoilers. I’ll just say that I quite enjoyed where this book went, and the author had some unusual and interesting ideas. It’s certainly enough that I plan to read some of his other books.

This is a novel that has shows you that actions have consequences. We all make stupid decisions when we are young, and sometimes, those decisions can affect the world around us. Of all of Ike Hamill`s novels, I felt this one had the most Stephen King feel to it, but was still completely original. As with all of his novels, I have never read anything like it. The character development was great, and there were a lot of characters you got to know. You almost feel like you know half of the town by the end of the book.
If this is your first Ike Hamill book or just your most recent, you will not be disappointed. It`s difficult to put down.
