Michael Knight. No, not that Michael Knight, but undercover Officer Michael Knight in Tampa. Being fed up with the harassment and practical jokes from his co-workers for the last two months, he finally snaps and requests a transfer, little does he know he's already been recruited by another agency. Lone wolf Aaron Slade was not very happy about being assigned a partner, but he still makes an attempt to introduce himself so Knight won’t be surprised they are working together come Monday morning.

3 stars

This was a hard read for me because of the author changing POVs without warning during the story. I had to re-read a lot of it to figure out what was happening. But, that's on me because they style is one used quite often in books.

Michael and Aaron's story is one about attraction and lust. Michael does not know that Aaron is about to become his new partner when Aaron pursues him for a sexual encounter. The sexual tension is off-the-charts and the eventual sex hot and heavy, but in the end, there is no romance and we don;t get to see the men working together come Monday morning. No HEA of HFN.

The Last Easy Day by Whitley Gray

The day Lieutenant Kurt Crandall entered Navy SEAL training, the last person he expected to encounter was the guy who seduced him two nights ago. Despite the risk, Kurt can’t resist JJ’s invitation for a covert fling. Days short of graduation JJ drops out; he shows up eight years later, newly assigned to the SEAL team under Kurt’s command. It doesn’t take long for them to succumb to temptation. A fellow SEAL tries to stir up trouble, but the threat pales when a mission leaves a life hanging in the balance.

3 stars

Kurt and JJ have a sexual liaison in the bathroom of a bar without realizing they will be will be training together for the Navy SEAL program. They continue a clandestine sexual relationship until JJ is gay-bashed and has to take a medical leave. It bothered me that Kurt b=never found out what happened to JJ about his bashing, but the two do end up meeting again eight years later and continue a sexual relationship. Because of fear of being found out, the two have to decide what is more important: their Navy careers or their relationship. You'll have to read the book for the outcome, but I can tell you there is no HEA. HFN? Maybe!

Love Undercover by E.M. Leya

Nick spent the last few years deep undercover, trying to bring down one of the most notorious biker gangs in the country. As the case is coming to a close, one last surprise puts all his hard work at risk.

Tony didn't think he'd ever see Nick again after they went their separate ways, both choosing their careers over love. Still, he never forgot how good it was between them, and the memories kept him going over the years.

Be it bad luck or fate, the two men are thrown together once more when Nick comes home to find Tony with a gun to his head, and his life in Nick's hands.

4.5 stars

Oh, I LOVED this one! It had all the elements I love in a goof M/M romance. Excitement, adventure, peril, hurt/healing/comfort and a spectacular epilogue. We get a big 'ol HEA too. Bravo!

Hand to Hand by H.L. Holston and Eleanor Bruce

Navy medic Gavin Rathman has been attracted to his Lieutenant, Jackson Blackwater, ever since they were put on the same SEAL team. When Jack is shot on a mission in Afghanistan and put on medical leave, Gavin finally has the opportunity to act on those desires.

But when Jack recovers, and Gavin and he are paired up again, will their status as lovers change their working relationship? It could prove to be disastrous. Is it a gamble worth taking?

4 stars

This was a great hurt/healing/comfort story with a Navy SEAL medic falling for his team commander. Though it is risky, they decide to try for a slightly modified version of a relationship. Not a lot of warm/fuzzies, but we get to see a hint of a HEA in their HFN.

One More Time by Ethan Stone

Small town cop Will Jacoby is comfortable in his life until he starts to see his younger neighbor and friend in a different light. Brannon Frost is a handsome young man and Will is confused by his interest. After the death of Brannon’s father Will is no longer able to deny his feelings, even though it could damage his carefully constructed life and career.

4 stars

This was a sweet gay-for-you coming of age story. I enjoyed it very much, but the "uniform" with the other stories didn't happen. Will is a small town cop but we didn't get any cop related action. But as a short story, this one wins. Even without the alpha-male adrenaline-pumping aspect.

Training Buds by Sara York

Dixon Carter’s world is shattered when he finds his husband cheating, but heading to BUDs training might be the only thing that saves him. Once in California he puts his all into the class and the last thing he’s looking for is someone to love.

Kyle Sauter wants to make his dad proud, and that means never admitting that he is gay. So far, he’s hidden his desires, kept his lust at bay, and has vowed to continue on the path of celibacy.

4 stars

This was a sweet, slow burn romance with two men in training together. Dixon is recently divorced and Kyle is deeply in the closet so,his, father doesn't figure out his son is gay. When he Kyle finally reveals the truth, his father is furious. But Dixon is there to soothe his pain and we get some "L" words from both of them

With the two men possibly heading to two different parts of the country, we don't get a HEA but after they reveal their feeling for one another, this turned into a solid HFN.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

Recruited – Brenda Cothern

Brenda always writes about tough alpha males and Slade and Knight are very tough and all alpha. Knight is having the day from hell on the vice unit and it’s not the perps that are making his life difficult. The rest of the office, in fact the rest of the station, is getting a buzz winding him up over his name. It went past funny weeks ago but when someone messes with his truck it’s a step too far.

Slade is witness to the disregard and bigoted attitude Knights boss shows him and he doesn’t blame the man for storming out. Slade is there to give Knight the good news that he has been recruited for a new job but can’t get the man to calm down enough to tell him. Between punch bags, sizzling attraction and a little bit of dominance Slade needs to show Knight he is on his side and he’s not the bad guy. This pair are hot together!

The Last Easy Day – Whitley Gray

This is a rather bittersweet story about two young men just hours from starting their BUD/S training. A quick bathroom hook up sees JJ and Kurt’s lives become entwined for the next decade. The next few years aren’t kind as they both try to pursue careers whilst hiding a part of themselves. For me it was a bit tragic but obviously their feelings for one another ran deep. They deserved their HFN and I hope they get their HEA eventually.

Love Undercover – E M Leya

Nick has been deep undercover in a bike gang for so long that he’s started counting the days until he can get his life back. Just a few more months……

Then he arrives back at the clubhouse to find a cop tied up and with a gun at his head. His heart sinks as he recognises it to be his ex-lover, a man he has never forgotten about and he is determined to get him out of this mess no matter what. This short takes you into the seedy gang life as we watch Nick try to save his own life and also the life of the man he wants a second chance with.

Hand to Hand

When a mission doomed from the start goes wrong Lieutenant Jack Blackwater ends up in hospital alongside the team medic Gavin. Luckily they will both live but Jack will require all the help he can get from his team during his recovery.

When Jack is sent home to mend his team take turns bringing food and keeping his spirits up but when it’s Gavin’s turn to spend time with him more happens than they had planned. Both men are tentative, a little shy and unsure of how to proceed and when their team finds out Jack panics. There follows a very funny conversation between Gavin and his teammate Noah! It seems all it will take is a little forward planning, some honest conversation and Gavin being devious to get Jack to admit his feelings – but where do they go from there?

One More Time

This was quite an emotional short story involving cop William Jacoby a man pretty set in his ways who would do anything for you. He has a dilemma that comes in the form of Brannon Frost, a young man he has watched grow up over the years and who one day makes it obvious that he sees more in William than just a friend. William, who has always considered himself straight, panics and starts avoiding the young man at all costs.

When Brannon has to deal with a tragedy things are no longer so black and white and he needs Williams support more than William needs to carry on avoiding him. It’s a slow burn romance with a bit of teasing but I love how protective William becomes, when the man makes a decision he puts everything behind it and he loves hard.

Training Buds

This story starts with a bang as Dixon is betrayed in the worst way and he sees his future break before his eyes. Pulling himself back together he is determined to carry on and throws himself into the thought of getting through his Buds Training and becoming a Seal.

Kyle Sauter has wanted to become a Seal since childhood when he watched the men training from afar. He is desperate to please his father and hides more than one part of his life from the older man to ensure he stays in his good books.

This is a story of friendship, of growing up and of fighting your fear to become who you really are. Dixon and Kyle have such different families and support systems as becomes apparent towards the end but they also have each other and that counts for more than anything.

Recruited: 1 Star. A police officer is recruited to join an “elite” agency (at which, apparently, new agents are recruited by having sex with them) (if it sounds like a bad porno, well, you got it in one). “Recruited” reads like the first chapter of a novel, not a short story, and is riddled with typographical and/or grammatical errors.
The Last Easy Day: 3 stars. Navy Seals in training, in service, and in love. Sweet. Much better researched than the final story, “Training Buds” (which is also about BUD/S training but very vague on the details).
Love Undercover: 3 Stars. DUC cop whose biker gang finds a patrolman snooping on their property.
Hand to Hand: 2 Stars. Not much to this readable but forgettable H/C romance between an officer and his subordinate.
One More Time: 1 Star. Gay-for-you romance, only tangentially related to law enforcement, about small-town cop who can’t possibly be gay, even though he lusts after a (barely legal) neighbor. We’re back with the bad grammar.
Training Buds: 1 Star. Two gay sailors in BUD/S training (spelled BUDs in this story). Very vague on the details of the training (compared to “The Last Easy Day”).

4 Heart OVERALL Rating by Amber

Recruited by Brenda Cothern

This may have been my least favorite of the whole bundle. It was very hard to follow. It was almost like being dropped into the middle of a story.

Michael Knight is a seasoned cop with an unfortunate name. All his police career taunted about his name and he’s about at the end of his rope. After being taunted one too many times he decides he’s ready to make a change.

Aaron Slade has been sent to recruit Michael to a new law enforcement agency. Having witnessed what Michael goes through he’s not surprised at all by his frustration and need for a change. What he is surprised about his is attraction to him.

There is no HEA here….there’s really not even a HFN. This is strictly a friends with benefit situation and that’s not bad if that’s what you’re looking for. If this story wasn’t so scattered I’d have enjoyed it more.

The Day by Whitley Gray Last Easy

This story would have been so much better if it were longer. This is one of those stories that falls victim to the short story/anthology Demon. I don’t find any fault in the writing as I actually have enjoyed this author in the past.

Kurt Crandall just got accepted into SEAL training. Out at a bar on one of his last nights of “freedom” he has a chance encounter with a handsome man who captures his attention. Not long after the handsome stranger disappears.

Chance brings them back together again but a homophobe tears them apart.

These two had a lot going against them but watching the attraction build and seeing them come together again was worth it in the end.

Love Undercover by E.M. Leya

I found this one to be a tad unbelievable but I think that’s only because it was dirty and wrong but also…hot.

Nick and Tony went to the police academy together. There was an immediate attraction and not long after it involved into a relationship of sorts.

Deciding to focus on their careers they lose contact and years pass.

Deep undercover, Nick is nose deep in a very illegal motorcycle gang when Tony is thrown at him again. These two I loved together no matter how unbelievable. They were sweet, caring, compassionate then HOT, and dirty.

This was a good one….and unexpected….!

Hand to Hand by H.L. Holston and Eleanor Bruce

This one gave me whiplash but I liked it.

Gavin has wanted Jack since the formation of their SEAL team and Jack has wanted Gavin. After Jack is hurt on a mission they both are able to put things into perspective.

One minute they’re hot and heavy. They next minute they think it’s best if they keep it professional. One minute there’s a no sex rule, the next there’s penis, tongues, and fingers everywhere.

I don’t know why but the dynamic sort of worked for me plus I liked these two together…or whatever they were…

One More Time by Ethan Stone

This was the “awwwwwwwwww” story in this bundle. This was damn sweet with an added GFY element.

Will Jacoby never imagined himself as gay but for some reason he’s finding himself undeniably attracted to his neighbor, Brannon. And the feeling is without a doubt reciprocated.

After tragedy hits Brannon’s life, Will finds himself more and more drawn to Brannon. Despite the age difference these two embark on a very sweet relationship.

Great writing and a very sweet story.

Training Buds by Sara York

This one was just ok for me. It’s almost like the climax happened when Dixon’s husband cheated and everything else was mediocre.

Its obvious Kyle is battling his sexuality pretty hard and it’s also very obvious why he’s going to so much trouble. So, when the big homophobic tirade happened, I wasn’t surprised.

I liked these two battling their attraction. The simmering passion was nice but that was really all that interested me. I also appreciated Dixon’s parent’s acceptance and love that always makes me smile.

Just ok for me but not bad.

A Man in Uniform MM Bundle includes : Recruited by Brenda Cothern, The Last Easy Day by Whitley Gray, Love Undercover by E.M. Leya, Hand to Hand ( Wet Seals,1) by authors H.L. Holston and Eleanor Bruce, One More Time by Ethan Stone, and Training Buds by author Sara York. There is a little bit some something for everyone in this book. I am going to pick out a couple of my favorites to talk about in this review, but it was hard they are all great reads.
My first pick is Recruited by Brenda Cothern, this is a new to me author so I was very excited to read this story.
Officer Michael Knight he is getting teased and basically overly teased for his name. His fellow officers have found out he is gay and they are letting him know their displeasure. Lucky for Michael there is another better job coming up, because he is ready to smash some heads together and possibly end up in jail himself.
Detective Aaron Slade works drug vice and he needs Michael as his new partner. He sees the harassment Michael is enduring and he wants to help the man. But he is also attracted to him. Is it safe to be attracted to his partner?
These two bring the heat. They really have a great start to a story. I would like to see this one flushed out more into a full book because there is so much potential here for more. I love a story that brings passionate heat, and great story telling together. Two men who are tough as nails can make it work, in both their jobs and love.
My Next Pick is Love Under Cover by author E.M. Leya this is another new to me author. I love anthologies for that reason you can find amazing authors you might not have picked up before and get a taste for how they write.
In Love Under Cover we meet Curt who has had to infiltrate a tough biker gang. But when a fellow officer is caught can he protect the man, specially when it is a man he used to love?
Tony remembers being at the police academy with him. But he knows now he has to do what Curt says in order to stay alive. There is a lot of passionate danger in this book. I really think this one is a well thought out story and fast paced. It packs a punch for as short as it is. I would definitely read more from Ms. Leya in the future based on the love and connection in this story.
Over all I highly recommend this anthology, all the stories fit nothing seems to come out of left field which I particularly love. There is action, adventure, and lots of love. Also you might be like me and find a couple of new to you authors you would like to read more of in the future.

***2016 has been a very unstable year. Not only have I lost favourite role models in droves, I have been into dark places more times than I could count. Yes, I experienced highlights as well but the darkness has had a big impact this year and the only way to keep it at bay was reading, mass reading, back to back books with no stopping and no reviewing. I do apologize to all the writers that I won’t be able to review their books yet but I will get to it. Promise!***
