An out-of-this-world friendship adventure by Captain Underpants creator Dav Pilkey, with full-color art and mini comics by Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat.
Ricky Ricotta and his Mighty Robot face off against a flock of flightless foes!
Ricky and his Mighty Robot have made a mess. They've been mean to Cousin Lucy, and now they must make it up to her. But their surprise present for Lucy turns into a trap when President Penguin from Pluto plots to take over Earth. President Penguin is peeved because Pluto is no longer considered a real planet. Now he plans to make things very unpleasant for anyone who stands in his way. Can Ricky, Lucy, and their friends defeat this tiny terror and keep Squeakyville safe?
David "Dav" Pilkey (b. March 4, 1966), is a popular children's author and artist. Pilkey is best known as the author and illustrator of the Captain Underpants book series. He lives near Seattle, Washington with his wife, Sayuri.
The mighty robot and Ricky Ricotta were safe and I'm glad that the mighty robot got out of the ice that President Penguin shot at him. And that Ricky Ricotta said he's sorry and made amends to his cousin.
Pluto's President Penguin is mad because earth says Pluto isn't a planet anymore, and President of Gassy Ice Dwarf Pluto "doesn't have quite the same ring to it," so he goes to attack Squeakyville and Ricky, his robot, and Lucy have to save the day.
My boys and I got the giggles a few times, which is always a good thing when reading a book, and I liked the morals of making amends and not worrying about what others call you.
But we all missed the black and white pictures. Dan Santat is a really good illustrator, and we liked his "The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend," but Flip O Rama does not work as well in full color and we miss the drawing lessons at the end.
Yet another raukous episode of Ricky and his Mighty Robot where there is a greedy and grumpy leader of Pluto upset about the renaming of the once planet to a ball of gas. The story begins with Ricky learning that sometimes his response to things can be rude and he should consider making amends to his cousin Lucy. Meanwhile the President of Pluto is heading out on his plan to attack Earth. There has to be a Flip O Rama scene in this series and in this one Mighty Robot is thwarted in a surprising turn of events! Lucy has been to what she thought was a castle, but turns out to be the rocket ship that brought the invaders. Of course, there is a lot of humor along the way in the latter chapters and Ricky and his Mighty Robot will save the day! Very simple chapters supported well with amazing full color illustrations that engage readers.
I have always felt this series to be better than Captain Underpants, but my students resoundingly choose undergarment humor. I did get more students this year reading Mighty Robot and I am pleased to have this title to add to my collection! These two masters of children's book writing and illustrating continue to impress in this edition.

Miss 3 loves Captain Underpants and now we've worked our way through almost all of Dav Pilkey's Ricky Ricotta books as well. They haven't captured her at the same level of sparkly LOVE as C. U. but she enjoys them enough to re-read them the following week. Although our library has these at the same reading level as C.U. they are much shorter and quicker to read. They're also more positive in general and a good entry for younger kids. As a parent, I love how the series works its way through the solar system and has little facts about each planet! Also, how the local jail slowly fills up with each arch-villain!
#2 Mercury : okay #3 Venus : okay #4 Mars : okay #5 Jupiter: We liked Lucy getting added. Plus the shift to a non-fighting resolution and now super-small super-cute Jurassic Jackrabbits becoming pets. #6 : Saturn: Featuring Lucy and the Jackrabbits too :) #7: Uranus : Featuring Lucy and the Jackrabbits too :) I loved all the alliteration in this one! #8: Neptune: okay #9: Pluto: we liked Princess Lucy taking over the penguin castle!
Another Great Book Series from Dav Pilkey, Himself and Good Illustration from Dan Santat. would be cool if the next book was about the war of the worlds where all the past villains from past books team up and bust out jail to form a good ol fashioned villain team up to destroy Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot once and for all by summoning their planets to attack and Ricky realize this may take more than one book to win this war.
Unpleasant Penguins are not very nice...when they are unpleasant! President Penguin was not very happy when he heard that Earth had changed Pluto from being a planet to being just a gastly ice dwarf. He decided he needed to take over Earth to make them change it back. Ricky Ricotta and his mighty robot come to the rescue, of course. What happens next is surprising!
What an amazing book, I absolutely loved this book. I really have enjoyed reading this series. I would recommend this book, for anyone who loves fantasy, fiction, science fiction, adventure, and mystery. Read this book!
The last of the series. Another perfect fantasy for kids involving space, parents, cousin Lucy and friendship. Dav captivated my little 8 year old tutoring student. He can’t wait for book 10 if there will be one.
1 more book !@#@!#$#@!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't get over how much my 5 year old loves these books. They're all he talks about lately. It was nice to see the robot have to ask for help in this book. I just wish some of the language was better. We don't use words like "stupid" and "wimpy" in our house.
President Penguin comes to Sqeakville angry that Pluto is declared no longer a planet but Gassy Ice Dwarf. "You can't start a fight just because you don't like what somebody says" - Lucy reasons. Lesson - making amends not just saying sorry
I enjoyed this book because I like penguins. I also enjoyed this book because this book had a lot of penguins in it. I also enjoyed this book because I like Ricky Ricotta books.
My 7-year-old daughter loved this book along with the other Ricky Ricotta books. Once again she laughed out loud and we enjoyed making sound effects during the battle scenes.
