So much so that I simply had to put the book aside at times, sometimes for a day or more simply to work up the courage to carry on. It is an extremely realistic take on a woman getting diagnosed with breast cancer and her life with biopsies, treatment etc. as a nurse. Both our main protagonists are in the medical profession, our victim is still at times taken aback or lost a bit in the terminology and I adored this touch of reality.
This is a really good read filled with hope, acceptance and life. I am not a fan of the cover. Honestly if I found this paperback in a bookstore I would not look twice at it. And my life would be the poorer for it. Also since I could not continiously read this nook I cannot give it that extra star but lets give the author a hand of applause. I never, not for a second considered not finishing this book.
Be aware. This is probably one of the few books I have ever come across that is so focussed on the day to day struggle of a cancer victim. No gross scenes but real and emotional and scary. Yes, this is one of those books that is far scarier than anything that SK can ever dream up.
Did I like the book? Yes. No. I loved the hopefilled ending and I appreciated the rest but it is in no way an easy read.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.
This was the most emotional book I have read by this author. It was a great story that that pulled me in from the start and kept my interest all the way through. It was very emotional and at the same time the most loving story I have read in a very long time.
Harley is dying and wants to make sure her 4 daughters and her husband are taken care of after she leaves them. It's told in a way that made me happy and sad. Parts I needed lots of tissues and then in parts it had me laughing too. Two people that I did not like were Tiffany, who it seemed couldn't wait to move in and take care of Jason and then there was Dave. He was a jerk and I could not like him even after he finally did decide what he wanted. I loved Harley and her whole family and her best friend who I was very mad at for a while, Bea. You had to forgive her eventually.
The ending was beautiful but be warned, you will need a box of kleenex handy for that. The letter got to me more than any other part of this whole story.
It was beautifully written and you felt like you was a part of the family. I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to anyone.
Suzanne Jenkins has written the perfect story with this one as she does with all of her books. It was sad but also happy and in parts you had to laugh. A wonderful story of love and loss, tears and finally joy.
When a motheŕ finds out she has an aggressive form of breast cancer, she is obviously devastated. Being the loving wife and mother she is, Harley realises her family still needs her, but no matter how much she wants to be there for them, she can't be. So, wisely, she takes matters into her own hands before she is too ill.
She, with her best friend Bea, start screening women for suitability on an internet dating site. Two women seem to be likely replacements for her when the time comes for the cancer to claim her life.
Jason, her husband is deeply in love with Harley, but very unwisely turns to Tiffany during this heartbreaking period of their marriage. She is a young nurse who shamelessly and selfishly tries to take him from his dying wife and four traumatised daughters. Fortunately Harvey sees her in action and realises she would be completely wrong for her family.
One potential candidate falls away, but Kathy stays. Harley introduces her to her family after confiding that Laura, her adored downs syndrome little daughter, is the result of rape.
I cried. I laughed. I agonised. Its a tragically beautiful story.
Whew. Perfect for Him was a slow burn that turned into a full-on emotional wildfire—and I loved every second of it. Suzanne Jenkins doesn’t just write romance; she writes longing, tension, and that aching kind of love that makes you forget to breathe.
From the first chapter, I was hooked. The chemistry between the characters was intense—like, eyes-meet-across-the-room-and-you-know-your-life’s-about-to-change kind of intense. Their connection was raw, passionate, and complicated in the best way. I found myself rooting for them even when it hurt.
But this story isn’t just steamy—it’s deep. It’s about heartbreak, healing, and the messy truth of loving someone who might not be yours to keep. Jenkins captures that bittersweet space between letting go and holding on so beautifully, it made me cry and swoon at the same time.
As a young woman, this book hit hard. It reminded me that love isn’t always perfect, but when it’s real, it’s worth the risk. Perfect for Him is sexy, soulful, and unforgettable.
This has to be one of the best books I have ever read. I loved Harley so much and thought she was a perfect character. The end of the book was hard for me. I liked Kathy but she wasn't anything close to Harley. I had times where I didn't like Jason, he was so selfish and Harley deserved so much better. This book was so realistic, it was like reading someone's biography. I couldn't put it down. I actually wanted to after Harley was gone but I also wanted to see how her family turned out. I always delete my books after I read them but I think I will keep this one so that I can read it again!!
Harley and Jason have a wonderful life with their four daughters. Then cancer attacks Harley. As the dance progresses, Harley prepares for her family to go on without her. She even chooses a new wife for Jason. Someone she knows will love her daughters like she does. All her lists and notebooks are used and appreciated after her passing. Jason and Kathy get to know each other and get married. Life for the living goes on. This is a bittersweet story that is so well written and so in depth that I was in tears when Harley passed. He ready to feel a lot of emotions as you read this wonderful book!
Beautiful, Suzanne Jenkins is a master story teller.
I'm trying to write through my tears. The beauty of this story will stay with me for a long time. I could not put it down, even when I was crying so hard it was hard to read. The characters are real, their struggles and triumphs are real. You will want to laugh, cry, and even scream at times and maybe you even will want to put it down and not finish the tale, but don't. All I can say is to get a big box of tissues, coffee or better yet wine, and fall in love.
I think this was a great book. I'm sure it would be really hard to try to pick a perfect replacement wife for your spouse. Harley was an exceptional lady with a great husband and 4 daughters. She was afraid Dave would choose the wrong person for a wife after she was gone. She had to have been a very strong person to decide to do this for him. Don't want to give away anymore from the book, but I advise you to read it. You will probably cry, like I did, but I'm sure you will enjoy it, too.
Harley is dying and so she thinks its best to find someone to help her husband finish raising their girls. She incorporates the help of her sister-in-law to find a woman for her husband by making an online profile on a dating web site. She poses as her husband until she finds two that seem a match. She invites both women into her life posing as friends to introduce them to her husband. All kinds of mayhem ensues with this change in life circumstance but things find a way of resolving themselves in the end.
As a cancer survivor I thought I wouldn't be as affected by the storyline, I was wrong. Suzanne Jenkins does an excellent job of pulling you in and keeping you totally invested and engrossed in Harleys legacy. Without spending to much on the actual technicality of cancer and the havoc it wreaks upon a family, Suzanne Jenkins spends the whole book focused on the emotional effect of cancer on all it touches.
Perfect for Him was a tough read, addressing the worst fears of any close family. I gave this book five stars because It left me feeling there is always hope for the future, no matter how dire the circumstances. You’ll need some tissues for this one, so if you don’t mind some melancholy, give it a try. By the end of the book, you’ll be crying happy tears.
Harley has cancer. This is a story of how a brave woman learns that she is going to leave her children and husband behind if cancer wins. She loves her daughters and her husband so having to think about missing out on their futures is hard. How she deals with her problems is inspiring and yet immensely readable. I loved this book and the characters too.
I really enjoyed this book. It was written about the delicate issue of death but I thought it was well written. I’m not sure a person could actually plan for the remaining spouse to fall in love with a person chosen for them but they made it seem possible. I would like to read more from this author to see if future books are as well written.
I don't really know how to review this book. I do know it is powerful and thought provoking with sadness and joy, love and anger with depression and peace. This story tells us about the hard truths that life throws at us and demonstrates how we handle them and pick ourselves to go on living. Make sure you have tissues nearby while reading this story.
A beautiful story of a love that transcends all boundaries of time and the heart. A devoted wife and mother, Harley must deal with the worst that can happen to her family, and resolves to ensure their future happiness. Keep the Kleenex handy, but also enjoy the depth of one woman's love that knows no end. 👍👍👍👍👍
This book is very emotional, it brought tears to my eyes severally. It's about a woman dying of cancer, her pains, fears and struggles. With the fear of what will happen to her daughters and husband when she's gone, she embarked on looking for a perfect mother and wife for her daughters and husband...
I really have no words to express my feelings about this book! It made me laugh, cry and everything in between. Beyond the fact that it was such a beautiful story, the editing was perfect (one of my pet peeves is poor editing). This is one beautiful story not to miss😍
I loved this book. It made me cry a many a tear. I am a 77 year old 12 year breast cancer Survivor. I have often thought what would happen to my family once I have gone. Thank you for this book. I am going to try to find it in hard or soft back for family and friends.Thank you again
I was unable to put this book down. In fact, I was up until 3 a.m. reading it. The story of a husband, wife, four daughters and extended family dealing with the wife's diagnosis of stage 4 breast cancer was very realistic. When the wife and her sister-in-law decided to find a new mate for the husband and step-mother for the girls made the book even more interesting.
Hard to read something so devastating but informative. Feels like the author has been there. Felt like I wanted to quit after the first few chapters but am very glad I didn't. The next chapters were heart warming and delightful. The daughter Tina was wise beyond her years, the grandmothers set a good life example for all grandparents. Lovely story.
Harley and Joe discover her breast cancer. The story develops their continuing story as well as various family members. The characters are believable and interesting. The plot is interesting.
Thought I was never going to stop crying. Got so involved in the lives of the family and what they all were going through. Cancer is such a terrible thing to go through and this brings out how it affects everyone in the family and the courage involved in the fight to get thru it. Very well written
I only laid this book down once, just long enough to get a box og Kleenex and a glass of wine. I loved every minute of thisbook, it is truly a great story from beginning to end.
I am recovering from surgery --uterine cancer. I didn't know what the book was about, but I only have stage 1 so not other treatment needed. It was frightening to read, but also comforting.
Beautiful realistic heartbreak. You are wrapped up in the characters from the start. From the love, to loss, to love again. Really shows how a strong family can get on with life after loss.
This is a poignant story about a wide and mothers struggle with cancer and the grieving her husband and three daughters lived through following her death. Suzanne Jenkins deals with this difficult subject realistically but with compassion and empathy.
This book was so touching and thought provoking. It is amazing how much thought Harley put into planning the perfect life for her husband and family after her passing. Loved the book.
