Biography
As a child, TJ thrived in the Arizona desert. By the age of five she was riding horses through cotton fields and by eleven bought her first motorcycle, a Honda 125cc dirt bike. Growing up with teachers as parents meant traveling during the summer. Hiking, backpacking, fly fishing, climbing pyramids, surviving earthquakes, and flying in hot air balloons were just some of her adventures. An avid day dreamer, she would lose herself in mystical worlds and far off places limited only by her imagination. After choosing an academic scholarship over an athletic basketball scholarship, she graduated law school and accepted a position as a Deputy County Attorney. However, prosecuting felony crimes was not as exciting as she hoped, so she traded in her briefcase and the courtroom for a Glock and patrol car. She worked the road as a police officer for five years and now tells officers what to do as a policy writer for a police department. TJ writes from her heart by incorporating her dreams and experiences to create strong, passionate characters who must overcome personal flaws to survive against the challenges of traversing through magical realms, undiscovered planets, and apocalyptic catastrophes.

Divergent Bloodline is by T.J. Shaw. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by the author.

Viviane Taylor is a cop. It’s what she is, who she is, all she is. She was abandoned as a baby and grew up in foster care. Her work is pretty much what her life revolves around, her only friend being her partner, Mike. It was not unusual to be called out in the middle of the night for a murder. This one, though, was particularly gruesome. The next day the investigation leads her to question Julian DeMatteo. As soon as she entered his office, she felt it, that electricity, that force that drew her to him. Little did she know that this man with the eyes that seemed to see right through her, would forever change her life.

female police:

Julian DeMatteo was not human, he was immortal, a vampire. His kind have lived amongst humans from the beginning of time, staying hidden. Julian is vampire royalty, King of the Western Clans. When Viviane walked into his office, full of self confidence and strength, he could barely contain the beast within him. Julian is six hundred and sixty-eight years old. He locked away his humanity centuries ago. Never has a human affected him this way. He could barely suppress the need to claim her, to taste her, right there and then.

HottiesfromtheBoardroom:

“Why did this mortal woman threaten to awaken a disquiet within him that he quelled during his fledging days? She brought out a bit of the humanity he buried long ago, which disturbed him. Such fascination for a human female was a failing, and a king who showed any weakness became a target.”

As Julian and Viviane spend time together, the pull is nearly impossible to resist. Would one night of feeling wanted and cared for by the most beautiful man she has ever seen be so bad? But anything happening between them could jeopardize her case and her job.

vampire love:

As Julian fights a war within him to keep his beast restrained, he knows that he must have her. As Viviane continues to investigate the murder, she becomes the interest of Julian’s rival clan, the Beaudeax Clan, one of which is the murderer she is looking for. Julian’s interest in her also makes her a target. Julian will stop at nothing to keep her safe but it’s not enough. Viviane is taken.

love

This was my very first book by T.J. Shaw and what a ride it was. I loved the intense romance between Julian and Viviane which was both sexy and tense as she fought against her feelings. As she becomes the target of the Beaudeax Clan, the secret of the immortals that they are is revealed. The man that she has been falling in love with is not human. How could this be? How could she not have known?

There is so much more to be revealed. There are secrets hidden in Viviane’s past. Secrets that will explain the inexplicable way Julian is drawn to her, secrets that might have been prophesied as far back as the first original immortal. But none of this matters if Julian can’t save the woman he can’t exist without.

This book has just about everything I enjoy, an intense love story, lots of awesome sexual chemistry, an alpha male that will stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves, and a build up to a crazy, intense ending that most definitely raised my heart rate. I truly did enjoy this book and I’m so glad T.J. Shaw gave me the opportunity to share it with you.

Divergent Bloodline is T.J. Shaw's newest novel and it's one exciting story!

I am a vampire genre junkie so when Ms. Shaw asked me to read and review Divergent Bloodline I was both thrilled and apprehensive. Thrilled because I haven't read a great vampire book lately and needed a 'fix', and apprehensive because none of the vamp stories I've recently read have WOW'd me and I was concerned that maybe I was becoming bored with what has been my favorite PNR genre.

Anyway - my apprehension was for naught! Julian and Viviane are people I came to care about, who kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning because I simply had to see how they'd work things out and come together for their happy eternally after.

The bottom line - Divergent Bloodline is fast paced, exciting, edgy, romantic, and passionate. I wavered between 4 and 5 stars but decided to round it up because it really is a great story, and the world Ms. Shaw has created has the makings of a great series! I am truly hopeful that she continues writing it.

A killer is on the loose and homicide detective Viviane Taylor has her eyes on the mysterious and powerful Julian DeMatteo as the prime suspect. A seasoned and dogged criminalist, Viviane’s life revolves around her job, as her friends and family list is pretty much non-existent. Little did she know, Julian would light a flame within her that could either get her burned or be her salvation?

Julian is king of the vampires, a cold and lonely job. Hardened by years of necessary brutality, he has lost what was left of his humanity until Viviane walked in, all brave and determined and just special. Will Julian have to choose between this amazing human and his people? If so, what are the consequences they will have to pay? Will Viviane uncover the true killer or become a target for rival vampire clans as the Achilles’ heel that Julian should never show? Has a long forgotten prophecy brought them together? Is there more to Viviane than meets the eye?

Forbidden love, intense danger hiding in the shadows highlight T.J. Shaw’s dark fantasy, Divergent Bloodline as the worlds of the humans collide with the vampire world. Like your heroine with grit? Meet Viviane. Like a little old-fashioned mannerisms in your dark hero? Meet Julian, unlike most heroes, but just as lethal. Can two beings, one immortal and one with a finite lifespan find the freedom to love, for a blip of time?

T.J. Shaw has all the darkness required to feel the grit and the tension while still managing to pull off an intense romance that almost ignites the pages. Strong characters, some with questionable loyalty to their king round out a fresh and bold approach in a popular genre. Trust me, no vamps will sparkle, they are the real deal and quite beastly at times, when their blood calls on their inner monsters.

I received this copy from T.J. Shaw in exchange for my honest review.

**2.5 stars**

I guess I will be the lone dissenting negative review for this book but I just did not like it. First off, I should state that I have high expectations for paranormal romance. If you are going to create a world, do a good job with the world building. I felt like this book was a let down with the world building, the story and the characters. First, I felt the vampire world was not explained very well. We didn't find out enough about how everything works and how the different clans interact with themselves and humans. The story itself was frustrating, there were time jumps which left out crucial details about the lead couple developing a relationship. Then when the heroine is kidnapping she is attacked and starts the change, I hated that because I would rather see the hero doing it, it just felt wrong. I was willing to go with it though but then it happened again. There was too much description of the violence toward the heroine, I didn't want to see her go through that much. I also didn't like the ending, it was basically not an ending but I guess it doesn't matter because I will not be continuing with the series. I think the hero was a big disappointment. He is supposed to be this alpha King of vampires but he comes off as wimpy and beta. When the clans are after the heroine, he wants to run away instead of fighting them. He just seemed to let others make decisions too much and seemed powerless. Overall, the beginning of the story seemed promising but it went downhill by the end and I was disappointed.

A new vampire series has arrived! This is my first book by this author but I noticed a few positive reviews and as I'm a fan of vampire stories could not resist. It begins with murder ( don't all the best stories?) and the reader is pulled into this crazy world where immortals hide in plain sight. Our heroine is Viviane, a tough no nonsense detective. She has a partner who really gets her and joy of joy her fellow officers are friends too! Finally a story that doesn't feature misogynistic guys belittling a female just because she has ovaries !
Viviane has suspicions about wealthy and possibly dirty Julian but he's so much more than she expected. Yes he is smooth, sexy and totally full of himself but from the start their chemistry is off the charts. Sadly unknown to Viviane Julian is hiding something that could truly blow her mind and yet the pull between them is inevitable . Drawn towards each other both will face obstructions but Viviane is deep into something that is far more dangerous than anything she has ever encountered. Secrets have a way of coming to light and boy does this author shake things up!
It's always exciting to read a refreshing new take on vampires. I will be frank and say there's a lot of descriptive prose here which many readers will lap up but it felt overdone at times to this reader. I prefer dialogue and action not internal naval gazing and possibly a different beta/editor would have tightened this up. The constant descriptive imagery just pulled me out of the story from descriptions of eyes or hair( which weirdly seemed to change colour from honey to copper!) and the one that had me laughing was Merlot described as crisp because that sounds more like a white wine to me. Although I'm well aware that others enjoy seeing and feeling what the characters experience so will not let that colour my judgement too much.
So what did work for me? It's a whole new way of viewing how immortals might coexist amongst us. I cannot deny the intense passion that keeps pulling the couple together but I didn't understand how if Julian was King how other vampires could hold sway over him. I'm a little confused about the time line ( weeks or months?) but once the story gathered pace and things really started to happen it became a much more engaging read. I won't give too much away but Viviane goes through truly terrifying ordeals that will have you cringing . Now luckily the author clearly realises that her readers want to be on the edge of their seats and yet still get an ending to leave them smiling.
An interesting beginning and I'm curious how Ms Shaw will continue with this series

3.5 stars!

I’m always keen to explore a new paranormal world, and with this book T.J. Shaw has given us an intriguing story with a great supernatural foundation, a crime/mystery/suspense plotline, a bit of action, a gorgeous romance, and a brand new vampire king to fall in love with.

Viviane Taylor is a homicide detective investigating a brutal murder, and clues are pointing her to an enigmatic, high-powered businessman with suspected Mob ties, Julian De Matteo. Her initial meeting with Julian sparks a mad attraction that she tries hard to ignore. Not only is he off limits as a suspect in her case, but he is terrifyingly intense, and she is frightened by the force of her pull to him

Of course she has no idea that Julian is not in the Mob, he is actually a powerful vampire, and King of the vampire clans within his region. Ruthless and violent, Julian is a strong and decisive leader. He is well aware of the murder that has been committed, and as both the victim and the perpetrator are vampires, he is handling the issue. However, his arrogant and blasé demeanour hides an inner turmoil as Viviane stirs things within him that he has never experienced before.

When his hand settled on the small of her back a searing energy ripped through him establishing an immediate connection. With her essence anchored in his mind, his beast screamed to claim her.

I don’t want to go too much into the storyline because it’s best just to dive in and experience it, and with a suspense/mystery element to the plot, I don’t want to spoil anything, but this was a really great read! The paranormal world isn’t too complex, and the action and excitement keep the story moving at a great pace. It’s written in dual POV so we get to see all that Viviane and Julian are going through, and I really liked both of their voices.

Julian has never felt so drawn to another person, let alone a human, and his curiosity over the situation balanced with his desire for Viviane and his need to claim her is really well done. And Viviane has no idea of the vampire world, and her introduction to it all is terrifying and mysterious and creates a great mood for the book. I enjoyed the way it all comes together, and as Viviane is brutally sucked into Julian’s world (no pun intended), the twists and turns kept me flipping pages as I kept wondering what was going to happen next.

But let’s face it, it’s all about the romance, and this one is swoony, smart and incredibly passionate. Vivian and Julian are both very strong characters, and their journey is a bumpy one, but it adds a bit of angst which I really enjoyed, and it gives us a great story as we watch them falling for each other against the odds.

“I love you. From the first moment I met you, you captured my heart when I didn’t want to give it away. You consume my waking thoughts and follow me into my dreams.”

Julian is everything you would expect a vampire king-in-love to be – hot, dominant, possessive and protective. He struggles with his very nature as he comes to realise his feelings for Viviane, but he knows all along it is a losing battle and that he has to have her, and I love that in a romantic hero!!

Tonight he would take her as a man, but soon he’d grant his demon the thrill of embracing her as its mate.

Viviane has a few moments of stupid, but the poor woman has had her whole world ripped out from underneath her, so I’m happy to cut her some slack. She fights for her independence, but is brave enough to follow her heart and with all that she goes through, I think she handles herself really well.

The romance blends in really nicely with the action and suspense, and the building danger facing the couple adds a nice sense of intensity to the story as it leads up to the exciting ending. There’s a great cast of supporting characters, and with the extra twists thrown in at the end, I’m hoping that Shaw makes this into a series so that we can see what comes next for these characters.

Overall, an intriguing and enjoyable read. I really liked it – 3.5 stars.

Write What You Know

They say to write what you know. I don’t know who “they” are, but the advice seems sound. Since I’ve been a felony crimes prosecutor, worked the road as a police officer, and now write policy and procedure for the same police department, I decided to combine some of my passions into what is now Divergent Bloodline.

Cops are a rare breed. They witness not only the good people do for each other, but also respond to volatile, emotional situations often resulting in heartbreak. The stress officers work under on a daily basis is incredible. They form strong bonds with fellow cops to survive the mental and physical demands placed upon them. Your partner is more than a friend; your partner protects your back when you enter the building with guns drawn.

Although Divergent Bloodline is a work of fiction and focuses on the romance between a homicide suspect (who happens to be a vampire) and the detective assigned to the case, I tried to capture the special relationship officers share with each other. I hope you enjoy Divergent Bloodline as much as I loved writing it.

***A complimentary copy of this read was furnished by NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review***

Little did homicide detective Viviane Taylor know her life would never be the same the moment she went to a murder scene at the dock. Clues point to 'businessman' Julian DeMatteo and luck of the draw sends her to his doorstep for the requisite questioning. From the moment Viviane entered Julian's office they were both doomed by their mutual instant attraction.

As a master vampire and King of the Western Clans, Julian hasn't had a reaction to a woman the way he responds to Viviane in his 600 years of existence. He also knows she's forbidden fruit unless circumstances change. Orphaned as an infant and having no friends or associates that aren't on the job, Viviane has no one to talk to about the excitement she feels just being near Julian brings.

A business dinner turns personal and ends in a goodnight kiss has them both retreating and wrapping themselves in obligations, albeit reluctantly, at least until after the investigation. Though their hearts and minds didn't believe they could be apart they tried to pretend. This reader appreciated the case and the motive not falling by the wayside once the star couple appeared.

From the first paragraph, I was engaged in the story and recognizable tropes weren't distracting because this was Julian and Viviane's story with their friends and their lives. The characters, including the maniacal villain were easy to invest in. The reader is on the ride with Viviane learning the rules of this world's Immortals.

Strong alpha Julian was dominant without bluster. Viviane was a smart, independent, strong woman in her own right and oozed power herself. Their first meeting was not about how gorgeous the other was. Something else appealed. Also their love affair seemed to go the way of mortals (what's your middle name?; tell me about your family?, etc.). How refreshing!

The suspense, paranormal and romance pieces were each critical to the balance and pacing of the read and held together well. The danger, suspense and WTF were captivating. It might not be a perfect read but hell if I can find a fault. It was perfect for this reader and I have hope for a sequel. Having not read this author before there was no expectations but I'll certainly search for more great reads from her.

Independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock, I was gifted my copy of this book.

As King of the Northern Clans, Julian has seen everything, and done everything in his time. But Viviane is a surprise. His beast within, long dormant, springs to life and cause Julian to put his reign into jeopardy. Viviane just wants to solve this murder. Julian is a suspect. But her reaction to him is primal, and leads her into a world she never knew existed.

Its been a while since I had a vampire (although here, they just like to be called Immortals!) book grab me. This one did. I really, really enjoyed it!!

Its dark and deadly, sexy and steamy, long held prophecies come to fruition in a way no one expected. Its bloody and violent, and its hot and passionate! Oh it has a little bit of everything for everyone.

If you like you vampires...ahem...Immortals... dark and broody, and you can see their fall coming at you hard and fast, one for you. If you like your heroines strong and independent, one of you. If you like an Immortal who is strong and will do anything for his mate, one for you.

Really, I thoroughly enjoyed it!! Cant quite stretch to 5 stars but...

4.5 stars

I really wanted to like this book since I loved another book by T.J. Shaw Caller of Light so much. Divergent Bloodline was a bit confusing and not as cohesive a story. Even the ending seemed HFN and open to continuation. There were secrets that were divulged too late and seemed out of the blue. The direction of the story seemed more about the instalust than the more interesting facets of the heroine revealed late in the story. Although I found this book disappointing in comparison to Caller of Light I do look forward to T.J. Shaw's future works.

I very much enjoyed this book. I loved the character development of Viviane from a cop to a mate, with all the highs and lows that happened in between. This is a nice, fast paced read that the storyline brought quite a bit of complexity into an otherwise typical romance. Divergent Bloodline is well written, with a broad, complex storyline that leaves plenty of room for future books, which I for one would love to pursue. Well done, and thank you for the opportunity to review!

Reviewed at Keeper Bookshelf

There are three things that tell me if the book in front of me is going to be a keeper. World building. Secondary characters. And the believably of the main couple. For me personally, if those three magical elements do not come together – then it was simply a decent story, and I’ll easily move on to the next one.

Divergent Bloodline is set in a world that I could easily walk down the streets. I might be afraid, look over my shoulder at shadows but I could easily accept this world’s reality. While there aren’t legions of secondary characters, the ones we meet matter. Funny, serious and even deadly – they help make the story itself come alive with visions I’m seeing through their eyes. I don’t do sparkly vampires. I simply do not. If that is your thing I’m totally happy for you – enjoy. A vampire that I can believe exists is really closer to the ultimate bad boy ever. A hint of darkness. An air of sensuality. An underlying fear of being in the presence of a contained (for the moment) predator. A sense of knowing if this being gave you the ultimate gift of their affection and protection your life would be infinitely changed and improved. Maybe I ask a lot of my vampires – but they must feel powerful and beyond human control. I need a heroine who is strong in her own skin, a bit stubborn, sometimes careless with her own safety, one who is definitely cocky and does not need a man to complete her life, thank you very much. She must be strong enough to stand up to her hero, yet female enough to enjoy their differences. An absolute necessity is a story that draws me and and never lets go until the final word – and them leaves me wanting just a bit more.

Yes, I’ve just described Divergent Bloodline.

Viviane’s day started with a dead body on the docks. One without his heart. Her investigation will send her into Julian’s lair, his very high rise lair. While she doesn’t get the straight answers she’s after, she does get something else. An unmistakable attraction to a powerful man who is most definitely a suspect at this time.

Julian is the most powerful immortal on the planet. This vampire king has not kept his place of power by being sidetracked by a beautiful mortal – until Viviane walked, or stormed, into his office. There is something about her that draws out his demon, that whispers things that would break every single rule his kind lives by – rules he has ordered others to kill over when disobeyed. What is it about this mortal that winds him up so much that he would consider risking everything for?

Divergent Bloodline will slowly reveal why Viviane is such a draw to Julian – and why this smart, stubborn detective cannot walk away from this man. Within this story you will discover secrets, lies, betrayal and a love that surpasses everything an immortal ever thought possible. With expertly woven threads, you will laugh, cry, be outraged and seduced. This story, in my opinion, has everything I’d look for in the first of a series. And I seriously hope that Ms. Shaw considers returning to this world again. I think there are still untold stories there in the shadows.

If you love vampires, paranormal romance and the feeling of standing on the edge of a cliff throughout – then have I got a story for you! I’ve given Divergent Bloodline a 4.5 rating, which will round up on the places I re-post reviews.

REVIEW OF DIVERGENT BLOODLINES by TJ Shaw
5 stars
This book blew me away. From the world created to the storytelling it was beyond superb. With vivid descriptions and action packed scenes it drew me in so that I felt like I was surrounded by the Immortals and I never wanted to leave! Viviane is bright and tough and soft and vulnerable all at once. And Julian, well I want him. Plain as that. He is one hot alpha and unfortunately, all Viviane’s. More than that, he is loving and compassionate but will fight for Viviane to the end of his life. And he will rule the World of Immortals with an iron hand. The Great story came alive and swept me along until the end. I did not want it to end. I can only hope that Shaw will have more of the Immortals story. I will be first in line to buy the next book. This author has talent. Do yourself a favor and get this book. It is wonderful. MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

Dark, edgy, sexy, and intense, Divergent Bloodline by TJ Shaw is one of those paranormal romances that take you away fully into a world that is dark enough to keep your hair standing on end, yet incredibly entrancing. The characters are terrific and well developed. And the plot, absolutely thrilling!

This world that TJ Shaw created is eccentric and well, impressing. The cover alone had me curious but the story itself not only drew me in, but had me nibbling my lip, eagerly turning the page to find out what was going to happen next. This is the type of story that keeps me happy. One that can take me away and just leaves me breathless and completely intrigued and eager for more.

Divergent Bloodline gets a MIND BLOWING FIVE SHOOTING STARS! This book will take you away to a world that is dark and totally incredible. LOVED IT!

This book was a really nice surprise. it reminded me of books by Lara Adrian and JR Ward . I love the world building and the connection between Viv and Julian. I have never heard of this author but I am most certainly going to continue reading her books because I HIGHLY enjoy this one. I don't think this is going to be the end of the series and I think we're going to see more of the King and Queen and I really really can't wait to read about some of the other characters that she only gave us a little glimpse into their lives, her father. I received this book from Net Gallery for an honest review.

Divergent Bloodline Kindle Edition
by T J Shaw
I received a review copy via NetGalley for review purposes

DB is more than your average PNR or UF. TJ Shaw has created a fascinating new vampire type, world and great female character who is as powerful if not more than her hero!

I discovered Shaw from an ARC and instantly fell in love with Viviane in a way haven't fallen in years. Honestly, not since I picked up my first Rachel Harris novel. Yes,Viviane is that great! She is strong, holds her or overcomes situations that the hero is having trouble handling. Her past is tragic but the fact she has grown so far beyond it. Her passion for justice is only rivaled by her love for Julian, the Immortal (please, vampires are so passe'!)King, the ancient leader of the failing vampire clans and her mate.

Shaw has an amazing touch at all important PNR/UF/ACTION novels. She gets the emotions down, to the point you begin screaming at the book that NO! THAT CAN'T HAPPEN! Or begging the characters to do something. She masters that. The action, wow, ending battle! Just wow! Well done, madam, well done. And of course the steamy scenes, or eroticism. Oh, yeah!

This book is a fantastic trip into what I hope is a continuing series (Wilson, anyone? I'm much about Team Wilson) and a world to play in.

GREAT BOOK! Viviane meets immortal, Julian, during a homicide investigation. They are instantly drawn to one another. Viviane's life begins to immediately change and that leaves her wary. I don't want to leave any spoilers about Viviane. So I'll just say that will Viviane realize her true love for Julian before it's too late?

While this book was definitely not bad, it just didn't impress me all that much either. I did like the world the author created here and the hierarchy of the vampires though. The first half was pretty slow with not a lot really going on, then everything started happening. The latter half was chock full of all the activity and we had so much information shoved at us with little to no explanation or expansion on it...or which just seemed like it was thrown in there just because. Which was unfortunate because some of the things that happen or that we find out were kinda cool. For example, I would have loved to learn more about Viviane's father after finding out what he really was.

I didn't really like Viviane for one reason. I get so annoyed with people who push others away with cruel words and actions just to protect themselves. It's even worse when they love the person and that's why they're pushing them away. Viviane did this all the time and it ticked me off. Anyway, Viviane is a cop, and she believes a very good one at that. She is an orphan having been abandoned when she was a baby and her adopted parents dying when she was very young. She spent most of her life in the system and worked hard to be able to take care of herself and build a life. With no family, and only her partner as a friend, she doesn't realize how alone and lonely she is until she meets Julian and he makes her feel like never before. He soon has her questioning her goals for the future and fighting her heart.

I mostly liked Julian. Except for the fact that he was continuously referred to as an alpha male but was always such a sappy puppy when it came to Viviane. I always do so love a man with power and Julian is the immortal king of the western clans, and one of the most powerful immortals (they don't like to be called vampires). He has grown bored of life and predictability of humans. When he meets Viviane the beast inside him immediately takes notice and wants to claim her as its own. Viviane speaks to him in ways that nobody would ever dare and he quickly falls under her spell. Despite the darkness that lives in him, she brings more light to his life and makes him feel more free than he ever has. He falls for her fast and will even challenge the code that has ruled their kind since their original maker to have her.

When an immortal is murdered and Julian's men aren't able to take care of it fast enough, Viviane and her partner are the ones who are to handle the case. The victim was an employee of Julian's which leads Viviane to his office. Despite her best effort, her attraction to him undeniable and soon enough they start dating. Julian keeps his immortality to himself because he doesn't want to scare her off, but the beast in him is beating at him to claim her as his mate. Too late he realizes that at the very least her should have marked her. When a shady clan leader kidnaps Viviane, Julian is beside himself with rage at the audacious act.

It's from this point that everything seems to happen. Viviane goes thru a torturous time while held captive as they slowly turn her into an immortal. Julian is almost too late to save her, but he believes he made it in time. It's not long after that he knows something is wrong and Viviane is not better. Julian's advisor is piecing together all that he sees going on between his King and Viviane and soon concludes that she is part of a prophecy (which seemed totally random. Yes, we were told the prophecy at the very beginning, but it didn't seem like a big deal at all as it was never even mentioned. Then all of a sudden it's something super important to the continuation of the immortal race. Uh huh.). And with this revelation, comes the biggest shock to them all. Now more determined than ever, Julian must fight his foes to protect Viviane and their life together. It's during this fight that Viviane's own powers are revealed along with what she really is. Despite the numerous questions that I still have about so many things, it wasn't a bad ending. And Julian and Viviane are no doubt going to be the strongest couple in immortal history.

THE BEAUTIFUL COP

THE HUNKY VAMPIRE KING

AND AN ATTRACTION THAT CAN’T BE DENIED

They don’t what know has hit them when the heat, attraction, and longing begins; they are confused and worried. Can the lonely cop and the vampire king form an alliance of life and love?

STORY-LINE:

Viviane Taylor is a detective in the homicide division; she is a good detective with excellent instincts and hunches. Called to the scene of a gruesome murder, Viviane has a hunch that Julian DeMatteo’s involved. DeMatteo, reputed mobster, has his fingers in lots of pies. His reputation is one of philanthropic endeavors and community action, but Viviane knows he has a seamy side as well.

The first meeting is a revelation to both of them. What is going on? What are they so attracted beyond reason to each other? How can this possibly work to the good of the human or vampire world?

Come along with Viviane and Julian as they solve mysteries, murders, answers to questions they didn’t know existed and perhaps find love. My vampire romance book reviews follow.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

TJ Shaw begins this novel with a bang and the action never slows nor lags. From the first pages, I realized I was in for a great vampire love story and would be up late reading. This is an intriguing, emotion-filled story of two people who are private, lonely, closed off, and needy, yet to all appearances, they have it all.

One an accomplished police officer, the other is Vampire King (Immortals as they prefer) of the Western Clans; a species and complex world unknown to humans. One is about to go against all she believes, her code of honor and her principles; the other is facing betrayal of the very rules he created. TJ Shaw portrayed the emotional battles with intensity and skill. Her descriptions of Julian and Viviane’s emotions and thoughts were so vivid I could feel the confusion and need. As well as, the protectiveness, loneliness, and burning desire. The love between Julian and Viviane is explosive, hot, and steamy. His need to protect Viviane is so sweet, and so sigh worthy.

The mystery of Viviane’s past is skillfully and slowly revealed; what a surprise! This book has several surprises in store for the reader. This is not the same old vampire story from the past. You will not be bored with this book.

MY OPINION:

Shaw kept the mystery and emotion at high peak throughout this novel. The plot and pace were on target and masterfully executed. The pace did not lag or slow. Divergent Bloodline will keep you up long into the night as you the devour each page. Shaw builds her vampire world of politics, emotions, greed, jealousies, and of course, love, expertly as she shows her world much like the human world; with the same faults, failures, and successes. Of course, every hero and heroine must face adversity, and TJ Shaw created worthy opponents in her story.

This book includes all the elements needed for a successful story. The author expertly developed the characters and story-line; Shaw‘s pacing and scenes flowed seamlessly from one scene to the next. Shaw skillfully wove the many threads in this book into a complete and cohesive story; her command of the story-telling is evident as her writing style is clear, fresh, and well-formed.

I hope she has plans to expand this story into a series, as I can see several avenues open for continuance of the story-line.
RECOMMENDATION: STARS 5

This is the first of TJ Shaw‘s book I have read; it will not be the last. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves to read a story that is well-written, well-developed, and holds the reader’s attention. It does contain several love scenes; I did not consider them explicit, overdone nor lengthy, rather love between two people very much in love and mated.

Vampire Love!

Viviane is a tough cop trying to find a murderer. When a member of Julian DeMatteo’s gang is killed, Viviane is forced to confront the lethal man of power.

Julian DeMatteo is the king of all the vampire clans. Viviane is drawn to him but she doesn’t back down. Julian can’t believe she treats him like a common criminal. He knows it isn’t wise to get involved with a human because things can go terribly wrong and he has to protect their secret of being vampires.

When Viviane can’t say no to Julian, she feels she has compromised her investigation. So what is she to do? She doesn’t figure that her partner will be killed and she will be kidnapped by another vampire clan and fed on slowly. She eventually escapes her captors and drives to Julian’s’ estate. She is let in and collapses in Julian’s councils arms. Julian is notified and returns to find her near death. He gives her his blood and chooses not to live without her.

This story grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. The sex scenes were steamy and very hot. You might want a cool drink with this book. Wow!

I loved that Viviane could give Julian back his humanity and that he would fight to the death for her. He was strong and truly the king of the vampires. But Viviane being an orphan didn’t know her origins and is shocked to find out who her dad is. She is the promised one that was foretold by the vampire’s books. She was changing and was trying to understand it all. She also was having a baby with Julian which should be impossible. Nothing is impossible in books.

I highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to read another book from this author.

This is a wonderful written story about immortals (vampire) that they draw you in. Meet Viviane who has always been a loner since birth, so she does not have any friends except her partner on the police force Mike. Not much affects Viviane in her job as Homicide but their latest crime can make the hardest rethink things. When Viviane goes to meet someone of interest in the case, Julian. Viviane has never felt this instance chemistry with any one. Julian is an old immortal and when he meets Viviane he is having a hard time of keeping himself in check and not claiming her right then and there. Julian is royalty and has the confidence that he can do anything and have all. All of that is throw out with Viviane. With the investigate in to the murder point more and more to some one that is in another clan then Julian. Will Viviane be able to keep her personal and business life separate? Will Viviane and Julian secrets destroy their blooming relationship? The action and suspense of the story keep me hook and who doesn’t love some secret love of a vampire, ooopss sorry meant immortals. Highly Recommend this story

Viviane is a hard nosed detective. When she goes after her man she gets him no matter what. This changes when she meets the very handsome and wealthy suspect, Julian. She is unnerved by him from the moment she meets him. Julian finds himself enthralled by this woman that doesn’t fear him. He is used to people being scared since he is the king of the vampires. This is a secret that he keeps hidden from Viviane until she is thrust into their world. She feels her world is turning upside. Its not only her world but also her. She feels a darkness that has been caged away coming lose. What will Viviane find if she allows herself to fall for her king?

This was a very refreshing paranormal romance. The characters are entertaining, enthralling and contain more layers as you get further into the novel. The world that T.J Shaw has built is one that will keep you turning the pages until you have read every secret about Viviane and Julian. You will fall in love with Julian and his second, Wilson. The strong Alpha vampires will leave you wishing you could step into a conference room and meet them. This novel is a fantastic first novel that could lead to many more if T.J Shaw were to grant the wishes of her fans. For paranormal romance readers, you will find a world that won’t disappoint and will leave you begging for more.

(Review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

We are all familiar with the allure of vampires/immortals. Through television and movies, we have grown to love many: Angel and Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Bill and Eric (True Blood), Tom Cruise as Lestat de Lioncourt and Brad Pitt as Louis de Pointe du Lac (Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice), and (not my favorite vamp but....) Edward (Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer).

So, it is not surprising Viviane succumbed to temptation; otherwise known as Julian. He is strong, like her. Commands attention, like her. And demands obedience, like her. (No spoilers, sorry)

These two at the helm will be a force to reckon with but I'm sure someone will --- again.

I had only one small 'eh' moment. It was when Viviane called him for help, screaming for it. He actually used mortal instead of immortal means of transportation to reach her.

Ok, at first I was thinking.... he must abide by the Code (don't draw attention to their kind). However, a few pages later, he threw the rulebook out the window when her body convulsed at the park.

You'd think he would've used his super speed earlier, but nope.

Besides that, nothing screamed at me saying WTBH.

All in all, a bloody good read. (pun intended)

This was my first time reading anything by T.J. Shaw and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this great vampire story. T.J.Shaw has given us a story that draws us in and keeps us there until the end ,and then leaves us wanting more from this author. The sex is spice hot and very steamy and your need a fan close by for this one This story is about Julian DeMatteo who's the king of all the vampires and then there's Vivian Taylor who's a homicide detective and she's drawn to Julian and won't back off him .But Julian can't believe that she's treating him like a low life criminal .But in his world it;s not very smart to get mixed up with a human,it's just that he must keep their secret of them being vampire .Vivian just can't seem to say no to him,bu she knows that she has compromised the case that she's investigating . But poor Vivian ever thought that her partner would be killed ,and her be kidnapped by a clan of vampires that would fed on her slowly. But some how she managed to escape and she goes to Julian's estate and falls in to the arm of his council, he then is connected to come home and when he returns to his estate he finds he near death and feeds her his blood to save her ,because he can't live without her. I could tell you more about this story but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this amazing story you won't be disappointed.

Detective Viviane Taylor is investigating the murder of Victor Gleason and the trail has led her to the powerful businessman Julian DeMatteo. Viviane knows that Julian is definitely hiding something and she knows she must find out what, while putting her attraction to him aside.

Julian DeMatteo is the king of vampires and knows he is walking a fine line with his attraction to Viviane and protecting his people. When one of his enemies puts Viviane in danger Julian knows he must protect her at all costs, no matter how many alliances he loses.

This was a good story that evolved into a more complex story than what I was expecting. I loved all the initial tension between Viviane and Julian as they tried to figure out what there relationship could be.

I thought Katherine was pretty evil and controlling with how she felt with Julian and never really knew which side she was going to be on. Julian was so protective over Viviane that I didn't know what would happen with their alliance.

The love of Viviane and Julian seemed true and I don't know if she caught the eye of Eddie as a way of getting to Julian or because he knew more than they did about Viviane.

This was my first time reading the author and it won't be my last.

Divergent Bloodlines by T.J. Shaw is a paranormal romance. Viviane Taylor works with her partner Mike hunting down the bad guys and closing case after case for her precinct. She is driven by her career, her dream is to be the first female lieutenant in her department, and her career seems to be on track. That is until an early morning call rouses her, another murder. But this will be unlike any she had faced in her career. She is thrust head first into a world she knows nothing about, and Julian DeMatteo, King of this world, will do all he can to ensure she stays beside him, where she belongs. But other people have different ideas. Viviane can't understand her pull to this man, from the time she first face him she was under his thrall, and whilst he wants her as his own, he must also shield her from the knowledge of his world.

An enjoyable paranormal romance written in a beautifully descriptive style Divergent Bloodlines would be enjoyed by more mature fans of The Vampire Diaries fans. It contains erotic scenes, action, romance, controversy, and what paranormal tale would be complete without secrets and revelations? The characters are well-developed, and the author successfully creates the right amount of intrigue to keep those pages turning.

While tracking down a serial killer, detective Viviane Taylor comes across a force she has never encountered, someone who excites her and even though he is forbidden she’s determined to uncover his secrets in this captivating paranormal romance. This a vampire world with some interesting and different elements that caught my interest from the very beginning and the story covered quite a bit of time from the beginning to the end which I felt made it a little choppy but it didn’t really take away from the story, also I was unable to discover if the author intends to write other books in this world, I hope so, because while this story had a conclusion, I felt that there was things left open or it may be better to say that the world needs further exploring so that Viviane and Julian’s part continues to grow and bring about those conclusions.
