Dino Buzzati Traverso (1906 – 1972) è stato uno scrittore, giornalista, pittore, drammaturgo, librettista, scenografo, costumista e poeta italiano.
Dino Buzzati Traverso was an Italian novelist, short story writer, painter and poet, as well as a journalist for Corriere della Sera. His worldwide fame is mostly due to his novel Il deserto dei Tartari, translated into English as The Tartar Steppe.
All these short stories have in common that they are coloured by a absurdist humor. Each story tells about a situation, that is presented as a normal event with persons acting also very normally. But step by step the stories evolve to completely absurd situations, but however absurd the situations are, the persons involved (frequently the narrator of the story himself) keep on acting in what seems to be to them the only logical way to act. This absurdist logic makes the reader smile and even laugh while he’s absorbed in this logic. The psychological analysis of the antagonists of the stories is fine and well situated in the spirit of the times and in the environment (the city of Milano).
