Between Sanity and Madness: An Anthology of Verses

Rate this book
This Anthology consists of poems – or ‘verses’ as I like to call them – taken from four slim volumes and written over a period of six difficult years in my life. One of the poets I have always found most readable is Byron – particularly in his epic poems. In these he airs his innermost feeling and opinions, almost as if he were having a conversation in a room full of people. My verses, although not in any way in his league and certainly not epic, are written in a similar way. The feelings and observations are written in order to connect, sometimes with anger, sometimes with humour, and, in the final poems, in a calmer and more optimistic frame of mind. I hope those of you who read them will find something to enjoy, maybe even recognise, and to occasionally raise a smile.

An anthology of verse

This slim volume contains 33 short poems drawn from the author's published works and spanning the years from 1997 to 2002.

McCulloch wrote these poems over a difficult six years of her life and they resonate with her deep and raw inner feelings as life plays hard ball.

Each poem will speak to someone who has questioned why life has dealt a particular card, and I myself found a connection with the first one, The Edge, which many of us face when life gets tough and we question our sanity. This poem, and the others in the collection, puts in to words those difficult feelings which we struggle to name.

Sometimes angry, other times sad, the verses are never mawkish and come across as candid and credible. If you ever feel that life has taken a difficult or cruel turn, you will find something here to speak to your soul.
