The moment Charlotte Wilde's divorce finally came through, she realized she was tired of life working as a reporter for a big city newspaper. When the chance to purchase the Cosset Cove Advertiser, a small weekly newspaper in the New England seaside town she'd spent many happy childhood vacations, it seemed too good an opportunity to turn down.
Charlotte soon settles in to her new role as owner, chief reporter and general gofer of the Advertiser. Life is sweet, her new friends and colleagues Clara, Abigail and Amy, along with Barney, the huge Maine Coon cat, can both delight and frustrate in equal measure.
This idyllic new life is disturbed when Charlotte has to interview a blast from her past. It is completely shattered when that interview leads to murder. Things only go from bad to worse as Charlotte is suspected of being the culprit. Can Charlotte, and her new found friends, clear her name and bring the real murderer to justice? Or will being on the trail of a cold blooded killer only put their own lives at risk?
“A charming traditional cozy mystery in a modern day setting. Contains plenty of light witty humor and will keep you guessing right to the end!”
I debated between 2 and 3 stars, mainly because of the prolific punctuation errors and the terrible misuse of the word "sat". This book definitely needed the deft hand of a good editor! The constant need to mentally edit as one reads is very distracting and annoying.
That being said, the story itself was not bad and the characters were pretty likeable for the most part. The culprit was sort of obvious early on, but not the motive, so that was a nice little twist at the end.
I'm not sure if I will continue on with this series, but I might try the second book eventually just to see if the editing has improved.
Nice little cozy mystery if you don't mind poor punctuation and editing issues.
Quite a simple little story in which it was relatively easy to work out who done it, but the twist was in why, and that was a surprise! Some spelling and proof reading errors, but all in all a nice short read.
This was my time reading a story from this author. I enjoyed learning about Charlotte and the women working for her. I plan to read more the adventures of this group of women
This is easy to read and the author builds the storyline to a surprise conclusion. Love the cat. However several misspelled words and one word misused.
Unable to finish: I tried to get through it but kept putting it down due to all the errors in grammar and punctuation. They were so distracting that I could only make it through 15% of the book. I want to know how the story ends so if there is an update to the Kindle version with corrections, I'd be willing to pick it back up and add my updates to the review.
This is very fast read. Charlotte is going to interview an ex boyfriend. A few hours later he has been murdered and she is now a suspect. Can Charlotte and her friends solve this murder or will she become the next victim? Give this a try.
Really enjoyed the book. All good books have one thing in common, after the book ends you feel sad because you want to visit with your friends some more. This was book two in the series and I plan on reading the rest of the series!
This is the first book that I have read from this author. I really enjoyed it. This is an easy, who done it story. The author keeps you guessing...it has some very interesting characters, that can easily be your next door neighbor. Looking forward to the next book.
