I’m liking the direction this is taking, and especially the direction Mark is taking. It’s rather like we’re seeing a revolutionary comic about superheroes here that is evolving into something smart as well as gutsy or something.

Nah, that couldn’t be… COULD IT?

Yep. I do believe it is happening. I really like where this is going. :)

By far my least favorite volume. The first half was utterly underwhelming and, well, boring. It's not even that this is coming after the Viltrumite War. It's just that it was bad. It was dull. And to be honest I'm only rounding this up to 3☆ because the few panels between Rex and Monster Girl were so good (because I already know what's coming and I truly enjoyed their story arc).
If it weren't for that, I'd keep the two stars.

You know I love Invincible, right? But this might be my least favorite volume.
It was just... boring. Pacing issues, lack of action and the plot isn't moving. Just meh. This volume comes after the Viltrumite war so I was expecting something else, something that would tie a bit with the overall story. But in fact there are minor stories and minor characters reappearing that aren't that interesting or exciting.

You know what I loved of the first volumes of Invincible? The family dynamic. It was so fun and refreshing and touching to read, but this has been slowly disappearing to make room for Mark's romantic life. This time around we have Nolan and Debbie disappearing to another planet at the beginning of this volume, making way for Mark and Eve to move in together and dealing with Eve's abortion and how lonely she was after Mark went away. It is all... so boring. I personally don't care for them together as a couple and the amount of time Eve is getting, having no storyline, at all... it's just getting really annoying to read. This combined with the relationship problems that Robot/Rex and Monster Girl are experiencing... it is all so angsty right now. Not really what I was expecting after Viltrumite War.

On a more positive note, it's interesting how Mark's actions are starting to change. He's questioning himself and his past decisions. Maybe fighting against the bad guys isn't enough, maybe these battles aren't the only way to saving the world. Is it enough to stop some random villain when the next day the same thing is waiting to happen? Maybe saving the world and making a difference have other ways, more meaningful ways. So that's the good that comes with this volume. It is amazing seeing Mark's character development from the beginning of the series to where he is now. He really is one of my favorite characters.

Like I said before, because not much happen this time around and the pacing is off this was my least favorite volume. But that doesn't mean that I'm not excited to keep reading and seeing how Mark is going to act and what other difficulties are waiting. Kirkman has a way of surprising his readers and to keep the story fresh. So even though I didn't enjoy Vol 15: Get Smart I'm still reading the next volume as soon as I can.

Probably one of the slower volumes. It feels like building a lot of things, but not giving us any major moments. Things that were set up are finished, like we finally get Eve telling Mark what happened while he was gone. You also see how things are changing and how Mark's way of thinking is slowly evolving, growing, just like him.

I always have a issue with characters being the same old through their entire time on comic pages. Mark feels VERY different from how he felt back in volume 1. Bigger ideas, scope much larger, trying to figure out who he is and what he is. By the end there's a big twist, and it's actually nice to see changes in our favorite hero.

It's not a super exciting volume but good enough that we move pieces along. Plus we have some great "oh shit' moments by the end.

This was a fun volume and shows the forgiving side of Mark as he forgives his old villains for what they did like with Gravitator and has an interesting fight with Dinosaurus even though it destroys Las Vegas and then we have a short story with Universa and Mark helping her, tensions between Rex and Monster Girl, wherever they went to and what happened to Eve and that was shocking and kinda brutal but makes sense. Also Ma and Pa Grayson are off to space after getting together and then what Mark does in the end with Dinosaurus, just wow. This series keeps shocking with all the things it does and is unexpected but continues the progress of Mark as an adult! The art is fabulous and really pleasing to look at!

Best way to develop a character. I absolutely love what Kirkman did here to show you Invincible's ARC so far in big neon letters, but it did come across as more goofy than it should've, and the remodelled artstyle just ain't got the same vibes (even when it's the same artist).

Once, 'Invincible' Mark Greyson attacked and fought his own boss Cecil Stedman (AKA the Nick Fury of this Invincibleverse) and then broke away from under him because he couldn't stand to see some of the murderers and psychopaths he caught previously were afterwards secretly being worked for Cecil instead of, you know, jailtime. He couldn't, he mustn't tollerated that these bad guys could be reformed, get a second chance. In his eyes they absolutely did NOT deserve that.

Flashfoward to present, after some VERY eventful years later, now Mark is breaking out a mass-murderer who obliterated a whole major city and killed thousands of people to give this guy a second chance, because he believes just punching bad guys and keeping them in jail while trying to maintain a status quo is not enough, is not a permanent solution... there has to be another way, a better, smarter way. To understand them, to get to them, to give them another chance, and make it work for a permanent solution towards a better world. This time Cecil was the one to not stand this, to attack.

And I can perfectly understand the 180 degree change in viewpoint and belief of our central character, even moreso actually approve of it. This is called Character Growth, this is the perfect example of Character Development. This is the very reason I'm enjoying Invincible so much, I'm engrossed in it. It is not JUST another superhero comicbook... it is a timeless coming of age story, a brilliant literary piece with character developments, character relationships as its main driving force. This is why I love it. A childish superhero comics? Please. Some superhero comics runs for fifty years and hundreds and hundreds of volumes but still without any growth or an ounce of character progression, and some can take only a few years and a handful of volumes to make the main character feel like coming across a lifetime since the very first issue, maturing before our eyes to become essentially a completely different person, yet still the same ever lovable character to root for. BRILLIANT STUFF. Can't say it enough.

P.S. Comparatively this volume is slower than most, basically a "catching up" one, nothing much happens overall. Probably should've given it a 4 stars, but because of that incredibly nuanced character growth and change in inner perspective of Mark, I just can't NOT give it anything less than 5 out of 5!

As threats and returning threats, continue across the Globe, and he thinks back to the Viltrumite War resolution, Mark is at turning point, where he asking himself if violence is the only solution. Me, I'm a thinking that Eve needs to share her news! A contamination! A Black Invincible! Oh, and there's just as big news at home for Mark, as his mother makes a huge decision! Post such a huge event, as the Viltrumite War, the creative manage to maintain the quality! 8 out of 12.

Invincible Vol. 15 Get Smart collects issues 79-84 by Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley.

Mark is having a moral dilemma about what it means to be a superhero and how he can best help people.

This was a very good arc that sees a fundamental shift on how Mark/Invincible operates as a superhero. I'm very curious to see where this goes! As always, Ryan's art is impeccable.

This was a catching up issue.

Mark is back on Earth , but since he was out of the planet for 10 months , there are things that he doesn't know about , and in turn we as a reader also don't know about , hence this issue by various battles and daily routine activities of Mark , tells us what we've been missing so far.

This issue on instances feels a little out of place or uneventful , but by the end of the issue we experience the changes Mark has gone through after his countless battles and coming to term with loss both personal and remote , he realizes the burden and failings of a superhero . There are basically a lot of changes in Mark know , he has grown and evolved into a mature superhero , knowledgeable and powerful .

Another side story involved Robot and Monster Girl , and I really wish to know what went through with those two , why is there a strain in their relationship now . That and the final cliff hanger , makes me as a reader very excited about future issues .

The perfect return to earth.

I love the way invincible deals with the villains here. It’s a far cry from what we have seen in volume 12-14 and you see that the past events really changed him.
Dinosaurus is top tier villain for me and i really like the other side villains here. The thing invincible does in the end is questionable but it’s exciting.
We have a lot of slice of life for invincible which is great after a war and the return of some side characters really spiked my interest.

All in all a great volume that shows you another way to deal with villains that I haven’t seen before.

Invincible is the best superhero comic book in the universe.

This volume is good but man did the art bug me in the first couple of issues. The shading was awful and I was afraid this was another "improvement" (which the art in this series has had a lot of (for the better)). Luckily the art got a lot better later, cs in the beginning it sucked me out of the story.
As for the story, it's going to quite the interesting places. It ties up the Powerplex and Universa sidestories and Dinosaurus is turning into a really intriguing "villain".
I also really enjoy the interactions between Robot... err.. Rex and Monster Girl. I'm looking forward to see what happened between them and in general on the Flaxan planet.

4.5/5.

Man, FUCK Kate. Disrespecting my girl Eve multiple times, on top of all the shit she’s done before… she’s actually the most self-centred, selfish character ever. Kirkman knows how to write hate-able characters so well, I swear.

Besides that, more Mark and Eve moments (big plus), Mark maturing in his thoughts about preventing crime (plus), and some more good moments I can’t be bothered to write out. Another banger volume.

Reading this volume is like reading a Twitter rant about how "Bruce Wayne would save so many more lives if he put his money towards charity and lobbying for better legislation instead of being Batman". Mark decides that maybe punching things isn't helping so he should use his brain to solve things, you know... 'get smart'. Sometimes, it works. He doesn't jump right to fighting but tries to talk villains down, figure out new solutions. That's neat. But it's also a weird turn for Mark as a character. It's like the character of Invincible is spending the entire series constantly trying to reinvent himself and it lets Kirkman give commentary on different parts of superhero comics while having Mark himself never be a stable character. This volume is him 'growing up' and starting to forgive all these morally black-and-white 'villains' as maybe being morally grey! So let's commit crimes and stuff with no oversight and take unilateral control over the justice system.

I've been talking about how much I like this series and its bold choice to shake up status quo, but after reading all the way to volume 22, I think events here are where the ball gets dropped. After a major event that happens here, the whole cultural climate should change. Remember 9/11 and what came out of that? Something happens in this volume that's 9/11 times 100. There should be public outcry against superheroes, but all the drama happens in Mark's mind. What a missed opportunity.

Sooo...remember last time I called Mark an idiot for not noticing Atom Eve's pregnancy? Well,

I loved this volume, and not just because I also loved

We get to see Mark really coming to grips with the crushing realization that the rest of his life will be an escalating series of super-powered punch outs, UNLESS he changes his approach and better defines his goals.

I still think he would have talked this through more effectively with his better half (not to mention business partner!) but I guess he figures she won't dare dump him since she put on a whole bunch of weight?

Stoked for Vol 16 now, though saddened that I'm well over half-way to completing the series now.

Really interesting things happening here in the wake of the Viltrumite War. Mark is trying to take a different approach and we get back to his relationship with Eve; actually, we see a lot of relationships in this one, getting back down to Earth as it were. Ottley remains awesome. At the end, a big decision is made, to the point where I want to read the next one sooner than later.

At times really good, of course, but the cracks are visible and Kirkman can't fool me, I know what you want, but some plot developments (Debbie and Nolan getting back together) aren't working. But it's fine. Mark can't fool me either btw, I know what you are 🇯🇲...

Just 10 more to go. I like how the series at this point is focusing on developing its characters, especially Mark. The last two volumes have been great progression for his character and it's good to see how far he's come as compared to earlier volumes.

This was a page turner at every level. Every issue I finished made me NEED to read more. I'm very curious in the direction that this story is going in. I'm very apprehensive but trying to be optimistic. I usually have some idea where a series is going but Kirkman is the master of subverting expectations. Cannot wait for the next volume

It is inevitable that things should grow and change after the events of the Viltrumite War. This collection of issues certainly had a lot of "I didn't see that coming!" moments. Mark and Eve are growing up, which means grown-up issues, from the "mundane" (Mark's reaction was good and supportive) to "only in a superhero book" (poor Las Vegas).

It's official -- Dinosaurus is one of my favorite characters, especially since his villainy is up for debate. If Mark has to explore shades of gray, it's only fair that his conflicts get more subtle. And Dinosaurus is a delightfully conflicted villain.

But it's not just all about Mark and Eve, these days. Robot and Monster Girl are back! Moments with them are interspersed through this collection in a fantastic build-up, hinting about what we missed between them. Definitely reason alone to keep reading.

But seriously, Mark: Stop going in the white room!

So this volume is the obligatory "slow one" in the series. Ill be honest, its a lot of setup and a nice change of pace from the previous volumes.

I think stories need to slow down like this in order to kind of build again and crescendo later down the line.

Ottley continues to impress in terms of art. Even the panels of non-action, where characters are just standing or reacting feel much more natural and at the same time look cool as hell.

Definitely read this volume if you are reading invincible. Sure it doesn't have a crazy amount of action (it has some!) but still, it fills in much of the backstory that allow us to connect to the characters and the overall world all together.

Also the ending is a bit of a surprise and I'm very much interested in what comes next.

This series continues to be entertaining and a pleasure to read.

Coming back down to earth (figuratively and literally) from the last arc this book was bound to be about taking a breath from the action, and it was. It felt somewhat like villain of the week but the threads started to really connect leading to something more. Mark is growing up before our eyes and this book shows that. I still love Mark and Eve as a couple. Their interactions always ring true and realistic. Ryan Ottley continues to be perfect on the book. His Dinosaurus was awesome and his "bigger Eve is great and not cliched. Overall, a good book with maybe too many threads.

Recent events have left Mark contemplating how he goes about helping people. Then he does something crazy. Will it work? I sure hope so! Oh also, Robot and Monster Girl are back and going through some troubles it seems. What happened while they were away?

Honestly, I feel like the following issues are going to bring up a lot of questions about long-term solutions as opposed to short-term. Looking forward to it.
