WHOSE GOD? WHOSE LAND? is a sequel to STRUGGLE FOR THE HOLY ARABS, JEWS AND THE CREATION OF ISRAEL. This volume and the three that will follow it will all explore the rises of the three great religious pillars of Judaism, Christianity and Islam and religious as well as political linkage to the Great Empires. Volume One, entitled JUDAISM, CHRISTIANITY, THE THREE PILLARS OF MONOTHEISM looks at these religions in their embryonic stages and examines how they developed.
Giving this book a 5-star rating isn't enough; I haven't been this affected-- intellectually and emotionally-- by anything I've read in a very long time, so I wish there were some way to reflect the significant difference between an "A" and an "A+
What interested me was the way that the author tied together the three great religions in what he called the monotheistic triangle and then proceeded to compare and contrast them on the world scene throughout history. That way interested history readers can see areas where they agreed and how conflicts emerged.
Revered names such as Jesus Christ, Muhammad and Moses are analyzed in the scope of the religious movements associated with them. We need to know about the leaders of the great religious movements and how their impacts differed according to time, place and circumstances.
The fact that the title involves not one but two question marks says a lot about the intention of author William Hare in writing this book. He does his best to construct a road map showing how, if followed, we could have a more peaceful world, and amen to that!
We could use this book along with its predecessor, also by William Hare, so that our youngest citizens of our planet know more about our roots extending back over thousands of years.
