Previously on Aventurine, book 3... Mari and Ky escape to the past from Logan and into the arms of Mari's father. What an ending right?! That whole entire story was Logan tricking Mari into reconnecting with him, and trapping her, essentially making her his prisoner. All the while his own son, Ky, is trying to help her find a way out and correct the changes Logan made repeatedly to the past. Will they be able to learn how to correct what Logan has done and stop him once and for all? It's the million dollar question!

Oh my bleeping Goddess! This book took a full 180 from the previous one, and landed a standing ovation! The back and forth, twists and turns with the past present and future, had me second guessing what the hell was going on the entire time! It finally dawned on me what this reminded me of, that movie with Ashton Kutcher, The Butterfly Effect! Every time Mari didn't end up staying with him, Logan would go back in the past and change something to try and force the outcome into his favor. Psycho much? Despite the fact that this evil little bastard knew Mari was in love with and destined to be with Seth, he still tried, like the little engine that could... it was sad, and pathetic.

I loved the fact that once Mari was back in the past she was reunited with her mother, and father (the one she never met and didn't even know who he was!), Seth, Ty, and Dee, yay! Together they were a force to be reckoned with. Ky was also with them, since once he chose Mari's side he couldn't be caught by Logan. Now that all the players are in position, the story adds a twist, with a dash of danger that I was not expecting. I love how it all came together in such an adrenaline rush, and ended just the right way. I'm sad to see the end, but happy about how it did. This series is a definite must read for all YA Fantasy book lovers!

Narrator Review
Hollie Jackson narrates the last installment to this epic fantasy! I loved Hollie from Carnelian, Book 1 of the Chalcedony Chronicles. She is a really talented narrator, and I hope to hear from her again very soon!

I honestly didn't care for this book. Chrysocolla is the fourth book in the Chalcedony Chronicles and, in my opinion, the worst in the series. This is a sad statement because this is the last book.

So, to begin, let me air out my issues with the book. First off, Mari has somehow lost all of her intelligence. I'm not sure if it was because the bracelet was sucking out her brain cells, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize Ky's parentage or even who her own father was. Though I did have it guessed well before this book, her own blatant ignorance and not putting two and two together seemed over done.

The second peeve about the book was how the group figured things out. All of the revelations are made from the Goddess or Ky, people who could have explained everything early on or at least make a better effort at influencing Mari to realize the truth of the matter. This added with the actions done to solve the problems made the book have a deus ex machina.

In case you don't know what that is, a deus ex machina is a device made in the arts that basically is a quick fix to the story at hand. A prime example is the play Medea. In that play, she killed her sons and is cornered by her husband. She has no escape, however she is supposed to be free at the end of the play. What happens? Her god saves her from her fate. Deus ex Machina means God Machine.

Like Medea, Mari has a very similar experience in Chrysocolla. A God saves her! One that we didn't know was a God! It was like a literary cheese that needed to be put there because Mari was written into a corner... or pool house. Instances like that are annoying and happen quite a bit in this book that I was left completely disappointed in the end.

I did like the epilogue. It didn't have Mari in it and it fit with the events that unfolded in the book. As for the book itself, it didn't fit with the rest of the series. I feel that it could have been better thought out and better executed for the audience. I have read so many time travel books that I was very disappointed in this one.

What an excellent way to finish this series.

McMichael managed to conclude this final chapter in the Chalcedony Chronicles very nicely, without managing to make it too predictable. That does not mean at times I did manage to guess what was going to happen, but as a whole I definitely was clueless as to how this story was going to play out.

One of my favourite things about this series, and specifically this book is that each of the main characters grow evidently through the 6 months that the book takes place in. Apart from Logan, each character becomes who they are meant to be and accept their fate.

Logan was my main concern with this series after book 2. I liked that his motives were very shady at the best of times, but I felt like his decline into what felt like insanity was very quick. I understand how McMichael wanted us to feel about Logan, but the way that he was written made it seem like we should just hate him and not get to see the more complex side to him as well as his reasoning.

The way that Chrysocolla was finished, wrapped up the main story but left open a few key points that I would love to see expanded upon in future novels. Basically I want a collection of books around this series.

I really liked this book series, and I like the fact that the author finished the story and did not leave it hanging.

This is the fourth and final book in the Time Travel Chalcedony Series. There are many questions answered in this book, and relationships fixed and new ones forged.

These book are a young adult book series, and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good time travel series. The Time Travel that occurs in these books it not your typical time travel, and keeps the reader wondering how the timeline can and will be fixed.

This was a great series! Lots of action, lots of twists and turns to make it very captivating.

It took me forever to finally reread all of the books and get to the last one because I didn't want to be finished and I didn't want the ending to be messed up...

Ultimately though, I'm disappointed with the ending. I feel like there were several things that were left open. I was so invested in Mari, Seth & Ty that I was bummed we didn't find out more about what happened with them. The ending we got was nice, but I'm not as invested in those characters and didn't like the vague referencing. It did not satisfy my "end-of-series warm fuzzy" requirement. I want to know what happened to the characters I spent 4 books rooting for. I want to hear it from their perspective, you know?

Kye has everyone safe in the past with Mari’s father, but things still aren’t right with the timeline. Logan still is a danger and they have to figure out what’s still wrong. Mari not alone in this fight but discovers several familial surprises which sends the odds in her favor.

Very sweet and interesting series. Almost everything fell nicely into place. I only wish there’re been more about how Ty turned out and maybe a final love or marriage scene with Mari and Seti.

Footnote: 1) Saying that you can ‘live with that’ when you plan to never have existed doesn’t really make sense.

Fave scenes: Mari’s mother combing her hair, Mari & Seth riding the chariot, gathering the stones and Sim’s father.

Brilliant read

I purchased the first book and was completely hooked by the story. I purchased the second the same day and read that. The next two were purchased. My eyes feel like they are on stalks but I just could not leave the story. I have travelled to Egypt many times in the past and these books brought those trips back to me. A MUST read🙃

A thrilling end to a wonderful series. Lots of twists and turns. McMichael tied up most of the ends so I don't expect to see another book in the series. I think you will need to read the first 3 books to understand the last.

Mind boggling

I think this series could he even better with another edit. There were too many grammar mistakes in all 4 books that distracted enough from this being a 5 star. I enjoyed the twist at the end.

***I received this book in exchange for an honest review, from the author.***

**slight spoiler alert**

Awesome way to end a series...it was super satisfying. My favorite character of this book was naturally, Kye. *sigh* My heart just squeezes thinking of him, it was a fantastic character that literally kept everyone together until the end.

Mari finally found her home that she was meant for. Being with her parents and Seth. The role of the goddess made it extremely interesting when she finally granted Mari with everything to save the world. It all flowed spectacularly and I was eager to flip the page and read more, McMichael, just always has a way of keeping you interested.

I was a little sad in regards to Dee :(...especially when I was finally starting to like his character but I knew something like that would have had to happen eventually in the story and I'm secretly (or not so secretly) glad it was him and not one of the other characters....good choice B. Kristin!

Also, I'd like to make mention, since it's the end of the series, that I had mad cover love for this WHOLE series, they were absolutely beautiful, so kudos for the cover artists, they were easily McMichael's best covers.

Lastly, I loved this series. I always thought this would be my least favorite series from B. Kristin. However, I've gotten to that point once I finished this book, that I've liked it as much as I love the other two series I've read from her. She just has this thing, that keeps making me come back for me.

5 fan stars :)

I really enjoyed the ending of this series. Thought it wrapped it up nicely and was much more interesting than book 3. I'm glad I stuck it out and finished this one. Mari is definitely more confident in this last book and takes charge of her fate, which was what I wanted more in book three. I really did enjoy this series though. Was a fun and exciting read. I won't go too much into detail since I figure if you've made it this far you're pretty much committed to the series. haha. But I think you'll enjoy it :)

Goodreads win. Will review once received.

Up front I will admit I have not read the first three books in this series. So I may have not gotten the full gist of this series. I will say this book was written well. It was a decent paced book that took part of a day to finish. After reading this book I wish i would have gotten my hands on the first three books as this was a pretty good read. I would recommend,.

The only disappointing thing is that the series has ended. I was caught reading late at night more than once, but it was worth it. I will miss the characters as they now seem like friends, and was happy to share the adventure.
