Natural healing for pets has emerged into the mainstream—veterinarians across the nation are now providing acupuncture, chiropractic, and other alternative methods. With Energy Healing for Animals, acclaimed animal communicator Joan Ranquet offers an essential guide for anyone seeking to enhance their pet’s health, longevity, and quality of life—and deepen their bond with a beloved companion. “Animals are so receptive to healing energy,” explains Joan, “that they’re often easier to work with than our fellow humans. In this engaging do-it-yourself pet therapy resource, this gifted healer offers a broad spectrum of guidance and tools to help our animal companions with behavior issues, pain relief, anxiety, and overall well-being. Here she presents practical instruction in pet Reiki, massage, feng shui, chakra systems, acupressure, Healing Touch, and much more—including breed-specific guidance for cats and dogs.
When I was thinking about my review for this book I felt like I needed to justify my use of alternative options for my animals. That says a lot about this ancient form of healing acceptance in our modern world, and about my fears of being judged. Well here it goes, I do believe, I believe there is a force in all beings that can affect others, positively and negatively. I just don’t know how to use it. Animals seem to have a stronger ability to recognize our tension, fears and emotions. We are tied to them they are tied to use through some force. The first part of the book was dry, at 13% I was bored and ready to give up, but I have a dog that I love that is suffering for the ravages of time and excessive medication. I needed to keep going. I did and when the author started talking about chakras I heard the wheel start to click in my head, I could see a connection I could believe in. Then came the stories, some simple, some more extreme of animals getting comfort from touch and massages and even growing healthier with these practices. The connection between human and animals told of in these stories gave me goosebumps, truly amazing. The rest of the book focuses on methods, centering your energies. There are exercises to work through that are easy to work with. I mentioned that I have a dog that is having issues. He is suffering from a heart murmur and seizures. I have been practicing several of these methods on him daily for the last three weeks. I also took him off all medications that were not life saving, the heart worm meds. His seizures have lessened in severity and number greatly, he has more perk in his step and is happier. Is it the lack of medication, the energy sharing, or the massages and exercise that changed his day to day living ? I don’t know maybe all the above. What I do know is that I feel good about practicing this on my animals, they seem to really enjoy it and we have all benefited from it. I would recommend it to every animal lover.

I have senior animals and a few are in failing health. I jumped at the chance to read anything that would help them feel better. I have practiced some of the massages on my rescue pet who is no longer physically in pain, but emotionally she’s scarred, and in the past few weeks she seems to be opening up to more affection, she is beginning to be a little more independent, and she’s beginning to relax into her new home. The other animals are enjoying the massages, be sure, but I haven’t noticed as much improvement as I have with the rescue.
I highly recommend to all pet lovers.
I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This dips in on a bunch (a bunch) of spiritual & holistic topics high level. The information is good but this acts more like a reference book to be used for ideas. There is some super good info on how to talk and think to animals. Advice like "have a dog trainer ready to go" and "set up a holistic vet consultation" gets frustrating for readers who don't have that option at the moment. She mentions these things a lot. I need to do the best I can to help this foster animal on my own for now!
UPDATED REVIEW: I am thinking about this book more and more and realizing it has a lot of super good information and my previous review (above) was unfair. I shouldn't get upset because the book didn't tell me exactly what to do in my situation! I would reccomend buying the book in physical or E-book format so that you can easily use it as a reference for years. Looking into getting a trainer for this foster puppy.
Good read, nice flow, very comprehensive. The author lost me a little when she quoted Caesar Malan and spoke about "Alpha" mares. She also didn't mention the very real dangers of using essential oils with cats. Overall though, I enjoyed the book and it was encouraging and straight-forward.
