The book "Marie" is like a fast action packed movie. It hooks the readers right from the beginning and till the very end. Even though I mostly read literary fiction, and very rarely action based books, I found "Marie" to be a very good read and an entertaining book. The author has been very successful in showing Marie's transformation into a ruthless killer and her occasional burst of soft emotions.

I would recommended the book for readers who look for action packed thrillers.

Wow! This book has so many twists, and is NOT predictable at all!! I highly recommend this book. This book will leave you wanting more. Marie evolves into a totally different character than I thought she would be. She had a unusual childhood, she grew up as a lab rat who was trained to be a killer. She is a strong female lead in this novel which I LOVED! I would love to read more books from Author Ana Elise!

This is like a sci-fi mash up of mystery, action, horror, and plain old awesome. I’m not a huge fan of science fiction but this thriller hooked me from the start…ok, it hooked me after chapter two but that’s not so bad.

The first chapter was a basic introduction. We meet a man named Tyler who’s been pushing for the military to follow his measures but of course they won’t listen. Its all cool, explanations, and more character introductions, background stories come into play…but chapter two is where things really get interesting. We have this scary town that’s one of those small, backwoods places that just happens to house a military facility.

Everything seems so dark. The townspeople, the purpose of the facility. Even Dr. Stanley has some odd quirks.

I thought I wouldn’t really like reading about a program that experiments on babies but things got very interesting very quickly. We have nine boys in this program and just one girl, who is of course, Marie. Why they are being experimented on is not yet revealed. The mystery was kept to an all high level in this book but not to a point where it annoyed me, it was just enough to keep me turning the pages wondering what’s going on and why?

I think Meyer took a big chance in choosing infants as the main mystery in her book for the beginning. I enjoyed everything about it, but some might shake their heads. Especially when I read the line, “They had no idea what was in store for them or if they would even survive.” When you’re talking about soldiers who volunteered for something, ok. When you’re talking about adults who decided to join an experiment, alright. But babies!????

Fret not.

The book is dark but it’s not immoral. Meyer doesn’t hack up those babies she just injects them…
If that’s a turn off, let me give you this line in reference to the baby experiments; “They all grew at a healthy rate and none showed signs of illness ever.” So don’t worry.
Marie grows up to be heathy and smart and makes for a great female lead. She stands out amongst the rest of the test subjects, not just because she’s a girl but because she is different. When most of the other characters got into their bickering, Marie was somewhat distant. She seemed to be more of thinker than a mover and always sat back to observe the situation. She showed her strength through strategy which isn’t always demonstrated in lead characters. That’s a trait typical in a lead detective of a crime novel but not in a sci-fi thriller, so kudos to the author for bringing some creativity to the mix.

I liked and I disliked Marie. My feelings toward her were really highlighted after a character’s death. She had a conversation with Tyler when he confessed his struggle in coping with killing another man. She kind of just brushed it off, in the midst of his yelling and cursing she simply sums everything up by saying ‘It doesn’t concern you’. That moment was significant to me in that it really highlighted how inhuman Marie really was. We know her history as an experiment, we know about the disease and whatnot, but we don’t really know Marie. We see her from Dr. Stanley’s perspective, we see her from Tyler’s perspective but in situations like that one, we truly see Marie for who she is. And I struggle in deciding whether I like her or not.

Marie’s personality was something that was clearly layered. She brings out a lot in the reader as you try to find her humanity. She is human but her behavior is so different, and her demeanor is so unique you begin to see her as the experiment that she is. And that makes you wonder, how do you look at someone and say, ‘they’re not human’…?

I don’t think that was the point of Meyer’s book, but there were definitely some underlying messages in her writing.

I would say this is a thriller that will make for a great book club read. I enjoyed it very much and I look forward to the next books in the series. Would definitely recommend to readers looking for psychological thrillers.

Katniss Everdeen meets Lara Croft to create a new heroine--Marie--in this suspenseful book. The plot takes dramatic twists and turns, throwing unsuspecting characters into Marie's path of intrigue & danger. Marie is a thriller that you won't want to put down until you've finished it. Even then, you'll be clamoring for the next book in the series.

Marie by Ana Elise Meyer will catapult the reader through this action thriller with twists and turns. It will surprise and shock even in the final pages!! The heroine, Marie, is a strong but tortured woman, trying to resolve the traumatic events that have been thrust upon her. Taken as an infant and raised by a secret, government organization determined to create the perfect warrior, Marie is forced to conform to the rigors and hazards of this elite existence. That is, until she discovers the one person willing to defy her controllers and escape with her. But, there is no freedom for the ‘perfect’ warrior, not without a price. This is the first thriller novel on my bookshelf, and I’m happy, I gave it a chance. For a fast-paced story with a formidable heroine, a diverse cast of characters and a terrific set-up for the sequel, Marie will not disappoint. I highly recommend it.

When scientists try to search for a solution to disease and physical decay they start doing experiments on male babies, that is until Dr. Carl Stanley finds a crying female baby behind a dumpster and decides to include her in the program, what they get then is Marie. She excels at the program and becomes "the picture of physical perfection; possessing the ability to heal at a rapid rate" Out of the 10 babies injected over time, she stands out, both in her attitude and behavior. She doesn't just act when told, she thinks more and seems to have more of a conscience than the 9 boys. As they grow up, she becomes friends with a particular child but he is taken from the program as he shows no signs of special abilities. She then finds herself drawn to Michael, the leader of the group. When something happens to destroy Marie's life, she shows the people who "made" her, exactly what she can do!

Plot wise, initially, I wasn't sure whether I'd enjoy reading this as the subject was kids being part of an experiment, but thankfully they were never mistreated and they were looked after, they were just injected everyday with a serum. Also we jump from them being babies to being adults quick enough that it doesn't really register. This book is so incredibly fast paced and intense, that I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I listened to it in a day and didn't want it to end. The idea of a super soldier, one capable of anything, and the consequences of what happens when they go "rogue" made for an amazing read!

Marie was kick ass! She started out as a conscientious person but when her life is destroyed, she shows exactly what she can do, and boy that girl was bad! My heart broke for her and what she became! You know why she did the things she did, but it still made you feel for her.

Anyway, this was an action packed, intense and addicting read. I didn't just read it, I devoured it and look forward to more!! Well written, developed and entertaining, this is a must read.

Lori Faiella did a really good job with the narrator. She brought Marie to life and really made the story pop.

*I received a free copy of this. This in no way affected or influenced my thought.*

This book is about a girl/woman named Marie who is found abandoned by a scientist and put into an experimental facility where they are trying to create a kind of super-human that can heal much faster than a normal human. She is found as a baby, and the book follows certain events as she grows with her nine other co-subjects, all of which are male. As you can already see, her life is not a normal one and is full of trials, pain, and loss.

One of the best things about this book is the unusual amount of twists and turns. I found myself surprised at Marie's antics, and at first I thought this was due to a lack of character development, but even if it is, essentially it fits the story. She is a mystery throughout, an interesting mix of compassion and indifference that makes her unique.

The only complaint I have about the book, and it was not enough to give it less stars, is simply that some events seemed to happen too fast, but it does add to the rawness of the story. The ending seemed rather abrupt, but again, this is not your typical book, it has an interesting style to it, and overall, it fits. Would definitely recommend for anyone who likes action/fast paced books with a strong female lead.

Wow. This book starts rolling straight from the beginning and one is trapped, can't put it down, heart beat increasing until the end, and then- we have to wait for part 2..It's truly a strong female protagonist, intense action scenes, characters been pushed to the human limits. The accuracy of the action is remarkable, one could easily direct a movie based on it. The story is exciting, good twists. There is an cathartic element in it, I think. This book is not for the faint of heart,it has brutal parts, and as me, who finds at times that Star Trek brings tears in my eyes, found it at times a bit overwhelming. If you are fine with that, this book is a treat.

"Marie" gripped me right away. It was refreshing to have a book display the strength of a female lead. It was interesting to read the development of Marie and the other characters in this designed fantasy world. The writing of Ana Meyer is great - everything flowed really well, and it was all I could do to pull myself away from the book to get back to the real-world.
I can't wait to read the next in the Teumessian Trilogy. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a fast-moving young adult novel!

This book is like the movie Lucy, but done right. I couldn't stop turning the pages, and action isn't even my genre!

I liked not only the twists, but the characters. I really cared about Marie, even though she was cold and brutal most of the time. I'm still puzzled about this fact. I know only one thing: it has to do with Meyer's skills as a writer.

So I recommend this to both people who like action and who don't. You'll become hooked!

The main character is sympathetic. It's very fast paced and full of action. However, I thought the story was a little weak and didn't like the ending much.

The narrator was fine, but I had some problems distinguishing between different male characters who sounded similar. I think she could have done a little more to differentiate between them.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the way certain things turned Marie from caring to a cold blooded killer and I think that showing both sides of her made her seem more realistic and helped me to sympathise with her at times.
I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

As the book starts, we are introduced to a young military scientist who wants to research and isolate the gene that promotes healing. He hopes by doing so, he can eradicate diseases and extend people's lifespans. He is then taken back in time 30 years via the story of Dr. Carl Stanley. A scientist who lost his daughter at the age of 10 to cancer, and had now created a serum that promoted self healing, even in fatal cases.

Although an idealist, Dr. Stanley is working with unsavory men to get the funding for his research. Men that could care less about the healing aspects, except as it pertains to making the perfect weapon. The perfect weapon ends up being Marie, an infant Dr. Stanley found abandoned in a dumpster on his way to the research facility. Along with the nine other baby boys, she is injected daily with the serum and trained to be deadly. When she is pushed too far and loses everything she cares for, the perfect weapon they wanted, will also be the thing they should fear the most.

This was an absolutely gripping thriller from beginning to end. While some found the beginning a bit slow, I actually found it necessary to the plot. It's one of those slow burns that ignites midway through, filled with suspense and action, as well as many unsuspecting twists and turns. While many of my reviews point out twists and turns, to be perfectly honest, not many of them are actually unsuspected. I'll admit, I tend to over analyze a bit too much when reading. This one definitely caught me off guard with several unforeseen things which kept me engrossed throughout the book's entirety. A cataclysmic climax and an ending that leads to book two will have you wanting to read this whole series.

Washington D.C. Major John Tyler (U.S. Army) was at his desk at the Pentagon & was informed General Ulysses Gold wanted to see him at his home in Virginia.
It had been 16 yrs. since his last visit.
Captain Stevens greeted Major John Tyler at the mansion.
General Ulysses Gold wrapped both his arms around Major John “Ty” (PhD, MS, Biology, Chemistry, MS Genetics).

Major Ty presented his theory of Genetic selection to General Gold & wanted him to fund his next research project.
Flashback (30 yrs.) Inyo County, CA. Dr. Carl Stanley & Dr. Parker Jones (Carl’s. assistant) had hired Bruce (aka Brawn), & Kenneth (aka Brawn, retired Master Sergeant U.S. Army Rangers) to oversee 9 boys: Michael (Caucasian), Thomas “Tommy” (Caucasian), Chris (Caucasian), Scott (A/A), Samuel “Sam” (A/A), Ethan (Chinese), Austin (Caucasian), David (N/A), Justin (Caucasian), & 1 girl named Marie (Caucasian) DNA altering research project.
Ivan Vasilevich (boss), Henry, Frederick had worked together & founded the Soldat Industries weapons' manufacturer Co. They also were involved in the research project.
Dr. Stanley & Dr. Jones administered 2 @ day injections to the 10 child specimans.
Dr. Stanley began to adore Marie & thought of her as his own daughter.
Chris, Scott, & Tommy were not proving to be very good tests results.
Survival of the fittest they would be eliminated.
Now all 16 yrs. old; Michael, Justin, Austin, Samuel, Ethan, David, & Marie were turning into a elite team.

Michael began to keep a very close eye out for Marie.
Now 21 diifernet training techniques were up to 2 @ day.
Each of the 7 teens were tagged with a S logo GPS tattoo chip.
On their 1st. mission David was killed.
Big news Ivan ordered Marie’s baby terminated & they will do further experiments on her.
Dr. Stanley, Dr. Jones (scientist) & Frederick were now looking for Micheal & Marie, it seems they had ran off.

10 new baby girls had not survived the next round of testing.
Could there be something worng with the formula?
Frederick had just shot/killed Dr. Stanley.
The remaining teens were tortured to get information on the whereabouts of Micheal & Marie.
Ely, NV. What would happen to Micheal, Marie & James (4 months, Micheal/Marie’s son)?
Kenneth, Frederick, & Samuel were sent to handle the ongoing problem.

What is General Ulysses Gold’s mission for Major John Tyler?

Who now will survive & who will perish?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Action/Adventure book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Action/Adventure movie, animated cartoon, or a mini TV series. To be Continued. It was quite as exciting as I hoped but I really liked it so I will rate it at 4/5 stars.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book to be perfectly honest. I liked the idea behind the story, it reminded me at the start of the old TV series The Pretender. So, the story was fine, but lacking something and I had problems with the characters. Now, some of the problems I had were somewhat explained by the end of the book, but I could have wished that the points were covered earlier. To me, the scientists were really dumb. They had 9 men and one woman; only the woman produced any results and only after she became pregnant. My first thought was - why did they not suggest maybe the drugs they were injecting their subjects were looking like they would work on the second generation genes then the test subject?

The group of 10 test subjects seem to have been trained as soldiers to work together - or that was the idea - they never seemed to have gelled as as a team, and definitely did not stick up for one another very much. As well, Marie is being portrayed as a typical female who rather than being tough and hard shell, warrior, breaks down when one of the others die ....

Another problem I had with Marie was when she was attacked after she left the program. She had a child that by description she was devoted to, wouldn't let out of her sight, very protective. She gets told that the men killed her son, so when she escapes she doesn't even go and check on her son to see if the men were telling the truth, even after all her dealings with the group who had kept her a prisoner all her life and trained her?

The other character I had a problem with was Tyler - he was really young and naive to be a Major in the Army, and you would have thought Marie would have been more suspicious of him - although that was explained later.

The narrator's voice was a little stilted for my liking. I don't know whether this is her natural voice or the voice she thought Marie should have; also the author didn't use a lot of contractions in her wording that I found a little irritating.

However, I did find the plot of the story interesting if the author could have developed it a little more (I don't know how many other books the author has), and interesting enough that I am looking forward to listening to the second book of the series to find out what happens next, and how the author has improved her writing.

This is a book I just couldn’t put down. I was glued to the page. It’s hard to find a book that keeps you hooked throughout the story.
The story opens with a man named Tyler and another man named General Gold. They were both talking about a big project Tyler was working on, and I could tell that Gold needed the aid of Tyler in solving a major issue facing the region. I was surprised when I saw the author’s deep knowledge of the medical area of study. She must have done her research! After a long talk, General Gold takes Tyler back to how it started by telling him the story.
It started with the tale of Stanley, who had been working on a vaccination/injection which if bred into a child, would give him regenerative abilities. It didn’t fully work in the beginning though, but what did work, was that they were slowly turning into unbeatable soldiers. This was what Stanley’s team wanted. Stanley and Ivan were the only two people who never found it amusing to cause chaos to the world through biologically strength-enhanced children. Marie was also very against it. She began to cry when the team wanted to ‘throw out’ or kill the children who weren’t up to the duty of being strong soldiers. She tried to stop them, but they did so anyways.
The plot continues in this direction to events that are both interesting and unexpected. Marie, being the main character, had caught my interest as a very dynamic and vibrant character. Her adventures guide the plot of the story towards the goals she aimed for. Besides Marie, I found Stanley and Tyler both interesting characters.
There are many characters in the book, and they were all interesting and unique in their own way. I believe it’s hard for a writer to keep track of all the little details of each character and scene, but Ana did it very well!
Overall, the plot was brilliant. Diabolically brilliant. It reminded me of the great books I’ve read before, which contained a lot action, suspense, and awesome hooks. This is a book to be shared, read and remembered. The usage of words, description and dialogue were eloquently written, and they made me feel as though I was amongst the characters sharing their sorrows and joys.

Well! What can I say about ‘Marie’? It is possibly one of the most enjoyable books I have had the pleasure in reading in a long time. It ticked all the right boxes for me: A strong female protagonist, a gripping story line and a few WTF moments.

The story follows Marie, a baby found by a dumpster by a doctor, who works at a weapons facility. Marie, along with other children, all boys, are from a young age, injected with a formula and are trained to become super soldiers. Everything is going well, until Marie and the leader of the group, Michael escape to make a life for themselves beyond the trapping of the company that held them, Soldat, helped by Michael’s best friend Justin. Marie and Michael have a son together, successfully keeping under the radar until he betrays them. Revenge is her main priority as she watches her loved ones die in front of her. She goes after the company operatives that had made her into what she had become. She was the key to everything.

On her journey’s, she hooks up with John Tyler, an army major who has been sent to find her many years after her escape. A friendship blossoms, and he helps her in her quest to rid herself of the people who had wronged her, but it all ends in heartbreak.

This story is very well crafted and thought out. I found it easy to turn the pages and just read, to the extent that I got nothing else done. I couldn’t put it down. The story has some great twists towards the end that hit you like a ton of bricks...I love that in a story.

I highly recommend this read to anyone who likes a good sci-fi thriller. It will blow you away.

I honestly don't know how this book has over a 3 star rating, it is not good.

It would benefit greatly from proofreading and edits, particularly to break up the walls of text that make it almost unreadable in the first half. It was truly painful to get through.
The story has potential for sure but I got whiplash from all the constant murdering and plot twists. Also the author literally misspells Stanley as "Stanly" so often that I began wondering if they were two separate people.

***Spoilers below***

Marie is the only named female character of the entire book, and honestly I couldn't even tell if there were any others at all. She is pretty cool as an adult, but it's not enough to make up for the multi-decade upbringing of these science experiment children where she is continually shown specifically as the motherly and emotional one. Also the only black kid is the one who begins to threaten violence against the other children from a young age, which feels like a microaggression at the very least, if not blatantly racist.

Marie is strong, capable, and smart. She doesn’t deserve to be fridged for her son’s plot trauma so this can be a continuing series. She deserves to heal from her trauma and have a life with him. She was literally the only good thing about this book, and honestly the fact that she is one of very few if not the ONLY female character and “self-ends” over men’s actions feels like the antithesis of female empowerment. Killing main characters at the end is such a pet peeve of mine, and this one feels especially unnecessary and just for shock value.
Like the title says, don't waste your time on this book.

What I liked: Though it starts a little slow, the story is well plotted. Once it gets going the action sequences are excellent and the pace quickens. And the climatic scenes are wonderful. This book is Jason Borne mixed with Kill Bill and a bit of science fiction. Lots of fun.

The title character (and science experiment) Marie goes on a murdering rampage after the death of her husband and son, but she was so sympathetic and kind to children that readers cheer for her.

Here is what I didn't like: Marie is a great first book, but it has a few “first book” issues. As I said above it took awhile to get going. The book is well written and nothing pulled me out of the story, but the prose seems a little blah. I wished for a little more description in places. A pet peeve of mine, when authors have expositional dialogue. This is dialogue that no one would really say, but tells the audiences something. (It's fine in television and films, but books can just use exposition.) There is a scene when the experiments are teenagers that is specifically to introduce their traits, but it was slow and plodding specifically because it was almost all in dialogue.

Other than that, this was a fun book that I enjoyed reading. If you like books about science gone awry mixed with military, espionage, and revenge stories, then check out Marie.

I couldn’t put this book down! Super fast racy read, female superhero, but the naughty kind. No friendliness to her, but she has a soul. Ana details all the brutalities of Maria’s past, from being raised as a lab rat being groomed to be a killer, losing all who she cared for, everything taken from her. Life cannot get any worse, but she is one tough cookie.

Ana’s work is truly unique, and if this is marketed properly, I can see it becoming a huge best seller developing as a movie. It’s like the Fantastic 4, but a true adult version, mixed with X-Men. All about mutants (but on the more realistic side), humans who possess a genetic trait, an x-gene, that allows the mutant to develop superhero powers and abilities…in this case they are simply able to heal physically faster than anyone, basically non-destructible. Since they were born, the chosen few were brought up as lab rats, knowing that this seemed normal to any kid, they knew no better. Zero cheesiness, intelligent, and very realistic.

The protagonist is a hot strong female lead whose good with knives, but who also has a motherly instinct. All around very entertaining read, I absolutely loved everything about this novel and really hope it does very well. Fantastic story.

The author has gone through and fixed most of her mistakes so I have changed to five stars.

First off I wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading a book with such a strong female lead. I love that she didn’t put up with others BS and wasn’t afraid to take matters into her own hands. Ana did a great job of capturing the intense action, but not making it cheesy. She also added many unexpected twists and turns making it impossible to predict the end. I am so glad I couldn’t figure out where the book was going.
However, I am giving it four out of five. There were a couple of little inconsistencies and when I say little I mean it wouldn’t really alter the storyline to change it. There are some sentences that didn’t quite make sense. I also noticed that when describing things sometimes she repeated herself multiple times. I think it was to make a point, but frequently the same words were used. Anyway, it was all small stuff that you can easily ignore and still enjoy this action packed story. Overall, a great job and read. I am for sure going to add the next book to my ‘want to read’ list.

Let me first say that I loved this story. It was great from start to finish. I couldn't wait to keep reading it once I started it. I had no idea what I was in for at the beginning. It sounded like it was just about to be another army story, but it was anything but. I enjoyed reading the interaction between Tyler and Marie and how they grew on each other over time.

The children always seemed to add a little more emotion to the story, they were a nice touch without being over done. I didn't like the ending that much, it felt a bit rushed and too easy. I felt more effort could have gone into preserving what was already there, but I understand. I wonder what will happen with James now, will he develop over time or will the effects of what he experienced in the end change him into something else?

Great work, I can't wait to see what comes next. I would give this story 4STARS and recommend it to anyone who loves thrillers, action, a little bit of romance, revenge stories, and stories with not so happy endings.

Thanks for a great read!

Marie by Ana Elise Meyer is an action-packed novel about a girl who is rescued by a scientist Stanley and is enrolled along with 9 boys into a expensive and fully-funded research and training programme, aimed at producing super-humans with the ability to heal at a faster rate and ultimately achieve immortality. The end-goal of the "management" if the programme yields the expected result, is to sell the subjects as mercenaries or human weapons to the highest bidder.

Everything seems to be going well until a completely unplanned event takes place. What follows is a series of twists, suspense and a whole lot of killing. Reading this novel made me feel like I was watching one of those high-octane action movies played by a strong and attractive female character.

Marie is thrilling with a good story line and some very unexpected revelations at the end. I am glad that this is not the end of the story and look forward to reading book 2 of this series.

"Marie" was a pretty intense thrill ride. Readers are introduced to an abandoned baby girl who is experimented on and trained to be a super-soldier prototype. The training and the lifestyle that come with it, however, end up scarring the subjects. Marie's attempt to get away to a normal life is thwarted, and all hell breaks loose as the bloodbath begins.

I think this book might make a pretty intense screenplay. It was like reading the script for an action movie, and the story and action seem to be what we see in a lot of "Hannah" type movies these days. Marie follows well in that niche, and has a shocking ending that puts all its little twists to shame. The ending, while shocking, is a success in that the reader is left wondering what's going to happen next.
