3.5 A short but fairly comprehensive overview of tea. I learned some new information here, and sources were listed, which I think I would want to look into more if I wanted to take the health claims seriously.

The beginning of the book is a good, basic overview of the history of tea. I found the recipe section less interesting.

"Tea Time" is a book of tea miscellany translated from Spanish (Todos los Tés del Mundo). The author brings together a smattering of tea-related subject matter in a somewhat disjointed manner from health benefits to an abbreviated tea history, from an abridged look at chanoyu to a collection of quotes about tea, from recipes to brewing methods.

Unfortunately, most of the book centers around presenting questionable information or opinions as facts. This includes presentation health benefits information, brewing and storage options, interchanging the words oxidization and fermentation, and classifying puer as "red tea" to name a few.

The recipes in this book cover tea-tails, savory foods, desserts and herbal tisane blends. Many of the recipes include spartan directions for preparation, leaving out length of time for crucial steps and/or end state descriptions. As a plus, many include measures in weight and not volume.

As a point of amusement, this book includes several pages on the art of Tasseomancy (tea leaf reading) and a detailed interpretation guide without a single photograph.

Overall, there are other short books on tea history, recipes, and brewing that I would recommend over this one.

Tea Time is suitable for the reader curious about tea and potential benefits, but not for the more devoted tea or health enthusiast. The surface of several topics are touched on, including the history of tea, the different types of teas, traditions, and tea terminology. The book provides an easy read with fun facts, intriguing recipes, and delightful tales and quotes. Possible health benefits of drinking tea and precautions are listed; there is no critical analysis or formal referencing of information sources though.

This book has excellent information on the history of tea, it's therapeutic and medicinal effects, recipes and more! The pictures brought a whole new light to the tea that I drink every day because I never actually knew what tea bushes/trees looked like. Just reading this book make me crave tea hardcore! This is definitely a book that will stay on my coffee/tea table for all guests to enjoy.

Some great history

A relatively quick read, with decent recipes, but not offering much variety in terms of flavors. Not sure what I was looking for from the book, but also know I didn’t find it. Enjoyed reading the history most.

This book is a great place to start. You'll need to do further research, but I found that this book was a good foundation to build from. You learn a bit about the history, get a basic understanding of the different teas, and amazing recipes to try.

Enjoyed!

The book interesting and full of information. I've always wondered what the differences were between the "colors" of tea and this book explained them all. It is packed full of all things tea.

Nice little overview of tea. Doesn't get detailed about any one aspect, but covers a broad range of tea related topics. Skipped the chapter on reading tea leaves. Otherwise a pretty good introduction to the world of tea.

Maybe it's a translation problem, but this just did not ever get interesting to me. I felt like I was reading a trade journal brochure. The facts weren't all that fascinating and the secrets weren't secret. The recipes didn't look very delicious. So, basically, the entire promise of the title didn't pan out for me.
