The Essential Sam Jameson and Peter Kittredge Boxed Set. Save over half off the cover price on three runaway international hits: The Incident Season 1, The Incident Season 2, and Balls Deep.

THE INCIDENT: Where do you run when even the good guys want you dead?

Special Agent Sam Jameson is having a bad week. People are trying to kill her.

That would be business as usual in the counterespionage world, except that it’s the good guys who have her in the crosshairs.

Why are the DC Metro police trying to kidnap her? Do her bosses at Homeland want her in a body bag, too?

And why does everyone she talks to seem to end up in the morgue?

Will a ruthless mercenary, a hapless American traitor, and a dead man’s cryptic clue hold the key to Sam’s survival? As the noose tightens around her neck, Sam must uncover a brutal and deadly conspiracy before she becomes its next victim.

BALLS DEEP: Peter Kittredge is middle-aged, unassuming, bisexual, and frequently — perpetually, one might say — bombed out of his mind.
He also found a dead man in his own bed, and he managed to accidentally stab a CIA agent. Twenty-seven times.
Oops.
How will the rest of the week unfold?

Interview with author Lars Emmerich
Q - So, what makes Sam Jameson and Peter Kittredge special?

A - It's a mix of things, really. When I set out to write these books, I wanted to create something that mirrored exactly the kind of books I like to read. My top picks are usually espionage and private detective novels, any of the thousands of thrillers and mysteries best sellers, and, of course, books featuring classic pulp heroes. I also like heroes with problems and villains who are frighteningly human, maybe a little too much like us.

The Sam Jameson and Peter Kittredge books are a mix of these genres. The series focuses on the mystery and thriller / espionage genre overall, with a couple of themes borrowed from financial thrillers thrown in for good measure, a healthy dose of the stuff that makes political thrillers great, and a serial killer novel or two to keep things interesting. Why such a mixing of themes? Because life isn't monolithic and book genres are arbitrary. There's murder in spy novels and there's espionage in political conspiracy thrillers.

Overall, the series are designed to keep you turning the pages. I've done my best to make sure there's never a dull moment, and I think the characters' chutzpah and attitude makes for good entertainment. But I'm probably a little biased.

And in Peter's case, his sexuality is obviously a strong part of his character, as is his distinctive personality.

Q - So, why should readers give these books a try?

A - Because the Sam Jameson and Peter Kittredge books are fast, fun thrill-rides that never let up!

Ultimately, readers who enjoy a blazing pace, characters with depth and distinctive voices, and a plot that twists and turns all the way to the end will enjoy this series.

You know that feeling when a story gives you goosebumps? I love that feeling.

And the one where you read something that puts a lump in your throat and smoke in your eyes? I love that one too.

And the feeling that you know what's going to happen next, only to find out to your absolute delight that you couldn't have been more wrong? I love that feeling too.

I love reading stories that move me and challenge my assumptions and teach me something. I love the way a great author lures me in and takes me along for a fantastic ride.

I also love to write stories. It's how I spend my days and a good share of my nights, too. I'm on a quest to write the perfect story full of perfect sentences. I don't know if I'm anywhere close, but I enjoy the gentle struggle.

My overall rating is really 3.5. I really liked The Incident Season 1 & 2 and would give them a 4 star rating but Balls Deep was a 3 star rating. Overall, I do like Lars Emmerich's writing style. Each chapter addresses what a specific character is experiencing. The characters are all well developed and multi-faceted.

Sam Jameson is a Special Agent for Homeland Security. An Agent is killed and she is called to the murder scene but when leaving the scene a police officer tries to tase her then a bomb drops in her front yard. Luckily she has a shelter called the 'panic room' that is indestructible. She and her live-in boyfriend, Col. Brock James-the only person in the world Sam trusts, barely make it into the room. Her bosses at Homeland have taken her off the dead agent's case and appear to be hanging her out to dry. What follows is a wild ride where Sam cannot trust anyone-- not her bosses -- not Metro police -- maybe not even Brock.

Peter Kittredge is selling economic secrets to an Oil company currently wanting contracts with the Venzuelan government for oil rights. He is caught by the CIA and his life becomes a living hell. First torture, then he signs the rest of his life away to the CIA. Peter is theirs' - forever. I feel for Peter. Yes, he was committing espionage but his life is on camera from this time forward because he didn't want them to kill him and he didn't want to go to jail. They have him over a barrel. He is watched 24/7, no privacy, he's at their beck and call and he doesn't get paid. Next the Venzuelan VSS (special services) kidnaps him and wants him to be a double agent of sorts. Peter tries to play both sides and life is impossible.

Sam and Peter's paths eventually cross and he doesn't realize she is the only "good guy" that he has met since the chaos began.

Regarding Balls Deep, I gave it 3 stars because I felt that it didn't have as good a story as the first 2. Peter Kittredge ran away to Germany to try and escape the CIA. Really? Escape the CIA? He doesn't seem as strong a character in this book and wasn't as appealing as a character. He became a lush which might be somewhat understandable because of the previous hell the CIA put him through but the Part 1 of this book appeared to concentrate on his sex life more than the actual story. Part 2 did get more into the pharmaceutical espionage as well as an epidemic that was killing children. Of course. the CIA is back in the picture too.

All in all it was an OK read and those that like espionage and spy thrillers will probably like this box set.

I received this box set free in ebook format in exchange for a review. For more information about Lars Emmerich check here: http://www.amazon.com/Lars-Emmerich/e...

Fabulous

I thoroughly enjoyed these 8 books! I am an avid reader and could not put these down. I love the characters, Sam, Brock, Peter and Dan. I am eager to see what happens next! There’s so much in these books and I love how Lars really shows the characters humanity. When reading books such as these we tend to get lost in the action of it all. The author shows us the characters beneath their outward actions and we see how these horrific things they are called upon to do cost each of them a bit of their souls and the joy that life can hold. The memories will be with them forever. I am looking forward to the next series!

I thought the whole series was great... a little violence (which is to be expected in espionage) and a little humor (which is just enough to compliment that violence without being overly so.) I can't wait for the next book!!!!!

An interesting premise with some snappy dialog but excessively violent. Also the main character does things that are not humanly possible so the story becomes unbelievable.

Nice read

It took me a long time to get through this book, because I've been busy, but it was a very satisfying thriller that stimulated introspection.
