Boyfriend Glasses

Rate this book
The first time Greta saw Blake, she knew he was the one. Knew it like fire knows tinder.

She hadn't thought she’d be at a frat party her first week in college, but her roommate, Amber, convinced her to go. Greta couldn't believe how easy it was to get in. It seemed like they threw those parties just so girls like her would come. But she was pretty now, and everything was different. No one knew anything about her ugly duckling past or all the darkness before. It was a whole new world, a brand new start. Then she saw Blake and knew he was her destiny.

But Blake saw Amber first. And he got...confused. Blake was her soul mate. She could tell. She knew all about soul mates.

Too bad about her last one.

"Some people say there's NO such thing as love at first sight. They're wrong".
Boyfriend Glasses (Greta Bell, #1) by Livia Harper

Oh my. Oh myohmyohmyohmy.

So..this book..attention GR friends and fellow readers: major announcement here! There exists in book world, a female more batshit crazy then Amy from Gone Girl. And Julia from "Perfect Girlfriend". That someone is..drum roll please..Greta!

Greta is..just..wow. And wow again.

Oh how I would LOVE to see Greta couple up with Joe from the book "You". Attention authors: please make it happen! What a couple to contend with THAT would be! I would go to the wedding for sure! Well..maybe not.

OK..that out of the way. What a twisted, demented, sick book this is! I mean really! Very twisted and just..I mean..this is just to much really.

Haha! Did I mention I LOVE IT?!!

Boyfriend glasses reminds me soooo much of the "Privilege" series by Kate Brian. I read the whole series some years ago in a week. I think that is what I will be doing with this series as I have two more in the feast..er..group..to get through. It is gonna be a long long reading week.

So as you may have guessed, this book is about a stalker. And not just any stalker. Greta puts all the others to shame except Alex from Fatal Attraction whose insanity will NEVER be replicated.

But this is also a campus novel and that comes chock full of sorority sisters, frat brothers and mean mean girls. And sex. And drinking. Oh the thrill of it all!

Greta sees "her" Blake from across a crowded room and falls in love on the spot. In pure Greta love fashion.

Only thing is..Blake wants her roommate Amber.

Greta isn't to happy about that. It's like Johnny all over again.

Who is Johnny you ask?

Well you just have to read to find out!

In all seriousness... this book is the type one is not able to put down. I felt a curious feeling of revulsion, pity and pure and raw discomfort being in Greta's head. She is so unloved and lonely that she is poignant and is very frightening.

And I adored Amber.

SPOILERS (Just a few)

But what if the stalkee is as fucked up as the stalker? That is what kind of makes the book stand out a little. It surprised me with the route it took.

So I am hoping to finish the three book series by the end of the weekend. And yes, you must read book two to understand book one. And I presume you must read book three to understand book two.

I really got into this. It's fun, it's twisty (and twisted) and quite dark but really sad too. And so much like both the private and the privilege series as I mentioned and which I loved. I did not know there were three books to this series when I started .

So put on your boyfriend glasses and dig in. This is a good one!

This is an American campus novel and the central totally cuckoo character is Greta. Much of the storyline centres around the Frat house system which is literally all Greek to me. I have no idea of a SigUp from a Kappa or a Phi Zita but that cluelessness on my part did not detract from my enjoyment. Thank you to Bren for sending me the recommendation. The kindle version is currently free on Amazon U.K.

Greta is a stalker, first of Johnny in Colorado where she is from then of Blake at college in Pennsylvania. She is completely obsessive, lives in fantasy land and pursues her ‘loves’ in all kinds of ways including letters. Although she is completely bonkers, I feel sorry for her as her home lacks any warmth or love. No wonder she turns her unwanted attention elsewhere. There is one occasion when I confess to a little laugh at the lengths she goes to and the places she secretes herself in her dogged pursuit of the objects of her affection.

I can’t say I especially like any of the characters but I guess I’m not meant to. I like the twists and turns of the book and it’s dark at times. The ending is really good. Overall a quick but good read.

WHEW. What a freakin' trip that was. Boyfriend Glasses is a captivating thriller following the wonderful and deadly Greta Bell. I have to say that Greta most certainly scared the crap out of me, if not creeped me out for 99% of the book, and to be honest, coming from me, that's saying a lot. The author does an absolutely amazing job making you feel uncomfortable reading from Greta's perspective, throwing us into her screwed up mind with so little as a warning about what we're getting ourselves into. However, Ms. Harper also knows how to make you want something good to happen to her so that she may get her screwed up version of a happy ending, regardless of her twisted mind.

The characters were great and the back story was well done. I especially loved... (more via website)

Woo-whee! This author knows how to write a heebie-jeebie-creepy-as-hell character. This book was like SVU meets Fatal Attraction meets Swimfan. I was bothered on so many levels, and the writer did an awesome job of capturing the selfishness and imagined invincibility of youth in its foolishness.

I accidentally read the short story from Blake's POV first, but that put a different slant on it for me when I was reading the book.

My only qualms were editing errors, like "back peddle" instead of "backpedal." All in all, deliciously disturbing and irreverent. I definitely want to read more of this author's work.

THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. If you are a fan of Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl," you will LOVE "Boyfriend Glasses." Imagine if Amy Elliot Dunne was crazier--no, really. Greta Bell is not a normal college student. She is convinced that she's met her true love, Blake. Too bad he's dating her roommate. If you think you know what happens next, trust me: you're wrong. Greta goes to crazy lengths to get her guy, but for someone like her, the definition of "happily ever after" is VERY skewed. I read the whole thing in a single night and could not put it down. I was consistently stunned by the things Greta was capable of, and every time I thought I had it all figured out, Harper turned the story on its head. When it was over, I actually freaked out. WHERE IS BOOK TWO? WHERE????? I MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

My, my, my! This book had me hooked! If you are up for a roller coaster ride full of crazy, pick up the book and hold on! Greta, the main character, is likeable enough, but under the surface lies a super crazy persona that is sure to hook you. Greta is in love, both in high school and in college. The only problem is her “boyfriends” already have girlfriends. She still thinks that they communicate with her and let her know that they really do love her and only her. The lengths Greta goes to are extreme. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book and did not want to put it down! If you are a fan of thrilling fiction, a sprinkle of romance, and a whole lot of “what the f*** just happened?”, then you will LOVE this book!

I really enjoyed reading Boyfriend Glasses. Livia Harper has a way of bringing her characters to life and one really feels what Greta is going through.
I mean, though Greta is ‘crazy’ (spoiler alert), we can all relate to her in one way or another; and the way Harper brings across Greta allows the reader to sympathise with her (in a way). Boyfriend Glasses was very engaging and interesting (though it did scare me a little) and I would definitely recommend reading it (especially if you’ve ever had your heart broken!).
Really though, Boyfriend Glasses is like a realisation of all the dreams you’ve ever had of taking revenge on anyone who’s ever hurt you. My overall opinion of the book? It’s definitely worth reading.

3,5.
Interesante.

Spoiler alert within...and I only recommend the book if you have no problem with the spoiler below.

I picked up "Boyfriend Glasses" on a whim. Every few books I need a young adult fix and this seemed like the perfect book. What a tale of first person delusional obsession. It offered a brief look into sorority and fraternity life, and the story was certainly compelling. The main character, Greta Bell, must have a perpetual lucky horseshoe around her neck because there never seemed to be any consequences for her.

Spoiler: This isn't your typical spoiler. It's more about my reading experience. I wanted to give this book 3.5 stars, but given the choice between 3 and 4 stars, I chose 4. The reason why? The book is a page-turner but leaves you hanging. The author holds the ending ransom and the only way to find out is to subscribe to the author's mailing list. After investing time reading this book, I felt duped. There must be better ways to engage the reader.

Great Twisted Story!

Poor Greta, what awful parents she had to make her so messed up! Poor everyone that she feels she loves. Although, she isn't the only sociopath in this story. Jumping into book 2 now!

I don't even know where to begin with this novel. I just found it for free on Amazon kindle and I wasn't expecting much from it but then I found myself cringing, creeped out, and laughing throughout the entire thing. Greta's obsession with Blake and the flashbacks about her previous obsession with a boy named Johnny are just nuts. She has completely deluded herself into believing she has relationships with these guys and it'd be one thing to read about her disturbingness from the point of view from her stalking victims but to read her thoughts and get the entire story from her makes everything at least 7.3 times more uncomfortable.

The story is pretty straightforward, Greta arrives at college and falls in love with Blake at first sight, then is jealous of her roommate, Amber, for dating him, and she spends the novel trying to get Blake to be with her instead, through any means necessary. But what kept me going was the fact that Greta's life was a trainwreck that I couldn't look away from. I don't want to give away too much but through multiple acts of arson, having sex with random truck drivers, sleeping naked under someone's bed, and a scene straight outta Compton "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," Greta gets into some pretty bizarre situations and they are what keep the story flowing even when it doesn't seem like much is happening.

I like the way the novel jumps between Greta's high school story and her college story and the way the high school story goes is not how you see it going, and just when you think the college story may end the same way, something happens that throws everything off and sets up for what are sure to be strange sequels. I don't have any complaints about Boyfriend Glasses. It's fun, original, unpredictable, and one of the best books I've read in a long time. I highly recommend giving this series a try.

It was love at first sight for college freshman Greta Bell when she saw her soul mate Blake Abbott at a frat party. Too bad Blake is dating her roommate.

Blake is putting Greta through a test, just like her high school sweetheart did, to find out if her love is true and the lengths she goes to to get what she wants is scary.

More than once Greta made me uncomfortable. What went through that poor girl's head - wow. This book is filled with lots of twists and turns. The story flowed well, was easy to read and made you feel like you were there following Greta around (ha ha)

- Reviewing Greta Bell Series, Part 1-3

Livia Harper just stole my heart. This series is everything I love about psychological thrillers. It doesn't let go, no mercy and really a good read.
Twisted and dark...brilliant!

#1: Boyfriend Glasses

The first time Greta saw Blake, she knew he was the one. Knew it like fire knows tinder.
She hadn't thought she'd be at a frat party her first week in college, but her roommate, Amber, convinced her to go. Greta couldn't believe how easy it was to get in. Too bad about her last one...

Greta Bell is a very complex character. She wants to be loved, she wants what everyone wants and right now she wants Blake Abbott...
She doesn't take no for an answer.
Be careful, don't cross her...revenge is like an aphrodisiac to her.

#2: Party Dress

Greta feels like a princess. All the dark stuff that happened a few weeks ago is buried. She has only eyes for her new prince and when the darkness surface again, she and Blake have to work together to bury that darkness forever. But something is not right. She knows Blake loves her, he tells her so. But what he says and what he does, is two different things.

3#: Diamond Ring

This one is the darkest in the Greta Bell Series.
From the first page, it's all down hill. Everything happens so fast. Blake proposed, she finally gets to meet her future in-laws but whatever started out like the perfect fairy tale, escalates in a bad bad way. She is confused. Everywhere she turns, she takes the gloom and the murk with her. She realises there's only one thing to do...whatever the consequences.

This is a brilliant series and I would read more of Livia Harper's work in the future.
What a ride. What a read...
Book hangover for sure!

Sick, sick, sick, it’s mental and I fricking loved it. This was by far the craziest novel that I’ve read in... I don’t know... forever?

I definitely did not expect something like this! From the book’s description you can already imagine that something is twisted and wrong, but in no way you can fathom the level of insanity that you will encounter between the pages.

At some point, I was honestly wondering if there are people who are so insane in reality. Then I decided that I don’t actually want to find out. I prefer living in my small glass bubble where everything is fine and everyone is normal and continue imagining that only in books things can go so, so wrong. But afterwards, I noticed some other Goodreads reviews that are mentioning the “Clerambault syndrome” and of course I had to google that and omg, it’s real and damn scary and we should all be afraid to live in this world.

I don’t want to spoil anything from the book, I don’t want to dissect the character’s motives and actions. But I can promise you that you’ll be hooked from the first to the last page and that if you take any breaks from reading, your mind will not be able to concentrate on anything else. You’ll just wish to get back to the story as soon as you can and find out what in the world will happen next. It’s absolutely addictive. I bought the next two books from the series as soon as I reached the last page of Boyfriend Glasses and I swear I felt like my fingers were not moving fast enough on the screen to complete the purchase, that’s how much the adrenaline was pumping through my veins.

If you’re still not convinced to give this book a chance, please be informed that for the moment, it’s still free on Amazon. And even if your reading list is never ending long, be sure that you will finish it in a day or two, so you have no excuse not to let yourself dive into all the madness that this book offers. So do yourself a favor and get it as soon as you can. Be ready for a ride that will defy your logical chain of thoughts and turn the table upside down. You’ll thank me later.

So, this book is something else. I'll admit that I like the whole trope of stalker women and find it very interesting. However, this made me, who enjoys creepy, scary, and pathetic stories of women obsessing over someone, cringe away from the book several times. The grounded actions of the protagonist make me wince and regret enjoying this type of trope. I sometimes felt sorry for most of the main characters and their love interests. Even though most people in the story aren't good people, it doesn't make the unhinged actions that take place okay. But the one aspect of the protagonist that I enjoyed immensely, despite the constant mistakes and unrestrained mental issues, is the craftiness of someone willing to cross boundaries to get what they want.

Good Book; I hope I never meet these people in real life.

SoOo…what should I say about this book? Oh, I know! This b*tch is crazy! This book is definitely for all of the girls who ever had a guy tell them that they were "crazy" (he lied, one, and two, he's an idiot). In all seriousness, I was a bit freaked out because I didn't know what I was getting into, but I was super curious, too! BG was awkwardly and pleasantly a very good read, despite the intense subject matter. The best way to describe Boyfriend Glasses? A classic 90s movie from the Lifetime Movie Network--in book form.

P.S. You should definitely give a copy to an old flame who broke your heart! I already did. :)

This is a hard one to rate accurately, because the writing? Awful. The plot? Netflix’s You but make it a college girl’s POV. Did I know what was going to happen? Yes! But… Did I eat it up in just 3 sittings? Also yes! Something about the simplistic writing made me read this SO fast and it was juuuust thrillingly thriller enough to keep me hooked. Make no mistake, it was bad. But bad like junk food: awful for your health, so very addicting, and yet you love to consume it.

I wouldn’t recommend it - but will I probably read the rest of the series? Maybe I’m Greta Bell level crazy, but yes. Bonus points for being free on Stuff Your Kindle Day!

You know…. I almost rated this book lower because I was just SO weirded out by the main character the whole time that I almost didn’t read it because waiting to see what would happen and if she’d get caught made me sooo uncomfortable (can you tell this is one of my first psycho thrillers???). Then I realized that’s EXACTLY WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. I’m so glad I finished it because that ending was not expected!!! Great job author!

Unhinged! That is the first word that comes to mind when describing Greta. Girl is absolutely off her rocker. This was a super quick read...I think I knocked it out in a few hours. There was a whole lot of WTF??? moments and just a rollercoaster of crazy. The end did catch me a bit off guard and had me jumping on Amazon to download the next book in the series. Not necessarily a literary masterpiece or anything, but it was a fun read!

Me encanto
Y Blake

OMG! I can’t even… the FMC…

I almost DNF’ed this book as the FMC is so beyond twisted that it became disturbing to continue reading, but I stuck it out. The author did a wonderful job with the story & plot twists. Scary to think that people like the FMC could exist in the real world.
