It turns out, werewolves are aroused by everything—and allergic to polyester. Hives are the least of Leslie Kingmaker’s concerns when she enters her first trial and is transformed overnight into a wolf and the mate of pack leader Ben. Successful, brawny, overbearing and sexy, he’s as intense as he is moody and has never heard of personal space. Complete submission isn’t a sex game to him; it’s a requirement to be by his side. Heart, body, mind. They’re all his—no matter where that leaves Leslie at the end of the week.
But something about the muscular alpha with a dark streak keeps her coming back, and it’s not just her duty as a Kingmaker charged with choosing the next leader of the supernatural community. Ben is dangerous and smart, a predator in every sense with the capacity for both mercy and violence—and an absolute animal in bed. Is he leadership material? Husband material? The danger her father’s final letter warns her about?
The deeper Leslie dives into his life, the more complicated the alpha becomes, and the harder it is for her to remember she’s only a werewolf for a week.
*** The Kingmaker code: Choose wisely—or else.
One to love, one to lead, one to fear. To understand them, she must become one of them. Wolf – Fae – Vampire

„A vampire, werewolf and fae walked into a bar with my father. The supernatural clan leaders walked out. My father did not.”
Now she is the Kingmaker, and she must go through trials to choose between those three, which of them is a potential mate, which poses a threat and must be exiled (read kill), and which is the best leader to Community.
"...four weeks to decide..."
The first week -- a mate to Werewolf!!!
„...a sexy, brawny alpha with whiskey-colored eyes glowing with cunning“
BEN (Benjamin)
„Muscular, tall and rugged, he's the epitome of the raw male beauty of cavemen proportions.“
They have lots of rough sex, some talking, running in the wolf form, some bad stuff some more sex and then the week come to end.
I love Ben through the whole week. He is wild, passionate, loyal, intense, and dominant.
Leslie, not so much!
The second week -- a mate to Fae!!!
„...a man with sparkling green eyes and dirty blond hair that falls over one eye.“
TRISTAN
„Tall, lean and handsome,...his air is cool where Ben's was hot, and he's relaxed, far more laid back than I ever saw the wolf leader.
They have some very long (nobody complaining) passionate sex scenes and very little talking.
Tristan is playful, sensual, patient, in control, calm and empathy.
I still didn't really love Lesli but she is improving.
The third week -- a mate to Vampire!!!
“…a man with dark hair and sky blue eyes. Virtually immortal, he's the oldest of the three but looks the youngest”
MYCA
“…tall, wide shoulders, thick biceps, athletic, with an air of confidence and awareness. He doesn’t have Ben's edge or Tristan's aloofness“
Well, let me tell you there is sex and there is sex with vampire!!! Pleasure and pain, passion, blood, letting loose every fantasy and desire.
I like Myca very much. He is laid back and lethal, calm and easygoing, but also dangerous, addictive and ancient.
I also like Lesli in this one. Actually, I feel sorry for her. It seems that everybody knows almost everything about her but nobody wants to tell her anything.
She is frustrated and I am too.
We did find out what she is and what that shadow is.
The fourth week is for her. To think and to decide…Or so she thinks?!
There are some Really Unexpected Things, some very Crazy, some very Sad and some Happy stuff and then we come to THE END and I only can say…
and...
I didn’t know how to rate this book because sometimes I felt little confusing and annoying and sometimes frustrating, but because of the four great men, and all sort of emotion I went through reading it, complete series deserve...
I must warn you, some parts deserve less than 3 stars, but I go through them and I'm not sorry... (I am sorry for my possible mistakes in spelling and grammar)

This was my jam. Wow. Wow. Wow. Do you ever have a series that just does it for you? Where every note is hit? When you feel that the author wrote the books for you alone? I was not expecting this. What did I just read? How am I supposed to read anything else now? There is a sharp uniqueness that this series has that other paranormal romances are lacking. Oh and one more thing.... Don’t @ me if this doesn’t work for you. This series is a paranormal romance, VERY, VERY steamy, clever, mysterious, and intense. There is a lot of sex described in detail between one girl and three different supernaturals during their respective weeks so if that isn't your thing, then I recommend you pass on this series.
At the time of my writing this review for Trial by Moon, I have already finished the entire series and it’s been only two days.
"A vampire, werewolf and fae walked into a bar with my father. The supernatural clan leaders walked out. My father did not."
Leslie’s father was the Kingmaker, whose sole duty was to select the next leader of their city. Now it’s up to Leslie to determine which creature is worthy and capable of maintaining peace with humans and within the supernatural society by completing different trials. She must become each of them (wolf, fae, vampire) in order to understand them and learn more about their clans-- so she spends one week with each clan leader as their temporary mate. By the end of the three weeks, she is given one week before making her one ultimate decision-- which one will she love/ mate to continue the Kingmaker line, which one will she choose to lead, and which one will she exile. The secrets collected and passed down through twenty generations of Kingmaker’s are hers to wield to keep the supernaturals in line.
Trial by Moon -- The first week (and book one) is Benjamin’s, the Werewolf, who is a breathtaking storm and crushes any walls with his intensity. There is massive heat between Ben and Leslie that is wild, passionate, and steamy. Keep that in mind if you decide to begin the series. There is a hellluva lot of steaminess!!
There is a lot of paranormal romances out there, and it all seems to blend together. That is not the case with this series. There is depth and mystery to the plot that is unlike anything I have ever read before. We have all heard of the wolf, fae, vampire, but the concept of the Kingmaker was extremely fascinating. Deception, rules, and mysteries were around every corner. The steamy scenes are some of the best I’ve ever read as were the connections between the characters. The direction the plot takes is very creative, fresh, and clever as hell & key information is revealed at key points throughout each book-- and my god, it all came together seamlessly. I was NOT expecting the twists and turns. FEELS ON FEELS ON FEELS, my friends.
1 star I didn't enjoy the writing. The MMC was pushy & the FMC’s super power was whining, as an added bonus she possessed an entirely over-inflated sense of importance. Great premise poor execution & unlikable characters.
Not what I expected...A bit wordy and hard to read at times written in first person. The story is refreshingly different but I'm still on the fence of whether I like it or not. It is interesting enough but in some of the best scenes, the action is glossed over. Thus, I was unable to feel a connection with the characters of Ben or Leslie. The characters are not well written and could use more definition. The idea of mating for a week with each immortal vying for a chance to become Communal Leader is a stretch. Alpha wolves, Fae and Vampires are nothing new in the paranormal realm but the idea of the Kingmakers is totally new to me. The Kingmakers are highly unlikeable from what little is known and I can't stop wondering why they are even a factor with the immortals. Of course I assume this is Ford's plan to keep you reading the remaining short novellas that follow. I don't like Leslie or find her remotely interesting. Instead I think she is whiny and weak. The real question is, is she worthy of the three immortals in her trials. On my Were Scale of Hotness, 3 stars.
Wow! I loved this book! There's nothing better than PNR done right and this was probably one of the best I've ever read. The back story was interesting and laid out little by little instead of being dumped on the reader all at once. Usually books that are light on dialogue get tiring, but I loved everything this author had to say. Narrated entirely from Leslie's point of view, I felt every single emotion that she did; her frustration, her confusion, her vulnerability, her lust. And Ben? I'm in love. Their relationship, despite being only a week long, didn't feel forced. It was bittersweet and came across as so genuine. Somehow the author had me completely believing in the world she spun and everyone in it. Except the reader doesn't know exactly what to believe because the mystery of Leslie's role as the Kingmaker is being doled out piece by piece and I have to know happens!
I love this series! One of my GR friends had it as a favorite, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Wow. It's so different than anything I've read. I can't wait to try more books from this author.
I found out about this series randomly on Facebook when an advertisement popped up on my news feed. I'm one of those people who automatically get drawn into books of the paranormal variety. When I clicked the link and read over the synopsis, I was relieved to see it would be a new take on the paranormals I've grown to love.
Leslie is the Kingmaker, a title passed down to her from her father and her father's father and so on... Basically, she's solely in charge of the paranormal world's destiny.
She's forced, like the Kingmaker's before her, to go to trial. She has to be mated to three different paranormals. Hers are a werewolf, a fae, and a vampire. She is to spend a week with each of them and ultimately decide who will be the leader of ALL the clans, who will be her mate, and who will be exiled. But, Leslie has more answers she's searching for... She wants to know who murdered her father. She's sure one of the three have done it, but who?
This first book is Leslie and Ben's (the werewolf) mating. He's alpha, yet he has his sweet moments. They are aggressively passionate and totally into one another, making the fact the mating only lasting a week, bittersweet.
I thoroughly enjoyed the world painted by Lizzy. It was different than other werewolf books I've read (and I've read a lot). I always enjoy the fresh new ideas that still seem fitting for a wolf.
The relationship and bond between Leslie and Ben was both frustrating and enthralling for the both of them.
I hated to see the week end, but I'm also looking forward to what happens with the Fae and what answers are revealed to Leslie about being the Kingmaker.
“Sometimes, even I get comfortable. I don’t look for evil in the people around me all day, every day, and if someone’s served me well for say, a hundred years or more, I start to trust them. But you – a fucking Kingmaker with an attitude – you I wasn’t about to let catch me off guard with anything, no matter how much I love fucking you.”
This was one of the first books I have read by Lizzy where I really didn't like the main character. In this book I personally found her to be whiney and very up and down emotionally, which became very frustrating. She hopped around from one emotion to the next and back again all on the one page, she was quick to judge and very naive. Normally I connect with Lizzy's characters straight away and cant wait to see where there story goes, but this book left me a bit unmotivated to keep reading. I must admit, the story did improve by the end of the book where she finally started to learn the lessons she was meant to as part of her trial, but then she read the letter at the end and jumped straight back into her assumption making ways. For some reason I was struggling to connect with the characters grief of losing her father, can't explain why, it just didnt make me feel sympathetic. The second book in the series was a vast improvement on the first, so I am definitely sticking in there to see how it turns out as I really want to know, it is a hard story to predict where it's going, so I will definitely commend Lizzy on that, she has kept my interest.
Something really bugged me at the beginning that I couldn't get past. The three supernatural beings were listing off what they knew about the female lead, and one thing didn't sit right with me.
The dialog stated that she went to Harvard, but because she went skydiving instead of going to her graduation, she didn't get her degree. I'm not sure if all colleges are the same, but I am pretty sure you get your diploma when you complete your courses. Whether or not you go to the graduation ceremony has no bearing on whether or not you get your degree. They mail it to you if you opt out of attending. In fact, I'm pretty sure they welcome those who opt out due to the limited seats avail. For family and friends.
But hell, what do I know. A B.A. from one college and I highly doubt that every other college practices the same thing.
I am normally a huge fan of Lizzy Fords writing, loved the Omega beginnings short stories and Omega as well. This series is somewhat different (guess the nude upper body of a male on the front page should have tipped me off), and while I liked the plot and protagonist enough to move on to the next installment, I found that the large number of huge dangling sexual organs depicted distracted from the storyline (not necessarily in a positive way....)
Awesome book! I seriously enjoyed this read! The story is very interesting and had me completely devoured and needing to know what is going to happen with the Trials! I love Ben wholeheartedly, and even Leslie who I sometimes thought could be a bit bi-polar. Lol Great book and I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU READ IT! Can't wait to find out more about the Trials and what it means for the characters!
I'm surprised at this given the extremely high rating this one has. The characters were flat, no dimension or emotion to feel. I could tell when they were supposed to make me feel something, but I got nothing.
I really wish Goodreads would allow us to do half stars. This would be 3.5 stars. I was looking for a paranormal romance to read and I came across this series. And bonus...it was free.
So here is the gist the story. Since the death of Leslie Kingmaker's father, she now has the responsibility to pick between three candidates for different roles within the supernatural community. She has to pick one to lead. She has to pick one to be her mate and continue the Kingmaker line. And she has to pick one that is exiled, meaning killed and wiped off the Earth.
Before her father died he chose three candidates for these trials. For a week with each candidate, magic will make her the mate of the candidate. She will learn them inside and out so she can make an educated decision about who will go where.
The first candidate is of the Werewolves and they have some massive heat between them.
It is interesting to see her try to learn as much as she can about each group and interview members of each group. All while trying to find out who murdered her father and learn her Kingmaker power.
There are four books and each one is her time with each community. The fourth is her final decision.
These were a unique take on paranormal romance books. I enjoyed them so much I finished all four in a weekend.
So this book was more of a 3 star to 3.5 star read for me over all. But because the story line interested me so much and the fact that I had to dive right into book 2, I am rounding it up to a 4 star read. Plus it's Lizzy Ford and I usually enjoy her books. Leslie has to choose the next leader for the paranormal community and also her mate. Because of this she has to go through three trials, spending one week each with the nominations for the next leader and choosing which will be her mate, the third she will have to exile. Her first is Ben, alpha werewolf. By the end I kinda didn't like him but I also kind of loved him. And now I just have to know who will be chosen for what roles and so on we go to a week with the Fae.
The plot is interesting with fun characters. I am not sure that I like how the male narrator did Ben's voice, it made him kind of creepy. I am interested to see how things go with Tristan.
To be honest I wasn't sure about this series, but the first book was free, so nothing to lose. A series based on a young girl tasked with picking the future leader of all magical creatures (clans) by being mated for one week to the leader of 3 different clans didn't seem like a solid enough premise to hold my attention. Add in the fact that she will be a true mate to each man meaning that she will sleep with 3 men in 3 weeks. Way to make a decision that impacts the entire magical community. But like I said, free book.
I was pleasantly surprised. Leslie is the female lead and the book is told from her POV. Unfortunately, she is completely overwhelmed, brilliant but flighty, an adrenaline junkie, and into escaping either through drugs, alcohol or sex. She's also completely ignorant of the Kingmaker history and curse. She learns that her final decision will choose one man as the community leader, one as her mate, and one for exile. She's in over her head with no one to guide her, surrounded by books she can't read, and magical creatures who hate her just for being a Kingmaker.
Her first temp-mate is Ben, leader of the werewolves and a force of nature. His presence is completely overwhelming and Leslie falls completely for the man putting her life in danger and shaking her very foundation of beliefs.
This was a great story of intrigue, misconception, lies, deceit, loyalty. So much is touched upon and left to be picked up in the next books. Is this really about finding the next leader and mate? Who is the trial for; the leaders or Leslie? Why is it surrounded with such mystery and why does everyone have to conceal, lie, and extract promises to and from Leslie? This first book of the series does a great job leaving you wanting more answers. I came away feeling as lost as Leslie. Ben seems to be a really good guy, but we know that he's not all good. He's dangerous, volatile, he lies, and he has more than one reason to hate Leslie. Leslie left behind a mess with the werewolves and is no closer to knowing the right decision as a Kingmaker. On to the fae!
Trial by Moon is a great supernatural read for paranormal lovers. Leslie Kingmaker is desperately trying to find out who killed her father. However, she must go through her trials as a “Kingmaker” to find her mate, find the one who will lead the community and decided which members she will exile. She must spend time with the werewolf Benjamin (Ben), the fae Tristan and vampire Myca to see who will be placed where. In this novella Leslie spends time with Benjamin and it is easy to fall for him. Ben is sweet, caring and as devastatingly sexy. However, while she uncovers some secrets within the pack she still has no answers to the one question she has. The more time she spends with Ben the more questions she has. Lies will be told, secrets will come out, people will be betrayed and deceit is in full swing in this short and steamy novella which makes it one exciting read. I can’t wait to see what’s next. This is only the beginning and I definitely want more. If you love supernatural reads I suggest you give this novella a try.
Trial by moon. Is one of the best series of 2015 if you love vampire werewolf and fae ,, I love hot shifter stories but Lizzy has all 3 in one series Leslie has to become a werewolf vampire and a fae. To pick a super natural leader for balance but is more complicated then that she has to be there mate for a week physically bonding her soul to them She don't know who to trust and which one has kill her father And the book of secret keeps changing the trials rules Leslie don't know what to believe. And and what Will happen to everyone and her at the end This is a must read I am in love with this series
The tough, experience h is not immediately likeable as she grieves for her father. She's his successor as a kingmaker, and has to participate in a series of trials. She's clever, frustrated by her own ignorance and lack or preparation. The H is strong, seems to care for her but she sees that his pack is his first priority. She has to learn how to navigate in this new world, and the H was only her first trial. There 2 others to come. It's interesting and I want to read the next book.
another great story from lizzy. leslie has an important job to do but doesn't really know the rules and has to spend a week with each candidate for leader of the supernaturals as their mate. Ben is first. an alpha werewolf. he loves his wolves and is desperate to find out why they keep dying.will leslie have the answers he's looking for?
Trial by Moon Trial Series, Book 1 By: Lizzy Ford Narrated by: Lillian Yves, Vincent Lee Grayson
I enjoyed this book immensely; the story is original and well written with interesting storylines that grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire time. Lizzy Ford is a gifted author with an imaginative mind. She created a fascinating story and world filled with equality fascinating supernatural characters. She lays down the foundation of the series in this first book and it is a very intriguing start. The character growth and world building is very well done and easy to follow. Leslie was always destine to be a Kingmaker, her father should have prepared her better for the role before his demise. She wants to find out who is responsible for his death, still grieving she is set to fill her fate and find which paranormal being will be the next King. he must spend a week with each candidate and first up is Ben, a wolf shifter. In order to get as close to him as possible she becomes a wolf shifter herself and not an ordinary one either but his mate. Ben is the alpha of his pack and also runs a corporation, he is a complex man with secrets which makes it even harder for her to learn who he really is. I loved how everything played out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns, action, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions and some hot romance. Lizzy Ford, thank you for this great story and start to what is going to be an amazing series, I hope the rest of the books come on audio soon.
🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Lillian Yves and Vincent Lee Grayson are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They do a great job bringing these characters to life, humanizing them, giving each their own distinct voice, making it easy to follow and tell who is who. Their portrayal of the characters is spot on and they have a complete understanding of each role they play, sounding believable and just as I pictured they would sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the fabulous listen🎧
You know....each time I pick up a book without reading what it's exactly about 9/10 I end up enjoying it....
This Trial series is no exception - and honestly it took me by surprise.
It was not what I was expecting. I guess I was expecting just a normal kinda love story with a wolf/fae/vamp and then choose which you want to mate but it's soooooo much more than that.
So many twists and turns. You can't take anything - or anyONE- for granted or at their word.
With just a Book of Secrets that guides each generation of Kingmaker before her, Leslie must go thru 3 trials - living as one week as each of the supernatural and in the fourth week she has to make the choice to mate and marry one, one to be the entire community's leader..and the other? Well that one will be exiled- along with the rest of the clan.
But it's not as simple as it seems. The book leads her to secret reads in her recently passed fathers library, that helps her learn of each species past. She was raised to not trust the supernatural. At all.
But is the book as reliable as she is supposed to think? Aren't the men supposed to be guiding her on this Her first week is with Ben, the alpha werewolf. She has to live as his mate for a week.
No problem she thinks.....
Surprisingly fun and great read with so many twists that keep what could be another tired werewolf story into something fresh, unique, refreshing fun...and very hot to read!!
Can't wait for the rest....!!

Brilliant start to the Trial series by Lizzy Ford. Lesley’s dad has been murdered and she is determined to find out who has killed him and she has 3 suspects in mind. Her dad was a kingmaker and now that passes onto her. This means she will need to decide who will be next to rule over the supernatural community and the same 3 suspects are also the 3 prime candidates she needs to choose between. It opens with her meeting with the 3 of them and her finding out there is more to the kingmaker role than just a simple decision to chose the best leader. There are rules and she must go through trials. The first book is her first trial, a week with the Wolfs and temporarily mated to their Alpha Ben and wow it’s sizzling! If this is the first I can’t wait to see where this goes. She has a huge decision to make and needs to find out who is the killer. On top she is doubting her fathers tales of the supernaturals all being evil. Loads of twists and turns and secrets and lies and I can’t wait for the next trial. I was gifted the audiobook version in return for a non biased review and this gets top marks. Great duel narration brining to life a great story. 5/5 stars
Such a neat concept. I loved that Leslie wasn't annoying like most of Ford's female leads. I did notice, though, that something tragic always plagues our heroine from the very first chapter. It's kind of depressing. I read books to forget about all of the sadness in the world and to be transported some amazing. To be constantly immersed in someone else's grief is not my idea of a fun time. If I wanted to feel sad, I'd just turn on the news or scroll through social media. With that being said, I did find the kingmaker trial interesting. As usual, the book did drag in places, but I'm becoming a pro in skimming. I hate that I got sucked in with Ben and I'm unsure if he is really a bad guy. I will give Ford props, b/c I usually have books figured out before I even make it halfway through. This one kept me guessing, but also struggled to make sense in some places. I'll read the next one to see if the series gets better before making my final decision about this author.
