This is the second book of the Dragon Treasure series. Cerys and Talorc try to make their way in a hostile world and find a place where they can live in peace without anyone trying to kill them and where Talorc can find his essential rocks. This is all against a realistic backdrop of 5th century history with a couple of Arthurian references thrown in.
Cerys develops her strength and survival skills. She misses what little real family she had and is constantly fascinated by humans, even after having to fight wild Picts for her life. She makes some hard decisions, especially after she discovers what actually happened to her lost father.
The writing is very good and to my joy, the story has a proper ending, although some things are left open for the next book. This is one of the rare series that keeps my interest and I will be following the last couple of books.
