Dollycas’s Thoughts

I was so pleased to see this story. I enjoyed my first three visits too Casper very much.

In this installment Emma and Jake find themselves assisting the police when the lead detective is sidelined. He may be down but he is not out, he just needs them to do the legwork. Then they meet and collectively strategize how to catch the killer.

This was another really fast read for me. This one is about 100 pages longer than the previous books in the series so the author was able to give many more details about the characters and setting so I found myself even more invested. The pace is fast and the writing is solid.

The main plot has many moving parts and involves many people, some of the city’s leading families. That means the investigation steps on a lot of toes and can be very dangerous.

The secondary plot has Jake debating whether to through his hat in the ring to run for county attorney. This would be a huge change for him, switching sides from defense to prosecution. Plus it is no secret there has been corruption in the office previously so he would have a big job on his hands. Also if he does decide to run and wins how would affect these little investigations he seems to find himself in the middle of. A very interesting dynamic coming for this series in the future.

Like the previous books, friendship, a couple that is truly in love, drama, and plenty of action action fill the pages. The author continues to improve with each story and this is the best one yet! I highly recommend!
