Down in New Orleans, Arelia quickly discovers that there is no rest for the weary or for the wicked. With Emilie desperate to destroy her at any cost, Arelia must act like a true Queen and find answers to questions that she isn’t ready to ask. From the spirited halls of Darkwood to the lush hills of Africa and the ports of Haiti, Arelia chases after the past only to discover that the ghosts of yesterday never really die.
Filled with an unlikely romance full of danger, betrayal of the worst kind, an obsessive thirst for power, spirits with ways and means, Arelia’s strange and haunting world will spirit you away.
This book was way too enigmatic for my taste. 6 BOOKS into a series there shouldn't be this much, especially with a clearly defined set of antagonists. Also I can't help but feel that all the back stories are detracting from Arelia's story. And, the volume of quotes and spell ingredients listed in this book, it just felt like so much unnecessary/uninteresting information.
When the story moved it was good. But this book was an uphill battle to finish.
I thought this would be the ending, but I guess not.... This is a truly unique and great series to get into. Don't just jump in it though, read from the beginning because you will be all sorts of lost. Even I was a little after having to wait for the releases.
The story is extremely good, albeit a little confusing. I liked the back stories added this time, but thought the spells, songs and this smell and that smell was too much. It's okay to have some, but it became redundant and exaggerative.
This series literally had me hooked in the beginning. But I just can’t finish this. Shit just keeps happening and I’m just not here for it anymore is all.
I truly adore this series. There is just the right amount of research, effort, & passion in their making. The result? A young adult series which examines freedom, life, death, spirituality, morals, & - of course - love. These books are eye opening for someone such as myself, with no previous knowledge of New Orleans' background, nor of Haiti's.
I'm fighting at the bit to get my paws on the next instalment. Just when you start to think things can't get crazier, they do. In the very best way.
I don't know what I will do when this series ends......
Kira Saito is such an amazing author. I can read her books over and over again and every time it feels as though I am watching a movie. She gives you a full visual story in her books. This one was no different. If you haven't read this series from the beginning I highly recommended it!
I am really enjoying this series and I can't wait for payday to buy book seven! The characters alone makes this series compelling to read and want to continue reading!
Love this series as i am from the state of Louisiana and love the culture. I do wish in a way the series would finish and the spirits stop being so hard!!
