Kathy Clark has always been a storyteller. She completed her first novel when she was four years old and self-published it the same year. The Little Black Horse That Ran Away was self-illustrated and sold out of its first printing. Thanks Mom!

Since then, a total of twenty-three novels published by Dell, Crown, and Harlequin happened. With her husband Bob Wernly as a co-writer, they published (both traditionally and epub) an additional fourteen novels.

Nine of these fourteen books were self-published in the romantic suspense, young adult and erotic romance genres. The remaining five published by Random House LLC as the Denver Heroes and Austin Heroes, released in 2015 and throughout 2016.

The author team are currently developing a new contemporary romance series (with a suspense backdrop) titled Breathless. High altitude, high stakes, and high romance, the series will begin in 2017 with the first book, Fools Gold . The series is set in Cripple Creek, Colorado.

Their young adult genre series, Time Shifters, is a time travel romance-mystery series. The fifth book in the award winning series, Not My Life releases 10.18.16.

Finally, their new adult romantic suspense series, Scandals, currently has the first three books released.

With two people developing ideas, plotting, researching, writing and editing, Kathy and Bob are both busy and productive. To be perfectly honest, Kathy and Bob would rather be riding horses, sitting on a sandy beach, watching movies or plays, and playing a round of golf every few days. But the voices in their heads insist on coming out, so they keep writing.

Almost Forever is a well written romantic suspense that is the second book of the Austen Heroes book trilogy featuring three brothers who are all in law enforcement. This book is easily read as a standalone.

This story features Justin Archer, who has always been a by-the-book law officer to obtain his dream of becoming a Texas Ranger. He values his job above all else until he has to interview a beautiful, successful widow and mother. His job is to find out if Lori killed her husband eight years ago for control of their winery, but he has an instantaneous chemistry with her that is interfering with his usual professional demeanor. He has to trust his heart over his brain and look for a killer before Lori is blamed and imprisoned.

I enjoyed this story and characters, especially Granny. It is a fast read that covered all the romantic suspense bases of murder, secrets and hot sex. It does not go into new territory but keeps with the basic tenants of a romantic suspense. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

ARC REVIEW

Book two of the Austin Heroes series greets us with a dead body. Katy Clark continues the series with the Archer boys, this one the straight laced Texas Ranger Justin Archer. I really enjoyed this one it was nice seeing Justin so willing to risk his dream job for love. The story was a great mystery, a little predictable but I love the way it played out.

Lori Roberts lucked out when she meet Mark Roberts, a whirlwind romance that had them married after just a few days. Unfortunately that luck didn't last long, after she got pregnant he became emotionally abusive and distant and soon had a line of mistresses until one day he just vanished. Lori assumed he ran off with his latest mistress. Lori was happier without him she had her daughter and the winery. The winery that Mark was running into the ground, Lori however loved the place and nurtured it back and made it into a successful place. Justin has wanted one thing in his life and that was to become a Texas Ranger. From childhood his idols were the Rangers and he knew he would do anything to be one. Justin is good at his job he is a by the books kind of guy until he meets Lori. Accused of murdering her husband Lori's only hope is Justin. Justin believes Lori didn't kill her husband but the only way to prove it is by stepping away from the Rangers and digging in deep. Justin decides to stay with Lori not only because he in love with her but someone has been trying to kill her. Now Justin not only trying to find a killer but a would be assassin.

Overall, this was a good one not as good as After Love but at times it had a classic noir feel to it and I enjoyed that. I also love the new direction the cover went, very Texas western.

I thought this was an excellent story with strong, interesting characters, a unique storyline and superior writing. This is the second book in the Austin Heroes series but it can easily be read standalone.

Justin Archer is a Texas Ranger that finds himself in a very awkward situation when he has an intense attraction to the wife of the victim in his latest case. Lori Roberts always assumed her husband just ran off and hasn't bothered to return. After all their last conversation ended with him admitting he never wanted to be a husband or father and he wanted a divorce. When a body is discovered on the property of the family vineyard Lori now runs, she becomes the prime suspect in her husbands murder. Luckily the Ranger assigned to the case believes she had nothing to do with his death. As they work together to solve the case, they grow closer and a relationship forms between the two. Will Justin be able to find the evidence he needs to prove her innocence and bring the real killer to justice?

Lots of twists in this one! Definitely a book I recommend.

#2 in the Austin Heroes romance series

Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I liked that there was a little more to this story than just a Western romance. The mystery was interesting, and I enjoyed watching the clues build together into a cohesive story. It was the characters that threw me off (again--same as with the first book in this series). Justin is supposed to be a strong-willed and rule-following ranger, but in this story he's pretty casual about bending the rules and doing his own thing, mostly because he cares about Lori and just wants to do what he wants to do. I also felt the reveal about the murderer was a little abrupt and a little too pat. Would the law really just say "Oh, it's OK" even after all these years and with not a lot of evidence to the contrary? It seemed a little unbelievable. That being said, the story was fast-moving and the chemistry between them was hot! The mystery (or mysteries) kept me guessing, and I was surprised by the results at the end. It was fun to revisit with Nick and Jamie and Grammy here and there. And, OMG, this is one HOT cover!

I really liked the mystery in this story--dead man's remains are found just beyond the borders of his own property 8 years after he is believed to have left his wife and daughter. How did he end up in that shallow grave? Why is he naked? Where are his custom-made boots, and why is he missing a finger? What's up with the pricey diamond ring found near the body? His vineyard had been on the verge of bankruptcy when he left--how did his wife manage to renovate and turn the property around since then? I appreciated that the culprit isn't obvious--there is one major clue about halfway through the novel, but it wouldn't have been too hard to miss it if you weren't paying attention. When all is revealed, the how and the why are as satisfying as the resolution. Mystery portion of the story? A solid 4 stars.

There's suspense added in too--there's a definite threat to Lori and her daughter throughout the book that may or may not be related to the mystery of her husband's death. Once you know what happened to Mark, it's relatively clear what's going on on this front; though this part overall is a tad bit more far-fetched than the mystery itself. Suspense portion? About 3 stars.

Finally, the romance. Though I liked both Lori and Justin, the Texas Ranger who's originally assigned to the case, their romance was definitely a case of insta-love. I wanted to believe in their romance, but ultimately it just didn't quite work. There was a whole lot of telling us how much they cared about each other, but not enough showing. It didn't feel like a romance worth risking his job over, as much as I wanted to believe it was. So...the romance? Another 3 stars.

This was my first book by Kathy Clark. It's the second in her Austin Heroes series, but worked just fine as a standalone. Would I read more from her/from this series? Yes, I think so. I did like many of the characters (Justin's family--especially his Grammy--were particular favorites) and there were some truly funny parts (like this one, from Lori's POV:
Was it inappropriate to toast to finding out her husband was dead? There was still the matter of his being found naked and the other questionable circumstances surrounding his death. Had a jealous husband caught Mark in bed with his wife and beat the sh*t out of him? Definitely worth toasting. Or had he been attacked, stripped, and tortured before he was murdered? Not appropriate for toasting.
Okay, so it's a black humor. But still funny).

So...yes, I'd read something from Ms. Clark in the future. Though not everything here worked for me, I'm glad I took the time to give Almost Forever a try.

Rating: 3 1/2 stars / C+

I did not ever really engage with the story in this one. Justin and Lori both felt one dimensional to me, and I was not really ever able to believe in their attraction, especially that it was strong enough for him to risk his job to get involved with her while she was a murder suspect. Although, that element was also a little lost on me, as I never believed she was actually guilty. In the process of making sure the reader would be ok with Justin risking his career and getting involved with Lori, Kathy Clark made it incredibly obvious from the beginning that there was no way Lori was guilty of her husband’s murder…there was not a single bit of evidence that ever pointed to her, nothing that would make you think for a second she was guilty.

I also had issues with the pacing of the story, as it seemed to rush to a resolution and then it drug during the resolution, and then was at warp speed for the end.

I did not appreciate the obvious political bent of the story, either. I don’t want to know the politics of the author…after reading this, I have no doubt as to what side the author takes on the immigration issue as well as the political party of the author. It was completely unbalance and one-sided…and it made an entire portion of the book feel like a political speech, which I did not appreciate.

All in all, there is more in this that was a miss for me and I do not really recommend it.

I enjoyed reading Almost Forever. It was a fast-paced suspense romance novel.

The author does a good job keeping the suspense and mystery surrounding the characters and the plot.
While the suspense kept me reading , I thought it was lacking in the romance side. The main characters needed more of a spark to make a believable couple.

2nd series for Austin Heroes and this one is about Justin Archer, the oldest.
Justin is a Texas who never deviates from his job. His job always comes first and never had time for relationship. When human remains was found, he is call to his duty to investigate.
When he shows up at Lori Robert’s vineyard, he couldn’t believe his eyes. Yet she is one of the prime suspects. He needs to investigate the case but he is feeling something different this time. .
Lori worked so hard on her vineyard while her husband was gone. Now she can finally close that chapter in her life. She wasn’t happy in her marriage, one saving grace from her marriage is her daughter. When Justin showed up at her vineyard, she feels attraction to him but she knows she is one of the suspects.
Justin needs to figure out the murder of Lori’s husband.. He strongly believes she is innocent. When Lori calls in the middle of the night and they give into their instant chemistry.
When this case was assigned to his younger Texas ranger, he is determined to find the real killer..

It was great to see all his quirky family.. I love his brother’s dog Harley (still has strawberry addiction). Story moved quickly and it had enough steamy scenes, romance, suspense at the end. It was great summer read for me. I can’t wait to read about his younger brother.

So many questions with few answers one man remains are found just beyond the borders of his own property 8 years after he is believed to have left his wife and daughter. How did he end up naked in a shallow grave? So much mystery full of questions I just couldn’t wait to get the answer to. You are left on the edge trying to work it out from the meaning of the diamond ring found near the body to how his wife manage to renovate and turn the property around when he on verge of bankruptcy when he left. I loved the mystery of it all and the romance between Lori and Justin. Justin tries his best to work out the mystery and get all the answers could his feeling for the wife get in the way? I loved the writing style and the characters, granny was a delight I just can’t get out of my mind. It was very entertaining and a enjoyable read.

Love and mystery are all here…

And combine they did in the next read of the Austin Heroes series. Justin was the next Archer brother to find his love but he, and Lori, had to wade through a deadly mystery before they could even think about ever after… This author was new to me but I’m really enjoying her writing style and the characters and stories she has created. Falling in love is perhaps one of the most personal things one can do so I am loving feeling and hearing about it from the character’s perspectives. Justin’s devotion and belief in Lori was a highlight as the twists and turns, including betrayals and surprises, kept on coming…

*I happily reviewed this story

This is the second book in the Austin Heroes series, but is the first I have read in this series or by this author. I really enjoyed the story, complex characters, mystery, suspense, intense situations, and the intriguing twists that kept the pages turning. A fantastic story that I believe everyone will enjoy!

The mystery/suspense aspect of the story was great, however I wish that there would've been more development of their romance. There was definite chemistry between the couple, I liked how they tried to take it slow to get to know one another, but would've liked to had seen more interactions between them, aside from the investigation. Just my opinion. Either way, this was a great story!

I would definitely recommend this book, series, and author.

I was given a gifted copy by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Justin is a Texas Ranger and he is good at it. He has a new case and the first thing he has to do is communicate the death of her husband to the widow.
Lori has been abandoned by her husband eight years ago, and she had to take care of her baby girl and running his husband’s vineyard. Now he has been found dead and she is at the top of the suspect list.
The story is well-written, very intriguing and easy to read. You keep trying to guess who killed Lori’s husband till the last minute. The characters are credible and lovable, being the best one Grammy. I love her and her brownies. She is quite a character. She made me laugh all the time when she is misbehaving and all her boys have to cover their ears. That was hilarious.
However, there is at least one question unresolved in the story and that is about Mark’s left foot and finger missed. Where are they? Why aren’t they with the rest of the body? What is the point in repeating twice or three times about the missing foot and finger if they don’t mean anything to the story?
Anyway, apart from that, I did enjoy the story and I’m looking forward to reading the next one.

What would it take for the hero Texas Ranger to risk his career and future as a ranger? The right woman. And the chemistry between Lori and Justin is sizzling. They have a connection that is palpable, and the pull is strong enough for Justin to break his famous self-discipline, and act on the attraction.
The murder case is peculiar. There's very little to point out that Lori would be the killer, but there's enough to get her arrested. The clues are few and far in between, yet they manage to build a case, that will satisfy everyone involved. The tempo in the suspense part wasn't even or smooth, at times there was a great concentration on details, at others the information was just scampered through. The solution was wrapped up fast, and most details left to be assumed by the reader.
The romance happens on insta-style, but Justin gets an inside track to Lori's world when he has a chance, with a permission, to read her journals while investigating the case. That window opens up his eyes to see Lori's true personality, the troubles, and loss she had to endure with her husband, the joy of being a mother, and the strength she had to have to build the life and business she now has. I loved that part of the story, it was touching.
The biggest 'problem' I had with the story was the personal political views the author took the time to share with her readers. The first time it happened, I was annoyed, but later thought maybe it was okay with the plot, maybe it was sort of justified. But when it was repeated, with very one-sided information and obvious opinion, that reflects on one particular political party's views, I nearly didn't finish the story, and it was towards the end of it. I have said this before, and I will say it every time I see this happen, please, don't use this platform to share your political opinion, I, as a reader, don't care about it. Especially now when politics are coming at us from every media forum, romance novels are not the place they should be in.
The author managed to hit my other pet peeve as well: unprotected sex while writing a detailed sex scenes without any consequences.
Clear of those two issues, I enjoyed the story. The fondness and bond between the brothers were delightful, their respect and care for the Grammy adorable, the humor had me smiling, the banter chuckling, the murder mystery was intriguing, the danger and fear actual and sincere. The romance had a true sweetness to it even though zest with passion and Justin and Lori's daughter seemed to be instant allies. A very entertaining story, a quick summer read in a sun

Almost Forever is the second book in Kathy Clark’s Austin Heroes series which centers around three Texas brothers that are in law enforcement and their pot-smoking, hippie grandmother. Although it is a series and I have read the previous book, After Love, this book does work as a standalone. For this installment, the story is about Justin Archer who is the oldest of the three siblings. He is a genuine Texas Ranger with an impressive clearance record. He also has done a great job of keeping things professional and not letting a pretty woman affect his job up until now. When he meets winery owner Lori Roberts, everything changes for both of them. Unfortunately, she is both beautiful and a suspect in the murder of her husband whose body is discovered after being missing for 8 years.

From the moment Justin meets Lori, he is smitten and can’t understand why he is reacting that way. They have an instant emotional and physical reaction that they fail to deny. In fact, they end up having a careless tryst early into the investigation that instantly changes Justin’s role in the investigation. Justin and Lori end up teaming up to find out who the real murderer is while intensifying their relationship. The list of suspects is long since Lori’s former husband was a womanizer and a spoiled rich kid. There are several times where someone tries to kill Lori and Justin does everything he can to protect her. Justin’s family also gets involved and I could appreciate how they all came together like the strong family that they are. I was truly surprised when I found out what really happened to the victim and there’s a twist that I didn’t see coming.

Almost Forever was a good continuation from the first book in terms of allowing the reader to get to know even more about the Archer family and their roots. I was also impressed by how strong a woman Lori was. She is an astute businesswoman and a great mother. The book was filled with good role models without being unrealistic. The suspense was good without being too intense and the sex was scorching hot. I look forward to reading the next book, Another Chance, and getting to know more about the third brother.

I received an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review and here it is: 3 stars.

Although this is the second book in the Austin Heroes series, it's the first one in the series I've read, and only the second novel I've read by this author. I gave the first novel I read, Deep Night, a 5-star star rating, which is why I was so looking forward to reading this one, but there is no comparison between the two novels because when compared to the depth, intensity and angst of Deep Night, this novel is barely average, and I expected better from this author.

Justin Archer is a Texas Ranger, who is sent to a local winery after the skeletal remains of what appears to be a murder victim are found and identified as being those of Mark Roberts, the owner of that winery who disappeared 8 years earlier. Justin is there to inform the widow, Lori Roberts, that the man she thought had left her for another woman was, in fact, dead, and had been for the past 8 years. He's instantly attracted to Lori, who, of course, is stunning, as well as his prime suspect, and he finds it difficult to remain objective about the beautiful widow. There is also Mackenzie Roberts, age 8, the adorable and spunky daughter of the murder victim and with whom Justin seldom interacts, other than being grateful when she's not around, which gives him more sexual access to Lori.

There's no shortage of possible suspects in what turns out to be more of a run-of-the-mill murder mystery than a romantic suspense novel. What there is a shortage of is depth in the main characters, who are utterly one-dimensional, and even the sex scenes between them have no sizzle. There was one character who did shine--Justin's pot-smoking, brownie eating, 60's era, hippie grandmother.

Had this not been an ARC I had agreed to read and review, and one I'd looked forward to reading, I'd most probably have set this novel aside halfway through. While I wanted to know who murdered Mark Roberts, getting there was a chore rather than a pleasure. I know that this author has good writing skills and because I know how good a novel she's capable of writing, this novel, while an okay read as a mystery, was disappointing.

"Almost Forever" is the second book in Kathy Clark's "Austin Heroes" series. The series is based on three brothers but this book can definitely be read as a standalone, you won't be lost or anything if you jump into the series here, but I recommend the first book as it was a fun read.

I consistently enjoy Kathy Clark's books and this one is no exception. The plot was interesting and the pace was nice and smooth. It had a bit of everything: action, mystery, excitement, and of course, romance. I love the characters in this series, especially the eccentric granny.

Nick is a hot Texas Ranger who I wouldn't exactly call an "alpha male" but he is definitely all man. He loves his job and takes it very seriouysdly which is why he has such a hard time with the attraction he has for Lori. She's the prime suspect of a murder and it's his job to investigate her. Lori is a beautiful, sweet, woman who has worked tirelessly to bring her winery out of ruin after her (horrible) husband disappears. Her marriage was so awful she has a hard time believing a guy can actually be good. Nick's attraction to her makes him act out of character by getting involved with someone who is part of an investigation but he just can't resist. They are sweet together but it is definitely an "I've only known you for days but I'm in love with you and want to spend the rest of my life with you" situation. I'm not a huge "instalove" fan but that's why they call it fiction so I just rolled with it. It was a decent book despite the relationship moving so quickly. I loved the mystery. I felt like I knew what it was from close to the beginning but I still wasn't sure until it was actually disclosed. I liked the build up of anticipation and there was a bit of a surprise I wasn't expecting.

A fun read with enjoyable characters, I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

>Book Review – Almost Forever –

>This book is part of the Austin Heroes series and ends in an HEA. Justin is a Texas Ranger working on a murder case involving a widowed vineyard owner whom he has a huge attraction to. Lori is a single mom, widow and vineyard owner. Her husband, Mark left her 8 years earlier, without a word, until his body was found buried on her property.

>This book is a successful mystery. The book tries to also be a romance, but the attraction between Justin and Lori never felt right to me. I did like that both Justin and Lori were older. Seeing love in older characters is usually very romantic. These two characters had zero chemistry. They both go after each other in a strange animalistic way that didn’t fit either of their personalities.

>Justin’s grammy and his brothers offer the comic relief in the story. His grammy is a pot smoking hippy, while his brothers are in Homeland security and the DEA. The way they interact with their grammy while trying not to notice all the laws she is breaking is hysterical. Lori’s young daughter, Makenzie, is a character that was a little wasted. She had a cute personality and a love of horses, of which Justin owns two. Having some scenes showing some caring and interaction between Makenzie and Justin would have shown how deep Justin’s feelings towards Lori really went. As the story is written, Makenzie never even graduates to calling Justin by his first name. She calls him Ranger Archer.

>The mystery was well written and hard to figure out. The plausibility of the perpetrators not really having to pay for their cover up of a crime wasn’t too realistic, but didn’t really retract from the story. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the story 3 hearts. The mystery was fun, but the romance fell flat. I am a reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock.

A Texas Ranger and a wine making widow; who knew what a wonderful story that plot could make (Kathy Clark). Intrigue, plot twists and turns, families, brothers, a weed addicted Grammy, friends and horses, I'm sure I left some aspects of this book uncovered, especially that it was a wonderfully engaging story that I will enjoy reading time & time again.

Review can be read at It's About The Book

I enjoyed this little romance from Kathy Clark, a follow up in her Austin Heroes series. The love angle moved quickly (!) and the suspense was taut, so overall it was a great read, especially for summer. And I always love when my beautiful state is the background for a book, and Kathy Clark did an excellent job showcasing its strengths.

Lori had both a child to protect and a vineyard to run, so when a body was found on the neighbouring property, at first it didn’t affect her. But when a Texas Ranger showed up at her door, it suddenly became very important. What was her husband’s body doing there? And he was dead? Mark Roberts had been missing for eight years, and she’d always assumed he’d run off with another woman. What does this mean for her and her daughter?

Justin didn’t believe Mark Roberts wife had had anything to do with his murder. Call it gut instinct or lack of evidence–he just knew. But was he willing to put his job on the line in order to prove her innocence? Being an officer of the law requires a certain level of detachment, but Justin’s finding it a hard line not to cross.

Suddenly, the stakes get higher–someone’s trying to kill Lori.

The Romantic plotline of this book is pretty easy to follow, but the suspense really surprised me! Great way and fun read that’s especially great for #Texans. Except for that t.u. ring, Kathy. Should’ve been an #Aggie one

Almost Forever 4.5 stars

Book 2 in the Austin Hero’s Series is just as good as book one.

Justin Archer is a Texas Ranger and he’s one of the best around. He has never fallen for a suspect and always been able keep business on the up and up resulting in quick results. When he finds himself investigating a homicide at a local vineyard he finds that he’s not able to keep his feelings for the victim’s wife separate from the investigation. Lori is too kind and sweet to have killed her husband for personal gain, right?

Lori Roberts had brought her husband’s vineyard back from near bankruptcy but now, eight years later, his body has been found just outside the walls of their property. She is one of the lead suspects and is on the verge of losing everything and being sent to jail. She has to convince Justin that she didn’t kill her husband, not an easy task when everyone around knew that he was on the verge of leaving her.

This book was great, while there were a couple of aspects that I didn’t care for and the fact that it became obvious to me about half way through who had done it, there were still a few surprises that I wasn’t expecting. With that and the fact that I had forgotten just how funny Grammy was is the reason that I chose to go and give it another ½ star. While this is book 2 in the series, it can be read ad stand alone.

I was given an ARC from the publisher through Netgalley in return for an honest review.

Almost Forever is an entertaining romantic suspense, the second title in the Austin Heroes series. It can, and in my case was, read as a stand-alone. There’s an insta-love situation between a Texas Ranger and his prime suspect in the murder of her husband. The main mystery is that of Lori’s husband that disappeared eight years ago and trying to prove Lori’s innocence. At the same time Lori’s life is also being threatened. Oh the suspense! There’s also a really entertaining and interesting cast of characters and my favorite is Justin’s wise but perpetually stoned Grammy. She’s a hoot and gives great no-nonsense advice. Grammy and a skunk also provide some comic relief.

The resolutions to both the mystery of the murder and the threat to Lori’s life were well crafted and satisfying conclusions. Some nice twists and turns to get to the resolution and HEA. I read an ARC which did have a timeline detail that didn’t make sense but which hopefully was fixed before publication. Looking forward to reading the third book in the series for Justin’s brother Luke and going back to read Nick’s story as well!

I received an ARC of this book from NetGally, Random House - Loveswept and the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in this series. It opens with a discovery of a body in a field and it has been there awhile. Turns out eight years and a Texas Ranger Justin Archer is assigned the cold case. He first must drive out to a winery and notify the widow that they found her husband and the condition he was in. he is surprised by the look of the winery and by who many people are there. He is a beer drinker. He is surprised that the widow is not that old and is very good looking, and that she has a nine year old daughter. Once he makes the notification he begins to dig into the case and he finds out that the husband was not a very nice man, he had multiple affairs, and spending money they didn’t have, and was planning on selling the winery before his death. It is looking like the wife, but she cashed in a life insurance policy and the more he looks into it the more he is thinking she is innocent. They are also starting to become attracted to one another, and this gets him kicked off the case. This is a very good story of who done it with another mystery also going on. Along with the Justin and Lori working on themselves to see if they can have a relationship. A very good story. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 5 stars. I am surprised the over-all rating isn't higher for this book. I really liked it on so many levels.
The list of characters set-up for a very engaging story: a hot, sexy Texas Ranger, with two hotshot brothers, a pot smoking Grandma (don't read about that every day), an illegal alien, a wretched neighbor, a despicable(dead)husband and his many "hot to trot" lady friends, a sweet little girl and of course, the beautiful murder suspect. Even with his tough law enforcement attitude, Justin was a likable guy, that met his match in the "grieving" widow, Mrs. Lori Roberts. This widow was anything but grieving, as she was a capable, strong, sensible, business woman and mother with a body for sin, that captured Justin's heart and another certain body part immediately. The author crafted one of the finest erotic hallway scenes, that will have you blushing. The murder investigation has enough substance to keep you guessing. After reading this book, I wanted to pour myself a glass of wine and order the other books in this series. Not only did I get an entertaining read, I learned quite a bit about wine making. Over-all rating 4.25 to 4.5 Stars.

This one is entertaining, too. Justin Archer is the upright Texas Ranger of the Archer family. He is assigned a cold case when a human skull and remains are found in a field near a winery. The winery owner is the victim and he has been missing for eight years.

The owner's widow is a beautiful woman with an adorable little girl, and Justin is taken with them. He has to solve the case, however. Unfortunately for him, he is not able to concentrate as well as he normally does because he believes that Lori is in danger. When an intruder scares her daughter, Lori calls Justin first. He is removed from the case because he is no longer impartial. His replacement immediately arrests Lori for her husband's murder, and Justin is horrified. He is also ordered to take vacation time - and he spends it at Lori's home.

As they fall more deeply in love (without admitting it to each other or themselves), the danger and the mystery build. This one does have a few left turns that I didn't see coming. Good one.

I was given an ARC by NetGalley for an honest review.

This is the second in the series, but my first. It can easily be read as a standalone.

This is an instalove between a Texas Ranger and his prime suspect in a murder case.

Justin is a former cop turned Texas Ranger known for his dogged nature in clearing cases. Lori owns and runs a vineyard, restaurant and gift shop. She has a 9 year old daughter. Her husband has been missing for 8 years when his bones are discovered behind her vineyard.

I just didn’t feel the chemistry or any real heat between these two characters. Justin had hardly any interactions with Mackenzie, Lori’s daughter. Even Jamie and Nick seemed just kind of blah together. I think this book needed further character development and interactions.

Granny was a hoot. The suspense/mystery part of this book was pretty good with a couple of twists and turns. This book did not capture my attention enough to go back for the first book or to look for the next one in the series.

This is book 2 of the Austin Heroes series by Kathy Clark. But do not worry, if you, like me, have not read book 1 , it’s a stand alone, so you will be fine.
The story centers around Texas Ranger, Justtin Archer, and Lori Roberts, owner of a vineyard. Lori’s husband disappeared 8 years ago, and when his remains are accidentally found, Justin is assigned to the case. Lori is the prime suspect, but as Justin gets to know Lori and her daughter, he is convinced she is innocent and is determined to find the real killer.
These two are attracted to each other and as the story progresses, Justin feels conflicted.
It’s a story filled with suspense, interesting information on vineyards, family, and love. Great secondary characters will keep you entertained as well. Hope that the last of the brothers, Luke , gets his own story.

This book was gifted to me by Netgalley.

Sizzling chemistry, light-hearted, and suspenseful!

This is the second book in the Austin Heroes series, and this time we are off to solve an eight-year-old murder with a ruggedly handsome Texas Ranger.

The characterization is well done, with main characters that are attractive, complex, and interesting, and a whole mixed bag of supporting characters that are unique, likeable, and fun. While the plot is full of drama, secrets, deception, twists and turn, and romance that will captivate you until the very end.

This is an enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading about the third brother, Luke, when the next novel in the series is published.

Thank you to NetGalley, especially Random House Publishing – Loveswept, for providing me with a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

Almost Forever (An Austin Heroes Novel) by Kathy Clark is a terrific addition to this series. It has likable and honorable characters in Justin and Lori. Of course, everyone would think that the wife did it, but Ranger Justin Archer is willing to think differently.

The plot is strong with several twists. This is part of a series but stands very well alone. There are several unique supporting characters such as Granny that adds to the entertainment. Instant love is not my favorite type of story; I do understand that it had to be that way for Justin to feel so strongly about getting involved in Lori’s situation. This is the only thing about the book I did not fully appreciate.

This is the second book in the Austin Heroes series and features Justin, a Texas Ranger who has to inform Lori Roberts her husband has been murdered. He has been missing for 8 years and she thought he had simply left because he didn't want to be married or live and run the winery any longer. Now she is being accused of his murder but lucky for her Justin doesn't believe it and together they work together to prove her innocence. This is a well written book with thoroughly enjoyable characters. Grammy just gets better and better!

It was a pleasure to finally meet Luke and I cannot wait for his book!
