The Pursuit by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg is a 2016 Bantam publication.
I knew I was going to love this series right from the start, but I didn’t know I would like it this much! My only complaint is that the last book left poor Nick in limbo and it seems as though I’ve had to cool my heels awaiting word on his fate for entirely too long… nearly a year, in fact!! GAW!
But, the wait is finally over, and thankfully, my favorite, sexy, con artist, is alive, but has jumped from the fire into the frying pan.
Nick is enlisted by ex-Serbian military officer, Dragon Kovic to pull off a smash and grab diamond heist, but is then double crossed, leaving Kate with the task of helping him escape the authorities. They learn that Kovic has not only stolen diamonds, but something much more dangerous, something he intends to make billions of dollars from while taking great delight in killing Americans in the process.
So, once more Kate and Nick must put their heads together to device a con that will fool Kovic, retrieve his delicate cargo, and stay alive. While all the jobs they have worked together on have been dangerous, this case is one for the record books.
There are capers and cons which are entertaining with art or diamonds at stake, along with big money, but when the threat is terroristic in nature, the fun and games are over and Nick suddenly finds himself in a position of saving lives other than his own, which is a sobering thought!
This story took me on quite a globe-trotting adventure, and it was one wild ride! As always, the characters are zany, and the plot has that madcap, screwball feel to it, but is quite ingenious. Nick and Kate are really finding a groove as a team, as Kate steps over into the dark side a little more with each installment. Nick, is still Nick, but I did see a little glimpse of a more serious side of him this time around.
Overall, I enjoyed this book from start to finish, and frankly, I need books like this one from time to time. I stepped into Nick and Kate’s world and all the stress and depressing news of the world went away for a while. It was nearly cathartic. I got a few belly laughs, spent time with the charming Nick Fox, and enjoyed the crafty ‘ by seat of your pants’ con game competition, and the chillingly high stakes they were playing for.
Overall, this is another solid, entertaining addition to the series. I hope we don’t have to wait quite so long for the next installment!!

As I said just about a month ago . . . .
Janet Evanovich has been a summertime fluffy nothing kind of fave for years now. I won’t go over the deets (yet again), just know that I’ve read errrrrrrything by her. Her books usually only take a couple of hours to get through due to their simplicity, and if you check out the paper versions you’ll notice that large font, wide margins and plenty of space in between lines not only make them easy on the eyes, but also probably contain about half the content of a normal 300 page book. The fact that The Pursuit took over two DAYS rather than two hours for me didn’t bode well . . . .
This series (although it had the trademark female lead and love/hate romance along with action and adventure) started off well for me and I got a kick out of the supporting cast of characters. The Pursuit began right in the middle of an adrenaline rush – Nick in a coffin, kidnapped by a diamond thief with plans of partnering up. While Kate rushes in to save the day, the two learn that Dragan the crook has much more nefarious plan in mind – and also that he owns a limoncello company which made me go . . . .
You’d think between the diamond heisting and other heisting this would have been a real thrill-ride. Instead, it probably contained about 50 pages of actual story and the remainder was nothing but descriptions of the various locales they were visiting . . .
I’m not stupid enough to say I’m done reading Evanovich (especially when I keep getting them for not only zero dollars, but zero effort of hauling my lard butt down to the library either). However, the magic was definitely missing from this one . . .

Nick Fox, top con artist, criminal and now secretly working for the FBI is back with his FBI partner Kate O'Hare in an action packed adventure. In a Mission Impossible style adventure Nick and Kate must infiltrate a Serbian gang to prevent a major disaster that could kill thousands. Pure fun, this was a quick read complete with the evil villains, slick action, lively banter and quirky characters that we have come to expect from this writing partnership. 3.5★

A fun read to start the new year with. Full of Nick and Kate’s witty banter the story offers engaging heists and ingenious con jobs. Thousands of lives are on the line as Nick and Kate plot to pull off one of their biggest con’s ever.

“We don’t need a rocket launcher.”
“Sure we do,” Jake said. “Nothing creates opportunity like a rocket-propelled explosive.”
“It would also create an international incident. I’m going to be in enough trouble as it is.”

“You haven’t filed your form S-Q-zero-zero-niner,” Cosmo said.
“I’m pretty sure I filed that,” Kate said, having no idea what he was talking about.
“We can’t find it.”
“If you call me again I’ll have you killed,” Kate said. “I can do it. I know people.”
Their biggest and most dangerous rival - Dragan.
Smallpox is the deadliest virus humanity has ever known.
On learning new things -
“That’s why the FBI needs me to catch people like me. Sometimes you have to commit crimes to prevent bigger crimes,” Nick said. “The curriculum at Quantico needs to be changed. They should invite us in to teach.”
Nick and the despair of the Snooty eater.
“Do you have any instant coffee?” Kate asked.
“I have rat poison,” he said. “It’s probably tastier. I’ll make you an espresso in a minute.”
Belgium, Paris, a castle and underground catacombs.
You’ll also find cables like these running through some of the ossuaries.”
“In case the dead want to check their email,” Nick said. “Or binge on The Walking Dead.”
The Crew is busy making a short film in their free time. Productive people.
“I’m surprised you’re doing another zombie flick,” Nick said to Chet. “I thought you were tired of the genre.”
“Those aren’t zombies,” Chet said.
“They sure look like hungry zombies to me,” Kate said.
“It’s lust,” Chet said. “They don’t want to eat Boyd. They want to screw him.”
“Good grief,” Kate said. “Why would they all want to do that?”
Jake, happy memories and reunions.
He’s always traveling to some reunion for ex-military guys. But I think it’s just a cover.”
“For what?” Kate asked, trying to sound innocent.
“Mercenary work. He comes home way too happy.”
“Maybe he really enjoys reliving old times with his buddies.”
“I’m sure he does,” Megan said. “By shooting people and blowing things up in some third-world country.
“It’s not like they got drunk one weekend and deposed a dictator for fun.”
“You’ve done that?”
“Let’s just say there’s a capital in deepest, darkest Africa where you’ll find a guano-covered statue of a soldier who looks a lot like your old man,” Jake said. “Bottom line, you’re in good hands.”
It's going round and round with some twists thrown in..
I may have to go to my AA meetings twice a week until this is over to stay sober,” Jessup said.

I decided to finish out the Lee Goldberg portion of the Fox and O’Hare series and was not disappointed. Book 4 – The Scam – was my least favorite in the series and I almost didn’t read The Pursuit but now I’m glad I did.
The action was back. The heist and con were dangerous, exciting, and interesting, and the bad guy was actually pretty dark in how he treated his employees (and was planning on killing tons of Americans).
A new character was introduced, if anyone remembers the robbery that the team accidentally botched in The Chase – the leader is brought back as a sewer expert. Oh my gosh he had me cracking up with laughter because he took himself so seriously, but he did his job. It was also nice to drop back in on Montreal, one of my favorite cities!
The regular team is back as well, Willie and Boyd and the crew. We finally see some chemistry and action between Kate O’hare and Fox too, which *even I* was ready for at this point. I’m glad Jake (her dad) approves too. I’m also glad that he got to pass his love for rocket launchers onto Willie!
The characters carry these books for sure even when all else fails. Jake always manages to bring in some amazing old military buddies and the entire team has great chemistry at this point. I always say there is banter for days but it’s true!. There’s a new office assistant type character as well that I think was a Goldberg addition 😂
I think what finally set this one apart was the ultimate danger and complexity of the con – I do love medical things and the bio terror / terrorism angle was something new for the series. Also it seemed like a lot of bad guys got shot and killed – and the FBI was like GUYS YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN!
Overall: if you think there’s a book 3-4 slump, I would keep reading for this one. You can always check out the audio as well, Scott Brick can do no wrong and delivers a solid no frills narration with plenty of vocal variety!

Nick Fox is kidnapped by a smash and grab gang, to assist in a major diamond heist. However, he is double crossed and left unconscious for the police, and even Kate O'Hare's FBI credentials cannot save him from the Belgian police, which of course requires a jailbreak so Kate and Nick can help infiltrate the gang to recover the real prize stored in the vault. Of course, in order to get the gang to disclose where the real prize was stashed, an elaborate scam is required, involving the usual cast of characters. The fun shifts to the sewers and catacombs of Paris, and as always, things go awry: the hallmark of this series.

This was another classic Fox and O'Hare novel. Full of entertainment and action from the start. I did feel like it was missing some of the usual banter between Kate and Nick. It was there, but there wasn't enough of it in this one for me.
All the other usual characters are in this one too, which makes for some extra comic relief.
A fun and quick read as per usual with Janet Evanovich.

Another clever entry in the series. This time the con is forced upon them after Nick is kidnapped by a crazy Serbian ex-military officer (the flyleaf says ex-Serbian military, but I just can't say that, he is still Serbian).
One glaring error was toward the end, when Kate's name appears where the other female lead should be. I actually went back a page or two to see if I had missed something, then continued reading to see if that would explain it. Turned out to be just an error, and the proper name appeared in the scene.
Nick and Kate's exploits take them from Hawaii to Europe, to diamond brokerages and Parisian sewers, overall a fun jaunt. They get help from the usual cast of characters, with a few new ones thrown into the mix.

This book starts with a bang.
At the end of the last book we were left with a couple of questions about what had happened to Nick and what Kate would have to do to rescue him, the bar was set pretty high and I’m glad it didn’t disappoint.
Kate and Nick are involuntarily thrown into the path of a diabolical, crazy man with big plans: a biological attack on US soil that will crash the stock market and allow him to make tons of money.
Thus begins the count down to stop him, Nick and Kate will have to rely on their associates and devise a con that will put the bad guys behind bars for good.
Finally, these two have sorted their shit out and are finally together; watching Kate going to such lengths to free Nick in the beginning of the book (where if it had happened in the first book she would’ve easily left him behind) and then just caring for each other made me smile so hard! And he invited her to his French house! And in the end they had breakfast at her house together! These two are so damn cute!!!
It’s SUCH a shame that this series wasn’t continued, but I’m glad it ended on such a high note...can you imagine if one of the author would’ve continued writing it and ruin everything achieved just to earn a few more bucks?! Such a tragedy. 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

Great to see Nick and crew back in action, this time saving the world from a mad man hell bent on releasing a deadly biological weapon on the U.S.. Book 5 is brilliantly written with just the right amount of romance, action, and humor; I'd expect nothing less from this series!

I just learned that Janet Evanovich had a new series called Fox and O'Hare. I've read her other series, but just learned about this one, and of course, starting with Book #5. From what I'm learning, Kate O'Hare and Nick Fox have worked on cases before, and they have special talents and abilities that are used in these books.
In this book, Nick Fox is kidnapped by a gang, to assist in a huge diamond heist. Not my favorite of the five books in this Fox and O'Hare series, nonetheless it did not disappoint. With these books you can count on getting a good dose of action, entertainment and good laughs.
I've really enjoyed this series so far. Not sure if this is where it ends, but I'll be keeping my eye out.
Unlike other books, not much goes "wrong" so to speak. Sure there are some diversions to the original plan, but those that weren't predictable, weren't extremely hard to deal with. The supporting characters found in their other novels, were in this one as well, but with a much smaller role.

After the ending of The Scam , I have my fingers crossed that my second favorite (after Ranger from the Stephanie Plum novels) bad boy book boyfriend is OK.

I really do enjoy these books but I'm not going to lie, they are starting to all feel the same. The lecherous villains, the female bodyguards, the plots that rely heavily on action. We're told Kate looks sexy all the time even though she is always dropping food on her wrinkled, unflattering clothing.
Also, there is another FBI agent who crops up in this one and his entire character feels like the Worst Idea Ever on the part of the government and I'm just confused by it.
We'll see. Not sure how much more I can take.

I am always thorn when I have a book written by Janet Evanovich. I want to read it as soon as possible, because I know it will be a hit once again. On the other side, I don't want to read it yet because then the fun will be over again and the long wait for a new book starts.
So yesterday, on a freezing cold and snowy day, I could not resist any longer.
I enjoyed it! I love the twists, the shemes, the fun, and the absurdity. A well wirtten story that keeps you glued to you chair until you have finished it.

Kate and Nick. Fun characters in a cat in mouse game. This was fun and it also had some good action. Dragan Kovic seemed a little more dangerous than the previous ‘bad guys.’ The back alleys and sneaking around seemed more suspenseful. I enjoyed it!

It finally happened!
If you haven’t been reading these books stop now because this will spoil everything! Spoiler, Spoiler you have been warned!!!
At the end of book 4 they finally got together! And for once I wasn’t disgusted that it was a fade to black. I liked that it was left to my imaginations. I know CRAZY! I was afraid that having Kate and Nick start a romantic relationship would ruin the chemistry between the two but it didn’t. There is just as much and the story is just as brilliant. Now it’s a matter of, how will they stay together? I love it!
This has to be one of their most daring cons yet, with so many lives on the line and a truly crazy and evil bad guy. This books is funny, suspenseful, romantic, and adventurous and I loved listening to it. I can’t wait to see what comes next for Kate and Nick....Sara

This book picked up where the other one left off, and was a lot of fun. Jake remains my favorite character, with full of great lines, like the following:
“I’ll call my friend who left the guns for us in the park,” Jake said. “He can get us a rocket launcher.”
“We don’t need a rocket launcher.”
“Sure we do,” Jake said. “Nothing creates opportunity like a rocket-propelled explosive.”
and
“Well, I wouldn’t be much of a father if I didn’t occasionally blow up a castle for you.”
The story remained action packed, but we are finally getting to know a bit more about Nick Fox and see more behind his carefully practiced facade. I am still really enjoying this series.

Okay the rating is about how much I love the series, the plot was quite good. I enjoy Kate embracing the dark side a bit (i.e. bending the rules and conning the bad guys).
Nick and Kate are finally somewhat on the same page personally. But you have to wonder what shoe will drop next.
Fun, fun little series with a White Collar Con-Man (Nick) tied to an Excellent FBI Agent (Kate). If you liked the show, this is a slam dunk series you'll enjoy

I was enjoying this series, especially the cliffhanger at the end of "The Job." This installment was a bit disappointing. The banter between Nick and Kate has softened and is not as much fun. I am also growing weary of the havoc they leave in their wake whilst saving the world. No accountability!

Nick Fox, infamous con artist and thief, woke up in a coffin. His ability to stay calm was partially due to the lingering effects of the tranquilizer shot he'd been given eighteen hours earlier, in Honolulu. Thus begins the next adventure of Fox and O'Hare, which is a fast paced, fun ride involving colourful characters, world travel, nefarious evil-doers and the team Fox and O'Hare put together to take those nefarious evil-doers down. Yes, another book rife with derring-do--and possibly real doo-doo and other vile things in some of the world's sewers. While I have two more to read (I keep reading them in the wrong order), I am disappointed that the publisher has cancelled the one due out this year. Too bad Nick and Kate can't convince them to change their minds...
