Mine #6

Mine to Protect

Rate this book
He agreed to protect her...not love her.

Victor Monroe left behind a brutal past when he decided to become an FBI Agent. He knows that other agents think he's too cold, that he has ice in his veins, but he doesn't care what folks say about him. He gets the job done—always. No matter the cost.

Then he's blackmailed into guarding...her.

Zoe Peters, ex-showgirl, daughter of a mob boss and drug dealer, a witness who wants to vanish. Zoe is wild, beautiful, and on far too many hit lists. It's now Victor's job to keep her safe—a job that Zoe makes damn difficult. But keeping her alive is his mission. It's supposed to be strictly professional between them. Just another case. Only...

He never counted on falling for her.

Zoe is not the woman he expected. She isn't cold or hard. She lights up the room when she walks into it, and despite the hell surrounding her, Zoe is good. Probably too good for Victor because Zoe doesn't know about the secret deal that Victor worked out with her father. Zoe doesn't know that Victor intended to use her for information and then turn her over to waiting operatives.

Desire wasn't supposed to enter the equation. The white-hot lust he feels for Zoe should have never threatened Victor's legendary self-control. But she's under his skin...melting his ice...getting to him... Soon Victor doesn't care about the law or about the lines he has to cross for Zoe. She is his priority. Victor will not rest until every threat to her has been eliminated. And then...

Zoe will be his.

4 - "Ready to cross some lines?" Stars!

Another stellar addition to the Mine series. Cynthia Eden is among a small group of authors whom I list as a guilty pleasure in that, her stories don’t necessarily change a huge amount, and the characters are all pretty similar in their make-up, but I just love them anyway.

Victor Monroe has been a secondary part of the series for a while now, he has played larger supporting roles in the last couple of books in that they have focused on characters that he has a primary involvement with. Cynthia has mad skills at keeping her characters pretty intriguing and elusive when she wants to keep a little mystery surrounding them, and she did that really well with this guy, all we really know prior to Mine to Protect is that he has a dark, shady past, and that he is a FBI agent who now deals with shady and dark criminals…

"Tell me your secrets…”
“Will you tell me yours?”

Oh and let’s not forget Zoe Peters, the daughter of a notorious crime boss, who he is trying to protect in exchange for information from her father. One small problem with that, they have insane chemistry and both of them are struggling to keep things ’professional’ when stuck in close quarters with each other.

As I have come to expect, the plot twists and turns in this one, and the good and the bad guys aren’t necessarily who you expect them to be. The author introduces a few new characters as well, so you never know, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more from this series at some point in the future.

”I want everything… With you.”

Add in some superb sexy times and this read was as I expected it to be, a well-used couple of hours of my time.

Another winner from Cynthia Eden.

Cynthia Eden writes some of the best alphas. I just love her heroes, with their possessiveness, their loyalty and their absolute devotion to their women. Some of them are a little clueless at first about their feelings, like Victor, but that just makes the journey to their light-bulb moment just so much more fun.

“You think I can’t see that I’m screwing things to hell and back with you?” His voice was low, ragged. “I see it. I know it, but I don’t know how to stop. I want you safe. I want to give you everything you need. I just don’t fucking know how.”

Victor has a dark past and when he became an FBI Agent, he left behind his borderline criminal activities. To him nothing else matters but getting the job done. He doesn’t care how it gets done, or who he has to use, to accomplish this. Everyone believes him to be cold and heartless, himself included. Until he meets Zoe Peters…

I’ve been wanting to read Victor’s book since Mine to Crave, and I was not disappointed. Victor was all I wanted him to be and more. I loved how he fumbled around Zoe with his thoughts and his actions, fighting his attraction to her, but unable to stay away from her. He was so possessive and protective over Zoe, trying to get his job done, but still trying to keep her safe and happy. And too blind to see how important she was to him, more important than his job, until it was almost too late. I absolutely loved seeing Victor lose his ice-man persona around Zoe, and the iron control he excels at.

Zoe was wonderful, and I felt so sorry for her. Because her father is a mob boss and drug dealer, his enemies and the FBI wants to use her to get to him, and all she wants is a normal life. I was amazed at how good a person Zoe was, even after all the horror she endured at the hands of her father, and being betrayed by almost everyone she has known, she still believes in the good of people, trying to save others at her own expense.

I loved the chemistry and the romance between Zoe and Victor. I always love the way this author writes the romance in her books, and this book was no exception. It was sexy, hot and romantic.

Cynthia Eden is probably my favorite RS writer. I love how she keeps the perfect balance of romance and suspense, never skimping on either.

This series is fantastic, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves great RS!

I love Cynthia Eden's Mine series. Her leading men are always so alpha and protective. I also loved how fast paced this book was...lots of action too! Another great read that kept me guessing the whole time.

Really liked this one. Guilty pleasure read with plenty of suspense and some twists and turns. Protective alpha male and a damsel not-so-in-distress :). What I like about this one, it didn't take forever before we got to the sexy times. :)

A nice re-read overall, not one of my favourites in the series but Eden ensures the book engages me. Unlike in previous books the chemistry between the MCs, Zoe and Victor doesn't sizzle and spark off the page, the interactions between the two didn't have me drawn in as I had hoped.

Really enjoyed this one, the twist and turns kept me glued till the end to see how Zoe was going to get clear of her predicament.

Loved Victor, even though he was an idiot a couple of times (aren't all men lol) but once he extracted his head from his arse he was all in with Zoe.

Zoe irritated me a bit with her wanting to pull heroic moves when she clearly didn't have the wherewithal to do so (she had a bit of TSTL going on with regards to her friend, if I'm honest). Still, a great addition to the series.

About friggin time !! I've been waiting for Victor's book since we first met him.

Okay so I wasn't liking the way things started and I thought Zoe and Victor's relationship was kinda of messy and rushed but halfway through the book it got really interesting and I completely forgot about the things I didn't like. So yeah I ended up loving the hell out of Victor and Zoe.

I wasn't sure about this one at the start, wasn't sure that I could trust that Victor was indeed interested in Zoe for other reasons than the case. It did seem like everyone in Zoe's life betrayed her. By the end I still wasn't too sure about things, they seemed a bit too pat.

3.5 stars. I didn’t love Mine to Protect as much as I expected to but it was still a good addition to this great series. While there was still plenty of suspense and action, this time I didn’t really feel the connection between Zoe and Victor physically and emotionally.

The plot was fast paced and action packed, while the characters were strong and complex. These two went to great lengths to protect each other and get their happily ever after.

Drake and Yasmin from Mine to Crave book #4 made an appearance in this book and played a big part in the story and I loved it.

Overall it was an enjoyable read, both main characters Victor and Zoe were very likable and I got what I love more in a book, another protective and possessive alpha man.

4.5* Another really enjoyable book in this series. It was full of twists and turns and really kept me guessing and completely hooked until the very end. It has also made me want to go back and reread this entire series, and hope there will be more books to come too.

Overall though it was a really great story, both main characters Victor and Zoe were very likable, even with there murky pasts, and it was good to catch up (although briefly) with a few reoccurring characters and to meet some new ones too, and I would certainly recommend this story to others. Especially those who are a fan of the series or Cynthia Eden's other romantic suspense novels.

I 😍 LOVED THE LUSTFUL & PASSIONATE INTENSITY BETWEEN THE MCS but I found the heroine to be extremely lacking, apart from her beauty. I don't mind a determined or headstrong woman but Zoe rubbed me the wrong way by how reckless and unreasonably demanding without thinking the situation through.

VICTOR was the all-american COP VERSION of a varsity star athlete - HOT, DEDICATED and RUTHLESS. I liked what he represented and how smitten he was with Zoe. For a man who prided himself on getting the job done, no strings attached and hardly allowing his heart to rule his decisions, he sure broke a lot of personal rules for Zoe. I experienced his desires and struggles for Zoe, believing he was the one who sacrificed more and was willing to compromise more than Zoe. It's not because I'm petty but, i call it like I see it.

ZOE was a helpless damsel. Period. Apart from her passion to save a friend, i was annoyed by her thoughtlessness. She didn't think how her stubborn demands to rescue a friend or her insistence to be let go would hurt or kill the ones helping her - especially Victor. I understood her desire to ditch her protection and the cops but when it was futile, she just seemed ungrateful. And Victor had to save her life aplenty. Honestly, i would prefer if the author had toned it down a little - once or twice is fine - but constantly? Detrimental.

FINAL THOUGHTS? I enjoyed it up to a point before the heroine became a killjoy, and despite the story being driven by lust more than romance. I know the poor girl was being used by everyone in the story, but her actions and behaviour made Victor's efforts seem wasted on her.

Well... that was disappointing.

I'd hoped for, expected, so much more, especially since I was looking forward to Victor's story.

The characters were alright, I suppose. I didn't care for any of the main ones, though I did like that Drake and Jasmine made an appearance. If there had been better explanation of Zoe's and Victor's pasts, the story might have been better. I feel like I don't really know them. And as such, I don't care.

I didn't understand the main characters' relationship. It was rather unbelievable, and I don't feel that they really connected. They didn't really seem to know each other, especially not each other's pasts. I'm guessing they worked that out, but it wasn't exactly in the book.

I also wish there was more elaboration into Luther's character. He seemed fascinating, and I'm glad he actually seemed to "care" about Zoe and wasn't the main villain of the story.

Of course Tom just had to be "obsessed" with Zoe. Though I don't usually like one-dimensional characters, I think I would rather have had him just be ambitious and power-driven than obsessed with the heroine. His so-called "obsession" also seemed rather far-fetched, so I think he really was just motivated by power.

The plot wasn't engrossing, either. There weren't as many twists and turns as there were in the first few books. So, overall, the characters and relationships lacked development and the story was mildly bland at best. Rather a let-down for a close to a series.

I like my stories smart, sassy and confident just like the characters present in this book.
Victor was so protectively and guarded from the start and I just wanted someone nice for him and Zoe was great for him. Looking for someone to take care of her but walking all over her.
They both were amazing together and that made the story sweet

A twisted tale!

Zoe, a mob bosses daughter, on the run, with a price on her head. Just wants to run away & hide, but Special Agent Victor Monroe wants to protect her at all costs. Lots of bad guys after them. Who can they trust? Enjoy these dynamic characters. 📚🎉❤️🌻

I love Cynthia Eden's books and this is classically her style. Strong, emotionally-challenged hero, likable kickass heroine, and a handful of bullets and car chases.

A must.

Now we finally get Victor’s story and glad it ended with his.

I wasn’t keen on him in previous books but he did grow on me.
