The gods have always been more like humans than they care to admit. Love. Lust. Jealousy. Hatred—there’s no escaping any of it.
‘Til Death is a peek into the romantic dalliances of the ancient ones, detailing the beginnings of two very different marriages in two powerful pantheons. Catch up with Loki and Aphrodite centuries before the two fading gods happen upon each other in a martini bar in modern-day Manhattan, and follow the beginnings and endings of their respective marriages here and in the follow-up, Do Us Part, in Spring 2016.
'Til Death is a free 10K short story that takes part in the Lovers and Liars universe. It is an optional prequel to The Maenad of Manhattan, and can be found on Smashwords and its premium retail distributors. It is rated 'M' for mature themes.
Liz is a Canadian author who grew up in the Middle East. She has a degree in Bioarchaeology from Western University, and when she isn't writing about her own snarky characters, she is reading about other people’s snarky characters, babying her herb garden, loitering on social media, or taking care of her furbabies.
Liz dabbles in both paranormal and contemporary erotic romance. Her paranormals are usually dark and angsty, and her contemporaries are stress-free smutfests, but you'll find both riddled with feels. Most of all, she loves writing realistic characters in fantastical settings.
As always, I will never rate my own work. BUT, I will chat a little about writing it. I was encouraged to explore the themes of 'beginnings' for the It Begins Here anthology, and when I realized I could do that within my own little world, I hopped to and wrote a piece about the beginnings of Loki and Aphrodite's respective marriages. It gave me a chance to play and explore two characters who, in many ways, are quite different here to their modern counterparts. It also allowed me to bring in two other gods, Sigyn and Hephaestus, and discover where their fictitious versions of two real-world mythological deities fit in my little universe.
And, quite honestly, Sigyn quickly became a new favourite of mine since writing her here. I've played with her in fanfiction a little, though that was more of a "Marvelized" version that I sort of just toyed with. Here, she's a blend of what little mythological references we have of her and my interpretation of her character. In the end, she was my favourite of the four point-of-view segments, and I look forward to possibly exploring more of her and Loki's old world relationship through little novellas and short stories. Or, perhaps, she'll make a rare appearance in the modern Lovers and Liars timeline. Who knows.
Thank you to everyone who read or added this to their to-read shelves, and I look forward to possibly seeing you moving forward with The Maenad of Manhattan and the books that follow.
Well, 2 Stars because I wanted more. It felt too short, the build-up in the story deserved at least a few more pages, "prequel" or not. On to the next.
Well, it's a prequel, so it's decidedly short. Do Us Part is next, but I very much didn't like it, as it gives background to Aphrodite-she's basically painted as a whore god, with not much meat to her character, just an airhead goddess, who is just going through the motions with Hephastus. Loki is the trickster, and even though he comes of as patient and caring towards Sigyn, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop after he has her.
I seriously don't know if I'll continue with the series, yet the blurb for book one had me anticipating the series, yet prequel 1 just killed it for me.
I was so lucky to have gotten to read an advance copy of this story. It's absolutely wonderful! I loved Loki and Sigyn's story (so adorable!), and Aphrodite's story had me blushing in all the right ways. Liz really knows her sexy stuff! ;) I can't wait to see where this story leads!
