Think on your sins. Shepherd does it every damn day. He pays his penance in service to his MC—keeping their secrets, guarding their gates, shouldering their burdens. But his own secrets threaten to bury him. Secrets bigger than forbidden temptations. Secrets older than his loyalty to the club. Secrets deeper than the grave he'll take them to. And there's only one thing—one person—that he'd sacrifice it all for.
Pretty Boy spent a lot of his life wandering in the darkness and the rest of it following Shepherd to the Promised Land of the Four Horsemen MC. Once upon a time, Shepherd sacrificed everything to keep Pretty Boy safe and he's hellbent on proving to Shepherd that it wasn't for nothing. That he isn't nothing.

Sara Rayne is the author of the Amazon exclusive Idle Hands Series, as well as author of books #5 (Hellbent) and #8 (Hell or High Water) in the Amazon bestselling Four Horsemen MC series.
I have fallen in Love with this series. I can't wait for the rest of this series. I bought this book and book #6 and I read them both in 1 day. I couldn't put the books down. This book is about Shep the VP of the Four Horsemen. He wants what he believes he shouldn't have, but he comes to the term of yes he does. If you like motorcycle clubs who do good. They are macho alpha males that I love. This is a stand alone book, but I would recommend to start at the beginning of this series so you get the stories behind some of the guys--Cap, Ryker, Cowboy and Duke. This author really gets you into the story, you root for them, you feel what they feel, you are immersed in their story, and their lives. This is an awesome author.
One of the best M/M romances I have read. Two alpha males trying to deal with their love/desire for each other in the bad ass world of a motorcycle club. Shepherd has been an intriguing character since book 1 and I was hooked into his and Noah's story before this book was released. I have enjoyed this entire series and the characters the author has delivered in each segment. Looking forward to the next in the series.
This was a rollercoaster of a read and I was sad to end it at the 1 star rating. I went from enthusiastic and elated, to slighty annoyed, to pissed off to meh and ended the story with a resolve to never touch anything from this author again (mostly because she writes f/m and I'm not here for that anyway).
Good things first: The writing is really wonderful. I had not realized how much the m/m side of things is inferior in this department until I read this from a primarily f/m author. Wow, the difference is striking and a little sad.
So the writing was great, the characters were fun, the MC felt like a real MC and all the members appropiately badass. What was the problem?
Well, first of all the author felt a need to insert her fandom. Her bad luck that it's also my fandom and that I'm on the other side of the shipping war traumatizing that particular fandom. I just can't help having 'opinions' on people who ship Destiel and one of them is that they just can't help themselves by shoving their ship into place where it doesn't need to be. Hasn't Rainbow Rowll done enough?
Do we really need a bunch of Biker Old Ladies have a pajama party watching Supernatural and waxing poetic about the UST, sex eyes and how obvious the love between Dean and Castiel is? Do we then also really need one of these women trick one character into sleepin in the same bed as the other character? Because in the year of our Lord 2019 it is still fun to play these immature games with real people with real feelings? And do the fellow bikers really need to have their eyes opened to the obvious love of the main characters through the SPN ship? Do we really need to beat the dead horse to death by then explaining what an OTP is having a character state that Destiel is of course theirs?
I'm sure fellow shippers loved that, but even if I shipped it: I am over this need to drag fandom kicking and screaming into the light. Leave it where it belongs and your story will be better for it.
It was as if this little interlude sucked the juice out of the story. It became a wanna-be angsty slog in the last third and left me incredibly disappointed.
This was such a romantic Story!! It may not be safe (they were with other people after they had an attraction but before they acknowledged their relationship) but I totally understand because it really was very difficult for both of them to acknowledge their feelings. I loved this book! One of the best M/M stories!
I was looking forward to this story but.......... was pretty sure I wasn't going to like it and file it DNF because I'm really not a big fan of MM. BUT! This was written so tastefully and yes even the sex was super HOT. It's their love story and I LOVED IT!!
I've been waiting for this book for THREE YEARS. I'm not even kidding. I'm glad I finally don't have to wait anymore!
And let me tell you that this might be a rather biased review, because I love Shep. Absolutely adore him. Shep can do no wrong. And Pretty Boy too. Both of them are very special to me, because I've been seeing them making cow eyes at each other since book one and I was going friggin' crazy with all the sexual tension. I wanted to know their story so bad. SO BAD! And finally they get their own book! My feels! MY FEELS!!
Shep is the VP for the Four Horsemen MC, and the only things that matter to him are the club and Pretty Boy. Pretty much everything he's done is to make sure that Pretty Boy is safe.
Pretty Boy has been in love with Shep almost right from when they met, when it seemed like Shep was the only one in the whole world who gave a damn about him.
There is so much sexual tension between these two the screen just about sizzles and pops. Shep and Pretty Boy are made for each other. Shep keeps denying himself, because he feels like the Club should come first, and also that the MC members wouldn't be very happy if he came out, since he's heard some of them say... less than polite things about homosexuals.
Pretty Boy know Shep wants him, and he wants him back just as much, but he also feels like Shep deserves better than him.
My heart hurt reading about all the things that these two had to go through. It's obvious that they're both meant to be together. Everyone can see how Shep is protective of Pretty Boy, and how Pretty Boy's eyes seem to constantly follow Shep around. He knows when Shep is coming just with the sound of his bike.
Both of these guys are badass and awesome. And they're so tender with each other. I just about melted every time they were alone on screen because FEELZ! TENSION!EVERYTHING! WHY AREN'T THESE TWO PUTTING RINGS ON IT AND NAKED CUDDLING ALREADY?
When the Naked Cuddling does happen, it's super friggin hot. It's well written, emotional, genuine. (by the way... it wasn't just cuddling... if you know what I mean. There was one particularly INTENSE scene in the back of a truck in the middle of a storm that BLEW MY MIND). I may have felt tingles in my secret places.
When they finally get through all the tough shit, after all they've been through, they know finally that they're it. And you know that they're on their way to that HEA they so truly deserve. There's some new shit going down with the bad guys, but Shep and Pretty Boy are going to be Okay, and that is all I need.
------------------------------
Now that I've gotten my feels out of the way, I should probably say some things about the book and series itself that isn't just me fangirling about Shep and Pretty Boy.
This book was well written and engaging. Pretty funny at times too, and super emotional. I really like the whole concept of Hell, Texas, and the four Horsemen MC. Each chapter in Hellbent starts with a rule from the prospects handbook, which is super nice, because Pretty Boy is a prospect. I loved the salute thing they have going on between the prospects and Shep.
And Beauregard! What a deliciously slimy, smarmy, charming villain! There's just something morbidly fascinating about a guy in a suit who calmly shoots people in the knees while smiling at them. I would totally love to see him get a book of his own. Preferably with another dude, but I'm not holding high hopes about that. I'd love to see him with another guy who expertly plays mind games too. And there should probably be lots of angry hate sex, or lots of seduction. And a HEA, but that's just the romantic in me speaking. The way things are going, I don't even know if the MC will leave him alive? IDK. he's one of my fav villains of all time though.
I don't know if this book can be read alone, because it is pretty strongly related to the previous book. I think you at least have to read the one before this to get a sense of what's going on.
But even if you don't I think this book deserves all the love, because Shepherd and Pretty Boy deserve all the love.
Hellbent Four Horsemen MC, Book 5 By: Sara Rayne Narrated by: Wen Ross
I loved this book, it is well written and well told. There is never a dull moment, the original storylines are interesting and engrossing from start to end. This is my first book written by Sara Rayne and it will not be my last. I loved the MC club she created, the club dynamics and the camaraderie amongst those in the club. This book is the 5th book of a series but it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone without feeling like you missed anything. Characters from earlier books do make appearances but any back story you need to know is included so you never feel lost or that you missed something. Meeting those characters made me want to know more about them and I will definitely be getting their books soon. I guess you can say I am an overnight fan of this author and series. Back to Hellbent, Shep is the club’s Vice President, I liked this guy, he has a good heart and is a stand-up guy. Noah, five years younger is a prospect and he and Shep have history and share a bond. Their story and their relationship is a special one, it was nice to find out their history and what brought them together. There is so much depth and emotions to their story. I thought they were perfect for each other, once they rid the demons of the past. I highly recommend this book, there is plenty of drama, angst, twists, some laughs and some hot M/M romance. I loved the ending, how you kept it real, the turmoil of wanting to come out, the reactions and then the acceptance and how everyone did the right thing. Sara Rayne, thank you for this great story and the emotional rollercoaster
I listened to the Audible edition, Wen Ross is a fabulous narrator and voice performer. He brings the story and it’s characters to life, gives them their voices and personality, as well as heart and attitude. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen🎧
This was the first book I have read on same sexual relationship and I honestly loved every minute of this book. I have been in love with these characters since I read the first book. Shep. Has been one of my favorite characters since the beginning of this series. I am so happy he found his happiness. Thank you for a great read. You and your sister rock. On to axel.
This was my first time reading an MC romance and I have to say that I really did enjoy the story. There were a couple of terms that I had no clue what they meant but I just went with the flow but it would have been nice to have it spelled out even for the first time being used in the book. One other tiny thing that was mildly irritating was the repeated use of "Pretty Boy" in the story, I get that it was his nickname but I guess it just felt overused at some points. Besides that, I loved the story between Shep and Pretty Boy, it was very believable and I couldn't help feeling for them and what they were going through keeping it from the MC, especially Shep (ie. lots of angst and turmoil which I happen to love in my romances). I loved that the author kept the action going right up until the end, I was desperately trying to figure out how she was going to get the MCs out of their predicament and she didn't disappoint. Very well written, I will definitely read more by Sara Rayne.
4.5 Crowns Book 5 in the Four Horseman MC series. Each book covers different members as they tackle their personal lives, but with a continuing storyline that runs in the background of each read. I therefore recommend reading the books in the order they were written to enhance your feel for the club and the very different members that make it up.
Shepherd is the VP of the Four Horseman and the one that everyone turns to in their time of need. He is the clubs voice of reason and the balance of calm needed in the club at times. He carries people’s secrets and the advice he gives is always from the heart. But who shoulders his secrets, the turmoil he lives with and the truth and guilt that consume him and could cost him the club that he fought so hard to be part of?
Pretty Boy is a prospect in the Four Horseman MC for one reason… Shep! He needs to prove himself to the man that saved his life; that he was worth everything he lost as a consequence. But how can he ever pay back a man that sacrificed his whole life one dark night many years ago. Never one for labels, he is happy with who he is, with the burning attraction he has for his VP. But will the loyalty he has for the club and his loyalty to the man ever be enough to make what they want okay in the biker world that they live in?
I have to say that this book is the one I have waited for since the end of book 1, Sweet Perdition. Yes, this is a collective series about an MC, so lots of characters pop up throughout. Shep, however, is a real integral part in each member’s story, and throughout the first 4 books we were given glimpses of the secret Shep holds close and the effects that has on him. I was seriously feeling for this man a long time ago, wanting a happy ending for him, such is his kindness and the heart and loyalty he has for his brothers; none more so than Pretty Boy. The relationship they have runs deep and goes back many years. There is lots of guilt, buckets of attraction and a reciprocated loyalty that is undeniable.
This book was everything I hoped for and a bit more. It had the grittiness and politics that coming out in an MC would create, but it also had an emotional, often difficult and complicated love story between 2 damaged men. I fell in love with Shep even more, and loved Pretty Boy for his determination to make Shep happy in his own skin for the first time in his life.
A fantastic addition to a really good MC series. Rolling onto the next, I can’t get enough of this club and its member’s complex lives.
The story here is good and mostly concurrent with the previous book, plus some more advancement in the series arc. This is a series that doesn't lend itself to skipping books... you'll miss out on things if you do.
I have had this on my reader for a while along with book 6, waiting for more books to come out. This is Isaac 'Shepherd' Rollins and Noah 'Pretty Boy' Blake's story. It's about a couple if gay guys and their unrequited love due to the supposed hetero attitudes in the MC, which turn out to be more open-minded than Shepherd has assumed.
A lot of the past gets dragged up and the emotional toll of their childhoods is a heavy weight.
I actually liked this book more than I thought I would, but I graded this book down from 4 stars because there are quite a lot of typos and some poor grammar usage. I also thought the cover wasn't very good (which matters little on an e-reader, but still). Pretty Boy is supposed to be hot, and I think the guy on the cover... is not.
I am lucky to say I received this as an ARC. Here is my honest review: This is the one book I've been waiting for ever since I read book one. I've loved all the books in this series, but I knew that Shep and Pretty Boy were going to be special. I was not disappointed. Hellbent made me go through every emotion (the trademark of a fantastic book). I laughed at some parts, cried, got angry, and fell in love. There is something amazing and beautiful about a love so true that even with every denial and roadblock, love still prevails. Although each book in the series is a standalone, I recommend reading the entire series.
i have been wanting this book to arrive for ages i was desperate to read it. purely because i have loved both shep and pretty boy from the previous books in the series. this book does not disappoint it is full of agst regret guilt and to an extent shame it tells a story of awakening and acceptance,.most parts are beautifully written it is poignant and in parts downright hilarious. no spoilers from me. just a warning for gramma junkies it could have been edited a bit better. overall it is still a fabulous book and well worth the read even if you are straight. you can still apreciate the book
I have enjoyed reading the Four Horsemen MC books but this one I had problems with it. I guess I am not into men having sex with other men. I am not a homophobe I just don't want to think about it. Cut out the sex scenes and it would be perfect. So why did I give this book 5 stars? Because I enjoy Sara Rayne's books. Just because I don't like her aspects of the book doesn't mean it is a bad book.
This is a strange review I know. But, I am looking forward to the next book!
This is the first book I have read from this author and the first in this genre. I found Ms. Rayne's storyline to be highly emotional and allows you to feel all of the love, devotion, and anguish of Shep and Pretty Boy's relationship. The story moves at a steady pace and provides a cast of well-developed complex characters. Even though this is Book 5 of the series, the story was easily read as a standalone.
I rarely read books about same sex relationships, but since I had read all the other books in this series, I was already invested in the story and the characters. Ms. Rayne handled this story with the same insight and sensitivity as in her other books. The angst and emotions were the same. I liked that love always wins. This was a good book and a great story.
Such a great book! I love a good MC series and this one really delivers. This 5th book in the series was a M/M story and I really enjoyed it. Very well written. Loved how the characters were brought together and all the drama they went through before finally getting their happy ending. I definitely recommend reading!
I usually like more traditional romance. I only read guy on guy when it's out of a series from an author I like. But despite this being way non-traditional, I absolutely loved Shep and Pretty Boy. If you like the others in the series, you'll love this story. It's actually my favorite so far.
I have been waiting on Shep's story. He's always helping everyone else so I wanted to see him get a happy ending after years of doing for others. I didn't anticipate the MC taking his confession so badly though. I can't stand Beauregard.
This was the first M/M MC book I’ve read and was a little worried it wasn’t going to go well considering the MC books are always big buff Alpha bikers. How this book put all those worries aside it is a true testament to the talent of Sara that the balance was spot on!!! Very well written by Sara.
