Nanami Momozono is alone and homeless after her dad skips town to evade his gambling debts and the debt collectors kick her out of her apartment. So when a man she's just saved from a dog offers her his home, she jumps at the opportunity. But it turns out that his place is a shrine, and Nanami has unwittingly taken over his job as a local deity!
Tomoe has made up his mind—he can’t have a happily ever after with Nanami as a yokai, so he’s going to become a human! But things don’t go as planned when he drinks the water of evolution, and now he’s stuck in fox form! The only way he can turn back is with the help of the kami Ôkuninushi in Izumo, so he and Mikage set off on a road trip. Nanami is supposed to stay behind at the shrine, but she wants to be with Tomoe to give him support. But what should have been a simple shortcut to Izumo turns into a frightening ordeal when Nanami runs into one of Akura-oh’s henchmen!

We’re finally entering Akura-Oh’s arc, and I absolutely hate it here 😭😭😭 Because Kirihito selfishly took away so much of Nanami’s energy life, Nanami is now weak and her life is probably being cut short 💔💔💔
I bawled my eyes out when Nanami sets her mind to live the rest of her short life protecting Tomoe as much as she can 😭😭😭 The fact that Tomoe and Mizuki (and the rest at Mikage shrine) haven’t had a clue as to what’s happening to Nanami breaks my heart 💔😭 WE NEED TOMOE IN HIS AYAKASHI FORM BACK SO THAT HE CAN MURDER STUPID KIRIHITO AND GIVE BACK NANAMI’S LIFE ENERGY
- Once again, I have to say: I am so sick of Tomoe being stuck as a fox. I am so sick of Yatori's BS. And I'm sick of things never turning out right for my favourite characters T_T
- This was a bit of a boring volume. At times. Often. I mostly just screamed in frustration a lot.
- Nanami's reaction when she sees Daidaimaru all grown up is hilarious. The drawing of her face was on point. Also, I totally thought Daidaimaru was a girl for a sec lol.
- I. HATE. YATORI. AND HE STOLE OKUNINUSHI-SAMA'S SOUL AND NOW TOMOE IS STUCK AS A DAMNED FOX AND THINGS ARE NOT ADVANCING IN THE PLOT EXCEPT THAT THEY ARE BUT NOT IN THE WAY I WANT.
- I died laughing during the scene where basically a rabid crowd of tengus is screaming about whether Nanami is "pure" or not. Ahhh XD Nanami's face during that entire ordeal was golden. ('_') aND Jiro's reaction (very shook) when he hears that Nanami's betrothed to Tomoe. Priceless. Jiro: I TOLD Y'ALL SHE WAS PURE. SHE IS A FINE SKY MAIDEN I TELL YA. Jiro: ... Jiro: She...is engaged to her fox-yokai shinshi... Jiro: XP <---- (this is Jiro's dead face)
- Okay. So. It's crazy that Nanami's gonna die. Like... Me: ??? .... !!! ?!?! And she has to decide whether or not to live on Mount Kurama and whether or not to tell everyone about her condition... So far, all she's done is declare her love for Tomoe to the entire tengu tribe, which isn't really answer.
- Kirihito's mom is the bomb.com. She straight-up slapped Akura oh-sama across the face and strangled an evil-ass yokai with no hesitation whatsoever. All she cares about is protecting her son, and let me tell you: she is the most admirable character in this entire series xD Unfortunately...she's dead now. Not even Queen Mama Bear herself can get away with messing with our resident psychopath, Yatori. That little piece of @#$%^&*! Yet alone another reason to hate the crap out of that damned furball.
Well, this was a little bit better than the previous one because the stakes are definitely higher but it’s still just mid. There are some plotpoints in this volume that I’m just not a fan of but of course there are still good things… otherwise it wouldn’t be Kamisama Kiss.
First of all, something that I do like is Nanami’s plotline. I think her having only 6 months to live really raises the stakes. I do think that they will find a solution for her to be okay but right now it does make me a little nervous… especially because Tomoe doesn’t know about it.
I also really like what Akura is doing in this one. I like that he really cares for his fake mom and is trying to reassure her that he is okay. Also I love that he is telling Yatori to leave her be… I think it shows that he is growing as a person. Oh and I love that he prefers Kikuichi over Yatori… that's amazing and I hope he completely turns on Yatori by the end.
And now what I don’t like about the volume… fucking Yatori. This furball is fucking insane. It literally has 2 personalities and is trying to be second only to Akura. He is insane and I hate what he did to Nanami and I hate what he did to Kirihito’s mom. I want him dead and I genuinely want Akura to kill him as soon as he gets his body back.
Also Tomoe is still a fox and I don’t like that. I want my hot white-haired yokai back.
Anyway, the volume is fine but I just need more. I want a more interesting plotline and less Yatori because he is horrible and I hate him. I also still have hope that Tomoe and Akura can be friends again because that would be awesome. I’m giving it 3 stars.

We back! Volume 20 was still a bit wonky, it felt a little too convenient and i felt Tomoe has to keep proving himself for no reason. Here Nanami finally seems to have taken the steps (again......) to realize her feelings and have some personal growth. We had a super high peak which i praised and then took a huge step back into the other direction. We finally got the character growth we deleted in the last few volumes back. Also some events occurred in this volume which got me really intrigued about further developments and the ending! Also i don't want it to end now. I am back on the hypetrain.
So sad. I felt this particular volume was extremely slow paced. And, I'm frustrated again by Nanami's inability to use common sense. She ought to know enough by now to realize that if Mikage wants her to stay at the shrine, it's not because he doesn't like her, it's because he wants her to be safe. I have to say though, I'm happy with the way Jiro has developed. I started out really disliking him, but now, he's one of my favorites!
So Tomoe wants to become human to be with Nanami. (Right now he is a fox and is seeking out someone to return him to normal.) But we find out that Nanami’s life force has been drained by Akura-oh she only has 6 months to live. I can imagine all the drama that will occur when Tomoe - and Mizuki - find out the truth. It was cool to see some of the older characters in this volume. It’s so sad that Nanami is choosing to spend her remaining time with Tomoe than try to prolong her life. She always has so much pride in being human. Also guys, Yatori is so creepy. Can’t wait for the next volume.

dang this was a pretty sad volume it is going to be so tragic when tomoe and mizuki find out the cover is really good WAY better than the last one it was nice to see surio and that whole gang again wow kirhito really sucks and the fact that he is akura-oh is wild but makes sense i hope he fails spectacularly for shortening nanami’s life span very cute moment between nanami and fox tomae at the end soulmates for real yatori sucks fr too

I'm going to leave the same review for all the volumes. I LOVED this manga so much and am trying to collect all the physical copies. I was originally reading it online when it was still coming out
There are a lot of characters. Only some are the main characters, but we see and get to know the side characters also. World building was nicely done in typical youkai fashion, and the romance was very cute
Yatori tries to kill Nanami, but she disguises herself as Akura-Oh. He sees through her disguise and Jiro comes to her rescue. Jiro wants Nanami to stay at the Kurama village due to the fact that she only has six months to live. If she leaves the village she will surely die, but she won't be able to see Tomoe again.

BEST ROMANCE EVER. THE STORY COULD BE SO BASIC BUT THE WAY THE AUTHOR WRITES THE TWO CHARACTERS IS AMAZING. The way Tomoe was always in love with Nanami is crazy, I love a full circle ending. This is the best romance manga I’ve ever read I don’t care if this is a biased review or whatever, I’m right.
Yatori u dumb stupid b*tch!! He’s literally become the main villain while i was thinking that it was gonna be akura-ou🤦♀️ AND IM SO WORRIED ABOUT NANAMI’S SITUATION RIGHT NOW PLEASE SOMEONE HELP MY INNOCENT BABY Also fox tomoe is everything. Nanami buying a pet brush hoping it’ll make him feel more comfy??? sir that’s true love right here😩✋✋ I ship nanami and tomoe so hard their moments together make my heart ache ughhh🥺💓 Lastly, kirihito’s mom deserved better!! Poor woman🥲
The volume in which Naname doesn't follow directions (again), the tough and rough Jiro makes an adorable reappearance, and Yatori goes off the deep end. The sadness part was the devastating news revealed. I have no idea how that will be resolved but I hope something happens to change it.
God she really is stupid. If being around impure/corrupt air will accelerate her demise, she absolutely can’t go to Yomi... sigh. I know the whole message has been about what it means to live as a “human,” but I kinda hope that she becomes a true god somehow... maybe after she dies?

Oh my gosh Kuramoro is back! And not the way I expected! This is getting better but I feel so bad for Nanami! I hope she can be saved because I want her and Tomoe to be together! I wonder if Kirihito will learn from her ways and give back what he took from her. I hope so!
Ahhh I know the series coming to an end and I'm not ready for it to be over! Every volume is filled with more drama than the last. It's hard to savor the ending when I'm so curious to see how it'll all come together.
The story keeps getting better and better but I’m tired of crying!!!! Why so much sadness lately??! Not mother!!!! I freakin HATE Yatori!!! He’s the one we will have to worry about not Akura-Oh…
But lol at the tengu arguing about Nanami’s “purity”…
Wow, the tension is really building and I'm super curious as go how the story will now go ~end. This is as far as I had gotten with the series when I had read it online in middle school! I'll be super sad to see it end!
4 stars because it's getting kind of irritating that nanami still resorts to white talismans in times of danger it's been 21 volumes I feel that there should be some progress here. I get that mentally she's progressed but power wise, there must be more than talismans🧍♀️
