Lucius is finally feeling confident with his place in his pack. His new alpha and inner circle are fair and kind, and everything his abusive ex-leaders were not. Learning about the world beyond pack lands, Lucius takes online courses to earn his GED, planning to focus further studies in botany. Everything changes when his pack takes in a dozen Angus shifters rescued from a herd in Texas. One of the rescuers who accompanies the shifters is a vampire that makes Lucius’s blood sing. Gypsum Vereen. While Lucius can’t deny his attraction to the male, he’d given up sex when the new alpha took over. His old inner circle had made the act nothing but degrading and painful, and he never wants to experience that again. When Gypsum speaks of making love, can he dredge up enough faith to take a chance and learn the difference?
Reader This novel contains references to past rape.
Richards is seriously losing her touch. Phoning these in. There should be a penalty for overuse of the word "critter". Not romantic. Not funny. Not cute.
This is book 7 in Charlie Richards Loving Nip Series. Most of Charlie’s worlds are linked in some way and in this one we see Vampires and Shifters co-mingling. In book 6 we met a herd of Angus shifters who were being bullied by their alpha into mating. They were secluded from the world and only recently have been released from torture. Gypsum is a vampire and part of the coven that rescued these guys. He’s taking a contigent of them seeking asylum to Kai and Dorian’s pack of dingo shifters who are being healed from their abusive alpha.
Lucius is one of the dingo shifters that was abused, sexually. He has no desire to mate or even have sex as his past experiences were so horrible.
When Gypsum realizes Lucius is his mate and what he’s been through he vows to be patient and do all he can to convince Lucius that mating is wonderful.
Meanwhile the crazy Angus Alpha escapes and heads to Dorian’s pack to take back his members forcibly and Gypsum must defend them.

Like most of Charlie’s books this is a short love story that moves them quickly from strangers to mates. Gypsum is a gentle giant and patiently helps Lucius recover his sexuality.
I love seeing the past MCs and the feeling of connectedness we get as each story moves the timeline forward not just for the current MCs but for the entire group of “friends” that we’ve made by reading her stories.
These guys feel like friends of the family and I love checking in with them and meeting new members.
I can see Lucius’ brothers in upcoming books – they seem like a sassy and fun pair!
The Loving Nip series is sweet and fun and I highly recommend it to fans of the author and the genre.
Aaaand she did it again :D Thanks for another lovely story, Charlie!
Back then when I read Aryen's story, I wanted to know more about the other three dingoes. Here we finally get Lucius story, and it was just as shocking and heart-wrenching as Aryen's when I found out what he had to go through in the past. He's seriously messed up and doesn't want a mate because he's afraid of having sex. Understandable.
Gypsum (what a cool name)is the perfect guy. He's so gentle, and the way he helped and supported Lucius was heart-warming. I wanted to cuddle my kindle when
No phrases used excessively in this one. But Gypsum is a little too proper speaking for me. And have to give kudos for being more than willing to let Lucius be in the drivers seat.
I really liked this addition to the series. Gypsum (vampire) finds his mate, Lucius (Dingo) and their interaction with each other was absolutely precious. I love how Gypsum was very patient with his mate in getting to know him on every level. Some of the issues from the previous book are addressed in this one, with some bad alphas still wondering around. The plot flowed smoothly, and I hope to see more of these characters in future tales. =)
I liked this book. So much that I didn't mind the use of "critter" at all(call me twisted). I didn't mind the length. I honestly hate authors that let a book drag on without any substance or plot. What I hated? The abrupt ending! Oh they irritate me so much. Why do authors do this? No amount of "leave them wanting more" will ever convince me. In fact I don't think I want any more. I got invested and that ending just felt like the rug was pulled from under me.
This was cute and possibly my second favourite from this series so far. An abuse shifter meets his golden retriever vampire mate who will do anything to show him love.
I know this isn’t the best series every written.. it’s very insta lovey and has plot holes but I have a fun time reading these.
Wow. Iwas actually falling asleep trying to read this book. It. was. so. boring. Not one interesting or romantic or sexy thing happened in this entire book! Gypsum is a vampire who meets his dingo shifter Lucius while visiting a hodge podge shifter pack. Both of the characters in this book were mind numbing and they had zero personality. The way they spoke was formal and awkward..gypsum especially. Their relationship was super blah. As a reader I felt completely uninspired by their "love"... lucius was sexually abused but instead of using that as a point of conflict it was just kind of a background fact. Their relationship Just stayed flat. .. it never got to a simmer let alone a boil. It was just nothing. And on top of everything else. . despite gypsum's odd speaking style at one point he uses the word "hella" and it just makes everything that much more awkward. .. how can he go from formal to slang then back to awkward? lol Some couples really shouldn't have their own book. ... oh well hopefully the next will be better.
So - I am thinking this is about where Charlie's stories started to lose some of the detail in plot. I could be wrong - this was still a good story, just not as . . . evolved? On a major re-re-read of the Stone Ridge world. I usually enjoy Charlies' short stories and novellas (the occasional one is a clunkier) but I have found that the best way to read them is to series binge and read them in the recommended reading order for the 'world' instead of by series. This gives a much more satisfying read with a more consistent plot line and world. Even the clunkers become acceptable as a small part of the whole. The characters are still good, and as usual Charlie uses stereo types with skill and develops characters indirectly. The only characters that develop depth are those who appear and then reappear frequently.
I loved this book Gypsum who is a vampire, who has just found his mate. A mate that is scared of him. You have Lucius a Dingo shifter who is scared of being touched in any way except when he is in his Dingo form. He has been abused saving his brothers from the same fate. Will Gypsum be able to show his Dingo that he doesn’t want to hurt him, that he want to love his mate? Will Lucius be able to let go and love Gypsum back? You’ll have to read and find out.
Gypsum was a dick. Did he really care about Lucius at all or just getting a piece of ass? I'm sorry, but if you find out your mate has been sexually abused for years and you STILL try and weasel your in and joke about showing him some pleasure you're a dick.
Lucius came around too quick. All it took was a little talking about Gypsum's life for you to want sex? Yeah. Okay.
Yes I know past abuse is not so easily overcome, however, that's the point of fated mates, and romance. The past abuse is mentioned without details but if the idea of it triggers you, skip this one. I love that brave Lucius faced his fears and will now be loved and protected by his big sexy vampire.
That's all really, vampires & dingoes... Cute quick read but the past trauma would not ever be cured overnight. Nice to revisit some other characters in previous books too.
The name of one of the main characters was Gypsum. Naming characters after minerals used as fertiliser was probably about the most interesting thing about this book.
