Great end to the series. Overall, as I stated in an earlier review, this was one of the best Manga series I've ever read. This final volume was very suspenseful, as the team tries to make its escape from the isolated school with hordes of zombies as well as the horrifying "boss creature" trailing them. It felt very much like the final battle of the video games, with that same frantic, thrilling vibe.
Without getting into spoilers, I'll just say the team doesn't escape unscathed, and I was a little upset about it. Also, the identity of the person responsible for the entire incident is finally revealed, and let's just say it's a character very familiar to Resident Evil fans. The series leads directly into the Resident Evil 6 video game, which I haven't played but plan to eventually.
Overall, I would recommend this manga series to any Resident Evil fan for sure. It's a must read for fans. Even if you aren't a Resident Evil fan, if you enjoy zombie stories with plenty of suspense, action and horror, with great art, pick this series up. The only bad thing about it was that it had to end!
I have made it to the final book in this series! Gotta say, I was pretty impressed. I went into this series, being a huge fan of the "Resident Evil" video game series, not expecting too much with these graphic novels. I think what these graphic novels did was make you care about these characters. With the video games, you do care for some of the characters, but you don't really know them as well as you would like. Writer Naoki Serizawa crafted a well told story that's about a zombie outbreak at a prestigious Asian boarding school and developed quite a number of characters that you care about. When certain people died, I was genuinely shocked. Something else Naoki Serizawa did was have compelling villains. In the "Resident Evil" games, the villains, for the most part, are one dimensional and flat. Not that that's a bad thing. I love villains like Wesker and Alfred (and even the anti-heroes like Ada and Jake). But you don't really know anything about them. With these graphic novels, the villains are actually compelling and have reasons for their motivations. And their motivations are quite tragic and I found myself sympathetic. Also, this series didn't rely on using franchise favorites to tell the story. "Resident Evil" fan favorite Chris Redfield is barely in this series until the final 2 books. The story is mostly through the point of view of Ricky and his uncle, Doug. This series can stand on it's own from the video games. There's not an overabundance of backstory. You can head right into this series with no previous knowledge of the games. Now, there is a big character reveal at the very end of book 5 that might be meaningless if you've not played the games, but other than that, there's nothing confusing.
A few minor issues I had: there's nothing particularly bad about the artwork. It has a very traditional manga style and flow. But sometimes I would be a bit confused about what was going on in any given panel, especially the big, action packed scenes where blood or guts would be flying, or bullets being shot off. Sometimes it could be a bit overwhelming in one shot that wouldn't be explained very well. And my last minor issue is mostly just a connective thing. These series is promoted as being a prequel to "Resident Evil" 6. Maybe I just don't remember "RE6" that well, but I'm not sure what exactly was the connective tissue between book to game. I guess the virus? A new strain of virus is introduced and I think that's what carries over to "RE6."
Overall, I really enjoyed this graphic novel series for a game series that I love. It was fun, intense, gory, and emotional. And I think there was a really well told story in there. Sometimes the games can feel a bit all over the place, going from location to location, but I think the graphic novels were very focused by staying at the school and focusing on the characters there. If you enjoy the "RE" games, I recommend checking out this series.
The last volume to the prequel of the Resident Evil 6 game.
On the run to get to their one chance to escape Marhawa everyone must fight to survive against incredible odds. Like the last book this is an action packed zombie killing festival but although most of the book is about fighting undead hordes it also helps us feel for the protagonist doing their best regardless of being dragged in to a situation way out of control (and thus requiring the need to kill swarms of undead.) However sometimes sacrifices have to be made so if you have been reading up to this point by all means take in the body count and watch how each tragedy causes the survivors to react. My only regret is this is simply an explanation leading up to the game so if you want to see what happens next you will have to play yourself or find a video with the game so you can get some closure. :)
Good series overall. Piers doesn't even need a shower after all that. He could splash some water on his face and just go about his day. Why'd he even come with? I'm glad he did, but.. Anyway, I liked it.
Hanya saja, novelnya sangat sulit diperoleh... Atau aku yang kurang rajin berburu? Huaaaaaahhh........
Hehee ^^
Resident Evil: The Marhawa Desire was a pretty good series. The story wasn't as exciting as the stories in the video game series but it still held my attention and was very entertaining. It was good to see characters like Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans return. The manga does take place before the Resident Evil 6 video game so you get to see a little bit more of their relationship. New characters like Doug and Ricky were refreshing. Even though I did start off thinking that Ricky was going to be a very annoying character, but as the story progressed I found him more and more likeable. It would be really funny and cool to see Ricky show up in one of the next video games alongside Chris.
The story definitely had a Resident Evil vibe to it. Starting off with not knowing what was going on and then slowly learning more facts and tying everything together. I really enjoyed the flashback scenes of why everything was happening. Which was actually kind of sad and I felt pity for the monsters. And of course just like any Resident Evil video game, you have the monster that just won't die and keeps showing up inconveniently.
There is also a character from Resident Evil 6 who makes a little cameo in The Marhawa Desire as well, which was very cool to see. You'll definitely know who it is by Volume 3.
Uhh I'll mark this as a spoiler since there's a death spoiler and about who's the 'hooded woman' so heads up!!
rest in peace Merah you were such a diva 💔 I love you girl you will be missed. Also I was NOT expecting Ada to be the hooded woman oh my gosh that's crazy. My jaw dropped. I loved this series I was just bummed out that the last female character I liked ended up dying. I loved Merah and honestly the only other characters I liked were Ricky, Chris, and Piers. Other than that I loved this series it was fun to read ^^

Conclusion to the series, though it does end in a way that leads to one of the games.
This was an awesome series to read and really lived up to the RE universe. I correctly guessed who the hooded woman was, but it's not much of a surprise. Haha.
A bitter sweet ending to a really nice story. I was rooting throughout this one. And I must say it was good to have read them all in ago. Questions were answered and the last sentence was nice to read. Would recommend if you‘re a Resident Evil Fan + you‘re into this sort of setting.
