Maybe I just picked this one up at the wrong time but, though I tend to force my way through every book I take on, I just couldn't force myself to get past 45% of Game On. The cheesy characters, the lackluster plot, and the relatively uneventful story line all came together to make this novel a particularly difficult one for me to finish.

One of the main reasons I couldn't force my way through this novel, despite it's measly 152 pages, was how completely ridiculous the whole story line was. This book uses every cliche ever created and doesn't even use them well. I was cringing at nicknames such as "Legs" and "Fingers". The second reason I had trouble with Game On was that Susannah was the absolute worst spy I've ever read about. She blows her cover within minutes, she's sleeping around with the enemy, and I just couldn't take anything about her seriously.

However, I could have lived with everything above if it hadn't been for the writing. The writing itself was what really brought this novel down and made me give it the rating I did. Impersonal and removed the writing offered no real insight into the characters and I felt like the author was telling me what was happening rather than showing me. Even though some of the plot twists were interesting I just couldn't get pulled into the story because I felt like I was watching from the sidelines, rather than living the story with the characters.

That's not to say that the whole story was bad, there were some enjoyable moments throughout, I enjoyed the tongue in cheek dialogue and the exotic locations. Though the plot twists were pretty easy to spot I still enjoyed the idea behind the premise and Zackman had some good ideas, though they just weren't executed in way that made me fall in love with this book.

Overall Game On just wasn't my cup of tea, though I can understand how it would appeal to those looking for a lighthearted action/romance.

*I received a copy of this novel in exchange for a free and honest review.

This fun and quirky debut book was written by the very talented woman/actress/goddess who narrates my audio books. In other words, this is a very biased review as she has become a very good friend. I enjoyed reading this story - it's a mystery/thriller/romantic comedy and the series is called the Bod Squad, which is a tongue in cheek reference to the Mod Squad. It's not very long so it's a quick read and perfect for your summer holiday (for those in the northern hemisphere). It's in eBook format only right now and is the first in a series. And Gabra said she working on the audio edition and recruiting some of her friends to help - that should be fabulous and I know I'll be downloading that as well!

Game On by Gabra Zackman is modern female spin version of a James Bond/Ocean's Eleven movie. This book was fun, witty, sexy, and fast-paced. With Zackman's integration of humor and sass, this book was a fun read. When you have characters that are fun and engaging, you can't help but be immersed into the story line as you follow Susannah "Legs" Carter and her team as they track down Charles Oakley Palmer III. Her mission was simple. All she had to do was to get Charles but that came to an abrupt halt when she soon finds herself attracted to him. The tables have turned and a new game has begun when they soon finds themselves working together. So let the games begin? Its game on for Legs.

I thought this book was a fun book to get lost in the craziness and antics of the undercover and criminal world. Ms. Zackman's writing was light, fun and entertaining. I will definitely be keeping my eye out on future works of Gabra Zackman.

Legs is an undercover operative looking to bring down white-collar criminal Chas Palmer. From the moment she meets Chas, she feels a connection unlike anything she’s felt before. Will she get the job done or will her heart get in the way?

I really loved this fast paced, suspenseful, romantic comedy. GAME ON had all the elements I love in a book. The characters were sharp mouthed and witty and the plot was suspenseful and twisty. Legs was the perfect female character to read about.

“What, Bee? That I’m so weak and vulnerable? That I’m not “too much”? That I’m not really as strong as I play? That’s a bunch of bullshit and you know it. I’m every bit as strong as I play, and I want someone who wants that. I want someone who can meet me eye to eye. I want someone who is as strong and as brave as I am! I mean, god, are there no fucking men anymore? What the fuck!” . . . “Here’s the thing: I want what everyone else has. I want to meet my match, and marry him, and love him till the day I die. I just. . .” “I guess I just hope he exists. Somewhere on this earth.”

GAME ON is a suspenseful romance about finding love in all the wrong places and I am so excited to dive into the next book in the series. While GAME ON does have a good ending, there are still some strings left to be tied.

As I first started reading Game on I was really irritated by the cheesiness and improbability of the story but as the "plot thickened" it was so over the top I couldn't help but find myself enjoying it more and more.

Legs gets herself into trouble over a man and struggles to fight her way out. She enlists the help of her team and a long-time personal friend to figure it all out. I hope that the next book in the series focuses on my two favorite characters Bod Squad team members, Lisa Bee and Jackson.

A little intrigue, a little sex and plenty of high-tech gadgets. It was James Bond meets Stephanie Plum. Actually I was reminded of the Fox and O'Hare Series series by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg and am looking forward to the next installment.

Recommended for anyone who loves romantic comedies.

Oh, my gosh - what a fun read! I spent the entire day reading this book and would love to be starting book 2 in the series (if it were available). There are few books I read that I enjoy from start to finish. Most are good in parts, but not all the way through! Game On was a great beginning to a series. Susannah, the main character, is fabulous - I loved her and I'm sure the series is going to be every bit as good as the first book in the series. Enjoy, everyone!

Fun and funny, I absolutely loved this book. It grabbed me from the first page and kept me engaged until the very last page. It follows the tale of Susie, an undercover operative, as she investigates someone with connections to some very shady characters. Despite this, she feels an intense attraction to him. What follows is a madcap caper that will keep you engaged. I was sorry when it ended and am already looking forward to book 2. I have added Gabra Zachman to my must read authors' list.

Game On (The Bod squad #1) is Gabra Zackman’s first published book and also the first in her Bod Squad series. At a scant 152 pages, its a quick and very entertaining read and features characters in code names such as “Legs” and “Fingers”. I’m really impressed when an author can create such a great story and characters in so few pages and make it flow. What makes it work so well is that the story is filled with some great one liners and flirty, funny and sarcastic dialogue. The pages are also teeming with some super sexy and sultry scenes that you're sure to appreciate. This story was an absolute joy to read. Legs is smart, forthcoming ( okay, so not always good for a "intelligence agent"), and refreshingly vulnerable.

In Game On, the focus is on one Susannah “Legs” Carter, a woman who has very limited experience with romantic love. Her assignment is to find the evidence to nail one Chas Palmer for a string white collar crimes. When the two meet they find they are connected intellectually and physically - and by the same “work” goals. They flirt around the topic and show more than they should considering the nature of Susannah's assignment and the life that Chas lives. So, while the mystery is the main plot driver the story is really in the attraction between Susannah and Chas. Susannah is smart, forthcoming ( okay, so that's not always good for a "intelligence agent"), and refreshingly vulnerable. The author does a great job showcasing her personality and they seem like natural "soul mates". But, Miscommunication and mistakes are made adding that bit of angst that romance genre readers need. Also, the story is thick on secondary characters, both supporting and antagonizing either one or the other, or the both of them, adding to the intrigue and potential for the next story in this series.

I highly recommend Game On with a solid 4 star rating. It made for the perfect story to read between a couple of emotionally intense books alleviating my aching heart.

Game On is Gabra Zackman's debut book and what a debut it is! I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Susannah “Legs” Carter is one of those kick butt and maybe ask questions later kind of girls. She is smart, witty, charming, and knows how to handle just about any situation. She does find herself in some very interesting and sometimes very dangerous situations.

Her assignment is to get the "goods" on Charles Oakley Palmer III. The instant these two see each other there is an instant attraction. The heat between these two is HOT and steamy. Chas has a few secrets that he finds himself wanting to reveal to Legs but doesn't want to put her in harms way.

Susannah's team is awesome! The whole crew is intriguing and so darn creative. They all work well together because not only are they co-workers, they are friends too. This team has all kinds of fun gadgets to use in their investigations.

There is a lot of drama and suspense that kept me turning pages. Just about the time I thought everyone was safe and sound there is danger lurking around the corner. Ms. Zachman has done a great job with the storyline and created characters that are interesting and fun. There were scenes in Game On that had me laughing out loud.

I would say if Game On is an indication of Ms. Zackman's work we lucky readers are in for some entertaining stories from a great new author. I can't wait to read All in, the next book in The Bod Squad series.

If you enjoy a mystery with a steamy romance, some great drama and suspense, with humor thrown in the mix then you really need to go grab a copy of Game On now.

I was given the opportunity to read and review this great book so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you.

Susannah “Legs” Carter is an undercover operative. Her team specializes in white-collar crime. Her new mission is to infiltrate the life of Charles “Chas” Oakley Palmer III. He’s a suspect in many white collar heists. From the moment she meets Chas she knows she is in trouble.

Chas is looking for revenge. He wants to find the man who murdered his dad and the only way he knows how to do it is to play the part of a hacker for very bad people. When he meets Legs his whole world is turned. He likes her and he wants to get to know her better. Too bad they are playing for opposite teams.

~~

This was a fun read. It had sass, action, and sexy times. I thought Chas was a smooth operator and Legs was smart cookie. In addition, the rest of the ensemble were likable characters and they had chemistry. I’m hoping they all get their own story. Jackson and Lisa Bee are next!

Debbie's 2.5 Star Review

When I read the synopsis it intrigued me. A plot a little different than my normal reads and I saw it was a Romantic Comedy type and thought I hit the jackpot.

The book starts out with some humor and I love the relationship that Susannah had with her work partner Jackson. As I got deeper into the book I felt like I was reading a book that had a James Bond feel. I felt that there was possibly to many characters in the story. Certain points while reading the book I had to stop and look through my notes to try and figure out who was who. The plot was unique but some things felt a little to far-fetched and found myself rolling my eyes at times.

Chas Palmer was probably my favorite character in this book. I loved his sense of humor and I loved the twist she threw at the end with him. The book had some steamy parts and the dialogue between Susannah and Chas was good. Sadly this book just didn't really work for me. I think it is a case of it’s not you it’s me kind of thing. If you are looking for an action packed books that has tons of plot twists than you might want to check this one out.

Great Book!
This is a great book; this is the first book in The Bod Squad series by Gabra Zackman. This book kept me reading most of the night; it has it all romance, mystery, and humor. Susannah is and undercover operative and is known as “Legs”, her mission is to bring justice to Charles Oakley Palmer II a filthy rich sexy criminal. The problem is the minute she meets Charles she is attracted to him, and the more she is around him the faster she is falling in love with him. Charles has his own agenda. They need to trust each other or find a way to solve the case. The characters in this book are so funny, I loved them all and I can’t wait until the next book comes out, hopefully soon.

Bod Squad Book One.

Susannah “Legs” Carter is on the hunt for a super hacker that her team has identified as Charles Oakley Palmer III. When she literally stumbles into him outside the party he's hosting, the two fall into instant lust. After a scorching night together, Palmer flees to Paris and Susannah's team finds out he is involved with more dangerous men than they had originally thought. Now Susannah is determined to get the information from him and get out ASAP.

Audio Review: Full Cast Production
The author narrates this story with a full cast of characters, which gives each person a distinctive voice. The narration flows smoothly between each person, so there is no choppy separation in between.

If you're looking for a quirky investigative team on the hunt for white collar criminals, this is the story for you!

Game On
by Gabra Zackman
Game On is a modern twist to the spy/ under cover genre of books. The lead character is a woman that would make any of the Bond movies, known by the code name Legs; she goes undercover to solve ‘white collar crimes’. Using a cross between espionage technology and seductive skills Legs tries to get her man. This time was supposed to be no different, but the mark has an astounding effect on her. He changes the game, and she may have gotten into more than she can handle. Her cover is blown, her heart is thrown into turmoil, and her life is tossed to the wind. Can she recover her equilibrium, bring the bad guys to justice, and still get the guy. Your choice to see where this first book in a series called the Bod Squad will take you.

Game On was a quick fun read with suspense and sass all the way around.

Susannah, aka, Legs is out to bring the bad guy down. The bad guy is a sexy rich criminal that she can't help but want. Will Legs be able to stay away from Chas Palmer? Game On is the story of how a woman goes undercover to bring a man down, will her heart get caught in the crossfire? This is a great read for someone who is looking for something sassy and sexy yet different with having the heroine be the undercover operative. Game On was a fun read and completely different than what I'm normally used to reading. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series. I'm giving 3.5 sassy stars for Legs!

The perfect escape read. The characters are cleverly-drawn, witty and entertaining. "Game On" is a light-hearted romp in the spirit of a female-centric "Ocean's Eleven." But it goes even further with a very sexy romance intertwined with the central plot's capers.

When the book ended, I was thrilled to see that this book is just the first in a continuing series -- after spending time with "Legs," AJ, Lisa Bee, Jackson & Boss, I wanted more! Can't wait for more installments...

Ms. Zackman writes with great wit, intense passion and a sense that anything can happen. I'm so excited to read the next books in this series. I can't believe she's a first-time author! Absolutely spectacular!! Zackman's experience narrating romance novels clearly gave her a (sexy) leg up when writing in the genre. Her tongue in cheek humor pokes fun and celebrates the tropes of romance novels and her effortless writing whisks you on a fun and dare I say titillating adventure. In the middle of the next book in the series and it's just as good. Can't wait to finish the lot!!

Game on is the 1st book in the new series called the ( Bod Squad). The main character is Susannah Carter, nick named "Legs". She falls in love with the person that they're trying to capture and put in jail. This book is about a team of highly skilled undercover investigators that travel the globe to catch criminals. I feel it's a promising series with several interesting characters.

Debuting author Gabra Zackman, Game on was a quick read. Funny, romantic, crazy kind of stuff one would find in your early 20's. The story keeps you wondering what is going to happen next, who are friends and who are foes. Overall thought the story was ok had some laugh out loud parts.

GAME ON is a different and intriguing spy romance, but one I'm still not sure I really enjoyed.

Susannah Carter's most recent assignment has her getting close to gazillionaire CEO Charles "Chas" Oakley Palmer III to figure out his involvement in an international crime ring. Chas immediately figures out that Susannah is after him, but he's so intrigued by "Legs" that he decides to play along. The two are in an intricate dance that finds them both falling hard and fast for each other.

Susannah valiantly tries to maintain the objectives of her mission, and Chas desperately attempts to keep her at arms length, but the two of them can't seem to stay away from each other. Can Susannah's dream man give up his life of crime or is she destined for another broken heart?

GAME ON is the first book in the Bod Squad series, and I'm really not sure if I liked it or not. The name Chas evokes feelings of greasy prepsters with a penchant for whisky and trouble (sorry to all the dudes who use that moniker). I think the book was supposed to be a playful and funny parody of the international spy game, so I attempted to not take this read too seriously. That said, if Susannah is a top agent, I don't even want to know what a bad agent is like. She blows her cover within minutes of meeting her mark, and continues to make a mockery of her case. Meanwhile, Chas is supposedly this wildly intelligent hacker/computer guru...who doesn't know when his room is bugged or when he's being watched. His home security is less challenging than a supermodel ordering lunch.

Working on the suspicion that GAME ON is meant to be lighthearted and funny, I found the dialogue playful yet weirdly retro with a strangely cheesy vibe at times. Legs (and all of the female MC's) was pretty cool, both self-deprecating and funny and not afraid to look for love. Chas was different--a little Austin Powers-y, a little James Bond-ish, a bit Scooby-Doo-alicious. I'm not positive I enjoyed this overall book, but it wasn't one I necessarily wanted to throw in the pool when finished.

Bottom Line: (possible) tongue in cheek spy romance. Not awful but not a book that captured my attention enough to request any others in this series. - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

I liked the overall idea of the story, which drew me to the book but I never really felt the character’s connection. I felt like I was being told instead of letting things be felt or discovered. It felt overly fast paced to me and while I normally love multiple POVS, the switching back and forth so frequently was a bit confusing. I was excited to read a lighter, funny book but even the humor was off for me.

I’m sorry to say this one didn't do it for me.

This is a detective story featuring a motley crew of misfit operatives. Susannah "Legs" Carter is the main female protagonist.

This smacks more of romance novel than detective novel. Legs is second guessing her feelings all the time. There are some very bad, terrorist types and a revenge driven "hotie" that is keeping Legs hopping.

Although the humor of Jackson is a refreshing, the agonizing of Legs draws away from the action. Overall it was a good story but perhaps mis-characterized as a detective novel and might better be in the romance genre, well violence oriented romance.

A good start

So I really enjoyed the first part of the book. Susannah was a dangerous, independent woman that turned into a mush? The middle and end just didn't fit the beginning and it felt like two different books. Chas was good but he does things throughout that are contradictory to what is written. So the premise is good but I didn't really feel the story.
