Exploring the corners of life where love can grow in unexpected ways, this novel portrays the relationship of two women and a little girl whose lives become intertwined. This powerful love story features Dell, a woman whose childhood memory of a tragic wildfire haunts her dreams; Evvie, who has run far away from her family but continues to feel the ocean call; and Evvie's daughter, Luce, who finds comfort in the company of animals. Once Dell meets Patrick and follows him to Scotland, Evvie and Luce must struggle to fill the hole that Dell has left for them and Dell must learn how to make love work halfway around the world. This is a remarkable story about inexplicable love between friends, women, and adults and children.

A promising writer whose writing I was quite drawn to but was underwhelmed by the strenght of the story and the quality of the relationships.
