Can a homeless man teach a cynical single mom the meaning of Christmas?

Single mom, Sarah Wayne, is fed up to here, with Christmas—or what it has become. Her cynical view makes her anxious to escape all the ‘good cheer’ and quietly celebrate the holiday with her little girl, Molly.

But Molly has other ideas—starting with bringing an old homeless man, home for lunch. After all, Nick saved Molly from the mean boys at school, how can Sarah refuse lunch to Molly’s new hero?

Can a few simple acts of kindness really change the course of a person’s life? Do some people come into our lives for a reason? Some people think so. Sarah is about to find out.

I wish it was longer.

I would have given this short story a sixth star had Anita given me a little more back ground detail about the mother and her young daughter. As it was I loved this holiday story about a person who learns the true meaning of giving from complete stranger. I am only wondering if the mother is a widowed Scotti
and the stranger is an Army buddy of her late husband. But that's just me. Wonderful way to start my day Anita!

What strikes me most about Anita Rodgers' Nick?

The way all the characters reflect through Sarah, the main character, bringing her into an awareness of herself. Her 6-yr-old daughter (Molly), Nick, her brother (Michael), and even her co-worker (Ellen)--each holds a special place within Sarah's psyche. This concept brings her around to the truth Christmas holds for her.

The magic of the story left me with this feeling: we all have an impact on each other. Whether intentional or unintentional, it takes writing talent to convey that to the reader.

Well done quick read for Christmastime.

Discovering Christmas

What a wonderful heart warming book! I really enjoyed it! A hardened and cynical woman with a little girl Molly helps an old man Nick, but he doesn't just take a handout from her but rather works around her home shoveling snow off the sidewalk and cleaning and organizing the garage. But he also through her encounter with him, reminds her of the real message of Christmas. It's not just about what gifts you may get but what you can give. I highly recommend it to the reading community, and what great gift to give to your friends!

Truly the Christmas Spirit lives in this story.

Sara, a single parent, is tired, worn down, with no use for Christmas. When Molly, her delightful, sprite of a daughter, brings Nick, a homeless man, home for dinner concerns and changes of heart go hand in hand.

This story will pull at your heart strings and cause you to go hmmm. Good job Anita. Good job.

‘Nick,’ by Anita Rodgers is the perfect way to kick-start the Christmas season. This e-version short story explores love and goodwill living dormant, in fact, denied, within a young mother named Sarah. As is true for many adults, goodness is brought into focus for her through the eyes and innocence of her child, six-year-old Molly. Although Sarah’s supervisory skills are questionable if this story were taken literally, metaphorically Molly’s choice of a fifty-something-year-old homeless man named Nick as her best friend, sets a series of awakenings alive in Sarah. This is a story of acceptance without judgment, of warmth and compassion, and of the richness of giving and loving unconditionally. It is a story about the magic of the holiday season.

Rediscovering the real magic of Christmas

For those who are frustrated by the commercial side of Christmas, this short novel shows you the other side of this Holiday.

It's easy to be blinded by the lights on every street corner crying "Buy this or that!" but we need to remember that away from these lights, there are people suffering.

Those lacking a warm place away from the cold, those that have not eaten properly in a while and those dying alone.

Kindness must be present in our hearts and Souls every day of the year but when the Holidays come, we need to shine even brighter for others because in soothing the lives of others, we also soothe our own.

Anita Rodgers's book "Nick" made me cry in places but ultimately made me realize that giving of ourselves is the true gift of Christmas.

Thank you, Anita Rodgers, for this beautiful short story.
