Author Bio:
Once upon a time in the boot of Louisiana, a young girl made a mess of things and began writing dark poetry to cope. She often found herself daydreaming and creating stories in a far away land that didn't exist and was always out of her reach. Her mission was to move on, find love and a reason to believe in the beautiful things in life. She didn't expect to be counting her blessings daily for all that she has found since then. Her once dark poetry became colorful and bright—it became music. She found purpose and her make believe stories slowly vanished away. Her poetry also sat in the backseat, as more important things took priority. However, life can catapult you in the blink of an eye. A long forgotten coping mechanism of writing would once again become her escape. This time, though, she realized that this escape where she created stories was not a curse, but a gift. Embracing her voice, she breathes life into her characters and poetically weaves together stories for readers to enjoy. She is no longer the young girl who feared the unknown, but is stronger and has faith that beautiful things will always be in reach. She is married to her best friend, and is a mom to three beautiful daughters who are her favorite cheerleaders. She is excited to have the opportunity to share her love of writing with readers. The stories are fictional, but they are real to her. She has always felt things passionately and this new journey as an author is no different. She is no longer looking back, but looking ahead to this amazing adventure with all of you. She invites you to connect with her if you desire to do so.

'Meraki' as it states in the beginning of this vitality filled prose, says, "to do something with soul, creativity, or love..."

'Meraki' by Andrea Michelle is such a beautifully worded story of poems that bring to life the essence of what it means to be a human being. She has crafted each word, each sentence, each thought in the most precise of way as to lend the read an emotion that we all feel day-in and day-out throughout the banalities of life, by bring the story of love and hurt, heartache and passion all within the realms of our existence.

David Foster Wallace said, "Fiction's about what is it to be a human being."

This book does just that. If you read any poetry this year at all, read 'Meraki' by Andrea Michelle.
An excerpt:
I think everyone must face a
morning
in which they awake to an
unknown world...
and when you took your final sip
of consciousness last night
you said goodnight to the person
you use to be
and awoke into a dream,
like all you have lived before was never more
because, if you think about it,
dreams have no past to pull from, no previous story to guide your actions.
You simply continue on...

This book will stay with me, it is simply beautiful. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommend.

"I have in my mind a snapshot of your soul. I took it one day, a normal day, talking amongst friends. Nothing special. Nothing unusual. It happened in an instant and now it is framed, hung up on the walls of my mind. You were laughing at a joke. The strong, barking laugh you hate so much. Eyes so wrinkled, consumed with mirth, they nearly squinted shut. You looked at me and I saw you. The you I have always loved, a lover and a friend. If ever you find yourself lost, come back to me, I have seen who you are."

In Meraki, Andrea expertly writes what seems like my own experiences, losses, highs and lows into poetry that sharpens my own experience and memory.

Few gems worth reading

There were handful of stellar poems in here but I wish there were more! Poems speak at different wavelengths for different ppl though, so what I found irrelevant might not be so for others. Overall happy I gave it a shot!
