About the product: A masterful storyteller with the compassion of a physician, Luke paints a picture of Jesus as healer, full of mercy, forgiveness, and love. The Gospel of Luke features the lovely Magnificat, Mary’s love song to God, and the nativity story heard in Christmas pageants around the world. Luke emphasizes prayer as central to the life of faith and shares parables not heard in any other gospel, including the prodigal son and the good Samaritan. Join the journey with Luke with fifty days of scripture, meditations, and prayers written by dynamic spiritual leaders. A Journey with Luke is part of the 50 Day Bible series and an extension of The Bible Challenge, a global initiative to encourage daily engagement with the Word of God.
Whether you have a long-established daily spiritual discipline or you are considering starting one, this is a wonderful resource. The Gospel According to Luke is divided into 50 daily readings and each is accompanied by a short reflection, a question or two and a prayer. The reflections/questions/prayers are written by leading Anglicans worldwide and offer thought-provoking and fascinating interpretations on the day's lesson. Each day's reading takes between five and 10 minutes, making this an accessible spiritual discipline for even the busiest among us. (If you enjoy this, the publisher, Forward Movement, has a 50-day challenge for the other three Gospels, as well as the Acts of the Apostles.)
Though I am not an Episcopalian, this book was useful in providing perspectives about 50 segments of the Gospel of Luke (~half a chapter per "day") and included reflection questions and prayers, if desired. Though I read it a bit faster than 50 days, I appreciated that you could fit a segment into 5 or 10 minutes of your day and then could continue to reflect on the questions. I'm very curious to see the book for the Gospel of John now (the one I struggle with the most!).
Probably my favorite 50 Day Bible Challenge book yet. Luke wrote in such beautifully described detail, that as the reader, I could visualize events and interactions between Jesus and the disciples and all the other people with whom they interacted. It felt like Luke was telling us the story in vivid detail.
