This was pathetic!

Practically the entire book was unrealistic and filled with unnecessary information and drama. There really wasn't a plot, despite what the Synopsis suggests. "Michael is a warrior, a Green Beret, fresh out of the military. He suffers from PTSD and recurrent nightmares of his five tours in Afghanistan. Something in him fundamentally changes when he meets Emma." Michael is not a warrior, he is a possessive idiot with a dull personality, zero intelligence, and has absolutely no substance or reason to even be a character. He did not suffer from PTSD, or recurrent nightmares; the only time a nightmare was mentioned was in the first chapter, and never again was it ever specified or have an affect anywhere else in the story. There was no difference between his character during his time with or without Emma, he didn't grow, he didn't change—the Synopsis suggests he was struggling before Emma, and that she would become his saviour from his demons. Not the case at all. The only difference was that with Emma in his life he was now gettin' some. That's it.

Closer was clearly only written for the small minded people, people who can easily gush over a book and praise it all because there's a sex scene in almost every chapter—apparently that's all those people need in a book, unsentimental and crude sex. Every sex scene was unemotional, crass and had zero significance. Michael tried to kidnap Emma, but they ended up feeling each other up instead. He pointed a gun at her, tied her up, and then "rescued" her from the cold when she tried to escape, only to then suddenly feel the need to protect her—he forced her to strip naked in front of him, because he wanted her to have a bath and warm up her body temperature. What the fuck!? They then almost have sex on the kitchen table, not even 24 hours of knowing each other, not even 24 hours after Michael was ready to kidnap Emma. It was insta-lust, insta-infatuation, insta-stupidity. There was no chemistry between the two main characters, there was no emotion, no affection. It was just sex, sex, drama, sex, sex, pathetic excuse for suspense, sex, sex, drama, sex, sex, countless plot holes, sex, sex, failed attempts at mystery and thrill, sex, sex, useless characters and action, sex, sex...You get the idea.

This whole book was just utterly pointless, wasn't executed well at all, had no stand-out elements, there was zero emotion and description and reasoning and character development, every chapter was useless and held no depth, and the writing was unintelligent and meaningless. There was really no reason for this book to have been published, so whoever snapped Closer up and thought it was a good idea to publish it are mentally insane and obviously have no sense of what talent is.

ARC from Netgalley

Michael was a Green Beret and has been out of the army for 6 months and has moved into security work. His ex team mate Rob brings him a job to "kidnap a scientist with ties to the GIA, the Armed Islamic Group", this scientist is apparently helping them with biochemical warfare. Emma Welby is the scientist in question, she is working on Project Hummingbird for the CIA and DOD. Michael breaks into her house and kidnaps her. Up to this point, the plot and story seemed reasonable, it went downhill from here.

He ties her to the chair in the kitchen and he turns creepy, stroking her face and smelling her hair. What? He's a professional soldier from a highly respected part of the military, he wouldn't do this while watching a hostage and when he believes she is a terrorist. Next thing we know, they are kissing and very soon in bed. He's kidnapped her, only known her a few hours, yet they are having consensual sex?

Every other paragraph, either Michael or Emma is having pounding or throbbing in their 'core' or 'center', (excuse me while I gag) and I hate the term "hard member".

"He wanted to feel her tight core sheath his hungry member.

"His hot liquid pulsated into her tight center as her pulsating labia sucked greedily at his member."

After two days of not much talk, a kidnap by a CIA agent and rescue by Michael and his friends, they are apparently in love. They've barely said two words to each other, don't know each other except he kidnapped her to start with and now they're in love.

She stood dumbfounded as she realized not only were they chemically attracted to each other, but he also stimulated her mind, and he respected her knowledge, he knew the depth of who she was."

Repeated ad nauseum is the word "brothers" when referring to his Green Beret team but they don't sound close like brothers. If it was a drinking game when I had a shot each time brothers or man was written, I'd be paralytic by the end of the book. The banter between them isn't convincing, yeah they have the odd manly hug but they don't talk like they are close. They sound unconvincing.

"We love you, man. We know you are hurting. Let us be here for you, the way you are always there for us. You lost your Lizzie, Man. We need to be here for you because we lost her too"

Each time it says one of the men says something to lighten the mood, what they've said isn't humorous, sarcastically funny or drol at all.

I had a few issues with the plot too: Emma has been beaten up, her face is black and blue but there is no mention of anyone noticing in the diner or hotel; at work Emma has to hand in her phone and bag at security yet she manages to talk a call from Michael while in her office/lab; both Emma and Michael say Agent Ingrams face when he kidnapped her, they've received a taunting letter on CIA stationary yet they don't turn to agency or police to get help.
I understand an ARC copy may not have had a final edit but having " " around sentences which are thoughts and not spoken out loud are not required, for example '" She was goading........." Michael thought'.

The potential for the plot was there, I always have a liking for military or security heroes but the characters were not believable and the plot was rushed through without a build up of tension. Disappointing book. I've given it 2 stars because I did read to then end, I reserve 1 star reviews for when I can't bear to read on.

Closer grabs you right from the start with action and draws you in immediately. There’s just enough background in the beginning to entice you to want to know more about Michael. The dialogue of terrorism…DOD…CIA… I almost felt as though I was watching an episode of 24. The author’s vivid descriptions pull you in to each scene and allow you to visualize your surroundings.

Michael, fresh out of the military, suffers from PTSD. He’s hired to kidnap a scientist he’s told works for the ‘bad guys’. The picture alone of his assignment, Emma, intrigues him. When he sees her it makes his heart skip a beat…there’s something about her that captivates him which makes it hard for him to remain focused on his assignment.

Emma has worked hard to get in the DOD. Her credentials and her father’s career with the DOD may have helped get her there. But it’s her ‘Project Hummingbird’ that’s her pass of acceptance to prove it is where she belongs. She’s worked endlessly to prove herself. Her devotion has kept her from any chance of romance. All she’s had in that department were her romance books to escape in. Emma believed her only true romance could ever come from a book boyfriend. Engrossed in one of her books one night, a man suddenly stands before her with a gun pointed at her.

A romance least expected by two develops through a story that holds gripping action and never-ending suspense. Closer is a page-turner…a story that kept me reading to finish.
A well-researched book that was easy to get hooked to. I was given this book in exchange for an honest opinion and I’m honestly looking forward to more!

I had a long busride and decided this was the book to take. I love military romance, this seemed right up my ally. Sara G Greyson did not let us down. As the miles passed and I read deeper into the book I caught my self laughing at the Units clseness and knowledge of each other. Michael and Emma are on the run for her life, but what they dont know can bring them all to their knees. All i will say is that I was glad it was dark and the lights were off as the tears flowed freely down my face. It is a great read that can stir my heart to break for a fictional being.

Sarah Greyson I so cant wait till the next life in the Unit is touched, For you see much deeper in to the soul and the mind. This is a must read.

I received this book in exchange of my true and honest opinion and it says read this book

The terrorists want her alive. The CIA wants her dead, and Michael just wants to love her.

Can you imagine being the eye of your kidnapper only to find out that he was under false accusations to do so. Ya that Emma's new world when the terrorist want what she can provide them with and the CIA wants to stop her at all cost...

Michael just wants her.. To save her at all cost !!!

This to Emma is all new... New feelings have emerged that has been foreign to her intellectually driven mind...that is, until Michael begins to awaken something deep inside her: something that she didn't even know existed.

first of all, Sarah did quite a bit of homework before she wrote this book. you can tell she researched her writing to be able to write such a well versed story. i love how she built up her characters, and her flawless back story was phenomenal. I thought it was great how the lead characters fell so deeply in love so quickly as well. i cannot wait to read more from Sarah Greyson!

This book was not what I expected. I love Romantic Suspense and I adore Military themed romances also. I tend to get lost in them and find hours have passed. While I did get sucked into this tantalizing story it was totally for a different reason. This book wasn't just a romantic suspense. I'd call it more of an erotically romantic suspenseful adventure with an emotional kicker. That might be too much of a mouthful for any genre or sub-genre but it works for me so  I'll go with it.

Michael is a war veteran and get's a call from a friend needing his help with a job. What starts of with Michael thinking he's doing the right thing for our country turns up side down and brings Emma into his path and directly into his heart. He wants her immediately and she's feeling the attraction for her abductor but can't understand it. After the immediate altercation what I loved was that there wasn't any push pull or angst with them fighting their attraction . The fact that Michael right away knew that Emma couldn't be "the bad guy" that she was portrayed endeared him in my heart.

He whispered in her ear a sincere promise, “I will protect you.”

During a tornado of disasters and scary encounters these two fell hard for each other and what transpired was a sweet romance that I really adored.

There were a load of secondary characters and a lot of information to take it but I wasn't overwhelmed at all. Some of the banter and love scenes were so sweet that it was almost forgotten I was reading such a serious subject matter. Then there were some pretty heart wrenching moments that I had tears running down my face. I really enjoyed this emotion packed and suspensefully erotic read and I look forward to more from this author.

We first meet Michael while he is having a nightmare. Michael has a routine he tries to sleep, has a nightmare, drinks scotch and then he passes out. The only person he feels would understand him is his father, his father lost his life for his country. Tony, Steve and Kevin had aspirations of making it big in the private security sector. Rob has a job for Michael is to kidnap a scientist with ties to the GIA the Armed Islamic Group, it pays 200,000 dollars he only agrees to do this if half of the money gets deposited into his account first. Emma designed a robot no bigger than a hummingbird, with the latest nanotechnology, a silicon chip designed by the Germans to allow it to fly all on its own. No one had to man a control station or press a button. Michael has been followed Emma to her cabin in the mountains. He broke in and tied her up, she escaped he found her in a cave he took her back to the cabin and ran her a warm bath to make sure that she didn't get frost bite. Emma told Michael that she wasn't a part of the GIA. He believed her and he decided to wait until he got a call from his employer to see what the next step is going to be. This is the first book in the series The Unit.
Michael fell head over heals in love with Emma, a Green Beret. Will protect Emma, he is 30 years old and he still runs from his training. Emma works for the DOD ( Department of Defense), is 28 years old, graduated the top of her class from the university of Maine. She has her dual PHD in Mechanical Engineering and Bio-Chemical Engineering. Her father used to work for the Department of Defense. Her father landed her current position with the DOD. Rob gave Michael the job, Green Beret. Kevin works for Homeland Security, Green Beret. Steve a Green Beret. Tony master hacker, Green Beret. Ingrams is in the CIA obsessed with the GIA.
I loved this story, I loved how I wasn't able to put this book down. I loved the story line and how well the characters were developed. I loved the authors style of writing. This is my first book by Sarah Greyson and it most definitely will not be my last. This book is a fast paced story that I couldn't let go of. I wanted to know what would happen next. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

I received and ARC from the author Sarah Greyson in exchange for my honest opinion. This is my honest opinion of her book.
I found the characters, the scenes and especially the military background all true to life. The weapons and defense moves that Micheal and his team used were so amazing and real. Ms. Greyson had to have done her homework on this story and she has used her creativity amazingly.
This story is about a young scientist by the name of Emma who works for our government. She is working on a project called the Humming Bird. Now , not only does our government want this project- but it seems that their is a terrorist group that also wants it. If they get their beady little hands on it - we are in BIG TROUBLE!!! This is where the story starts getting really interesting. See, Micheal's brother calls him and tells him that he needs him to a job . It pays really well and since he has a bum a leg - well he would do but hut can't so can Micheal. Mike agrees and ask for half the money up front .
Now Micheal is watching Emma trying to find the right to time to kidnap her. He finally does - but it turns out that he actually saves her. So, now as he has her and he gets to know her. He forces her to tell him about what she is working on that is wanted so bad to have her dead. Mike's brother calls and finally tells him that the terrorist have his wife- and in exchange for Emma they will give her back unharmed. The team is called in to start a rescue mission. So, my friends... is Micheal able to keep his love from the hands of the terrorists?? a live ?? Are they the team able to rescue Micheal's brothers wife?? All these questions and more are answered.
I give this book a rating of 5 stars. The only thing that I found a little hard to believe was that if you are working on classified material then you don't tell anyone no matter what. I know this as I have family members that are in the military. But it does make for an amazing, hot, and very interesting. I story!! I recommend this book for adults to read. And MOUSIEY SAYS GO GET IT NOW!!!!!
You will not be sorry that you did. START READING -PICK UP YOUR COPY TODAY!!!

Closer – The Unit
Sarah Greyson
4 stars

This book is a great story but you really need to like the military genre. If you don’t like rouge action adventure then don’t click it up because its not going to be your cup of tea. There is a lot going on in this one. There is also a bit of violence towards the female side so if that is a deal breaker for you then don’t click.

Michael is our military man out and trying to learn to be that horrid word .. a civilian. He finds himself hired to kidnap a woman. Through some very detailed events, Michael gets the feeling he might be working and have been hired by the wrong side. Who has been set up? Michael or Emma or both? This woman is nothing like what he was led to believe but he may have to kill her for the sake of Homeland Security.

Emma is a scientist who finds herself working on a top secret project. She has zero social life and keeps doing anything outside of work to a minimum. Finding herself held captive by a scary yet beautiful man has her world turned inside out and upside down. The man holding her captive believes her to be working for a terrorist group and has all the wrong information. Who led him to believe that she was a traitor? Not knowing who she can trust Emma finds herself in a situation she may not survive.

This is a great read and was really exciting. I love this type of story .. lots of action, suspense, drama and steamy stuff. There are two secondary characters that I really loved as well. Hopefully these two will get their day in the sun as well.

Im anxious to see what happens next in her following release; Stronger! Thank you for the ARC. Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS
Being a an American hero doesn't always mean that you have everything. Being a Green Beret really did a number on Michael and being a civilian is sometimes a challenge as well. Sleeping evades home and when he does sleep it filled with nightmares of his past. To fill his time he sometimes does jobs for a private security company, he pay is good and it sometimes gives him the rush of adrenaline he misses. Roy, his best friend and his contact to the security firm, came over and offers him a job. This one is a little off to him, kidnapping a woman, but with the justification she is selling classified information to the bad guys he takes the job. Michael starts to watch Emma and learn her routine to find when and where he can get her. He gets a lucky break when after work she goes to her cabin in the woods. He is able to watch her and sneak in undetected. Once he sneaks in and overtakes her he ties her up. Shortly after capturing her he realizes that she is not working for the. 'Bad guys' he is. After a few calls he, changes his mission from kidnapping her to save the classified information to a protection mission.
Sarah Greyson, writes an amazing story. This is not a one drama and done. This is a roller coaster of drama. You think that you hit the dramatic part and things will calm down and bam, something else sneaks up. Sarah, knows how to keep you are the edge of your seat, needing to read one more chapter. This book is book one of The Unit series, and can be read as a standalone, but why? She has more of the team that is screaming to share their stories and adventures.

WOW WOW WOW! Closer started out with a bang, and the intensity never eased up. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this story!

Michael Cartwright is a Green Beret fresh out of the military. He fights the demons after he what he saw in Afghanistan and Iraq, and has terrible nightmares. Now he does security with his brothers from his team, and that's what send him on a new mission, where he gets more than he bargained for. Emma Welby is a scientific genius, and developing a weapon that will make catching terrorists much easier for the Department of Defense. It's been her life's work, and she's a couple of weeks out from it being ready. The problem is that it's put a huge target on her back, and that's how she comes face to face with Michael, who is charged with kidnapping her. They figure out that there's more to the story than both knew, and on top of that, there's an instant connection. With danger surrounding them on every corner, will Michael and Emma have the chance at something fantastic?

WOW! My heart is still pounding from reading this action packed story. The character development is fantastic, with secondaries that made the story even better if possible! A fast paced, exciting, and well written story line flows effortlessly. Sarah Greyson does a fantastic job at keeping my heart racing cover to cover, and her talented writing style made it impossible to put the book down. Sparks flew off of my kindle, and led to some SIZZLIN' sexy goodness. There are gut wrenching parts that had my eyes leaking, and twists that kept me on my toes. I cannot wait to read more about these sexy Green Berets, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Can the brain follow her heart and fully trust and love the brawns in pain, searching for his soul mate

Danger. Intrigue. Suspense. Michael Cartwright possesses them all. A Green Beret fresh out of the military, Michael is haunted by the tours he served in Afghanistan and Iraq. When he is sent on assignment to protect his country, he gets more than he bargained for . . . Emma Welby is an intellectually driven beauty. She challenges Michael in a way that no one ever has. Her top secret work for the Department of Defense threatens her very existence. With danger lurking around every corner, can Michael keep his demons from destroying his future and still save Emma, or will they consume him? (Amazon blurb)
Sarah Greyson has a way of writing that brings into perspective the struggle that any person goes through after any type of difficult situation, may it be tours in Irak or being obligated to keep top secret their job. We aren’t spared and yet there is hope, and there is always that special someone that will bring us peace and the quietness that our souls desperately needs. The characters in Closer need each other, and the chemistry is undeniable, even breathtaking, to a point where the reader has a choice: stay and remember that breathing is very important, or take a few breaks for water to cool down. 5 amazing stars for an exciting and stimulating novel.

Closer follows the story of Emma - a super smart scientist working on Project Hummingbird for the US Department of Defense and Michael, a former Green Beret who is sent to kidnap Emma. Michael is led to believe that Emma is working for the GIA, a terrorist group who has infiltrated the US and is planning to use her Hummingbird to take out the President.

This book was so exciting! I had a very hard time finding stopping points in order to go about daily life. It would have been a wonderful book to just take a day and read all the way through. The characters were very well developed, especially Michael and Emma as the main characters. There was also a couple of secondary people - Rob and Tony - that I got to know very well too. I fell in love with Rob and my heart literally broke for him.

The storyline was great, it was very well paced, fast with lots of action. There was some violence, some of it towards women so if that bothers you, you might not want to read the book. Everything was very true to life it seemed, except for the insta-love part. Normally that doesnt bother me in a book, but this time it did. Michael went from "i will probably have to kill this woman" to "shes my angel" in seriously a span of about an hour after meeting her? And she did him too, of course. I realize it's fiction, but this detail is the only thing that kept Closer from being a 5 star read for me. As it stands, it is still a very solid 4**** wickedgoodstar book and I will definitely recommend it to my friends and be looking forward to more from this author!

Michael is out of the military and trying to lead a life as a civilian. He is hired to kidnap Emma. He soon thinks he is working for the wrong person. Emma is a scientist working on a top secret project. She is person who keeps to herself and doesn't have much of a social life. At first I didn't feel the connection between these two but then the story took off full speed and that changed.

Ms. Greyson does a great job of presenting a story that was filled with action, It was never ending between fights, shoot outs, kidnapping and more. Every page was filled with action and suspense and you couldn't wait to see what happened next. There were some WTH moments and I said a few choice words. You know you reading a good book when you are that invested in the story.

If you want non stop action, a steamy romance, and even some moments that brought out tears then you will like this book.

GOOD LOVE STORY AND ACTION PACKED STORY

I enjoyed this book so much as it had a love story that also had HOT sex, surprises at every other turned page, with an outstanding action packed, character driven story. In other words it had a multiple of things going on and it made it so interesting. I read it in one day as I just didn't want to put it down. MS Greyson was exceptional in her description of her characters in this book. She was also excellent in bringing out the unique and strong emotions I experienced.
I do think that this author has a great future ahead of her.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.
I HAD NO COMPLAINTS ON THE EDITING.
I also loved the trailers that MS GREYSON did. I have played it at least a dozen times. I don't think that authors realize that a trailer and/or a great cover of a book can sell it (the book).

HAPPY READING MY BOOK FRIENDS....

I was given this book for an honest review. I am so sorry I put off reading this book. Closer was exciting, suspenseful and it had all the romance that I look for. My brother was a Green Beret, so this book had my interest from the beginning. Emma is a character that we can respect. She has backbone and determination. Michael, well probably every woman would want to fix him. This may be one of my new favorites series. Can't wait to read Stronger, the next book in the Unit Series.

This book started off slow for me but when the action started it took off. Emma was not a social person but throughout the book she showed her tough side and did everything she needed to capture the terrorists. She was the one that received the most violence in this book but she kept on going. Michael is hired to kidnap Emma but knows from the beginning that is wrong.

The action was non stop in this book. The characters were strong. But what made it a good read for me was there some moments I wanted to throw my kindle and said a few choice words to Ms. Greyson. You know you are reading a good book when you are that invested.

This one does not let go until the last page!
There were many moments that I thought that I had this figured out. I was nowhere close! I had not thought that this was how it was going to go.. Not only does Ms. Greyson keep us guessing with the main characters and how they interact with each other, but also the background characters, as well and how they are dealt with. Plenty of heat and suspense made this for a quick read for me.

An action packed story that is suspenseful and hard to put down. The author draws you into this tantalizing story that is full of mystery, intrigue and sexual attraction. The characters have great interaction and there is a wide range of emotion throughout. It grabs you from the start and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. Great start to the series.

I received this book as an ARC for a honest review. This book was read and reviewed by Stacy Aube for Cutting Muse Blog Review.

This book has it all danger, friendship, terror, and love.

Michael is to kidnap Emma, he just doesn't know the whole truth. Michael begins to see Emma in a different light and can not turn her over.

This is a very intense read that I really enjoyed.

NOT A BAD SATURDAY AFTERNOON READ. SOME ACTION MOSTLY IN THE SACK, A LITTLE TOO MUCH. SINCE I LIVE IN PITTSBURGH, IT WAS NICE READING ABOUT SOME OF THE FAMILIAR STUFF. I WOULD'VE LIKED TO GIVE THIS 3 1/2* STARS BECAUSE I DID ENJOY THE BOOK. ;D

GREAT READ.

Great story. This a fine example of terrorist in our country and how they have no rearguard for human life. And also much Valor and honor for our service men and what they go through.
