On a rare morning off from the the Pine Lake Inn Dell Powers was just looking to take in a little fresh air and exercise. Walking out in the bush in the warm November breeze she thought it couldn't be more perfect.
That is, until she came across old Arthur Loren, the resident town coot and fossicker. He was scrabbling around in the dirt like a madman muttering "Give it back" and making no sense at all.
Had he completely lost his mind? Or was something more going on?
What seemed like a routine medical issue of heat exhaustion becomes so much more as Dell, Kevin and James dig deeper into Arthur's life and the circumstances that brought him to be out in the bush at that time.
Before Dell knows it she is tangled up in a mystery that has ties to a one hundred year old murder.
I enjoyed the storyline, and I like Dell, but I’m already feeling like the writing is very repetitive. I feel like you can find the exact same sentences in both books. It’s like talking to a friend who repeats themselves all the time. You still love them and want to talk to them, but sometimes you want to tell them, “you said that already” just so they get to the point.
The story was listed as a murder/mystery but I found this book a somewhat confusing tale. It started with a crazy old coot digging in the dirt under the Tasmanian sun. He appears to be suffering from a head injury - so far so good. Then we are introduced to Dell who is a local hotel owner and is seeing ghosts in her historic inn. She recognizes one of the ghosts, does not know the other one and there are hints of a third ghost. Added into the mix are Dell's love life (past and present), her son's police ambitions and a blood thirsty crime family who has dispatched a killer. This novel was not my favorite read but I appreciated the details about life in a small town on the fascinating island of Tasmania off the coast of Australia.

I've read both in series now and love the characters, the town, and the Australian education I'm receiving. This was another fast paced, keep you guessing story. The only thing that confused me was a vague reference to a daughter this time that wasn't mentioned in first book.
I loved this book as much as the first in the series. In this book there is romance, assault, shooting, bodies, and ghosts. So much fun in this mystery I tried to stay awake all night because it was so hard to put down. Dell is a great character, too brave for her own good at times, but that's what I love about her. Kevin is almost always close to save her bacon and James is adorable. Don't miss this great mystery.
This was excellent! I love the new ghost. He'd gonna take some getting used to, but I think that Dell will be able to keep him in line by being such a forceful individual. I will miss Kevin being a part of the local constabulary, but he really did have some sucky co-workers. Hopefully, soon someone will come in and clean house for Lakeshore...
