Something changed Prue Halliwell on New Year's Eve, when a stranger gave her the most passionate kiss of her life. Now Prue feels driven to kiss every man she meets. At first this is fun, but when Prue starts to grow weaker with every kiss, the Charmed Ones know evil is afoot.
I'm sorry for the people who actually really enjoy this series and are really in to it, but I have to say it.. I use this series to empty my head in between serious reads. I find it pretty difficult to start with a new book after I finished one, especially if they are both on the difficult side, and it bothers me because if I can't read I go slightly nutty.
Anyways, this series is written in such an easy way and the plot is so seethrough and obvious that I hardly need to think while reading. It makes for a perfect in-between.
To be clear, the books aren't bad. Well, maybe they are. Yeah, they are bad, but in such a way that it's still kinda good. Just don't try to take it vey serious.
This book was going very slow and I get it that it's very difficult to find something new after so many episodes and books but whatever.
I still miss Charmed. Still don't know when to rewatch. One day it will come. I'm just not the type that loves romance and this wasn't romance but it was hella annoying with Prue kissing everybody.
A one-sentence plot strung out to a 190-page book. The second act didn't begin until 2/3 of the way through, making the first act tedious after a while. If you love CHARMED, then great, I do too. But you can't always expect the best from these quickie stories...
a nice little side story, build up exactly as the episodes of the show.
i read a few other reviews for this book and have to say i don’t really understand the ones making this book out to be horrible.
is it the best writing compared to other “real” (aka not tv show novelizations) fantasy book? of course not. if you want fantastic writing and unique stories and this huge world and character build up you should try and read a book under 200 pages let alone a book that doesn’t make sense of you are not a fan of the show it’s based on!
it’s just a fun super easy to read story follow along characters from a show a reader should at least enjoy to pick up the book.
so if you love charmed and want more than just the episodes we have available? the book is a nice addition and a good read.
it follows the typical charmed episode structure as known and loved from the show, has a baddy they have to figure out and fight and ends in the typical way. it has some man issues sprinkled in because it’s charmed and a little of sister teasing.
so again? love charmed? enjoy this book it’s really fun!
don’t know charmed? what are you doing here at all and way are you looking at a second book form a book series based on that show?!
This was the first charmed book I ever read. And its just as great as I remember. Now I have been rewatching the series and I'm obsessed with witches. In combination with the nostalgic feels it gives, with memories of my dad letting me watch it in secret once a week if I behaved, might be influsensing my rating a bit... Who am I kidding. Thats definatly the case. Still I would reccomend this book if your a charmed fan (and especially for Prue fans).
This story is mostly about Pru who can't stop kissing men even strangers. Is she under a spell or just going through a mid life crisis? I love the sisters and I like Piper's new love interest though I am not sure he isn't a warlock. You never know in this series. The story line was good and kept me turning the pages.
I didn't care much for this one. It was nice seeing Prue be the vulnerable one with Phoebe and Piper scrambling to save her, but the story felt repetitive. The same sequence of events happened over and over until the ending.
It were very slow and very silly about how she kisses everyone that she meets. It could have easily been a 45 minute charmed episode but they dragged it on to make it a 182 page book. I also couldnt believe how long it took for phoebe and piper to figure out that something was wrong with prue and she's probably the one less likely to go around kissing everyone aha. I guess they had to drag it on which is why it took them so long to notice. However about 120 pages in it eventually got going and I ended up enjoying the book and the ending. Piper also having a love interest were also quite nice to see as piper really does deserve to be happy. Really good book overall.
As the Charmed novels are usually not very long (this was about 150 pages), they are a quick read. So I finished this in just one rainy afternoon. Still I probably wouldn't have finished it so quickly if the story hadn't gripped me.
While the first indications for the "magical influence" in the sisters' life seemed a bit queer, it later became a quite thrilling story. While I guessed some aspects of the solution, some things also escaped me until they were revealed. The characters were true to their TV-show equivalents. I found some inconsistencies with the chronology and one contradiction with the TV-show (nothing very important and just in one throw-away sentence, so it's not a major flaw). This might not be something to prevent somebody from enjoying the story in itself, but fans of the TV-show might be bothered by it. There was also another flaw, which could simply stem from the translation. I don't have the English original, so I can't say if it suffers under the same error: In some conversations (I think it was two times, it was certainly more than just once), the dialogue seemed out of order because Phoebe was cited as the speaker, although she clearly not spoke because she had the lines before and after the one in question. In addition I found some other passages a bit strange, probably also a translation error, but as above noted I can't give details on that (one passage actually didn't make any sense).
All in all a good book but flawed especially in the German translation.
A book that I enjoyed reading. It played out very well, just like a TV episode in fact. I could have easily seen this book being an episode of the television series. The characters took an awful lot of time to realize some things, some obvious and others a little shadowy. But for the length of the novel it was acceptable. If this were a TV episode, they would have figured things out a lot sooner and without the extra scenes. With this being a novel, it was meant to entertain fans of the series and it just did that.
It adds nothing new to the viewer of the show but for a reader there are some interesting characters that I could have liked to see longer and even being developed further. That includes the demons and the spells in the Book of Shadows. It was also nice to get into the heads of the Halliwell sisters/Chamred Ones and what they were thinking at times. Being a character centric book was also a good touch.
There is saying 'Be careful what you wish for' well this should be taken in consideration and changed to 'Be careful who you kiss.' for this book. The second in the Charmed series. It takes place a good time after the first book.
Prue finds this out the hard way after a New Years Eve party and the kiss at Midnight goes terribly wrong. The Midnight Phantom as she is calling him. The question becomes who is this Midnight Phantom that has Piper and Phoebe wondering what is wrong with their big sister.
Time is running out to figure out what is wrong with Prue and with Phoebe's premonitions they have to work fast to stop the power of three from ending for good. Sealed with a curse... not a kiss.
I really enjoyed this quick read. I chose this book because I needed a light in between read and this series is just perfect for that! It's a quick magical adventure with just enough depth to satisfy your reading requirements and light enough that you can breeze through it without too much concentration.
For me, even though this book was mainly about Prue - I really grew to love Phoebe even more. She might be the youngest and an airhead but I really connected with her. Most people over estimate her and just over lok her but she is just so much fun, so caring and has a beautiful heart. I loved Piper's little romance that has started with Jake too. I haven't always been the biggest fan of Prue but with the 3 of them together - You are guaranteed an adventure.
It was ok. I'm a big fan of Charmed, and I read this as a teenager around the time that the second season was airing. I just didn't enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed most of the Charmed episodes that I was watching on tv around that time. Maybe if I had selected a different book from the Charmed series I would have enjoyed it better.
This book is stupid. I'm sorry but that's the only word I can use to explain this book right now. STUPID STUPID STUPID I have no idea how these books got into tv show, etc. they are just horribly written and the plot of the story is just horrible! Ahgh! I give up on it! I've tried to give it a shot but I just can't. Good bye Brandon Alexander.
Well as a book that is not cannon, It was well written, with little jokes that made sense for the characters, this book if you like the Charmed series is a good read. I like that it had some background and left certain facts unsaid, beyond that the little joke at the end about there fortunes being read was a nice way to end the book, mind you I wish i had a necklace like that i could sell.
Actual rating 4.5. It wasn't amazing but I absolutely loved it and really really liked it. First Charmed book I read that is not based on an episode (Book 1 was based on pilot episode). Typical Charmed episode and suspense but a one that we've never got to see on TV which made it more fun! Can't wait to read the remaining books I managed to hunt from bookshops, since they are all out of print!
Another fun read in the Charmed series! The story was a pretty good one. I did think the sisters took awhile to connect things, where in the show they probably would've figured it out sooner, but overall a pretty good read. I'm so glad I discovered these books, I hope to find and read them all.
I enjoyed the light read, as I worked late & just wanted to relax. I did not realise it was the second book released, as I'm picking up the Charmed series haphazardly as I find them in the second hand bookstores. I loved watching the show, so the characters come alive as I read.
It's a pity I can't find these books anymore... :/ I loved the series as a child and I grew up watching the show, so, these books are like candy for me! I really liked the story, but the show was much much better! Especially the first seasons with Prue!
This one is set towards the end of the first season.
The only real thing that might get under a Charmed fan's skin is that we get no mention of Leo or that Piper has been trying to find love with anyone. It's as if her first boyfriend Jeremy who turned out to be a warlock was the only one.
I know they are supposed to be original stories but a little continuity wouldn't hurt...an author can use their imagination.
Piper is throwing a New Year's Eve Party at Quake and only Phoebe is attending because Prue's boss at Bucklands, Claire, wants her to go to the party being thrown by a client. An antiques dealer that Prue knows, a frenchman named Robert, is going to be there and they have flirted in the past but prue wasn't a witch with telekinetic powers then...
At lunch with her sisters that day, Prue had her cards read by a woman named Elena along with Piper and Phoebe. The other two got pretty standard Tarot readings but Prue's came with The Tower card popping up and Elena's face went white.
The Tower card is not good FYI...
At the mansion party, Prue shares a passionate kiss with whom she believes to be Robert but the lights went out and the next time she sees him, the kiss is anything but fireworks. Promising that she would go to Quake after her business party, Prue drags Robert along.
It is when Prue learns that Robert was not the man she kissed so she decides she is going to find the man or at least one that has the same steamy passion behind that midnight kiss. That means kissing every man she comes across but not getting anywhere.
Phoebe and Piper think that Prue just had too much champagne and because it is New Years' Eve but the next day, Prue continues to kiss every guy in sight regardless of good looks.
It is not as funny now and becomes even more serious when Piper and Phoebe learn that every man Prue has kissed is ending up in the hospital, weak and clinging to life. Soon, Prue also finds herself getting weaker as well as having the most horrible thoughts popping into her head...malicious and angry.
Running around to find the person behind it and save Prue and the lives of innocents is standard Charmed plot points. The randomness of the source of evil is fine but the lead up to just how serious this is filled with suspense and intrigue with horrifying, descriptive imagery.
What starts as perhaps a Love Potion #9 plot of kissing every guy you see seems weak...it soon turns deadly and appears to be much steamier than I remember any Charmed episode in the first season to be.
Kiss of Darkness is one original Charmed tale I can recommend.
Fun enough, I read a translated version though and the translator could not decide on whether Piper's beau for the book should be called Jack or Jake, and kept switching between the two. Small thing, but it was a bit annoying.
Simple plot, Prue is essentially possessed by a warlock/demon figure that draws power from her kind of sucking the life force out of people by kissing them.
I liked that it took a while for the others to figure it out, even if she was behaving strangely. Even if they're witches it makes sense that they wouldn't jump to the conclusion that all the strange stuff around them was tied together.
Piper behaves like an idiot in terms of her love interest, throughout the book, but it is still a nice change of pace from her and Leo, and it genuinely felt like Piper.
Robert is kind of creepy, the fact that he doesn't give up on Prue, even when she is a nightmare to him, it's just strange. Phoebe was right to be wary of him.
But yeah, all in all, it was a fun book, easy to read, the characters felt true to themselves. I wouldn't call myself a hardcore Charmed fan, as I kind of love-hate the show (mostly hate when it comes to Phoebe though), but as an easy read when you don't want to think too much and spend time in a familiar 'universe', these are good.
Charmed is and forever will be my favorite show. When I learned that they had accompanying books I was sold. I've purchased a number of these and am finally getting around to reading them. I can't wait to read the next one. Especially after the passing of Shannon. It was nice to read a book that has the character that she played.
Prue gets a spell cast upon her. It didn't take Piper and Phoebe long to figure out what was going on with her. I've loved this family and how close they were. Family forgives if you give the time. I enjoyed this side story. It only makes me wish they were actual episodes. Or that the series was never ending.
If you were a fan of the show and miss it like I do. I recommend.
