First in the series introducing Doctor Colin Powers, Forensic Psychologist, partnering Detective Inspector Jack Carver. Their second investigation is well under way and will be ready to read in 2016.
Peter Leech has spent half a lifetime in prison for the vicious murder of his parents on his eighteenth birthday. He is a cunning, devious killer, brutalized by his years of incarceration. Now he is up for parole and, one way or another, he wants out. He has two obsessions – his lust for Judy Finch, a beautiful parole officer who has rebuffed his advances, and his thirst for revenge on those he blames for his conviction.
His nemesis, Doc Powers, was the forensic psychiatrist responsible for determining his fitness to stand trial. Now Doc is on the panel considering Leech’s parole application - but Doc fears for his own sanity. His feelings of guilt over his wife’s death and his terrible experiences as a criminal profiler threaten to overwhelm him. Nightmares and hallucinations haunt Doc as he struggles to convince his colleagues that Leech is a dangerous unreformed psychopath, and the demons continue to plague him as he works with his old friend, Detective Inspector Jack Carver of London's Metropolitan Police, to unravel the truth about this psychopathic serial killer. A blossoming relationship with Judy helps Doc heal – emotionally and professionally – but he soon discovers he’s ill-prepared for Leech’s re-entry into his life...
Will writes gritty crime stories that mix murder mystery, psychological suspense and intense thrills while offering unique insights into the darker side of human nature. His ‘pull no punches’ style and sparse but often brutal descriptive passages will not suit all readers, so if you are into cozy mysteries you might want to look elsewhere!
With complex plots and rounded characters, Will’s novels are necessarily longer than average, usually well over 100,000 words, so these are definitely stories designed for readers who like to really get their teeth into a good yarn!
Now considered something of an expert on psychopaths, thanks to his extensive research and personal experience of people with this personality disorder, Will set up a popular website to help lay readers understand these destructive individuals and why their existence is so important to society in general. Visit the site here.
Will’s writing draws heavily on this expertise but his novels are designed to entertain rather than educate – though many readers appreciate both aspects of his writing. He is currently working on completing two trilogies, though each novel is a self-contained story.
The first novel in each trilogy, Remorseless and The Hack, are already published, with the sequels due in late 2016 and early 2017 respectively. The third and final instalments are expected by the end of 2017.
Personal background:
Will Patching was born and raised in ‘Sarf Lunnon’, Engerland, or at least, that’s how he pronounces it! Hence, many scenes from his novels are situated in London, the surrounding suburbs and other parts of southeast England, though they also span as far afield as Thailand and the USA.
His approach to writing is to hit the reader with hard truths about the world we live in, and his mysteries, thrillers, and suspense novels are designed to get your pulse pounding. One male reader decided he needed to check his door locks late one night while reading Remorseless and subsequently commented on social media:
‘Seriously scary!’
Will’s eclectic professional experience – from his teenage role as a ‘gardener’ weeding sewage treatment filter beds, through flying a Hawk jet very fast, very low and very dangerously before the RAF realised and booted him out, then attending Harvard on a course for potential CEOs, largely thanks to the Peter Principle of promotion, and more recently, to building his dream, a charter yacht that sank in SE Asian waters – all have led to a rich and varied life, often reflected in his writing.

Remorseless is a book that does not hold back so if you like your reading to be light and fluffy look elsewhere. If, however you like a read that gets the cogs of the brain whirring and challenges you then this one should go on your to-read list. A very engaging book.
Peter Leech has spent half a lifetime in prison for the vicious murder of his parents on his eighteenth birthday. He is a cunning, devious killer, brutalized by his years of incarceration.
Now he is up for parole and, one way or another, he wants out. He has two obsessions – his lust for Judy Finch, a beautiful parole officer who has rebuffed his advances, and his thirst for revenge on those he blames for his conviction...
Peter is a really complex character, the author has very cleverly developed his character throughout the book. I very much felt that the man I knew at the start of the book was not quite the man at the end. He is not someone you want to mess with in prison, he has successfully built enough walls around himself and created enough fear of him from other prisoners that he is a total lone wolf. A dangerous one at that. Was he born this way? Or did his environment, sitation create a monster?
Enter a pretty lady, Judy Finch, appointed to interview Peter and assess him objectively for his upcoming parole hearing...she is going to wish she never met the man. He is a sinister, scary, intimidating and cold character. Not someone you bring home to a dinner party. This is where the book starts to get really interesting. He is fixated. Obsessed.
Peter has always stated he is innocent and has said it was his brother that killed his parents, not him. Nobody believes him and why should they?, the evidence is clearly pointing at Peter without a shadow of a doubt. He is not of sound mind this chap. The book brings in outsider characters one by one so we get to know them also and again I really like the way that the author unravels them, presents them, I had serious brain juice being used reading this book.
With interesting events that hooked me right from the start, a build up in tension as the book rolls along and some twists that will put a big smile on your face this was a really enjoyable read. Does Peter get parole granted? You need to read it to find out. With scenes getting more graphic and violent (mind you it's there from the start, you can't be in a high security prison and avoid it) this one is not for the lily livered but if you like your books gritty, dark with complex characters and a plot that takes you with it to the final grand finale then you will enjoy this little gem of a novel.
Remorseless (think Pychopath!) gets 4.5 rounded up to 5 paw prints from me and I am very keen to read more from Will Patching, I really enjoyed his writing style.
I have review copies of this novel if you are interested please inbox me here on Goodreads.
If you plan to read Remorseless by Will Patching, you may want to have some antacids handy. My stomach was in knots throughout the account of Peter Leech, a twisted, psychopathic man imprisoned for the murder of his parents when he was 18. Leech has consistently maintained his innocence, but during his incarceration, he has not only survived; he has thrived. The “screws” hate him. Prisoners fear him. They all know him as “the Snake.” Look up “psychopath.” You might just see “Peter Leech” as one of the definitions!
Eighteen years later, he is up for parole. He becomes enamored and obsessed with a young woman from the Parole Board, Judy Finch. He also must confront an old adversary, Colin “Doc” Powers, a forensic psychiatrist who labeled him a psychopath and pronounced him fit for trial. Now Doc is on the panel that will determine whether or not he will go free.
Doc has his own demons. Just months prior, his pregnant wife was killed in an accident, and he suffers from nightmares and hallucinations, even when he is not drowning himself in alcohol. Then he, too, becomes smitten with Judy Finch. Doc, frankly, is a mess. But after a leave of absence, his experience and expertise are desperately needed, so he returns to work. When Judy gets her first taste of prison, meeting the bold, clever, slimy Leech overwhelms her. She turns to Doc; it seems that Doc and Judy need each other. Each character definitely has flaws and imperfections, but at least Judy has her mother and her son to keep her life balanced.
The masterpiece, of course, is Leech. “Remorseless” is only one way to describe him. To be remorseless, one first has to act in ways that might cause “normal” people to feel remorse. Leech, to be sure, does many bad things. He is a master at blaming others. Even the slightest offense can send him into fits of rage. Rage turns to violence…
The plot is a bit of a train wreck. Leech’s escapades reminded me a bit of the battery commercials with “the Eveready Bunny.” He just keeps going and going and going…There are some other elements that I found a little hard to swallow, but I am going to avoid spoilers and just say that they made for some interesting plot twists that I felt were mostly predictable.
Despite his inability to rein in his frustrations and violent urges, Leech maintains his innocence of the crimes that sent him to prison. But he is a liar, so why should we believe him? Why indeed?
Leech is so cunning and so evil that I felt like I needed a shower when I finished this book. I always felt like I was reading with my hands over my eyes, sort of peeking through my fingers, cringing at what I knew what was coming next, because, for the most part, I had a sense of where things were headed, even if I didn’t know the outcome. However, there was always that question mark that the author planted in my brain – remember, he’s a psychopath, and psychopaths lie. Don’t they?
I would like to thank the author and Booklover Catlady Publicity for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.
Not a review from me - I'm the author - but this was just posted on Amazon. My very first review was 5 stars:
I was expecting this book to be good. I wasn't disappointed. It's good, a very good read all round, far superior to the vast majority of airport novels and the like which adorn the bookshop shelves. Well researched and a story well told. It starts at a brisk pace and speeds as it progresses, good old fashioned story-telling at it's very best. I am now in my sixties and the clock is ticking - consequently I am a grumpy old man and have little time for also-rans. This is not an also ran - I repeat - it's right up there with the very best.
My wife also read this book. It is rare that we both find a book which we both like and are sorry to have finished but Remorseless filled the bill for both of us.
Peter Leech has been in prison for 18 years, convicted of killing both his parents. To this day, he maintains his innocence, believing his brother did the actual killing. Now he is up for parole and will do anything, anything at all to get out. After all, he has a desire to issue his own brand of justice on all those who put him behind bars.
Doc Powers will be one of the psychiatrists deciding Leech's future ... he was also the psychiatrist who testified against him in court, calling him a psychopath. But Doc Powers has other things on his mind .. he actually fears for his sanity. Just a few months prior, his pregnant wife was killed in an auto accident .. and he was the driver.
Judy Finch is a fairly new parole officer who interviews Leech for the parole hearing. Now Leech feels that Judy is his soulmate and she's just waiting for the chance to be with him. The first half of the book is basically how he spends his time in prison .. bulking up and never forgetting his enemies. Actually, he dispenses with a couple of them before he's paroled. He's smart and he's cunning enough that no one can prove these were not accidents.
The rest of the book takes place outside the prison once he is released. His brother and his wife, Finch and her young son, Powers, and others who originally put him away are all affected .. and all are terrified.
The first half of the book dragged just a tad for me... lots of things happening, but not quite holding my interest. I did persevere because the premise was a good one. It did get better the farther into the book I got.
The characters felt a little off, although Leech as the bad guy was a good fit. Powers, for being a psychiatrist, carried his guilty feelings over his wife's death a bit too much, mostly drinking to access. Physician Heal Thyself. Why didn't he go for counseling ..he knew he had a problem.
Judy Finch reminded me of a bobble doll that sits on the dash of a car and bobbles with every pothole you hit. She came across as a little too needy.. setting her eyes on Doc even knowing that he was still struggling with the loss of his wife. I loved her son and her mother. They were terrific.
All in all, not a bad read .. just not the best I've read. The author does have another book, The Hack, that I would like to read.
My thanks to the author and Booklover Catlady Publicity who furnished a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
Peter Leech has been in prison for 18 years for the death of both of his parents but all the time he has said he didn't do the crime, now he is up for parole he will do anything in his power to get out he has some people to pay back one being his brother who for all of peters life has been the one to do bad things but blame Peter for them. In prison Judy Finch goes to see Leech to get an interview from him to see if he is sane enough to be let lose this is where Leech becomes obsessed with Judy who he calls his little Birdy. Doc Powers is one of the psychiatrists deciding Leeches future he thinks he shouldn't be let out but the other 2 on the board override him and Leech is let out. Doc Powers has his own demons his wife and unborn child was killed in an car accident and Doc was driving and the the guilt is eating him away he keeps having flash backs to the night. Peter is a psychopath and what he wants he goes after and doesn't care who gets in the way. This is a great read lots of gruesome parts which i think add to the story and twists and turns. Also a great ending I look forward to reading more from this Author.
Thank you to the Author and Booklover Catlady for a copy of this book.
If you enjoy dark and gruesome stories depicting intriguing psychopaths you need to put Remorseless on your book list! Having been incarcerated for half of his life for savagely killing his parents, Peter Leech is coming up for parole. Judy Finch is appointed to interview and assess Peter prior to his parole hearing. Peter becomes obsessed with this recently divorced mother of a young son. Upon his release, he has two objectives: revenge against those who put him behind bars for a crime he is adamant he did not commit and connect with his new love, Judy. Convinced that Peter is an unreformed psychopath, Doc Powers, the forensic psychiatrist who assessed Peter just after the killings, is fighting his own demons to assist the police to apprehend the remorseless and rather uninhibited killer whose out on a crime spree around London. Remorseless was a terrific book about characters who are plagued by guilt and those who don't feel any. Great psychological insight, brilliant writing, well plotted and with complex characters. I was hooked from the start and will definitely put the sequel on my TBR list. Thanks to the author and to Maxine at Booklover Catlady Publicity for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
I don't know if you have to be a little insane yourself to love this book.
It is hard and cruel not only because of the graphic descriptions of the crimes but because of the insight we get in Leech's and Doc's mind. The first a remorseless psychopath who doesn't know guilt, the latter nearly losing his mind over guilt.
This well-written intelligent story won't leave you untouched. You'll start looking around for the psychopaths in your life. They might not be murderers but they sure have a "hole in their psyche" as Will Patching puts it.
I need to thank Maxine and Will Patching for this thrilling read in exchange for an honest review.
This is a story of an innocent person suffering for something he did not do. This is a book of a deep psychological look into the criminal mind and trying to figure out his next step. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and interested enough that you do not want to put it down. I recommend this book to anyone who likes dark, twisted stories. What does that say about me?
This really wasn’t my kind of book. I found it slow and I already guessed how the story was going. It was gritty and sometimes quite disturbing. At in all I didn’t enjoy it that much but, don’t let my opinion put you off.
I'm ashamed to say I was very sceptical going in to read this book - it was offered to me on Amazon for free, and so I loaded it up on to my Kindle and left it. My previous experiences with free books from Amazon hasn't been great. One long train journey, I finished my previous book and so I thought I'd give Remorseless a shot. Being interested in mental health, sociopathy and psychopathy and knowing a bit about it, and having had personal experiences around the subject, I was worried that Remorseless would be a cheap, inaccurate thriller with no real character development and a predictable plot. Boy, oh boy was I wrong! From the get-go, Will's masterfully crafted book hooked me in - 3 hours later, I almost missed my stop off the train! An incredible piece of writing, with each character being fleshed out and made absolutely real and relatable. The visceral description of Leech's piercing green eyes is brilliant - the intensity of such people was certainly not missed by the author. My favourite scene was probably Judy's first encounter with Leech in the interview. A brilliant perspective from both sides, with Leech being absolutely certain in what to anyone else would be a very different interpretation. Or maybe when Doc goes home and just breaks down in front of Judy. A touching example of how we can appear strong and well on the outside, but have turmoil destroying the inside. My favourite character? Shaun. A fantastically crafted, "computer brained" psychopath, he was more intimidating than Peter. The meticulous planning and execution of his attacks to the extent that he could easily get away with it was a perfect contrast to Peter's brutish thugism.
I am now a chapter in to The Hack, and eagerly awaiting the next thrill with Doc Powers and co. I'll definitely be less sceptical of Amazon's suggestions now too!
Wow! This is a hardcore novel that pulls no punches. Real gritty Brit crime writing.
A complex story with some fascinating characters developed along the way. It is not your run of the mill thriller – in fact it starts out as a psychological suspense novel, develops into a murder mystery and concludes as an out and out banging thriller!
The conflict revolves around a threesome: the protagonist (a forensic psychologist who is having a very tough time mentally), his potential love interest, a parole officer, and the amazing bad guy - a brilliantly drawn psycho who becomes obsessed with her while he's inside prison. An interesting subplot involves the ex-husband, expanding on the theme of guilt that runs right through this cracking read.
This was a another used paperback I found in a beach bar while on holiday, along with Deaver's The Bone Collector. Enjoyed this unexpected gem as much as I did re-reading that all time classic.
You'll love this if:
You enjoy fine writing, in depth characterization, and plenty of thrills and shocks, with a few unexpected twists thrown in.
You'll hate this if:
You like short and to the point thrillers, straightforward good guy/bad guy characters, easy to predict plots and especially if you are averse to violent, disturbing images told with a matter of fact realism.
Remorseless-definition -without regret or guilt/never ending or improving; relentless. This is a story of both.A tale of twisted minds, psychopathic planning and dark moods. Looking back is not always the best thing to do-it can be cathartic to some.. or the opposite to others. Different people have different minds and here we see both at their best and worst. A man wanting to look forward but haunted and taunted by looking over his shoulder. A woman looking forward and finding what was past has swung around to potentially block the future. Another man taking past actions and making them part of his and everyone in his wake's future too... A brilliantly written piece of work that gets into the deep and dark minds of psychopaths along with a detective story with unexpected twists and turns. You think you see where this is going... wrong! I rarely give 5* and this certainly gets and deserves everyone of them. Brilliantly written, well researched, fantastic plot, depth of characters and an excellent ending(my big must have!) The next book I understand is due Xmas 2016- this is one reader who is in the queue.
Peter Leech spent eighteen years of his life in prison for the murder of his parents. Although, he claimed his innocence, no one seems to believe him. He believes it is his brother who is guilty of the murders and intends to prove it. When he is released on parole, he plans to pay everyone back who framed him for the murder of his parents.
This book started out very slow and I found myself, walking away from it and coming back, hoping that my brain would somehow reengage into the story.
The book did pick up in the middle and towards the end, and I have to say I did enjoy the writing style of the author, it was the characters that I didn’t warm up to and that made it only an okay read for me. But please, don’t let my review sway you from the book. The writing is very good and my opinion is just that mine.
Will Patching is not only a very talented author but also a good narrator. He has done a fantastic job: the different voices are distinct and even the female voices are believable.
An absolutely terrible book. Total over the top violence. Poor character portrayal, coupled with bad dialogue. Way too obvious plot line. Disappointed by the whole thing.
Although this book may not show as a sale, I have actually bought it through Amazon as a trilogy but feel that each book should have its own review. This novel is right up there with my other 'rather twisted reads' collection. The ones that make you edgy even before you get in bed and turn off the lights, so a huge compliment to the author, Will Patching, who is new to me because not many make it up there. A good book to me isn't the walk home when I finish work listening to a book at 1 am in the morning, it is hesitating to actually go inside when I get there, that's a good book! I loved meeting Peter Leech, a real complexed character that didn't quite see the world as someone normal does. After serving 18 years in prison for the murder of his parents, he had established himself pretty early on as 'don't frigging mess with me unless you want to live celibate forever,' kind of guy. He knew how to play the system and knew how to play the rookie parole officer, Judy Finch, that came to interview him but his twisted mind made everything she said into 'I want you'. Leech had found his Little Birdie. Now I am not that many chapters in and I am thinking this is going to be a bit of a heart racer. It was time to bring out the Statins because it wasn't just his blood pressure rising! Doc Power the forensic psychiatrist had helped put him away and was now a bit of an advisory to Finch. I really took to Doc straightaway a rather damaged bloke himself that kept blanking out because of issues he needed to deal with in his life. When Leech gets his parole, the smelly stuff hits the fan. Leech is on a mission to deal with his past before tracking down his future. Yep in his mind everything is going to come up rosy. This is an outstanding start to a series. The characters are fascinating from all sides of the law which keeps the story at an hi-octane level through out. One thing was for sure Leech was straight in there working to his plan from day one. But that meant that there simply wasn't a book mark place at any point as each chapter brought something gob smacking to the story, whether in present day or from the past. Doc was conducting his own investigating and tracking down as much of the past as he was the present, both which would come spectacularly together. An absolute cracking read I am biting at the bit wanting to get into the second book of this series. Superb!
I persevered to the end with this but it was a hell of a slog !! It seemed like it's taken me forever.....I found it quite needlessly excessive with the violence. This author has a nasty imagination for sure. However, there are also so many punctuation errors it wore me down. So, altogether, it really wasn't a very pleasurable reading experience, I have to say. He misses heaps of hyphens out and he's not great with apostrophes, either....soul destroying, lawyer client privilege, exhaust filled, etc....annoyingly, he does know the difference with the apostrophes as well because, near the end, he refers to relative's, misusing the apostrophe, yet gets it correct as relatives' on the very next page !! Highly irritating. A few places a comma could've been utilised as well. This is all basic punctuation that should be spotted if I can ! This sentence means nothing, either...."He screeched as the broken glass embedded there lacerated both hands".... Picnicked isn't pick-nicked as was written here and he wrote gentleman's and not gentlemen's. If you're a dog lover as I am you want to give this a wide berth as well as there's some properly upsetting nastiness involving one in this.....not nice at all. I'd forgotten DI Carver was a part of the series as we never encountered him till we were 47% into the book !! I wasn't very impressed that Judy didn't always bother to tell a full story, either.....she didn't come across well to me at all. There was even a mistake in the author's acknowledgements at the end !! All in all, I won't stick with this series. It's really not for me.
I received a copy of "Remorseless" from Veracious Readers in exchange for an honest review and it was a fantastic read.
"Remorseless" is one of those books that keeps you awake well into the night reading. I was most definitely surprised by this book as it was very different as to what I was expecting. It was fast-paced, riveting, dark and very thrilling. It is not a book for those who are faint of heart as it is very detailed and quite gruesome in the details of the murders.
The book focuses on Peter Leech, a convict convicted of murdering his parents, his brother Shaun Leech, phychologist Doctor Colin Powers, Investigating Officer Jack Carver, and Parole Officer Judy Finch. Peter is granted parole even though Doc Powers advises against it and when he is set free on parole all hell breaks loose as he leaves a trail of dead bodies and a frightened city behind him. The book does not shy away from the evil that is Peter Leech.
"Remorseless" definitely kept me intrigued until the very last page and caused me to feel a wide array of emotions throughout the entire book as anything was possible. If you enjoy books about murder, crimes, and secrets, "Remorseless" is definitely the book for you.
The Author Will Patching was born and raised in England and he loves gritty crime stories that mix murder mystery and physchological suspense. He certainly achieved this with "Remorseless".
I really enjoyed this book! I am a fan of British culture and novels so I was super excited to give this a read. That being said if you are from the U.S. then you may be confused with some of the dialogue if your not that familiar with British slang and some words have a different British spelling. However if you can get past that you won’t be disappointed with this murder thriller packed full of action and plot twists that you won’t see coming and aren’t predictable like in other novels I have read. I really enjoyed how the book kept switching point of views and was really fascinated by being able to read from the point of view of a cold blooded psychopath and see how their mindset and thinking process worked. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in murder mystery type stories or psychological thrillers that are super realistic, descriptive graphic content. I am thankful I was able to get this great read from voracious readers only !
**Received free copy from Voracious readers in exchange of a honest review**
TRIGGER WARNING:: IF YOU ARE AFFECTED BY THE FOLLOWING MATTERS: RAPE/SEXUAL ASSAULT, ANIMAL CRUELTY, SUICIDE AND DETAILED VIOLENCE/MURDER THEN THIS IS NOT THE BOOK FOR YOU.
That being said the author, Will Patching, certainly knows how to weave an intricated, dark plot with many unexpected twists and horrors hidden in the pages. The mind of a psychopath is also represented incredibly well throughout the book, demonstrating a sense of excellent research. Each character introduced has their own backstory and issues, making a reader be able to identify with a character, even if just slightly. Intense from start to finish and no guarantee of a happy ending, made me unable to put it down and would highly recommend to anyone who loves the crime thriller genre and is not squeamish. Thoroughly look forward to reading more of his work.
I loved this book, it hit the ground running and just didn't ease off the pace. Peter Leech is up for parole and Judy Finch is the woman sent to interview him so she can give an neutral opinion at his parole board, little does she realise that the visit will open such a devastating can of worms. Doc Powers is also on the parole board and he was also one of the people that imprisoned him for the murder of his parents which he always said he was innocent. This is a hard hitting and quite dark but if you are like me and enjoy that sort of book then this is one for you! With the story itself and several well defined characters I couldn't put it down and when I had to I couldn't wait to pick it up again, definitely a book not for the feint hearted. A definite 5* for me.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review.
A terrifying, compelling story. To step inside the mind of a criminal the way this story does can really mess with your head, but it makes such a good book. The twist was impressive as well, didn't see it coming until just before it happened. Absolutely marvelous. Some parts do get a little graphic, and there is a recurring undertone of sexual fixation, so it's certainly not a book for the faint of heart. Still, definitely a book I'd recommend - I put off going to bed in favor of reading the whole thing.
What a totally awesome story! This book runs on high octane from the beginning to the end. Every time you'll believe this plot line to be accurate this novel will suddenly change and you'll follow a new subject or review. This work of fiction has got to be the best book of this year. Will Patching, once again you done us proud'
I loved this book. I was hooked from start to finish. The characters are complex and interesting and there are plenty of twists. No holds barred language but that adds to the authenticity of the book. Thoroughly recommend and looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Grim and gritty, just like I like em! Characters are all well developed and interesting, looking forward to reading more about them. If you don’t like a lot of violence in your crimes novels then this isn’t the book for you but it’s exactly my cup of tea!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my review.
This book packs a punch throughout! Several times I gasped out loud. The characters are very well written and deeply developed; easy to form a bond with them. Even Peter!! At times, you can’t help to feel sorry for him. Loved the storyline. This is the first book of the trilogy. I’m looking forward to the other two.
