La posta in gioco

Postal inspector David Madden, whose hobby is collecting stamps, gets involved with the police in a case of blackmail. The setting and characters are genteel, and the postal props of letters and stamps are used effectively. - The Mystery Lover's Companion, Art Bourgeau

3.75*. This was a very quick-paced murder mystery taking place (and written in) the mid-1950s. A US Postal Service inspector (and stamp collector)is drawn into a combination blackmail/murder case. The angle of an investigation through the POV of a postal inspector was different and interesting. Succinct and no-nonsense writing style kept the story moving right along as well as giving us a little insight into the characters and their back-stories. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and finished it in record time.

I had never read a book by Doris Miles Disney before although I can remember seeing her name on the spines of books my mother had read. I really enjoyed it and intend to seek out other titles by her. This book was included in a three-book Detective Book Club edition that also included The Case of the Lucky Loser by Erle Stanley Gardner and Kill Once, Kill Twice by Kyle Hunt.

A simple case of black-mail becomes a complex and brutal murder.Date of Review. Was a fast moving, well-written excellent detective story! Her books are hard to find but well worth the search!
