After accidentally killing everyone in her class, Alice Wonder becomes a patient in the Radcliffe Lunatic Asylum. No one doubts her insanity. All but a hookah-smoking professor named Carter Pillar who believes he can prove her sanity by decoding Lewis Carroll's paintings, photographs, and finding Wonderland's real whereabouts.

Professor Caterpillar persuades the asylum that Alice can save lives and catch the Wonderland Monsters now reincarnated in modern day criminals. In order to do so, Alice leads a double life: an Oxford university student by day, a mad girl in an asylum by night. The line between sanity and insanity thins when she meets Jack Diamond, an arrogant college student who believes that nonsense is an actual science.

Who can not love a retold Alice in Wonderland fairy tale?! I purchased the books via Kindle - the price was cheap I figured even if I didn't enjoy it, that I wasn't out that much.

Book 1 was AWESOME. The characters were easy to get into as was the story line and Pilla the Killa was just a hoot all the way through. A hookah smoking caterpillar who is also a detective and a serial killer -- and like Indiana Jones, he can strangle people with his hookah hoses.

I laughed through about half of the book and really enjoyed it.

Book 2 was good. Still a good storyline, with more characters brought in and a bit more of the overall storyline brought in...less of the caterpillar and a bit grittier to read but still - retold fairy tale stuff and had me wondering who was who and what was what.

Book 3. - My least favorite of the trilogy. Pilla was mostly on the sidelines or not in the story at all. New serial killers to catch and even in book 3, Alice not sure she is Alice so she had issues she should have worked out by now...I would think.

Not a lot of laughing in Book 3 but a lot of looking to see how much I had left to read and hoping the ending was going to make a big shabang to make it worth reading all 3 together,

The storyline began jumping around as the time frame in the storyline began jumping around ...and again, my least favorite of the book.

Then I saw that there are additional books to this series - which I will not buy.

Great beginning, mediocre middle and less than stellar ending.

Book 3 needs more work to bring it up to speed with the other 2.

Unfortunately finishing this box set became a chore. This is just three of the 11 books in the series. While I enjoyed Alice in Wonderland I am not a “super fan” of the book. I am skeptical of retellings but this intrigued me because it starts with Alice in a present day England as a patient at a mental facility and she is allowed day passes to work with Mr. Pillar on solving a crime involving missing girls. The suspect…. Wait for it…. The Cheshire. That’s just the beginning it twists and turns from there like Nancy Drew trying to solve crime while come to grips that she herself might be this Alice from the Underground (changed to Wonderland when Carroll originally published) and so many other strange “persons” are also “topside”.
If your a big fan of the original this might be for you, but I am stopping at book 3.

{My thoughts} – {date entire series completed} – {12.13.2018}

I’m not sure if I have ever listed all the reasons that I enjoy {fairytale} like books. I am one mega fan of them. I love each and every retelling I have read at this point. {Cameron Jace} has become one of my favorite authors over the years because of his {unique} ability to spin {classic} tales into something {new} and {incredible}. I have read these particular books in the past and enjoyed them. However, I had not been able to complete the series. I am going to {attempt} to play {catch up} on this series. I have {decided} that since I am going to {read} them again that I am going to re-write my past {reviews}.

– {Book 1: Insanity} – {11.14.2018} – Alice in Wonderland has been a beloved classic by many over the years. Cameron Jace has taken this classic and turned it into something new and something fresh that readers young and old will surely be able to fall in love with over and over again. This book is chalk full of information about Lewis Carroll. It also contains in a round about way characters, descriptions and more from the Alice and Wonderland book series. I was rather excited to see that I am able to access this series through Kindle Unlimited seeing as I had lost my original copies of these books when I had a hard drive crash.

Alice Wonder is introduced as a modern day lunatic that is a current underground resident at the Radcliffe Lunatic Asylum. She has been a resident since she was seventeen years old and had killed all of her classmates and her boyfriend in a bus accident. Once she had been tried for that crimes she was sentenced to the Radcliffe Lunatic Asylum until at which point she could be deemed sane again.

When Alice was a child she’d slipped away from her older sister and some how had become lost. When she had found her way back she was telling a tale about a place called Wonderland. She attempted to hold true to her story that Wonderland was real throughout the beginning of her stay at the Radcliffe Lunatic Asylum. After a while and many shock therapy sessions she began to think that she was indeed insane and that Wonderland was a hallucination and was never a real place.

It wasn’t until she met Pillar that things had started to change for her and her personality. He finds a way to smuggle her in and out of Radcliffe Lunatic Asylum so that she can help him solve crimes that are happening because of a War with Wonderland monsters. In this particular book it is up to Alice to save a young girl from the Cheshire Cat. The Cheshire Cat has been on a recent killing spree and it is up to Alice to help the Pillar figure out why it is happening and how to stop it from continuing.

If you want to know what happens to Alice, what her mad adventures are and what kind of person she has become, it’s a good idea to read this book. I promise you won’t be disappointed if you enjoy classic fairytales being retold in a different style. I have not personally read the original Alice in Wonderland story – I think I just may need to after reading this insane adventure that Cameron Jace has written.

– {Book 2: Figment} – {11.28.2018} – There is a lot going on in this book, however, not a lot of it is quotes you want to remember kind of material. Alice seems to go for awhile without hearing from the Pillar and it makes her think that she hallucinated every encounter she’d had with him. She then starts to question her own sanity again. Honestly in her situation, I think I’d be questioning my own sanity on a regular basis.

Eventually, Pillar summons for her and they go on another adventure together. This time, it’s to try and stop the Cheshire Cat and his newly acquired accomplish in murderous rampages The Muffin Man. It’s an interesting story to read about The Muffin Man and his family within the pages of this book. It is also rather interesting to read about Pillar and how he and Alice piece together little clues here and there in an attempt to try and bring The Cheshire Cat and The Muffin Man to justice. It would appear that the two of them working side by side have some type of unofficial detective gig going on when it comes to finding out what the Cheshire Cat is up to and why he continues to murder.

I learned a lot about Alice and her boyfriend Adam in this book, that I didn’t otherwise know. I think that that information is going to help set the stage for how I will be able to imagine the story in my mind, from this point forward. The thing I love most about books is that they allow you to decide how you want to see the story unfold within your imagination. This book series definitely allows for one to use their imagination in order to envision what is assumed to be the authors masterpiece written within the pages of this book.

I look forward to reading on to the third book in the series. I honestly don’t remember what had happened in these first three since I read them so long ago. I am thoroughly enjoying reading them again. In all honestly it feels like it’s the first time I have ever read them and to me that helps to keep the magic of the story alive!

– {Book 3: Circus} – {12.13.2018} – There is so much to be learned about Miss Alice Wonder in this book. The title of the book has true meaning to the plot of this book. It also helps us to better understand Alice and her back history. I know I’d read these three books before but I honestly couldn’t remember anything about them other then they were a retelling of the Classic Alice and Wonderland story. When I’d started reading this book I was thinking that it had to do with an actual type circus kind of plot. Once I’d gotten further into the book I remembered how wrong I’d been to be thinking that in the first place.

Alice really questions her sanity in this book. I know that is to be expected given the situation. However, some of the things she is forced to endure throughout the book would make even a sane person wonder if they were or were not insane. It’s kind of crazy to think about, but the adventure she goes on with The Pillar in this book is for fetched and kind of on the insane side as the book originally entails. As far as I can tell this series is set to make Alice choose whether she’s a good character or a bad one. She is faced with some impossible type situations and those situations even though morally she seemed to be making the right choices, I’m not sure those are the choices I’d have made if I were in her shoes. I’m not saying this in regards to every instance, only some of them.

I also think that for a rather insane girl she shows a crap ton of courage. I don’t think I’d be able to display even an ounce of the courage that she is able to show in these first couple of books. Even though the world seems to be completely and utterly against her, it appears she still has courage to try and stand up for herself, but most of all to stand up for other people. I’m really enjoying getting to know Alice and I am looking forward to seeing where she is going to be going with her story in future books. I am also very much interested in learning more about all the other Wonderlanders that have been introduced so far and hope to be introduced to many more.

This is definitely a series that I am looking forward to trying to read through to the end! It is brilliantly written, it is captivating and it really leaves the reader wanting more at the end of each book! I’d definitely a must read series for any individual that enjoys retelling of Alice and Wonderland.

Insanity: This is the first book in this series and bind up and it introduces the reader to Alice Wonder who wakes up in an asylum, in modern day America, with no memory as to why she's there to be told that she killed all her class mates including her boyfriend in a bus accident. She meets another inmate Carter Pillar who's a serial killer who is trying to convince her that she is indeed the Alice from Wonderland and she needs to help to catch all the Monsters from Wonderland including the Cheshire Cat & The Duchess.
I loved the dual perspective of the story (Alice and Carter Pillar) because it was interesting to see how they saw the events as well as what they thought of each other. It also made it that much easier to connect with them. They were both well developed and multi faceted characters who were likeable and believable as were their relationships with the other characters. Although they and all the other characters were well developed because they were so multi-faceted it left room for them to be developed further in future books.
The plot was so well developed and intricate that it kept you intrigued from beginning to end. It was written in a way that at times it made me feel like I was actually part of the story due the descriptions that were given. I loved the sensitive and thoughtful way that the author wrote about the subject of mental illness eg. By saying that the people outside the asylum are actually the ones that are mad not the ones in the asylum, but also because differentiation's were made between the levels of madness within the asylum.
I would give this part of the bindup a four star rating because although it was a great introduction to the series and made me want to start reading the next Book in the series immediately.

Figment (Insanity 2/6) is the second book in the 6 book series and a great continuation on a really cleaver reimagining of Alice in Wonderland. I still loved Alice and the Pillar and it was interesting meeting the new characters as well as getting to know the supporting characters from the first book better. I found the exploration of what a figment of a persons imagination is and how to differentiate between a figment of ones imagination and reality.
This book is aimed at young adults which is totally the right market although I would say that it's a book that will appeal to anyone who enjoys YA fiction as well as anyone who loves reimagining's of well known and loved stories/fairytales.
The plot of this book was as fast paced as the first one although some of the the chapters were quite long which is why it took me a while to read the book, because the periods where I was reading the really long chapters I got to the stage where I was wading through quick sand so I had to step away from it.
Now I have read and thoroughly enjoyed this book (part of the bind up) on the whole as soon as I finished reading it I immediately started reading the third book (part in the bind-up) in the series and am glad I did.
It is for the reasons I have mentioned above that I have given the book a four star rating.

Circus (Insanity 3/7(Insanity: The Complete Books 1-3 #3)) this is the third book in the 7 book series as well as the third book in the bind up and a great continuation to a series that I am going to thoroughly enjoy. I flew through this book because the chapters were an average length unlike the first two books as well as the fact that it was fast paced which kept me interested through out.
This book focuses on Alice solving the mystery of her life through the mysterious "circus" with the help of Carter Pillar. It was great learning more about Alice and the Pillar as well as the other supporting characters from the first two books and learning about new characters. I can't wait to see where the story goes in the future books in this series.

I am really glad that I purchased the bind up of the first three books in the series because it meant that each time I finished a book I could just go straight on to the next one. The books in this bind up are aimed at young adults although with the subject matter of the stories adults can also enjoy them as well.

A modern, darker version of the Alice tale. Alice Wonder lives in an asylum after killing classmates on a school bus. She helps a serial killer named Carter Pillar find another killer who goes by the name The Cheshire Cat, who is killing young girls. She solves riddles, mostly about Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland, and uses references from the original version of the book itself, to find the next girl. As she gets deeper into the madness she wonders if Wonderland is real or if she's truly gone mad. By the end it mad me curious and I was thankful I got the 3 books together.
In the second one, Alice and Pillar go after a killer who only called himself a Wonderland Monster. This time the crimes are kid's heads being chopped off and stuffed in watermelons. The end left me cheering and in awe.
In the third book Alice and Pillar must find a bomb that is inside a white rabbit. The Wonderland Monster in this one calls himself the Mad Hatter. This one is also personal for Alice, as pieces of her past start to surface. By the end my eyes were wide and I was ready for more. Though watching so many crime shows and movies the ending was surprising and not surprising, but I still wanted more.
I won't reveal any more than that, so those of you who have not read it find this review helpful and encourage you to read these books yourself. The author does a wonderful job with putting a modern twist on a very well known children's story. I was fascinated and wowed that ALL the places and facts about the original books, Lewis Carroll, and places were real. I ended up doing brief research of places of my own.
As a lover of Alice in Wonderland, this was a fantastic read! I finished it in about 2 weeks. It was educational as well as interesting and maddening. By the end of the first book it left me wondering, is it be real, or has she truly gone mad? It sucked me in after the first chapter. It looks like a lot of research and love went into these books, and I encourage you to read the series.

*~Insanity Book 1~*

What a wonderfully Frabjous book. I think I got that right? Lol. A delightfully mad look into a famous book! Well, that rhymed! Anyways, I felt like I was trying to keep up with my sanity '. I mean that in a great way! Following Alice and the Pillar on their crazy train adventures was the best imagination hijack I've had in awhile!

I love that Alice is delightfully mad, yet the most sane of the characters! Or is she sane? Insane? Mad? We shall see!

The pillar is insane in the membrane and has flown the coocoos nest long ago! I absolutely loved his character, very much the riddler. I'm just not sure about his end game?

I'm serious, I loved this book so Much, it makes want to watch every Alice in wonderland book and movie. I want to learn about the wonderland creator.

If your looking for a bus ride to the inside of MadTown, I recommend this book.

This takes u on a Wonderland rollercoaster!!!

Is Wonderland based on fact or fiction? Was it a real place or a figment of imagination? What if Wonderland is real? And all the characters real people? Are they sane or insane or a little bit of both? Where would they be? Locked up or out on the world? Could one of them be sitting next to you now? And what about Alice? Was she insane, a victim, or a hero? These are all relevent questions that have been asked but never answered. Was Lewis insane or genius or both? What would happen if everything was real and it was going on now? How would we look at Alice? Where would she be? Could she really save the world? Or is she just an insane girl? Do we want her help? Or do we lock her up?
And what does Alice herself think? After everything that happens in Wonderland, is she still the same or has what she seen changed her? What if she tells. Do we believe her or is it a child's imagination running wild? What if she never stops believing? Enter Alice Wonder.....patient in insane asylum who remembers nothing after a week due to shock therapy treatment. She is comfortable knowing she is mad. Or is she? Why can't she look in a mirror? Why is she here, what did she do? No one will tell her. And then her world is turned upside down! And she has to help save a girl, and all of London and then London again. Her guide they call The Pillar. What are his true motive? Why does everyone warn her not to trust him? And does she trust him? Start the adventure! Turn the page you won't be able to put it down!

Insanity, is a mad book about a mad world. Did I like it? I did not. Why did I give it four stars? Because I couldn't stop reading it once I started. I really don't understand the obsession with Lewis Carroll and Alice in Wonderland. I think people give it way too much credit, in the sense that they try to make sense of something that has none. It's a typical case of: 'what the author really wanted to say was...' when the author only wanted to write crazy things without meaning. True, his books have a lot of political satire and you can read a lot between lines, but it was never supposed to be such a cult thing.

Insanity is based on that crazy word, it even has Lewis Carroll as a character. From the beginning there are a lot of questions that we want answers to, and I kept reading, and reading, thinking that once I finished the three books I would learn the answers, but I only got more questions. Then I found out that is not three books, but six, that I had to read to get all the answers, then I realized that there's another book that is not published yet, and I realized that it was never going to end! I can't take that much. So I will try to get some spoilers and see if I can find a few answers, but I won't keep reading the series.

These are good books, and some people will really appreciate them, but I don't. I give the author credit, the writing is good, the story is captivating, it has facts, taken from the wonderland crazy culture, and if I had the patience for games and madness, I would be a big fan of the series, but I'm not, and I'm sorry.

I was beguiled by the premise, but standoffish due to some ratings. I finally bought this set, happy to have found them on my suggestion list. At the time of purchase, I believed it was only a trilogy. I finally had time to read them, starting this weekend. I absolutely enjoyed the first book. I believe Jace has a talent with story weaving and a lot of attention to detail, including tying in facts with his story. The layers of crazy is confusing, as one would expect a story about insane characters to be. I love Jack! Just because. There were portions of books 2 and 3 wherein Jace makes statements that contradict himself. (Alice claims to have been somewhere she could not have been, because he said so in an earlier segment of the story, for example.) I chose to just call it an oops and keep reading. There is mild language. Some words are only hinted at, with $@!8# type text, while others are written. I will continue to read this series and see where Jace takes us.

OUTSTANDING Rebirth of Alice...

This series is an outstanding rebirth of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland...with a dark, CRAZY twist! The writing is outstanding, editing professional as they come and the research, Holy Cow! The research done on this book is awe-inspiring! I love the art cover on each book, beautifully done, and its what first caught my attention. The story kept it. I highly recommend this series to both young and mature adults due to the discriminate use of serial killings and lack of modern verbal profanity. Besides, this story rocks and keeps you hook-ahed from page one. My 15 y/o daughter LOVED this series so much she actually paid for Book 5 with her own money! (She reads faster than me!) And kudos to Cameron Jace for answering fan mail from said 15 y/o Fans promptly. You are definitely "LIKE"d.

After reading books one and two I sadly could not continue. The author has a lack of understanding of English culture and sadly gets too many references wrong in relation to both language and behaviour of the British population (with particular annoyance being found in the prologue of book two during the football game). In addition to this, I felt the book out-paced itself, moving way too quickly to gain any insight into the characters or plot thus, leaving me feeling rather despondent towards this saga. For a book with such high potential I was nothing if not hugely disappointed. Although Cameron Jace clearly has an amazing imagination sadly it has not been translated into these stories.

If you want grim chaos, this is the world for you.

And when I say chaos...I do not exaggerate. Wonderland chaos - bloody, violent Wonderland chaos.
Well researched and reasonably written - I think horror fans will enjoy will enjoy this book more than fantasy fans.
My main frustration was the speed at which the story advances; more accurately DOESN'T advance. Three books in and Mr. Jace has barely touched the surface of his world, and the background of his heroine.
Nevertheless I think these books are worth following. I put it third priority in the "purchasing book budget." Just treat it like a soap opera. Very little story advance per episode.

I really enjoy these books. If you are a fan at all of "Alice in Wonderland" you will like this modern extension of Alice's adventures. The story is a really fun twist on the Alice story line, with a little social commentary thrown in, and the writing is very easy to fall into. My only issue - which keeps me from giving it 5 stars, is the numerous typos and dropped or incorrect words. Perhaps it did not translate properly from paperback to the kindle edition, but regardless, it is an unwelcome hiccup in an otherwise completely engrossing series.

This book was ridiculous! It was hard to follow but once you really get into it it is amazing. It's a retelling of Alice in Wonderland mixed with Girl, Interrupted. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good psychological mystery.
In a classroom setting it would be a good way to display the reality of mental illness and the fleeting nature of what reality really is. It also could be used to teach critical thinking and deductive reasoning.
Warnings:
Language - none
Violence - gun use, killings
drugs - possible hinted at
Sex - none
Rock and Roll - mental illness, serial killer

Madness is as madness does

I cannot remember where I heard about this beautiful, mad, and wonderful series but that doesn't matter; what does is finding it. I always liked Alice in wonderland but feel in love with a game based on the darker side of the story. This series reminds of that as well as reminding me that nothing is as it seems and life is more beautiful and entertaining when you mix in a little madness.

Frabjuous!

First of all, the word nonsensical is now my new favorite word with Frabjous in close second!

Second, this book is just awesome! I loved the twists and turns. This series has made me enjoy Alice in Wonderland more than I thought I could. It has made me want to read the original. I'll be in to that next year!

This book has also taught me to NOT SKIP THE EPILOGUE !! you will seriously miss out if you do!

AGAIN - READ THE FREAKING EPILOGUE !!!

Very good. Enjoyed start to finish. It took me awhile to finish it as it was an omnibus of 3 books and so I read it as 3 separate books meaning I read other kindle books to give me the time to understand and digest what had happened as it wouldn't have flowed ( in my opinion) if I had read it all at once so its not a relection on the story just my choice of how I read it. Highly recommend especially to Alice in Wonderland fans.

Wonderfully mad

As I've always been obsessed with wonderland, this series is frabjously mad. A wonderful addition to the lore that begun oh so many years ago by the wonderfully delerious, Charles Dodgson, more commonly known as lewis Carroll. I would fully recommend this to anyone who has ever dared to venture down the rabbit hole and it amazes me that I wasn't the only one who ever saw the dark side of Wonderland. 10\10 keeps me guessing.

Insanely addictive and amazing! I love the way it draws you into history with real facts about Lewis Carroll, the seamless integration of Wonderlandian psychosis’s and the ‘saner real world’ madness, and I am STILL quoting Professor Pillar! It is immersive reading at the less and more interesting than not, you start to feel that your own little quirks that are not so sane, seem perfectly acceptable.

I bought this because it was being sold a something the late, dear Terry Pratchett would have written. Couldn't have been further from the truth and I was very disappointed. The storylines are simple but rambling. The overall premise has potential but the execution leaves something to be desired. And then very sad to find that the story doesn't wrap up at the end of the third book. this is really stretching it too far.

Wonderland insanity in the real world.

I got the first book for free, it hooked me, and I had to get the set. Each book kept me on the edge of my seat, I could not put it down because I had to know what happened. Get sucked into the Insanity with a real world take on Wonderland characters.

Wild, witty, and impossible to ignore—a heroine locked in an asylum, fighting supernatural monsters, and somehow making it all feel sexy as hell. Between dark secrets, dangerous creatures, and unexpected romance, this book is a chaotic thrill ride with heat in all the right places. If you like your fantasy hot and your heroines unhinged (in the best way), this one’s for you.
