It has been a year since the First and Third Greaneth of Velesi arrived in Pathen. In that time, Alorn and Mellis have hunted and sent back some of the UnderRealm’s deadliest of denizens that escaped during the Closing. But a new threat has been awakened by the expected arrival of new blood which will open the gateway for an ancient evil to return to Velesi. She is called The Talion Witch, and she will stop at nothing to take vengeance against those who exiled her to the realm of Pathen. Unfortunately for our heroes, one of their own possesses the new blood and the Talion Witch is killing all who stand in her way to get it. However, before they can get to the Witch, they must first face the deadly, but beautiful, Sister Assassins and a horde of shimodos—demon dogs. Welcome to Pathen.
L. Filloon was born in Leone, American Samoa. At a young age her family relocated to Hawaii and settled on Oahu. In 1977, her father once again relocated the family, this time to San Diego, eventually making National City, California their home. Although she started writing during her junior high school years, it wasn't until late 2011 that she self-published her first book, The Binding; the first in The Velesi Trilogy. Book 2, The Drifting, will be available on Amazon.com for Kindle on November 9, 2012. The final installment to be released in 2013.
Filloon has a unique way of writing that makes you feel like you've stepped into a world of 'olden' that manages to keep its sexy streak and modern slang, making for a very interesting read. And who doesn't love sexy- albeit somewhat jaded -elves? If you've read from this author, you know how good she is at sucking you in. You also know how fast it is to fall in and out of love with these characters, and if reading has taught me anything, it's how to keep a good book close to you once you've found it.
This is a must read for those who love fantasy with sass and witty dialogue. It keeps you on your toes with the action and mystery, and gives you multiple ways to experience the wonderful world Filloon set up one year after the Velesi Trilogy. It's funny but serious, fresh but familiar, and 100% beautiful with its language, people and (slow- looking at you, jerk) character development towards a better and more exciting morning.
It was just amazing with the plot and its tendency to have an inception of plot twists (my god) but it kept me guessing for forever and a day. Alorn and Mellis balance the story with their difference in attitude and openness, one being cynical and the other acting like a fluff of flirts and giggles. *sighs* I love you. So much. The new characters added to their life after a year since the last trilogy were just as fun and endearing, and I especially loved how they all had back stories or some level of humanity to touch my heart, despite only appearing for a few pages at a time. It really emphasized on how much the elven's sense of morale propriety stuck despite all the things that went on, which further fed them brownie points with how real their culture felt to me. Then again I've already been with them for three books soooo- lol. And the return of old characters! Och, heart sung with joy when they showed up despite it only having been just these two in the beginning.
Just like the author's writing, this world itself is unique, with the guys' sense of self and culture brought into the world of Pathen (our world). I especially loved that it was partially set in Vegas, mostly because I frequent a lot of the places they did. It amazed me and made me the happiest girl in the world to know that Mellis and I have the same favorite hat shop.
This a fantasy fic but there's action, suspense, a dire mystery with lives at stake, romance and humor that can only go so far before it has you laughing out loud. You'll be missing out if you don't read this.
I am always looking for a story/stories to sink my teeth (and mind) into. The Velesi Trilogy became a favorite of mine. This book is set in the same world within the same royal family, centered around the Greaneths, elite royal warriors sent to the human world to track down and dispatch escaped demons/monsters. I love it as Alorn and Mellis now have a part of the Velesi books dedicated to these strong alpha Greaneth warriors.
I'm never disappointed in a L. Filloon book, and this one is no exception. I love Alorn and Mellis so much. Where they are, danger and action are sure to follow. I'm so ready for the next book!! I'm always up for Velesi and it's crew of elves!
I loved the characters from the Velesi trilogy! I'm glad to read more about what happened to Alorn and Mellis in Pathen. I look forward to reading how things turn out for Alorn. Mellis is my favorite!
