Superpower adventure-thriller-fantasy novel for readers aged 11-12+
When a mysterious man in a black suit appears in Aiden Chase’s house to tell Aiden he has special powers, thousands of possibilities beyond school life are suddenly opened up. Fifteen-year-old Aiden has to decide whether to become part of Lucerin’s dark and secretive world, or to try out using his powers as he sees fit.

Dan Corns trained as a journalist and now enjoys his work as an English and Media Studies teacher. He is married with two sons, who help try to keep order between a dog and two cats in their house.
The ideas for Lucerin originated in philosophical considerations about the power of dreams. However, these thoughts turned into something concrete when Dan became a teacher and felt frustrated with the books he had to teach his inspired initially by the idea of lucid dreams, Dan’s world of Lucerin sprang into life, becoming the setting for an action novel that grips and engages real students of the age group he teaches.

Fifteen-year-old Aiden has to decide whether to become part of Lucerin’s dark and secretive world, or to try out using his powers however he wants. Not sure who he can turn to, and with no idea who he can trust, Aiden has a simple warning reverberating around in his “If you use your powers without permission, Lucerin will make sure you never wake up again.”

I was asked to review this book by the publishers and I am happy to say this book was the favourite of the year. I loved it and recommend it to anyone who love fantasy and thriller books. It is fast paced and has a cliff hanger that took me ages to get over. Happy to see my comment right on the front. :)

I was asked to write an essay at uni about a book that inspired me to start my writing career, and chose this one! Written by my high-school English teacher, this book is a fabulous YA fantasy that made me see that the title of author was one I could achieve one day myself, as well as a book that has inspired many a campaign in my career as a professional D&D Game Master!
Sentimentalities aside, the pacing, style and characterisation of this spunky youngster navigating a life with newfound power in this novel were fabulous, and I’d highly recommend giving this one a pick up and a read! I hope to see a sequel on shelves at some time or another!
