When the Gods call, mortals answer.

Reaching Solava Proper seemed like the end of their journey, but fate and the Gods have other plans for Gilliam and his friends.

Old friendships are rekindled and strained as the friends are forced to find a way to prevent an upcoming war and protect an innocent princess tied to the heart of it all.

Through their adventures, the Phoenix watches as he prepares for a possible conflict between the Gods. When a single move could mean failure, will his efforts succeed or be for naught?

I am finding it hard to write this review. I was under the impression that The Dragonmaster could be read as a standalone but unfortunately I was wrong. My own fault for not looking deeper.

A princess has been abducted by the Goblins and she is being terribly mistreated. She wishes to go home, where she belongs. She somehow ends up in another Kingdom. Her sudden "arrival" comes as a surprise. Despite some of the apprehensions, she is given shelter and is allowed to choose a guardian. She finds herself on the run again with some help but at the end, it transpires that this too has been a ruse.

There are different scenarios in different locations and various interesting characters throughout. I found myself at a bit of a loss, not knowing what had happened previously. Merek is a good example, he is one of the key characters and I would have liked to know how and why he became the "Phoenix".

This book is full of various mythical beings and magic. It would have been a very interesting read, had I started from the beginning. There are little clues about previous occurrences but not enough for me to have a full picture of the plots. I like the diverse beings, such as the Nymphs, the Dwarfs, Mawes, the Cyclops and many others.

It's a different and interesting storyline, suitable for all ages, but would advise readers to read the previous ones before moving on to this one. Those who have read the series to date will be in a better position to give a more rounded review, something which I might revisit at a later date. This one also ends on a cliffhanger.
