John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
This was an amazing study to go through and really dig into the Gospel of John. I really appreciated the side commentary next to the scripture. And then great follow up questions at the end of each chunk of scripture.
As an ABF at church, we are reading through this study of the book of John. MacArthur really plows through the book with great insight and interpretation. It has practical and thought-provoking questions to go along with it as well, creating great discussion and a better understanding of the Bible and God's heart.
This journey and overview is excellent to give you the sense of who Jesus Christ is and His nature and works. It encourages one to trust this Lord and God who died for your sins to save you to a living eternal vibrant imaginative creative relationship with the Trinity, life eternal, quality life of the ages to come both now and always and forever by grace.
This book searches in depth the scriptures of the Book of John. The format is easy to read and offers definitions and guides in the sidelines. The sideline areas allow room for notes as well. Well organized and meaningful study guide.
I love this book I learned so much. I like very much the way John Maca Arthur explain the Word. I recommend to everyone that want to get a more detailed understanding of God Word
What a perfect study to finish out on Holy Week. Sometimes the commentary is a bit dry, but overall, the study, the questions are eye opening as it guides you through the book of John.
3.5 study, some side notes and questions i didn’t necessarily agree with; But a sweet study going into Easter. I also loved revisiting Dr. William’s notes from class a couple years ago hahah
I did not think this was a great Bible study aid as MacArthur tackles too much information per chapter in my opinion. It would have been better to have a longer study guide that broke down the Gospel of John chapter by chapter or even section by section given the length and breadth of most of the chapters. This book really only scratches the surface so I would not recommend to someone who is looking at doing an in-depth study. MacArthur's commentary is very good so it is worth reading. He also includes all of the Bible passages from the Gospel of John within the book which is convenient as you do not need to have your Bible with you in order to use the guide.
Enjoyed having a little deeper study of John but does not contain a deep dive of the book (MacArthur has other Commentaries for the 'deep dive'). This commentary contains the actual scripture text where other Commentaries do not so you have to reference the bible as you go along. Can also be used as a devotional or group study guide as the commentary contains questions for self reflection. Enjoyed the time learning with this one.
Nothing compares to the beautiful Gospel of John. John wrote his version of the Gospel “that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” (John 20:30-31). John MacArthur provides a study of John’s Gospel that helps us translate the narrative and he provides important discussion questions that are helpful for group discussion.
